I had some time to stop in this morning (Tuesday). I was pretty impressed at how clean and well organized this store is. The prices are decent. Some things are obviously a bit on the higher end and you can't negotiate prices but most things seemed to be an okay value. The store was also larger than I expected. I have been shopping here for years and years way before it was cool. It also brings so many memories or my mom, grandma and I making thrift dates a whole weekend thing. We loved thrifting together. Some people have stated that it's pricey. I really do not think so m. Also, the funds gathered are for paying the employees and also to run shelters/other programs through the ARC. WORST SERVICE EVER!! I have been making donations to the Arc Foundation for a decade - totally well into the 10s of thousands of dollars worth of donations. Had a pickup scheduled for today - the truck came EARLIER than the pickup time and then bolted and left - no knock on the door or any contact. I called immediately (8:045am) and was told the truck had just left 5 minutes ago. I asked them to come back but was told that he was "no longer in the are"... Stopped by today to look at the books. I ended up not finding anything for myself, but I did find one for my daughter. It was a skinny book that I thought was really cute. I noticed it said 5 children's books for 2.95, so I started looking around to see if I could find any more for her. There was a total of I'd say like 6 children's books, most were small chapter books. My daughter is 9 months, so I decided to only pick up the one book I had found. I was thinking okay, 5 books for $3 so 1 book should be around $0.75. I went to pay and the lady tells me it's 5 books for 2.95. I say yes I know but this is the only one I want. She proceeds to say that then it's still going to be 2.95 even if I only chose one. So I said "you can't just input like $1??" When you buy stuff they input the prices, they never scan anything, so she could've most definitely just input the price. They sell things for 0.99 cents so she was just being difficult for whatever reason. And she's like no I can't all while smirking, like what?? That makes 0 sense, so I said well okay never mind. That was the worst customer experience I've had in a very long time. Which is upsetting because I really like going here for books, but I'm going to probably just go elsewhere. read more

One star I suppose, no other option. This thirft store is very over priced. There's more cameras in this facility than a government center which I'm beginning to realize why the prices on several worn out items are high. You're better off purchasing the item at the store for a $1-$2 more brand new than in this thrift store. the employees were so disrespectful to me. I stayed waiting for help while they walk past by as I hear them say they aren't going to help me. They talked to each other and said they didn't care to help me. one person knew I was waited for help and she left. the four cashiers in the front all are going to be the down fall of the store. What a great store! They have a large selection of clothes (racks and racks of organized shirts, pants, shorts and whatnot all by size) and handbags as well. Everything is reasonably priced (from my purchase of $1.95 to $5.95) and they have plenty of cashiers to ring you up :) I bought 2 going out tops, 1 Lacoste polo shirt, 1 silver I.N.C. top for my roller disco outfit and 1 pair of black H&M shorts (I regret the shorts but at least they were $2.95). My total purchase was ~$23 which is pretty good for all 5 items. They do accept credit cards. The only negative thing is that they close kinda early at 6pm but the Super Thrift next door closes at 7pm if you are still shopping and didn't find what you were looking for :) read more

It's a hit or miss here, I do think they over price known brands. I saw a Patagonia jacket for 199.99 not in the great condition which the same jacket retails new for 189.99, doesn't make sense. I've found some gems for sure - Pyrex, Carnival Glass, vintage Libbey glassware, Vintage Crockpots, etc. On my last trip, I came away with some great finds, including vintage Indiana Glass egg plates, Pyrex and some adorable pink depression glass! read more

This is one of the few local thrift stores with hours on Sunday. They also have additional sales going on Sundays. This is a decent sized store with lots of women's clothes, and decent selection of shoes, home goods, men's clothes, kids stuff and linens. Generally I only come here if I can't find what I want at other stores, as the prices here tend to be a little higher. That said, I've found some really cool stuff here too, like a pageant gown entirely covered in beadwork for like $9. Good selection of women's dresses in sizes Large and up. Dresses and other clothes are sorted by size! How cool is that?! Sure, things won't always be in the right place, but you can find your size and know that most of the stuff in that area will be closer to fitting you than the thrift stores that just mix everything together (which is pretty much every other one of them). Staff here are friendly and polite. Private parking lot that's locked after hours. Good selection of kid's toys - I buy them for my birds. read more

This is my favorite thrift store in west end Ventura county. I come here weekly and left empty handed only once because I didn't have a lot of time to look before they closed! I've been coming here for at least 5 years. Reasonably priced and the weekly sales are an added bonus. I am an expert thrifter & I'm not sure why other reviews are saying this is expensive. I love this thrift store! The staff are always friendly, however, the price tags are always stapled to the clothing and I have tried to tell the staff and manager to have the price tags stapled more carefully. Often times, the staple creates a hole in the garment and then there is no use to wear them. This time, the manager gave us a 40% discount one the item in question. The housewares, brick brack section is always replenished with new things. Take your time to look carefully. Clothes! They have good quality clothes among the every day clothes, so browse carefully. All clothes are organized in sizes, from Extra Small to XXXL. I love it! There are options for everyone! If you have your own shopping cart on wheels, bring it! They have limited carts for shoppers, but they have plenty of plastic hand carry baskets. They have bathrooms, but no dressing rooms, and a few mirrors throughout. I've donated to this place for years because my mentally retarded aunt. ARC has been a big part of her life for over 30 years. Today, I will never go back to that place. I called yesterday because I was told I can drop off the big items because they won't pick up and when I called to confirm today they said I couldn't and I asked why and how does their furniture get there if they can't pick up or take drop offs, and I kept my tone calm and didn't have an attitude, I just wanted to know how I can get my stuff their since I normally do small items. The guy asked me to hold so he can his supervisor to come talk to me. While on hold, I can hear the guy cussing up a storm saying that some b@*! on the phone giving me sh@!#t, im about to go off on that b@! And so much more was said while I was on hold. The supervisor Clint got on the phone and I told him about his employee and that I heard everything he said. He didn't acknowledge any of that and all he said is what exactly do you need? Wow, I was shocked how unprofessional he was and his employee. I will be calling corporate tomorrow and making a formal complaint. ARC has always been a professional environment and obviously things have slipped in hiring employees because those two gave the worst impression of that place to me now. There's decent clothes here sometimes but the store smells like something died, and they're militant about ID's matching cards and the person being with you. I used to shop here for work (I work as a costume assistant) but can't anymore because they won't accept my boss's work card when I'm alone or even when I have her ID. I tried to explain this including giving them my work ID/offering to call and they essentially accused me of stealing the card. This is by far the most ridiculously over priced "thrift" store that I have ever set foot in. I mean come on, almost 20 dollars for an old faded Victoria's Secret sweat shirt?? Just because it has a label saying PINK does not make it worth a bunch of money. I did see a cute little Alice in wonderland cross body canvas bag for 99 cents and was excited to get it for my upcoming Disneyland trip only to flip the tag over and see the other side of the tag with 12.95 marked on it. Overall, this is a very good thrift store. I'd give it a 5, but I'm so tired of the erratic pricing. Tons and tons of excellent deals, but some of the pricing is absolutely absurd. I've seen 80s JC Penney sneakers priced for $25 (I doubt they even retailed that high), beat up boots for $80, etc, etc. Newsflash: you are a thrift store in Oxnard. The items are donated and while I understand that they want to raise money for their cause, it's silly to overcharge so much. The ARC in Ventura has much fairer prices, despite the fact that the neighborhood is a lot less impoverished. Sometimes, the inability and lack of awareness of pricing can be beneficial. I found a Mavi denim jacket for $3 next to a dated Abercrombie jacket which was $15 (Mavi is much more expensive and fashionable than A&F). ARC has errything: Apparel ( mens, women, chilliinnn), books, records, videotapes, shoes, toys, wall hangings, seasonal decorations, small electronics, toys, sporting equipment, housewares and all dat darn tootin bric a brac. The two sections I would recommend checking out are the electronics and the records. While ARC definitely doesn't offer the cheapest electronics, I found that out of all the thrift stores I visit ( so every one in the history of the whole wide world- or Southern California) the vast majority of them worked- which is nothing short of a miracle. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather pay an extra five bucks for an old VCR than save the money and end up buying twelve that break within a week. And the records- treasures still exist! I am almost never dig anymore because I already have 302929555 Musical scores to Fiddler On the Roof but thankfully, this time I did- and this time I lucked out. I managed to dig up tunes from artists like Paul Simon and Fleetwood Mac- and only for a buck! I am not going to promise that you'll luck out like I did, but me thinks ARC is an untapped treasure. The prices here vary greatly. ARC is one those thrift stores which appears to follow some weird wizardy method to price their items. As other Yelpers have mentioned the pricing is hugely erratic and more often than not, nonsensical. For example, while I was browsing through the jackets I found one that only five bucks and one that twenty! I've been on this epic quest for the perfect TV/VCR combo and literally every time I enter a thrift store ( so every other day that ends with a "Y") I b-line straight to the television department and more often than not, this is the perfect testing ground for customer service ( mostly because it takes an ungodly amount of patience to put up with me tinkering with EVERY TV/VCR combo for an extended period of time) -and this place passed the test! The employee I grabbed helped me find the perfect set and he helped me carry it out to my car and with a smile. Thanks ARC! Also, ARC's proceeds does go to support a non-profit (http://www.arcvc.org/) which is geared towards helping people with developmental disabilities, so your purchase is going to support a good cause. I do like the stuff in this store, but the prices are WAAAY TOO overpriced for a thrift store off the Oxnard Blvd; especially for the kids clothes. My toddler is growing out of her clothes too fast so I thought I'd find some nice things here for cheap, WRONG!!! They're charging $5 for USED Carter's clothes that you can get for that price or cheaper when the outlet store is having a sale. Long story short - nice items, too overpriced considering the high rate of turn over and the fact that they're USED! (Also agree with everyone that the price tag stapled to the tag is HIGHLY annoying. You can't see the size or name brand sometimes, and I see they write the size on the tag, but it's chicken scratch writing.) read more

Compared to others in Oxnard, ARC is by far my favorite!! Friends I talk to will tell me their favorite, so then I think I should try others & make my rounds to super thrift, the rescue mission, or the Goodwill and I just don't ever find the same luck & great finds that I find here! and I also like that they have a "color tag of the week" & you get 40% off the price and Sundays it's 60%!! It changes weekly on Mondays & goes in order (pink, blue, tan,etc). how can you beat?! of course every time I go I find things in the "non sale color" tag but oh well. Pros: It's clean, neatly organized, the workers are nice & are always hustling (you'll always see employees hanging things up/organizing), pricing is fair (it seem to look up their stuff by brands and then price), they accept debit/cc cards (must show ID). Cons: parking is terrible especially if you get there mid day on a weekend I wouldn't even bother with the parking lot - just park behind on A street & walk. the aisles are very narrow in some areas-if I have a shopping cart, somebody else with a shopping cart cannot squeeze by. And is someone without a shopping cart is on the larger side they cannot squeeze by (at least in the men's section). Another thing that annoys me is they always seem to put the sensor/price tag right over the label size-guess is the place where it won't leave a hole....but it never fails it's right over the size that I need to see :( read more
