I like smaller airports, which is exactly what Arcata-Eureka Airport is. It's small, no fuss, gets you in and out. What more do you need? We flew into Arcata-Eureka for our northern California weekend, which made the start of our road trip super easy. Arcata-Eureka has only a few airlines that flies in and out of here, including Alaska Airlines from Seattle, which is a win for me. The airport only has one terminal, one baggage claim area and not much else. Once we got into the main area, we immediately found the rental car desk. Easy peasy. I don't know about the amenities and food options as I didn't see much, so plan ahead if you're flying out of here. Don't expect gourmet. However, if you're looking for an airport that's quick and easy to get in and out of, and are traveling around the northern California Coast area, Arcata-Eureka is solid. read more

If you're flying out of Humboldt County, ACV is your go-to--and while it's tiny (blink and you'll miss it), it gets the job done! They've got one little coffee shop to fuel up while you wait, but don't expect much beyond that. United Airlines tends to be pretty disorganized here, and delays seem to be the norm, unfortunately. BUT--I recently discovered Avelo Airlines. Nothing fancy, but they were on time, and they fly to Burbank...which is super convenient! the tickets were super affordable. Win-win! One downside of ACV--there are no luggage carts anywhere. I had a heavy box with me, and there wasn't a single cart on site. Thankfully, a kind TSA officer helped me carry it to my car (shoutout to them!). Parking is $16/day, which is honestly a steal compared to other airports, and I felt safe leaving my car there for 3 days. Overall, it's a quirky little airport, but it's got charm and gets the essentials right. read more

United flight 5506- arrived into Arcata 2 hours late. Ok, we understand things happen. When they FINALLY arrive, they force passengers against their will to stay on this plane for over an hour sitting on the EMPTY tarmac. There are only 2 terminals and one of them was EMPTY and stayed empty for over an hour while we were forced to sit against our will. Their reasoning? The other one was "reserved." They could have de boarded that entire aircraft in less time than they made everyone sit. This was a COMPLETE disaster/nightmare. I mean this could not have been a worse experience if I tried. NEVER will I recommend flying into this airport to anyone. read more

Did you know that ACV is one of the world's foggiest airports? If you are a WW2 history buff, I encourage you to read the wiki entry for how this airport came to exist. Unfortunately, we got a rough education about this fun fact while sitting on the tarmac at the Burbank airport when our flight got cancelled due to foggy conditions at ACV (pilots cannot land safely due to the fog). If your flight is expected to land during daylight, probably a much better chance of making it there. If not, good luck!! Anyways, about the airport itself: it is super small without much amenities. We rented our car from Avis and their desk hours are limited. We tried calling their listed number multiple times to let them know about the flight delay but no one ever picked up...but they do exist! Cell reception was spotty at times but airport wifi was good enough. They have the nice water bottle refill stations on both sides (before and after security). Food-wise: we stopped by North Coast Co-op to get sandwiches prior to getting to the airport since I don't like the chance of possibly going hungry due to flight delays, etc... This part of California is so so beautiful and I can't wait to come back. I don't think I'll fly though...there is too much uncertainty due to fog! read more

This airport is the smallest airport I have ever been in Don't take that as a bad thing, though! The rental car return is located on the right hand side of the building and you'll see the signs for parking, there is only 1 coffee shop and vending machines for snacks. Security is super early to get through because it is a single gate ( note: the coffee shop is outside of the terminal so plan to get there early if you want a drink ). One of the smallest airports I've ever been to! Unfortunately our flight got diverted back to SFO due to an autopilot malfunction. Flying into this airport can be risky. I've been told by someone in Arcata that Pilots will not land if the airport is foggy. We luckily got put into a different plane in SFO and was able to land in Arcata at 1:30am. Had issues getting an Uber at that time so I had to call a cab driver my hotel recommended. read more

Incredible. It's a tiny airport of course. That's fine. However, I arrived ten minutes prior and the plane was already boarded. TSA shutdown the line after only ten minutes of boarding. Make sure you arrive way early, or the plane might leave without you. No one would help me. No one was at the TSA check in. No one was at the United desk. I asked someone to help and they said "we're not with united". I knocked on two doors at the United desk. TSA answered the door. I asked if anyone with United worked at the airport. He said "check with united at the desk" I told him"we're both standing at the desk, I don't see anyone, do you?" I then asked if he could please contact someone with United. He banged on the door never to him and yelled "united!". He then shut the door in my face. In no way was I rude. Yet I was treated like garbage. I called united and they stated the I arrived at 3:45pm. They said I should have been able to board and that the boarding window is 30-45 minutes. I informed her the doors were shut and no employees were available. I found out later that they only allow ten minutes. I looked at the app. The flight arrived 15 minutes early and left. I am not looking forward to any flights to Arcata. read more

Avelo is a new air carrier out of our little airport. We were required to show up 2 hours before our departure. The airport it's self has a small parking lot that was almost full . The short term parking is easy to get in and out of and the drop off zone is well lit at night. All COVID rules are being followed at this airport, that was good to see. Checking into our new airlines was mostly pain free. No real complaints. After our check in we went up stairs and kicked back ,ssssshhhhh not that many people know about up there. You can watch the planes come and go virtually by yourself. Getting thru security was a breeze , it's funny , there was no one in line, super easy , the waiting area has nice bathrooms and snacks with water fountains. This is such a tiny airport with minimal amenities and services offered. Our flight landed here during the day, and the flight all from the plane to the small terminal was long enough to get soaked during the flooding rains of the season. I was then very confused when both the Uber and Lyft apps were stuck over half an hour not finding a driver. There was no visible signage around about the 4 cab companies in town which I later got to find out about. The only positive was The Grind cafe that served delicious food and wine. The rental car place had no cars to rent. On my return trip, I got dropped off at the ACV Airport way in advance around 3:45 PM given the limited transportation in the area. There was not a thing open until 5:30 PM when The Grind finally opened and saved the day. The TSA opened 20 minutes after the stated opening time. ACV is one of those small airports that you can get in and out of quickly if you knew in advance to arrange for a vehicle but at this day and age, one hopes to have a little more amenities, options and transportation guidance from even a regional airport to not get stuck. read more

It is called Arcata-Eureka Airport but it is not located in either of those two cities mentioned :-D instead it is located in McKinleyville,CA! This airport is nice and quaint getaway from the city in a small town full of local and commercial businesses surrounding the town. Inside the two story airport you can find a Hertz and Almo car rental companies available 24/7. Also security is pretty spot on making sure folks don't stop for too long in the pick up/drop off area for too long. But don't forget you get the first 10 minutes free validated parking . Overall the airport has a clean state of the arc feel to it which includes their architecture and large windows. I agree that it can get a bit expensive to fly out from here and with only United Airlines available it can get a bit pricy but it if you want to make sure you catch your flight without having to drive to Crecent City or Oakland then this is the place for you!! read more

The Arcata/Eureka airport is a fairly good airport. However, every single time you have to grab a checked bag from the baggage claim after you get off the plane you are waiting 35-45 minutes each time no matter what. So don't have your family come to the airport when you land, tell them to come an hour later because that's when you'll be out. I really don't understand why it takes so long to get luggage from the tiny plane 100 get away to the luggage belt right next to the plane. While not the biggest airport, it gets the job done. Happy to have this airport nearby to be able to make connections in larger cities. The airport itself is small which has its pros and cons, and there is only one place to buy food and drink which is akin to a coffee stand in a mall. There is Enterprise Car Rental counter in the airport but boarding and deplaning are both done old school on the tarmac. I think my biggest tiff with the airport is that security and such was closed even though I arrived for my flight 90 minutes early. Security opened the lines about 30 minutes before the flight took off. While expedient, it left me wondering what was going on with no one to ask. I'll continue to frequent the airport, it now I know amenities are limited. read more

Simply the best experience in an airport! Everyone is getting on your flight so you don't need to worry. Lines, if any, move quickly. You know there is plenty of chairs and a handy restroom outside and inside the gate area. Arcata Airport offers free half-hour parking and low rates on long term parking. All the employees are friendly and knowledgeable. The best thing about flying out of Arcata is the cheap Avelo tickets to Burbank -- $49 and $69 Alaska Air to San Diego! Easy for an airport. I have traveled through many airports and its not fun sometimes, but this airport makes traveling a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is mellow and not a lot of lines. I love small Airports - due to their intimacy and ease of getting in and out! I recently visited Arcata-Eureka Airport - as I flew in and out from SFO - as part of a week long vacation in Northern California. Upon arrival, we deplaned onto the taxiway and walked into the Terminal - and the only baggage claim carousel is right there - right in front of you as you walk in the door. On the flight out of ACV, I checked in to United to check my bag, hit Ramone's Cafe for iced coffee and bottled water, and then went upstairs to the Observation Lounge to chill and waste time on my notebook computer - until it was time to board. The Gate area (post TSA security checkpoint) has restrooms and vending machines, and plenty of seating - but nothing else - no cafes, restaurants, etc. It's to small to support such an set up. #ArcataEurekaAirport #ACV read more

This is my favorite airport in California. I look forward to flying in and out of here. Its modern, beautiful and not crowded. Security, boarding, check in, luggage pick up, passenger drop off are all very easy. The only issue being, and its a big one, is using the pay lot across from the terminal and trying to exit after a large flight arrives. There is ONE person in a booth who has to charge every person trying to leave. An automated system or a second lane is desperately needed. It took us over 20 minutes to exit. Each car taking 2-3 minutes at the booth. There were several behind us who no doubt had to wait longer. read more

I really don't appreciate getting blasted by the gate attendant for not having the right status parking ticket . When I left my vehicle there I was concerned about not having the right term ticket , the long term machine was broken, the security people said to tell someone which I did. When I left I told the male gate keeper and he said to just tell the gate person that you were in the long term parking with a short term ticket. The female gate attendant was quite rude and told me to ask for the correct ticket time or she would charge me the short time price read more

It's easy to get in and out of this small airport. Really, it's cool that there's even a decent airport at all serving Humboldt County. We flew out on a Monday afternoon and it was a breeze. We arrived a little over an hour before our flight with plenty of time to spare. There's a cafe right outside the terminal as well as a Hertz rental car desk. Since it's such a small airport, security was a tad slow when there was rush to get on the plane, but all-in-all much more laid back than a large airport. I flew to ACV from BUR and found the airport to be quaint and comfortable. I love the idea of the book pick/donation. I think the airport works well when things work well. However, on our way back we had a 5 hour or so flight delay. We didn't really have a comfortable place to hang out or a place to grab food/coffee/drinks. Because the airport doesn't have too many flights, the Avelo desk was closed and so was the car rental desk and others. We felt a bit stuck. Maybe it's the price to pay for cheap flights but something to be aware of. read more

Nothing but a hassle from my departing flight they told me lies and created delays for me and then when I was about to take off the plane had a mechanical issue which made my flight delayed again, to my return where they kept everyone waiting for luggage which they did not operate the belt very well then had everyone go to the other end of the airport to get their luggage of which they only put a few out then someone figured out how to operate the luggage belt then instead of just finishing the few remaining bags they took them back to the other end of the airport where the luggage belt is to get our bags after waiting for over a half hour. It was a small flight and not full and there was only a small amount of luggage left. Awful. read more

A surprisingly interesting little place... located several miles from different towns- a view of the ocean on one side, farms on the other. Their security is actually a little more strict than most major airports (like SFO), having to take all the food items out of your bag. Even for a 630 am flight, that place is bustling. One place to grab food from and not a lot of places to wait (besides the little cafe), if you're looking to rent a car. Fyi: Make sure you rent from the Hertz from the airport instead of the Eureka Hertz, otherwise you may end up having to call out for a ride. Our local little puddle jumper airport. Limited flights, hard to get in and out of when the weather is acting up - which is often here, especially during the spring and winter months. Limited flight services, only United and American fly in here. Flights are not cheap but it takes literally all day(6+ hours) to get to SAC or SFO from here driving - so sometimes catching a flight outta here is the only way. Pros: Easy Airport to get in and out of by other standards, very light check in at this airport - very few passengers, very easy to load and unload passengers, free parking (first 20 minutes) lot directly across from terminal. Early and Late flights in and out when flying. Cons: Hard to get out of here sometimes (weather), flights into airport cancelled regularly(weather/lack of passengers), very remote and small airport so only small jumper planes can even get in here. Very cool, tiny airport. It's a much welcomed site, compared to O'Hara or LAX! Everyone was so kind and helpful as I traveled through the terminal. Maybe it's just the rhythm of Northern California folk's here or, perhaps everyone burns a blunt before they head into work at the airport? Humboldt County does boast of being the largest region in California to produce quality tree ! In either case, I surely wish I could enjoy the friendly associates, cleanliness and ease of traveling through this comfortable airport, rather than the madness I continue to experience in larger cities. I am doing interim work in the area and almost every local person advised me to not use this airport but to drive 4 hours to Santa Rosa and fly out of that airpor. Now I know why. The employees here are extremely rude and those that were not outright rude have a very "I don't care attitude". They were definitely more concerned about having control and letting me know what I can't do and what they were not going to do instead of having a little compassion and helping me figure out my travel dilemma. I travel a lot and although my issue was not the end of the world, this is the poorest I have been treated in a very long time. What's not to like about a one-terminal airport. No fighting and jostling with thousands of fellow travelers, no confusion about where to go, no huge lines to wait through to check in or get by homeland security, and no hurriedly threading your way to distant areas via people movers or shuttles. The parking lot is right across the street, and the rental lots are as well, with the rental kiosks being right inside the terminal. It's small enough that there's no way for everything not to be conveniently located. Amenities are basic, with a single gift/coffee shop. There was a restaurant at one point but I believe it closed down. The place is clean, comfortable and convenient overall. The only downsides are the weather and the ticket prices. The weather (coastal fog) can sometimes cause delays, and the ticket prices tend to be expensive for the convenience. The closest international airport is in SF and sometimes it's actually cheaper to make the 4-5 hr journey down there to fly out, so that's a star. Otherwise I wish all airports could be this stress-free. read more

For such a tiny airport, this place is super clean and awesome. The 4 stars is practically reviewing the structural design. I am a huge fan of wood structures so all those exposed glulams makes this place aesthetically pleasing. In terms of the wait, you can expect to be delayed a lot because of the typical whether you get in Arcata. However, its a small airport and the fact they even have one that can fly to sfo is great. Prices can be high. If I rated this place on flights, I would give it a 2 star. But because I love those glulams, I am giving this place a 4 star. read more

I've spent a lot of time in this airport. In fact, my grandfather used to keep his airplane here, until he found a more easily accessible hangar a few towns over. With a pilot in the family, we always flew privately - until the time my great grandmother needed extra leg room and became co-pilot. Which scared the beejeezus out of the rest of us: "Don't worry, Kids! My chest feels a little tight, but if I have a heart attack, Great Grandma will fly the plane!" Terrific. Who doesn't want a 95-year old woman with dementia and cataracts flying your entire family over the Rockies? That incident scared my mom enough to convince her to pay a little extra so we could take commercial flights on summer vacations. This airport (ACV) has grown in the last few years, now serving not only small United flights, but Horizon as well. Flight arrivals are spread out far enough that my parents can hear my plane fly over their back deck and hop in the car to come down and get me from the field. Minus 1 star for not having a baggage claim area and throwing my luggage into a pop-up tent next to the parking lot out front. read more

I have had experience with this airport before but nothing compares to the terrible service I got tonight. I was just there to pick up a passenger and went into short term parking, the post was up so I drove right past the ticket machine (there was no reason to stop) and apparently the sign there said I needed to walk over and grab a parking ticket. I didn't do that and I frankly was fine paying the $2 fee but the lady up front was absolutely awful. She said that it was $2 and when I said I didn't know that she said she should be charging me $11 and if I just looked there was an obvious sign and that I should be paying more attention. I'm not one to usually complain about customer service but she was incredibly rude and had a terrible attitude that no customer should be treated with. I work in the service industry and I know better than to treat people like that and I really hope they find a better place to put her instead of dealing with customers. read more

I spent so many same day flights here. Before my son started school, I used to pick him up from here every two months (Yea I know, that's one expensive flight) just when my divorce was fresh. I'd find myself in the Silver Lining dining area, and sulk for hours till I get to fly home. Oh look, a distraction (digress)... This airport is clean, less congested and peaceful. It's a small airport that gets 3 arriving flights (and 3 departing) from Alaska per day (or at least everytime I flew which falls on a Friday or Saturday). There is only one security gate but it is so easy to go through. If you're a student, you can find peace here studying before a flight. The Silver Lining (diner/bar) serves as your source of provisions especially if you use the Holiday Inn Express down the road. The pace of the lifestyle here makes living in northern California appealing to me even though I'm an HB-bum kind of guy. read more

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this airport other than TSA, it's small, wait times are short, and the airline staff is friendly. However the elderly female employee with the badge title F***Z is completely unprofessional and incompetent and lacks compassion. I was traveling with a family heirloom that happened to contain some liquid which nobody measured to find if it was allowed by regulations or not. They refused to hold it for a family member to come pick it up and i couldn't check the bag due to the fragile nature of the item. If you're going to steal things from people at least hold them for pickup. read more
