First let me start by saying I loathe commercial flying, and it is only out of necessity that I do…read more I'll take you there and drop you off or even come pick you up but, it's my third preferred method of transportation. That being said, I recently had to fly to southern cal and it was a necessity so I endured. Also, please bear with me on my lengthiness but the details are worth sharing... Did not even get started and running late by over an hour right off the bat just confirmed again why I loathe commercial flying. Finally make my first leg to have mere minutes to make my other flight (24 gates away and a different terminal) so I run and I mean run the whole way just to barely make my next flight. Now we sit and sit and sit, only to be told that the plane we're on is broken and we must change planes 12 gates away. Finally make it into SNA with less than 2 minutes to spare before the curfew starts at that airport better late than never. Now my return, even worse - get to the airport early, get to my gate with literally an hour to spare. Now this flight is delayed by over 4 hours making me miss my entire connection home in SFO. So now I have to leave the secure area which requires rescreening again and try to reschedule my entire return trip. It gets even worse, not only does it put me back by five hours I now have lost my first class seating and premier access because of their mistake as there is no way to accommodate me and what I paid extra for. So instead of being home in 5 hours, now I must endure what I consider the most blatant disregard for the passenger overall. Thank god my wife travels a lot and has passes and upgrades galore, for if not I would be just an average customer. There is finally customer service at SNA in the United Club (so if you're joe average customer in "basic economy" forget about help) there I was told of all kinds of ways possible home but none from there that evening only at LAX was the last flight of the night a few hours away so I take a shot at it get me on the plane. I actually had better and quicker results using my own damn app on my phone while in route via Lyft and was able to upgrade my ticket and seat assignment easily for additional money, and of course there was. Now I make it to and through security and make it to gate and wait for about 75 minutes or so and the start of the stated boarding time has come and gone and nothing. Next the pilot comes out to the counter and says there is a delay with the weather of at least 4-5 hours. Wtf? I know better it's already late past 21:00 hours. As I'm walking away from the gate call for a ride and make I way out of LAX where sheer chaos ensues. Head back to the hotel and get on my app, change my reservation and seats one more freakin time. Thank god for the app. A whole day later, Uber my way back to LAX again, through security one more time and finally to the designated gate and finally get home via SFO... this only confirmed ~ Nothing has changed in the 18 plus years since the last time I've flown commercially. It still a stressful way to travel really nothing enjoyable about it. If you're not willing or able to buy the "upgraded" forget about basic human interaction with the help. On top of it all even if you are willing to pay extra money for a certain level of comfort while using this method of travel there are no guarantees of said services and not having it honored really blows on a multiple of levels. It just reiterated in my mind why I loathe commercial flying. Drive, ride a bike, take the train, hell hitchhike it's faster... 1.5 Stars there are much better ways to travel imho rounded up for just making it home 00609

If you're flying out of Humboldt County, ACV is your go-to--and while it's tiny (blink and you'll…read moremiss it), it gets the job done! They've got one little coffee shop to fuel up while you wait, but don't expect much beyond that. United Airlines tends to be pretty disorganized here, and delays seem to be the norm, unfortunately. BUT--I recently discovered Avelo Airlines. Nothing fancy, but they were on time, and they fly to Burbank...which is super convenient! the tickets were super affordable. Win-win! One downside of ACV--there are no luggage carts anywhere. I had a heavy box with me, and there wasn't a single cart on site. Thankfully, a kind TSA officer helped me carry it to my car (shoutout to them!). Parking is $16/day, which is honestly a steal compared to other airports, and I felt safe leaving my car there for 3 days. Overall, it's a quirky little airport, but it's got charm and gets the essentials right.

There are only 2 terminals and one of them was EMPTY and stayed empty for over an hour while we were forced to sit against our will. Their reasoning? The other one was "reserved." They could have de boarded that entire aircraft in less time than they made everyone sit. This was a COMPLETE disaster/nightmare. I mean this could not have been a worse experience if I tried. NEVER will I recommend flying into this airport to anyone.

The airport rentals aren't open on Sunday so i brought it back on Monday (never drove the car other than to and from the airport) when i returned, the gal in the lot was ready to pounce on me about damages when i dropped it off she screamed at me and basically called me a liar when i said i didn't damage their car she then filed a claim i countered and said what happened but enterprise didn't do anything to resolve the situation and i had to pay $1300 for damages i believe we're already there i hope the jerk i returned the vehicle gets the karma she has coming to her. i will never rent from enterprise ever again. Sixt, Budget and every other rental company i've dealt with have always been very accommodating and a professional. if you rent from this place, check your vehicle and take pictures.

My wife, her mom, and I spent two nights here as we explored the various parks (national and state) in the area, and found it to be good place to stay. I made the reservation for two nights via Chase Travel, total of $536.06. Holiday Inn is part of the IHG rewards program (which having a CSR credit card will automatically give Platinum Elite status, though it didn't really provide anything additional worth mentioning). One good thing though is that one will earn nights and points through the IHG rewards program, even if booked through an on-line third party travel agency (which usually doesn't happen). Just need to make sure that your rewards number is listed in the reservation (mine wasn't). Another big benefit is that you get a $250 annual credit if using your CSR for a 2+ night stay at an IHG hotel. It has shuttle service to the airport, and we noticed airline employees taking advantage of it. Surface parking is free, with plenty of spots. We noticed a section where rental bikes were available, for those who wanted to ride at the Hammond Costal Trail. Our two queen room was fine, and it was an accessible, meaning the bathroom and front area were very large. It was a shower/tub combo unit and the water pressure was very strong, best we had on the trip. Shampoo and soap were Dove products, which my MiL really liked. Beds were comfortable, the large flat screen TV had a variety of basic cable channels, and a large work desk with a comfortable office chair. A microwave, coffee maker, and small fridge completed the set-up. The room had a modern thermostat, connected to a Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner, which worked well. The hotel does have an indoor pool, guest laundry room, and 24-hour fitness center. The lobby has two Costa Coffee espresso machines, with freshly ground coffee beans. The breakfast/lobby area is decently sized with a nice complementary breakfast in the morning (opens at 6:30), and a section of to-go items for those that want to get an earlier start. Free freshly popped corn was available throughout the day, which my wife took advantage. We were able to take advantage of the full breakfast on the 2nd morning, and I liked the premade Green Chile Egg Chorizo & Cheddar breakfast burritos available. There was no make your own waffle machine; instead, a 'Go Ahead Pan-cake my day' machine that made pretty decent pancakes ("in a minute flat"...l love puns :-).

It's right by the airport, but it was surprisingly peaceful. I went on a quick walk around the area and it was actually really nice. Walking inside, you're immediately welcomed into a very pretty Holiday Inn Express--it's clean, bright, and just feels good to be in. They had free cookies and popcorn, plus a little complimentary coffee and hot chocolate bar, which after a long day of driving was genuinely appreciated. The woman who checked me in was wonderful--super kind, long gray hair, just a really pleasant person. She even gave me a room with a small balcony view, which was such a nice bonus after being on the road all day. The room itself was clean, modern, and I had zero issues with it. They also offer a complimentary breakfast buffet, which matters more than people admit--there are hotels that cost more than this and don't even offer that. Holiday Inn Express isn't luxurious, and that's not an insult. It's not trying to be. It's clean, comfortable, reliable, and consistently better than you expect. You go in with low expectations and leave thinking, okay, I get why people swear by this. For what it is, it really punches above its weight, and I'm genuinely glad we stayed here. Thanks!
