What a charming and eclectic store with an warm welcoming energy! You can spend hours walking around looking at all the well curated collection of goodies. Wind-chimes, drums, signing bowls, crystals, inscents, candles, soaps, wallets, postcards, cloths, plants and much much more. Fair trade, hand crafted, and some local items. The staff is friendly and the owner is a wealth of knowledge. I was very lucky to have an opportunity to ask her questions and talk to her about several different items that I was interested in. I learned origin stories about some of the items, what certain meanings of specific crystals were and also care tips for the baby jade plant I took home with me. Great spot for fun gifts on Monroe Ave! It has such a range of items from more gag gift type items, to cooking, stationary, pride flags/items, clothes, and a fair trade crafts section (very similar to one world goods in Pittsford plaza). I also noticed some items from local vendors I've seen before. Prices are moderate and really depends on the item as there's so much variety here. There's street parking and a parking lot behind the building (enter it after the poster art store). read more

If you're on the Monroe Ave area and need to kill some time or find a quirky host gift, this is the spot to do it. There are a few different sections, each offering up something new and different. Staff is always incredibly friendly and the location and parking is super easy. There's parking around the back of the building and then also directly on Monroe. First time at this place and sad I didn't go sooner. They have a lot of different things like toys for kids, odds and ends for the kitchen, jewelry, stones, salts, tapestry's, chimes, Buddha statues of all sizes, other statues, and other misc fun things you could give as gifts or for yourself. So much to look at I think o spent and hour looking around. I specially went looking for a chime and tapestry and was half successful. I first fell in love with Archimage when I was in high school. Friends convinced me to drive to the city with them to walk around the section of Monroe Ave between Goodman and Rutgers. Back then we thought we were super cool hanging out on the street with a totally eclectic group of strangers who ranged from restaurant workers, straight edge musicians, punk rockers, artisans at the local arts center, and other random people. I remember when we first walked into Archimage and I was immediately hit with this feeling that this was my place! So many imports! So much color! So much jewelry! And other cool random stuff! I didn't have much money back then, but I could certainly appreciate everything they had on offer and save my pennies for my favorites. Over the last few decades, I have made Archimage a regular stop when shopping for gifts. I have purchased everything from ceramics to jewelry to gag gifts to scratch and sniff stickers to journals to instruments to CDs to incense to bandaids. I usually do not leave without something for myself as well, and to this day, I have an overnight bag (imported from Indonesia), a dress (imported from India), and a pair of silver and turquoise earrings (from Mexico) that are among my most favorite treasured possessions, all purchased at Archimage. I could almost DARE you NOT to find something you like/love/need because I am so confident there is literally something for everyone in that shop. They are also locally owned and they have been a long time anchor in the upper Monroe neighborhood. Definitely high on my list of recommended places to shop! Archimage has been a staple in my life since I discovered it about six years ago. I used to come here every week in high school to buy a new ring. I've since learned that's an irresponsible habit, but I have a hell of a ring collection now. They have beautiful jewelry with genuine semi-precious stones and intricate detail at a good price. You can spend anywhere between $10 to $40 on a good ring and they last me a very long time. This store has a lot more to offer like gifts, musical instruments, clothing and decorations, but for me the rings are the main event. I have been a loyal customer for years and I will continue to return as long as I'm in Rochester! If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I recommend parking in the church lot a little down the street, it's empty unless it's a Sunday morning. read more

I usually come here for all my hippie crap I like...crystals, stones, tie-dye treasures, incense, etc...but they have a ton of other really awesome stuff here like fun little knick-knacks, hair accessories, jewelry, toys and gags, sunglasses, clothes, sculptures, fair trade stuff...it's definitely worth a visit. I just bought a pair of snow quartz earrings and a gorgeous Bismuth here and I think it was fairly priced. We were just walking to check out what the neighborhood of Swillburg had to offer when we happened to pass a store that seemed to have the cluttered windows that tend to attract my attention. I was thinking that I was going into an antique store of some sort, but when we walked in I was pleasantly surprised at the eclectic new merchandise that this store had to offer. (It was a good sign when one of the locals said that it was a fun store while we were deciding whether or not to enter.) There were quality cards and wrapping, fun items for all levels of humor (I love the selection of Kikkerland merchandise), ware from different parts of the world such as African and Latin rhythm instruments for kids and kids at heart, rugs and woven items from India, and dinnerware (now I know where to go for Japanese bowls and chopsticks actually made in Japan). . . affordable jewelry of good quality, a small selection of clothing and a large selection of accessories, rainbow items, home decor that included items to help get you into your happy place (calming water sculptures, salt lamps, incense), items made in the USA (beautiful cracked glass coasters) . . . so many things that you have to go and check it out yourself. Apparently, they've been around for over 30 years! I'm thinking they have survived because they have something for everyone and the staff is very friendly. I've been going here for 20+ years now. I love all of the unique items in that store. I can get lost in there for hours. It's a great place to go for gifts. You can always find something for someone there. I adore the Japanese pottery section, and the selection of rocks, crystals and incense. I always find the staff to be very helpful. The great part about buying a gift is that they will box is all up for you at no extra charge. I always find something fun in there. Parking can be a bit tough, but it's the city, if there are no spots in a lot park on the street and walk a bit. I don't mind. read more

Archimage always brings out my inner hippie. This boutique is located smack dab in the middle of Monroe Ave and offers unique gifts and knick knacks for the friend who has it all. The store is crowded with the most random things you'll ever think you need, and somehow do. wooden chopsticks anyone? How about a six pack of mustaches? Don't mind if I do.... I stopped in last weekend after a trip to Poster Art to be inspired. Bored with my clothes I wanted something different, something funky, something cool. Lucky me, I found exactly what I was looking for. The clothes in Archimage are just as random as the quirky accessories. Sure, I could have gone for the dyed red faux fur shag coat but I opted for a simple long sleeve maroon dress with an open back, paired with my own tights and boots - BOOM - Saturday night. Archimage isn't the clean and tidy store with helpful associates, it's quite messy actually and I'm not even sure I've ever been able to tell who even works there but that's why I like it so much. Very flea market-esque poculli smell and all. With the upcoming holiday, Archimage is the perfect place for stocking stuffers or office gag gifts. I finally checked out this place.. I found a parking spot on the street! Thats a slight issue but oh well. If your looking for a very cool card you will not find anyplace else this is it. This is a great place to pick up a gift for practically anyone on your list. I have purchased several home items, jewelry, and accessories. They are all great quality and I get tons of compliments on every single purchase. I have been a customer there for over 20 years and it is the greatest store. You can buy home furnishings, calendars, clothes, jewelry, journals, soaps and scented oils. They have a large collection of tapestries, bumper stickers (you should see the ones I have on my car). They have silly toys, kids clothes, Buddha Statues, Exotic Music CDs and Musical Instrument for both kids and adults ( I own one of their Djembes). I have been going here for over 15 years and always find something there.
