Worst customer service ever. Trying to finish up a tiled shower and just needed one more box of tile to finish up the shower. I have been waiting over two weeks to have them send one box from Seattle to Portland. I spoke to one of the customer service managers at the Portland office who completely ignored my concerns, spoke down to me and then proceeded to hang up on me. I highly recommend you do not purchase or plan any projects that would use their products. read more

Entering the world of tile has been an education. Sometimes an education in frustration. Pental is the manufacturer and they have a gorgeous showroom in the Northwest Industrial area, but then you need to work with a fabricator or tile contractor to get the pricing and install the product. It is a challenge because you won't get a price quote from Pental, so you can spend a lot of time looking before realizing you are choosing an item well above your budget. In our particular case, we had a smaller scale project, so we ended up looking for remnants, not a full slab. So you go to the showroom and fall in love with a quartz slab, then have the not-so-fun process of trying to track down the material, since Pental does not sell remnants or partial slabs. A lot of this information is kept very close to the vest, since it is in their best interest to sell full slabs to fabricators and contractors, so you see where the frustration comes in as a direct consumer. I went to Pental because my parents just used their materials in a gorgeous bathroom remodel and they had a good experience. In their case, they used a designer and had a different budget, so not surprising it was a smoother process for them. I like their style since my design style goes toward the contemporary. If you are looking for patterns and decorative tile, then Pratt & Larsen is probably the go-to shop in Portland. I've visited a multitude of suppliers in the area and by comparison, my personal experience of walking in the door and looking for help was only so-so here. I had a better experience at United Tile and Pratt & Larsen, although Pental didn't require I check out and return samples of the items I chose. read more

This is my first and LAST remodel using this company. I purchased Pental quartz slabs with their 15-year guarantee. Within three months of installation one of the slabs became chipped in several placed and were deemed "too small to epoxy" and it was likely "caused by a butter knife". A few months later I discovered a much more seriously damaged edge, which Pental representatives, in spite of my assurance that I had not taken a hammer, or some other implement of destruction to it, decided the damage was exactly that; the result of an impact. They have a great selection but when it comes to ordering and receiving the correct items they deserve less than one star. We used them for a remodel and all of their mistakes cost us weeks and thousands of extra dollars. It took 3 orders to get a small amount of tile for the backsplash to be received. First order not enough was ordered by them. Second order they ordered the wrong color tile. Third order we got what we needed finally 3 weeks later. Each time we had to drive downtown to get the products. The worst was that we had two slabs on hold for our kitchen. When the kitchen was done in one we thought they released the other one. We had a design change in our master bath and went back and picked out a new slab. We told the salesman that our contractor would be there in an hour and to release this slab to him. What did they do? They released the extra kitchen slab to them! We walk into our bathroom and it's already been cut and installed! We were so mad as it completely changed how our bathroom looked not to mention it cost us a few thousand dollars more! My husband tried talking to their manager numerous times and they would not budge nor acknowledge their mistake in releasing the wrong slab. So now I have a bathroom that is completely different than what I had in mind with the remodel courtesy of Architectural Surfaces not giving a damn or getting things right. read more

Walking into a store and not even being acknowledged, while older people that entered after us (that staff seemed to presume to have more money?) got the red carpet treatment was quite disrespectful and insulting. Condescending and presumptive staff that had my wife and I turned off from the second we walked in the store. My wife and I walked in ready to spend money on counters and tile, but after the way we were greeted and treated, or should say lack thereof, we walked out with a sour taste in our mouths and spent all our money at another tile place in SE that were genuine and accommodating the second we walked in. read more

If you enjoy shopping at an establishment that is pretentious and they feel like they're there only for you to serve them then this is the place for you. The girls behind the will call/warehouse glass were rude and unhelpful and acted as if we were putting them out when trying to get information. (Fork lift operators were very friendly snd helpful) Even calling back trying to find out if product was available they were put out that we were bothering them. Guess what girls, you're there to serve us, customer service should be the priority not the other way around. Thank God I found another company local that had very friendly helpful staff and we are now purchasing all of our granite for our 7000 square-foot house. If I was Pantal I would invest into customer service classes for my employees. read more

our contractor and fabricator recommended pental as a great source for white "marble" quartz slabs for our kitchen remodel, so, after investing quite a bit of time and energy researching and looking at slabs from other companies, we decided to purchase from them. we had seen multiple samples at multiple locations of the color we wanted and assumed that with a company like this, quality control of a manmade product would not be an issue. WE WERE SO WRONG! we needed oversized slabs and they didn't have them in the warehouse we had visited in person, so they had to ship them in from seattle directly to our fabricator, who was in salem. we live in portland, and it was not feasible for us to travel to either location to see the slabs in person. but, like i said, these are manmade and the recipe is controlled and we had already seen multiple other slabs in the color we ordered and they were all great, so why would we expect them to look like anything else?! the day our countertops were delivered/installed we walked into our kitchen to find sky blue quartz countertops!!! not white, not off white, not grey, but SKY BLUE! we immediately assumed there must have been a mistake, what other explanation could there be?! everyone could see this was a very different color and not even close to what it should be. we then contacted neil at pental to discuss the problem (sent him multiple pictures), we figure he'd see how blue they were and have us reselect a different slab and we'd all move on, cause that would be the professional thing to do. but do you know what he said? he said "that's in the realm of good enough" and they stand behind the color and will not replace it or give us a refund or anything! he did happily suggest we BUY new slabs though! we are now stuck with sky blue countertops in our white/ivory kitchen and they are basically telling us "too bad", with a smile! why do they offer like 10 different white tone options if they can't control how they turn out? one would hope that a big company like this would take the initiative to make things right where they have failed in quality control, but apparently we are just one small customer and they couldn't care less because they already have our money and we are no longer their concern. terrible quality and terrible customer service! shocking experience! read more

Hey have a really bad system on how much the granite is. Instead of telling people the cost per square foot so people know how much they would be paying they use a stupid grade system. And the guys who work at the warehouse were extremely rude when I asked how the system worked. They were disrespectful. For someone coming in and bringing business they sure turned me away! I would never buy from them because of the way I was treated for asking about cost. They practically spit in my face for asking price per square foot! If you buy granite I would highly recommend Casa Bella! They at least tell you exactly what you need to know! read more

My salespersonTara was patient, informative and great at listening to my non-designer descriptions, and the rest of the staff made for an amazing visit. What great representatives for some really amazing modern and specialty tile. The slab showroom is terrific as well, with a wide range of quartz slabs that I wasn't expecting. I am reviewing Boston Tile as well as Pental Surfaces response to problems with this tile. Boston tile is beautiful, but there is an absolute problem with this tile after it is installed. Tiles literally fell off the wall after a few weeks on install. They had not been grouted and our tile setter said that if they had been; we would never have know until the grout started to crack. We contacted Pental and the manager came out to investigate. His attitude was condescending as he accused our tile installer as having dried mud, etc. There was no investigation of Pental's Boston tile. I am the home owner of a new build which had three bathrooms showers done, kitchen back splash, all floors in all bathrooms and laundry room done by this tile setter with different manufactured tiles. The results were stellar accept for the Boston tile that will not adhere to the wall. There is a powdery coating on the back that easily releases from the mud. My tile setter volunteered to eat the cost of the time he put in to install the tile and to grind down those tiles in hopes that they would adhere to the wall. That is integrity, as opposed to Pental's manager who could not be bothered to investigate the problems with this tile. Every single one of Boston tile popped off the wall easily without breakage while the trim pieces he installed from a different manufacturer are intact: so it is obviously not his fault or the fault of the mud he used. In the end I used a different manufactured tile which is holding up quite well as are all the different tiles that are not Penal tiles. I will never use any of their products again as they take no responsibility for the quality of their tiles. My warning to anyone who wants to purchase this tile or has already installed it----grout is the only thing holding it to the wall and when it cracks water will get behind it and you will have mold! Do not rely on Pental Tile to take responsibility for the products they sell. I am really disappointed in their response and how they back up the products they sell. read more

My contractor sent me to Pental to look at quartz for the counters in my kitchen remodel. I had narrowed my preferences to a couple of colors before I went, and explained to one of the women at the front counter the style of kitchen we are building. She showed me their product, and gave me some additional advice about saving money on some subway tile I was interested in. When I was ready to leave she put my samples in a bag plus an extra one she thought I would like that wasn't up front. Turns out I liked that one best of all. It was time to upgrade our kitchen counters with a solid surface and tile back splash. I visited a number of local suppliers and found that the best selection and customer service came from Pental. Both Lisa and Neil took the time to help me find just the right products for my project. Lisa in the showroom walked me through the options and price ranges. Neil helped locate 3 pieces of granite in the warehouse that I liked and let me look at all three to decide which one would work best. After narrowing down my granite the entire staff helped me decide what side counters material and back splash tile blended and went best together. My clients selected tile from samples displayed at Pental Tile in Portland, OR. We ordered about 25 sf of simple 3x6 tile for kitchen backsplash as part of a larger kitchen remodel. Over 90% of the tiles shipped had the texture of sandpaper, not exactly a great finish to use in a kitchen setting. When wiped with a paper towel and window cleaner, the rough surface of the tile tore the paper towel and left bits of paper on the surface. Tried to return the tiles, but was told that the finish was within acceptable tolerances of a hand-crafted tile. At approximately $100/sf, I expected better service and support from Pental and Mercury Mosaic. I'm not new to working with tile, as I've been remodeling homes for 15 years, and my tile setter has been in business for over 30 years. We came here to pick a countertop slab but found some tile for one of our remodel projects. The woman working behind the front desk was friendly and answered some of my questions. She informed me that they could order the tile for arrival in 2 days. I made a call to my contractor to confirm how much tile I needed to order. During that time the customer service person was working with someone else. A different customer service person comes to the front desk and offers to help but tells me she can't order the tile for me. I told her I was told we could; she makes a comment how the other girl was wrong. I ask for a quote and she doesn't want to give me a quote; thinks my contractor should manage it. As I leave, I can hear the rep make a comment to the other customer service rep about her screw up (it wasn't done in a professional way). I realize that I was given misinformation and that happens sometimes, but I did not like the attitude or tone the second rep used toward me or their own employee. read more

This place is disneyland if you love rocks. Beautiful showroom, but the granite and marble warehouse is where the fun it at. It's large enough to really get a good view of each of the slabs, see what you're buying and compare to other options. The big black dude bouncer is a little odd in a place you clearly can't run off with their merchandise, but it adds character. read more

We are remodeling our kitchen and wanted granite for all the kitchen surfaces; counter tops, island and buffets. Pental has an amazing warehouse with many granites to choose from. The warehouse lighting is great so you can see the colors. The warehouse guys are super and knowledgeable.
