Decided to see what the winery situation was in this area and visited three wineries. The Arche Winery felt like the most experienced of those we visited. The tasting room is large with spaces inside and out. The food menu is very small. We had flatbread and it was actually very good. They are small, so two might be in order for two people. For the wine tasting, you can do three different flights - all white, all red and mixed. Having gone to scores of wineries around the world, I am always disappointed when the wine tastings are these kinds of prearranged flights. I vastly prefer it when you can merely select the wines you want, and if that is a combination of some of each kind so be it. This approach kind of forces you into more flights than you might want to do to get a broad sampling. I would say 80% of the wineries visited around the world offer the guest selects, not the preset. For that reason, we had two flights - one red and one white. All the wines were actually quite good. We preferred two of the whites and two of the reds over others: County Line White 2022, Roussanne 2021, Cuvée 2021, and Mourvèdre 2021. If I had a larger group or if I were doing a couple of wineries during a day, I would definitely make this one of the two. Felt it was the second-best wine during our day, just below the first and well ahead of the third place. So, overall, great location, excellent service and knowledge, quite good wine in several categories, best of all we visited for a group. read more

We came on Sunday and we had the Syrah and the Texas Rose and they were exceptional. The cheese plate we ordered comes with three cheeses, salami, crackers and fruit. It pairs well with the wine. We spoke to Amy and Howard the owners who are very nice and knowledgeable. It's always nice to talk with people passionate about wine and they have quite a bit of knowledge of wines. We drove up from Dallas to do the St Jo area winery tour, and each of the three we visited had a respectable wine selection and their own their respective pros and cons. Nice little winery out in the country, a pleasant place to visit for a while and chat and taste some really interesting wines. It's apparently pronounced Arkay. I liked that you get to drive through a small part of the vineyard to get to the parking lot. We tried four wines and our favorite by far was the Roussanne dessert wine, which made us feel all warm and happy inside. We bought a bottle of that to take home and sadly it did not last long. The staff was very welcoming and friendly and didn't rush us. The tasting area was spacious and comfortable. Overall we liked the wine selection we tasted at the nearby Blue Ostrich better, but that Roussanne dessert wine is something special. Arche doesn't have the stellar view that Blue Ostrich does, but it has a really nice space for visitors, and we were more comfortable doing our tasting there. It has a more casual feel. Arche also has nicer, cleaner restrooms. I would recommend going to both for different reasons. read more

Arrive at the Arche' winery for a taste of red or rosé and a leisurely tour of their Oak Creek Vineyards and you will think you left Texas and were transported to France (or at least Napa). Apparently, after a family vacation in Napa, California twelve years ago, the owner and his wife decided to grow grapes commercially. They looked for land within a fifty-mile radius of their Plano home, but found and could not find the right site, so they expanded their search. Finally they found what they were looking for--115 acres conducive to growing grapes, including an abandoned vineyard. In three months, they cleared the property and replanted the wild Venus vines inherited from the original vineyard. The forty-seven more rows of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Syrah grapevines were added, more than doubling the size of Oak Creek Vineyard! At 300 square feet, Arché may well be the smallest commercial winery in Texas with all of Arche's wine made from its own grapes. Its varietals and blends are made from Syrah, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon as well as the hearty, but less commonly known Roussane, Mourvèdre, Granache and Carignan grapes. Most of the rootstock came from California, but these grape varieties originate from the Bordeaux and Rhone regions of France and the northern regions of Italy. When I asked if they planned to grow a Sangiovese, the owner explained how he preferred the more commonly known French varietals over the Italian. I tried to convince him Americans knew about Pinot Noir, but he just laughed and said "only if they say Sideways". read more

Love the 2012 Roussanne, the Ryan's Red (Syrah) is pretty tasty for a Texas Syrah and the 2010 Cab Sav is smoky with deep dark cherries and leather is pleasing to the palate. Final taste is a 2011 Syrah with notes of tobacco. Wine club is a nice option if you plan on coming back to the area but the are also available in some liquor stores and restaurants in the area. read more

Outstanding in every way! View, venue and vino! The folks here were lively, informative and helpful. We visited with one of the owners and he shared the history of the vineyard and his family stewardship of it. Most engaging. We sampled a delicious Pinot noir and sat outside as we had a dog with us where the weather was ideal. They are preparing to add a full patio area which sounds awesome as the views here are stunning. They have one wine with a label designed by one of my very favorite artists- Donna Howell Sickles! Wow what a great combination- wine, scenery and art. read more

The wine was good, the staff were attentive and the cheese board was awesome. We'll be back when the weather is warmer and we can check out the beautiful patio seating area. my current boyfriend and I went here on one of our first dates. such a good memory! the setting itself is so serene. The building where you can enjoy some tastings is surrounded by windows looking out onto their vast property. they offer cheese plates and other snacks I believe, so no need to worry about going hungry. Visited Arche before my Mister and I had a wonderful dinner at Ancient Ovens for our night get away in St. Jo. It was such a relaxing beautiful experience to start our evening with a lovely glass of wine as we watched sunset by a beautiful fire at Arche Winery! Incredible service and tasteful wine! We have been coming to Arché for 10 years, and the venue has improved continuously. What has not changed is the fact that their wines are first-rate. They have won major awards in California, and you will not find a better roussanne. Anywhere. A lot of their grapes are estate grown, and it is not unusual to have Grayson, the winemaker, behind the counter pouring wine for you. This is a great place for enophiles. read more

This was our second stop on a Saturday afternoon wine tour in the Saint Jo area, and it exceeded our expectations. Beautiful tasting room with a fireplace and a live musician, with outdoor seating for those sunny warm days to view the rolling hills and vineyard. Excellent cheese plate pairs nicely.
