I come here for gas when I'm nearby. The prices here are usually pretty low, and it's easy to get in and out of this place!! Located across the street from the Bayfair Center, on the Target side, I always use cash for gas, so I have no issues. Great gas prices but I don't like how they leave all the lights on after midnight and lock the pumps. Lights on but nobody's home kinda deal. Great gas prices - Arco seems to have the best gas prices right now - all that advertising about paying and arm and a leg isn't just lip service. I've seen good prices at Speedway and odd off brand places. I no longer patronize the places that charge $1 more per gallon than the least expensive. Only problem is they leave all the lights on (see photo) and lock the pumps. I have no problem with short business hours - but I think its unfair to people's time to make them believe its open when in reality its not. I drove by a 76 tonight in Castro Valley that was obviously closed. All the lights off. No prices visible. Clearly closed. This place isn't so bad. I filled up on 12/9/23 and the cash price for regular gas was $4.01 which was one of the cheapest gas prices in the area. Paying by credit was 10 cents more. The store inside is small. The lady working was friendly and greeted me as I walked in. I like how this place has windshield fluid and squeegees for you to clean your windshield and windows. Some gas stations don't even bother with this anymore. They have a functional air/water machine but it requires 4 quarters to operate. You can even bring your car here for a smog check. As long as they continue to sell cheap gas, I will be back! read more

Got gas at Arco on Hesperian Blvd across from Bayfair Mall. I went to Bayfair Bart so afterwards stopped by for gas Sat night. I didn't have to wait for a stand & the lady in front of me left soon after I pulled in, so I just pulled forward. Cash Only is the cheapest way here, if you use ATM they'll charge you. Ok, so the advertised $29.95 to smog your car is pricing for MOST cars. Bigger cars like Maury my Murano costs $39.95. Uhhg! They were fast and provided friendly service tho. My tank was at about a quarter tank and after putting about 20 bucks worth of gas in it did not rise / register. It should have been over the half way mark. Took my car here since it was convenient and close. The usual place I go to is closed. My smog check ended up being $50 but it failed and the guy couldn't tell me why. I been coming to Duke for more then 20 years before I got married lol. He has been honest with me from the beginning. I don't get gas there, just a smog check and when my car breaks down . Sometimes he will give me a free oil change when I get my car fixed. Minus one star for price. It is little pricey I think but because I trust him, I just let him fix my car . Go here if you want to get abused by the employees. The south of the border employees don't speak enough English to tell you that there's a charge for using the debit only place but they're quick to cuss and use the "F" word if you forget to press something at the end of your transaction. I figured I would give this place a try since they're a little closer to home, turned out to be a huge headache. I was there for an hour just for them to fail my 03 Silverado's visual inspection because they could not locate my egr valve, which I later find out with a little research that GM eliminated them in 02 models. Unfortunately my daughter took her car to be diagnosed here, although I advised her to take it to the dealership/service. We had Duc (or as he pretends to be aka Duke) look at our car. I had originally found out that our warranty would cover the repairs; however, only barely a half an hour after we left Arco, Duc insisted he already replaced the old part with the new part - and I had an odd feeling he was being DISHONEST. No person with a conscience that you tell that you could've had this service for FREE would insist on lying just to make a few extra bucks off of a struggling college student. He would probably contest and say, but you authorized me to do it; however, when we left Arco, he said he still needed to wait for the parts in the morning, so how did he get his "new" part in already within a few minutes + put that in the car so swiftly (hmmmm)? He lied again later and said that it got there before our in-person discussion. So many inconsistencies. AKA lies. I just felt at a loss and a literal financial loss because we don't have $600 just growing out of trees for us to pay this avaricious piece of work. When we picked up our vehicle today, he was abrupt and insolent, and when I asked what the warranty was, he argued vehemently that 6 months/6K miles was standard for ALL dealership shops. I asked nicely if we could request 12 months, but he got P.O.'d and raised his voice - then walked away like a little beta. VERY unprofessional. So I called our extended warranty (bc they said there's a possibility for a reimbursement under certain conditions; and I relayed this info and was advised to obtain his labor rate which he did not provide in writing or on the receipt and for this so called "mechanic" to actually write this warranty on the paperwork which he DID NOT. I read it cover to cover and there was no language indicating this information. Then when I returned to Arco, he started yelling at me, although I approached him respectfully (but now I'm peeved) - he never even said thanks for your business the first time. He NOW changed the warranty from 6 months to 3 MONTHS/3K MILES. DEFINITELY A PATHETIC AND PATHOLOGICAL LIAR. He griped like a little snowflake when I asked him to write the warranty down and put his labor rate and then sign the receipt. He acted like it was both rocket science and HARD LABOR. He screamed, "I've never had a customer like this".. wahhhhh wahhhh wahhhh...all I said was, pls just be professional and do your job. When I walked out, I just stated, he was unprofessional. Came here for a smog test on a Monday morning. I thought they opened at 8AM, so I got there around 7:45AM. I was the first one there because I found that they opened their garage for smog tests at 8:30AM. I waited and one other car came around 8:25AM also for a smog test and one other car came for some other car work. Inside there's a small waiting area with 3 seats where you can wait for your car. There's a small tv but it's facing toward the inside of the store, so bring a book or something to do inside while you wait. The guy who helped me was really nice and spoke English well, despite what other people's reviews say. My Civic's smog check was $29.95 but I heard other cars can be $39.95. Certificate for the smog check is $8.25. You have to pay for the smog check, whether your car passes or fails the test. I had my car in less than an hour after they opened. Overall, it's a great place to get a smog check, as long as you bring something to do while you wait. read more

I was in the bay area from LA when my car wouldn't start. Took the car to this place after a friends recommendation. After Duke took a look, he exactly pinpointed the problem and suggested we take the car to Nissan because involved the car's computer. Told Nissan about Duke's findings and they fixed it in about an hour. I should mention that Nissan dealerships couldn't figure out this problem for over two years. read more

This is the worst place to get a smog test. Don't waste your time and money. Customer service sucks and doesn't seem like they care at all. I fail my smog test and they still charge me a full price for a fail smog test over $50. I ask if they smog my car again for the second time, how much are they going to charge me. They said only $5 dollar off the total price. SO your looking about $65 dollar out the door for a second smog test. That is a rip off! Came here to get gas today (1/30/19 around 5pm), the day before I get paid. My gas tank was completely empty. Came in with $10. In quarters. Unfortunately that's all the money I had to get home, not my finest hr. The lady at the counter said they only accept $5 in change. Since when is change not an acceptable form of American currency?! And what is $5 going to do when 1 gallon costs $3.50+?! So dumb-founded I paid the $5 & pumped my gas then moved to another pump and proceeded to go in with $5 more. I at least go to this place 5-9 times a year which I guess you can say is not bad since this won't be a biased opinion unlike some people that reviewed this place saying the don't know that much english......maybe the person that wrote this one is the one that doesn't know that much english. The service here is good in my opinion, and they get the job done faster than most gas stations I go to. They are helpful by also telling you anything else they did like maybe a small tune up on the car in places where they would be needed. THIEVES! On 01-11-11 I had to stop for gas because I was on empty. I used my debit card on the outside machine for pump#8, nearest Hesperian Blvd. On 01-12-11 I received an e-mail alert stating my Visa Veri-Sign password had been changed. I checked my bank account and there was charge processing for $996.13 to an online store based out of Korea! I contacted my bank immediately. I also had my debit card canceled and replaced with a new one. Thank goodness my bank has 100% protection for unauthorized purchases. There were no other transactions in my account or my three credit card accounts with the same bank. I had used my card at a big box store that morning at the register and that was the only other place I had used it for several days. After thinking about how someone could had gotten my debit card number since I keep it on me at all times (except for when I sleep) the light bulb went on! The machine at ARCO had a 'skimmer' on it! If you do not know what a skimmer is it is a device that is placed on any type of 'ATM' type machine so when you run your card through it it store your card number and personal information which can be used on line for purchases. Skimmers are usually installed at convenience stores and gas stations and are also used by crooked employees when you pay for dinner, etc. they can have a hand held skimmer they use when they take your card out of your site and skim it in the back room. The other method of grabbing your card information is less technical. The employee inside the store has a device which they use to view card transactions out at the pump. The simple thing to do is for the employee to just write your card number and personal info down when it displays on the device. I did contact San Leandro police department to check into it. Straight up CON! STAY AWAY YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. Took my car for a smog here. Mechanic told me, my car failed smog. I ask him why ? He told me it need timing adjustment . He told me come back in an hour and will pass. I was like, OK. Just want to get it over with. I ended up paying triple of the original price he quoted in the beginning . Few days later I took the car to trusted mechanic who did the tune up for my car and told him about it. He told me," I got ripped off by them".
