With my…read morecane, I was able to make my way through the gravel and the dirt trails easily and take in the beautiful wildflowers of spring. In April, the prairie area is filled with deep blue camas, and a few white ones sprinkled in. In mass, they paint the prairie blue. Up close, you can see the intricate detail, petals in shades of blue and even purple, with bright yellow eyes in each flower. They are one of my faves! As you leave the sunny prairie, you are instantly in a shady patch of forest and feel far away from the city, even though you are not. Birds chirping is nature's music as you wander the various loops and check out wildflowers nestled under the trees. I spotted Star of Bethlehem, Wild Geranium, Saskatoon, False Solomon's Seal, Field Sorrel, Prairie Mallow, Woodland Violet, and some common daisy. There are benches along the way if you need a rest or just want to stop and breath in the luxury of being in this little magical place. Along the north side, there are views of the Williamette River. In addition to the trails which are off to the right, there is a playground with a basketball court, swings, slides and play gym, all of which were in use this weekday. There is also a decent bathroom, which is very much appreciated. This park is at the end of a neighborhood where the streets are narrow. As you navigate up through the hills, be aware that children are playing. Before the park there is a dirt area for cars and if you go just a little further, a small paved parking area for about 8 cars with one designated handicap spot. This is a fabulous neighborhood park that welcomes visitors like me. April is the perfect time to visit if you want to see the beautiful fields of camas.

Some sections are historic, others examples of modern luxury (gated communities and all), but there are many neighborhoods filled with modest homes. Sunset Park is nestled in that part of town. And while newer parks like Tanner Creek have installed the latest equipment and amenities and have manicured lawns, Sunset Park is just your average community park in a natural setting. This 5-acre park is filled with old growth trees so there is plenty of shade and grassy areas to bring your dog for a game of catch. The play structure is small, partially shaded, and geared toward children six and under. They've also kept some of the old fashioned slides and swings which for some reason always make me a little nervous. There is a small water feature with jets that spray water up in an arch, but isn't terribly exciting for children. There is one tennis court, but it is alongside two basketball hoops, so I'm sure there is plenty of "oops, sorry" when both are in use. All the basics are covered, but no bells or whistles.

I take suggestions from my dog park friends and got tables put in and a mud puddle that needed taken care of and got that taken care of and grass on tube and new sign and water and pools in summer. So I advocate for the dog park to make it a great place for dogs, and people been going to Hazelia dog park for a long time. My dog Lola has a great time playing fetch with her ball. I've picked up poo bags people left threw them away and pick up all the balls and put them back in bucket and fill water bowls for the dogs. Winter now I bring a pool for my dog Lola because she runs and gets hot with all her hair but I rinse out pool and take pool home with me everytime I leave the park since I purchased the pools from ace hardware. The only things that bug me about this park are the H.S students parking in round about by small dog park and they are fully capable able bodied students to walk to other parking lot but I have walking challenges yes there's handi cap but its a distance to walk. Why have a high school where students can't park there. The balls end up in pine tree and I have to fight with tree. I lost one of my balls in the pine tree it eats balls. Plus when the balls go over fence and then can't get them I physically cannot get over fence. People leaving poo bags on ground or on fence or on the trash can instead of throwing them away.

When we moved five years ago to Wilsonville, one of the highlights of this town are its open spaces and how family-friendly it is. This is just one of many parks in town. It's expansive too! It is located right across the street from the library and they offer so much-- water play (Murase Plaza), structured play, event spaces, nature play, tennis courts, soccer and baseball field, skate park, nature trails, disc golf, and fishing/boat dock. It is also stunning during the fall season with the trees in orange, red, and yellow. Parks and Rec are always maintaining this place. The latest addition to the park is the natural playground, and that is where we took our toddler recently. She LOVED it. She made some friends pretending to fish in the canoe and hang out in the teepees. The sand pit is a big hit too. Whether you're a family visiting or a local, I highly recommend checking this place out.
