We went on a sunny day and it wasn't over crowded. -1 star for personal reasons: my daughter is young (19 mo) and was able to swing on the baby seat swing, however, she was not confident to try the older play structure. The structure seems more appropriate for 2.5 and older. It has a pretty cool rock climber for older kids. My experience makes me wonder if there are parks in Portland that are more inclusive for all children and their abilities? I hope that Portland Parks and Recreation would be willing to rethink how they can be more inclusive when designing a park. I will be the first to admit I know nothing about building a park, but If I did I would want everyone to feel included.

Slides, step rocks, climbing structures, picnic tables in the open and shade, lots of benches, even water bowls for dogs - clearly a lot of thought went into the design and build of Spring Garden Park. It's close to Multnomah Village which is how I discovered it after visiting the food truck area and wanting someplace serene to enjoy my meal. Park right on SW Spring, just be mindful of not blocking the neighbors driveways as it's in a residential area. Close to SW Barbur.

Definitely coming back!…read more The park is split into two areas for tots and older kids - There are two baby swings, a double slide, 4 ways to climb to the slide, a tunnel and a steering wheel for the tots. There is a bigger slide 4 ways to climb to it including a climbing bridge instead of a waking bridge, monkey bars, and a sliding raid and one platform swing. The park is covered in bark for the playgrounds but surrounded by grass, shaded by trees and well maintained. There is poison oak in the trees at the edge of the grass area so I wouldn't wonder beyond the grass unless on a path. There are restrooms across the parking area from the park and plenty of parking - for a Wednesday anyway. Just a sliver of a bigger recreation area and a fantastic pit stop for littles. Not too far from I-5 if needed and well hidden so not a ton of traffic around. Although close to roads (so watch littles close) it is fenced on the street side and open on the parking side. There are waking trails, 4 picnic tables, open grass area, 3 benches available and a dual level fountain.

The park is…read moreimmaculate except for (the unavoidable) goose poop and, during most of the year, you'll often see park personnel maintaining the grounds consistently. We usually walk the little wooded/paved trail, then through the Willamette River path. We, typically, run into other dog owners and dog-friendly people who enjoy petting our very friendly doodle. With few exceptions, everyone adheres to the, clearly posted, on-leash rule. There are 2 doggy clean-up bag dispensers and dog-owners are extremely mindful about keeping the park super clean. The overall vibe is really pleasant and people of all ages enjoy this place - including lots of teens. If you, or someone you know, has mobility issues, there are wooden benches located on most of the walking paths. On any given day, you'll see people pausing to rest a bit or just enjoying a visit with friends. There is a sheltered structure located in the middle of the park. The surrounding tables and chairs are great for picnics and you can reserve the entire area for private parties. The rest rooms are clean for a public park which I truly appreciate.

If you want to get closer to the water, there are boat ramps you can walk down and a pier lookout. As you meander, you will come across several sculptures and art stones that tell the history of the river. And a Veterans Memorial and a water feature for the kids to play in on hot days. Always lots of people walking their dogs. There is a lovely picnic area with several tables and chairs under a vine covered pergola. For coverage from the rain or sun, there is a large A-frame structure next to it that also has lots of tables, chairs and even a fireplace. You can reserve this area for gatherings through Lake Oswego. We came her to celebrate Mother's Day and a friends birthday, needing to be outside since the two guests of honor recently had Covid. Even though they were three weeks out, we didn't want to take chances so held our celebration here. There was plenty of space for us to be together yet separate. Lots of garbage cans everywhere making it easy to clean up afterwards. In the summer Foothills Park is part of the Concerts in the Park series which I absolutely love! The concerts attract a lot of people so we always come early to get a parking spot and claim our space on the lawn. Lots of families picnicking and kids playing. It's a wonderful way to spend a summer evening! The concerts were cancelled in 2020 & 2021 but we are looking forward to having them resume in 2020. Located just a few blocks from downtown Lake Oswego, Foothills Park is just lovely.

There is a large field that was mostly flat when I traversed it. Bathrooms were available and were about as good as you could expect from public restrooms. The major drawback of this place is that most of the property is sloped. Definitely doesn't make for an easy way to explore, but it's not bad if you're in good shape and don't mind going up and down sloped areas. Not the best park in this area, but also not the worst. I prefer Roy Rogers for me and my family, which is less than five minutes north, but that's just me.

There are two separate, but adjacent, play structures. One for toddlers and another larger area with more challenging and engaging structures for older children. And it was nice to have a restroom right by the toddler area. So many local parks that are in the heart of neighborhoods don't have facilities. A paved path that weaves throughout the space that would be great for bikes or skateboards. It does have some mild hills, so it can be a challenge or a breeze depending on your direction. And probably my favorite part, a large grassy field that is ideal for soccer, touch football or frisbee. Kudos to the park designers on this one. The only downside I observed is minimal parking.

West Lake Park is the answer. The playground is covered, with equipment for both toddlers and big kids. There is a bathroom about thirty feet from the play structure, hallelujah! The picnic area is also amazing. There are 4 covered tables with a buffet counter lining a wall, and along this counter there are 3 outlets, meaning you can set up your crock pot, and plug it in. There is additional table or two near the covered 4, if you're looking to get a large group together and it isn't raining. There is also a huge, well kept, athletic field joined with the play ground, that is open for running on. There are water fountains too. This is the best laid out park I've ever been to. If you're looking to host a party, this is where you should do it!

I'm so glad I did! What struck me first and most about this park was how clean and well maintained it is. They have a delightful sand box with water feature that, I'm sure, will keep the kids busy all day. They also have a very unique and creative rope contraption to climb on (I don't know what the cool kids call it). And there's a skate park, basketball court, baseball diamond, and tennis court to keep everyone happy. We were there on Friday night and the tennis court was filled with folks playing Pickle Ball. So cool to see so many people outside and active on a beautiful summer evening. Finally, there's a wide, well maintained walking path along the river that is delightful. It's so awesome to find a public place like this. We all need more of this!
