Had to flag down another server just to get one single coffee refill near the end of the meal. The penny pinching at this location is absolutely frightening and I will never be returning. Sign out front advertising cocktails, walk in to find out they're unlicensed. Server had no idea about any of their other hot beverages aside from the regular coffee. Wait staff seem like friendly enough people but have no clue what they're doing as far as running a restaurant is concerned. Lots of standing around being useless while customers sit and wonder wtf is going on. Food looks and tastes like it was microwaved. Expect dirty looks from kitchen staff if they get a sense you don't like your food even though it's just frozen crap sent to them to be reheated. Friendly staff, we were seated quickly and served quickly as well. The waitress came by multiple times to ask about our meal and if I needed my coffee refilled. Cora's has always been my favourite place for brunch! They have such a great variety of choices (both sweet & savoury) & it's always so hard for me to choose what I want to eat. Their portions are pretty big too - I definately don't eat lunch after having brunch at coras. I ordered Jo Construction & it was delicious! Their service is great & when I came there was a huge line up of people waiting to eat! I'm thankful that my friends had already got me a table! I always enjoy my visits to Cora's for the basic breakfast specials. This visit I tried the lunch menu and I give them 5** on the vegetable skillet. Nice assortment of vegetable, cooked hot and delicious. Those potato's are heavenly. The salad was great with the tomato basil dressing. Head to Cora's if you want a consistently tasty breakfast, with lots of options, at albeit, a slightly inflated price. I personally head to Cora's when I wake up craving their spinach and cheddar omelet. This comes with a side of hash browns, toast and fruit! You literally won't be hungry for the rest of the day at Cora's so I guess that makes it more of an economical option. Just try to stop yourself before you reach the bloated phase. That's the only problem with Cora's; there's so much of everything! This particular location is always packed so head in after lunch or very early. Be prepared to wait in line. My friend and I decided to head to Cora's with a gift card from Xmas. I am not a huge fan of all the fruit - I can never finish it and I don't like to waste food. So I had low expectations. As we sat down this bright, cheery presence could be felt at the table before we even looked up. My friend and I both felt her interest in making our experience great. She commented, "you are here for pancakes and hot coffee how could that ever be a bad start to a beautiful sunny day!" Our mood was elevated. She even picked up on my fruit issue and assured me that they had take away boxes so I could share it or make it into a smoothie. Wow we said to each other and I said I am asking her for her manager's contact info to send a note about our exceptional service. As it happened, she and her husband own the franchise and so we thought, she must be amazing to work for as an owner. She provided us with a parting story. She described a young employee being nervous and procrastinating about asking for an extended time off work to travel around Europe. She looked at her employee and said "please don't make eggs your reason for not experiencing Europe". They are the only ones downtown who do what they do. That gives them an extra star. Sure, their food is about average, but their food selection for breakfast and brunch beats anything else I have found downtown. Their staff are pleasant although there seems to be a mix between experienced and rookie at this restaurant. So it makes for a lack of consistency with service quality. But the food is a lot of fun! You can have a healthy or not so healthy meal and still enjoy yourself! I don't know about you, but whenever I want to eat unhealthy food but decide to eat healthy, I never find healthy food that would taste as good as the unhealthy food I've wanted. Still following me? But at Cora's, I don't have that problem. Even their healthy food choices are really good. And I don't miss eating bad food once the plate of fun, good tasting, healthy food is placed in front of me. I suggest trying any and all of the crepes they have! But their standard American style breakfast is really good and everything you'd expect. Sausage, bacon, eggs and thick toast. I'm a sucker for the traditional, and they have it there. The restaurant in general hasn't lost its food quality. The service is still good but losing its consistency. Cora's is in a great location downtown and they also have free Wi-Fi! So I am a fan, but a cautious one, watching closely and hoping that there isn't a decline in the future. I was at the Dresden Row location last weekend. There's always a bit of a wait however, less so if you're brunching alone. There are gluten free options such as the buck wheat crepes and gluten free toast is offered with the egg dishes. The hot chocolate is excellent here, and the waitstaff are patient when it comes to my fussiness. I really like coming here, it's cheerful and bright; well designed. The food tastes pretty good, a little better than average and the waitstaff are friendly and do the best they can when the place is swamped. read more

First off we expected to wait a bit to get food, it was Saturday at 11am, prime brunch time. What we didn't expect was to wait 20 mins for a waitress to come to our table. Then of course it took another 45 minutes to get fed. The waitress was nice enough, the food was okay as always.. I guess for me, I never find Cora's a memorable experience and only go when I'm desperate for brunch. Also as we were about to get up we saw a mouse run across the floor and it completely through the whole experience off... not the best time that is for sure. read more

Worst place for breakfast/lunch in the city. First of all their menu is ridiculous. When you see such a wide selection of items you know there's going to be issues. Also their prices are beyond ridiculous. I don't care how "cute" the passion fruit and strawberries appear on the side of my eggs, that does not warrant $18. We went around noon and I wasn't feeling the $18 breakfasts, so I went with soup and sandwich. The "soup de jour" was beef barley (gross), and I don't eat mammals (long story) so I asked for an alternative. No other soup available. So I say, "Fine, how about a salad?". Sorry, can't do it. So as a challenge I say, ok, I'll just take the chicken sandwich. After 40 minutes I receive a half-empty plate with my lonely sandwich. I discreetly (I was with a group) asked the manager why I could not have a side salad. He then asked why I didn't want the soup? "I don't eat meat." He stuns me with: "WELL, YOU ARE EATING THE CHICKEN." I am not one to debate my beliefs. I don't harp on about how eating mammals is wrong. I have many friends who are unaware of my eating preferences. I will prepare and marinate fine steaks for friends in the summer. HOWEVER, I do not feel it is appropriate for a Cora's manager to CHALLENGE MY BELIEF SYSTEM over a gd side salad. I'll never go to Cora's again. Whenever I've eaten there it's usually with friends or family. I've never chosen to attend when given the option between the multitude of better breakfast places in Halifax. If you are going out for breakfast expressly for the purpose of eating crepes, then choose Cora's. Anytime i've ordered anything other than crepes, pancakes, or waffles, I've been disappointed with my meal. I had the eggs Benedict a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty bad. The eggs were somehow burned around the edges yet runny in the middle despite an over-hard request. The hollandaise sauce was terribly bland and the english muffin was not toasted. My home fries were tasty, but cold and not cooked in the middle. One thing that bothers me about Cora's is the lack of change. The menu has essentially remained the same for the last ten years and counting. I do enjoy crepes and have always liked the various styles of crepes they offer. Especially the Nutella variation. Whatever you order you will be given a portion capable of feeding an entire family. They go a little overboard on the fruit and I've never seen anyone I'm with ever clear their plate. I feel a little bad about the amount of fruit wastage. But I do enjoy the fancy fruit slicing and arrangements. Cora's is a place I'll go if the group has chosen to eat there. I'd like for it to be so much more. Breakfast is an easy meal to do right, and they've had so long to improve, I'm not sure why they haven't. Just because your fruit is cut sweetly and is as colorful as the rainbow, doesn't excuse a boring crape concealed below. Either knock up the quality of the main course, or else drop those digits. Cora's is conveniently situated right off Spring Garden Road, near the Lord Nelson hotel and loads of shops. A great location for a breakfast spot. But unlike real estate, there's more to breakfast than "location, location, location". The "special" consisted of a little dollop of scrambled eggs, over-nuked potatoes, a rubbery little round of ham, bacon that was vaguely reminiscent of trans-Atlantic airplane food, and a suspicious "crêpe" that was so stretchy it was more like a piece of Ethiopian injera bread. On top of that was a badly charred greasy little sausage looking up at me. I actually felt sad for that little thing, it looked tortured and very unhappy. At $12 plus extra for coffee, I wasn't impressed. The bread products might fare better. The brioche my companion ordered wasn't bad. But skip the full Canadian breakfast here - it's more or less a super-size airplane breakfast. read more

Mike and I headed to Cora's for a quick bite before a movie recently. I honestly have never had a good breakfast here, but it was the most convenient option at the time so we gave it a go. First problem: we entered via the Dresden Row entrance. Apparently the host station is at another entrance, as we were confronted with a sign telling us (I think) to go around the corner. The arrow looked like curly underlining so we weren't too sure. Once we were spotted a server cleaned off a table for us. The restaurant was mostly empty, with everyone seated in one section with a street view. Fine. The only problem? None of the empty tables had been cleaned by staff. There were plenty of staff, they just didn't seem interested in doing their job that day. This was their routine while we were there: Customers come to be seated. Customers can't be seated; no clean tables. Server rushes to clean table. One couple didn't like the booth they were seated in; they wanted an actual table. Once again the server had to quickly clean a table before they could move. It was a very bizarre spectacle, and incredibly inefficient. Foodwise, Mike ordered the beef barley soup and pulled pork sandwich, which he said were good. I ordered French toast with a mountain of fruit. I really enjoyed the fruit and the toast wasn't bad either. Unfortunately we didn't notice not one, not two, but THREE short brown hairs on Mike's plate until he had finished eating. (And no, they weren't Mike's.) We debated bringing it to our server's attention, but since we were pressed for time we chose to simply pay our bill and get the heck out of there, never to return. read more

Me and a couple of friends decided to go here today for brunch. As it was my first time here, I was surprised by the menu prices. But by the amount and variety of fruit I received with my order I understood the price. After I looked at the menu for loner than I should have I ended up ordering the "Peggy's Poached", which was a plate of toasted bread, a poached egg, numerous sliced fruits, and a bowl of cottage cheese. I enjoyed the fruit and was really pleased with the egg and toast. The cottage cheese on the other hand was a little disappointing. I found it too salty and coming from someone who eats reduced sodium cottage cheese I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. Cora's is consistently inconsistent. I know that sounds strange, but I've walked out of this place thinking I would never go back again and I've walked out feeling full and content, like today. The first thing you have to know about Cora's is that it's over priced. Nothing on the menu is worth the amount of money you're going to put down, especially when you don't know if it's going to be great or meh. The second thing you need to know is that it is very crowded on the weekends. If you're going for brunch on Saturday or Sunday, better make it breakfast if you want a seat. I wish Cora's would swing one way or another. Meaning, I wish they would either be consistently good or consistently bad because it does make it difficult to give a solid recommendation. I guess the best thing to say is be cautious - if you show up and it's bad don't write it off, but if it's really good, don't assume it's always going to be that way. read more

I've heard a lot of people that dislike Cora's, but it is hands down my favourite place to get breakfast. The menu can be a bit on the expensive side, but they balance it out by the portions being some of the largest I've seen at a restaurant for breakfast. The fruit can often be a bit much, but on some dishes makes for a nice accent. My number 1 Criteria for reviewing a breakfast place is Eggs. If they can't make the eggs to order then they fail as a breakfast place. For a place like Cora's that specializes in Breakfast the eggs should be perfect. I have been here twice I ordered over easy eggs but received eggs that were somewhere between over medium and over hard. If you mess up the eggs you should have the decency to gash them and make new ones for the customer. The fruits looked nice but half of the fruits were not even edible. The Kiwi's were hard as a rock and EXTREMELY sour. They were not even close to being ripe enough to eat. The banana as well was not ripe and it tasted very green. I have been to Coras for years and unfortunately the service has only gotten worse. Today I went to this location for my second time and for my second time I was not impressed. The smoothies have gotten worse and the price higher. I order the same dish every time the "sunshine panini crepe" with no meat, while I understand that the ham is a main ingredient in the dish I don't understand how taking that out can reduce the quality of the meal. My side of fruit came with bananas, human hair, and old plums. I showed the picture of my meal to my server( the manager) and she told me the reason my dish looked flat was because of the "way it was rolled" Needless to say this was my last visit to this location. read more

I can't even begin to express my love for Cora's. It's my go-to for brunch, my go-to restaurant for catching up with friends, my go-to for filling food (I once ate Cora's for early brunch, then worked a 1-9 shift without needing to eat on my supper break. THAT'S how filling it is). I try to choose something different each time I go to Cora's and I've yet to be disappointed. I've tried various crepes, omelettes, crepe omelettes with their sides of toast, fruits, etc. I always get a dish of hollandaise sauce because (hello, it's hollandaise sauce, need I say more?) its the best sauce in Halifax. The decor is adorable, with painted stills of fruits and other breakfast foods. There are a combination of booths and tables, with the booths having high-backed seating for privacy. It's quite loud no matter what time you go to Cora's. There's usually always a line-up on weekends, so you'll probably have to give your name to the server behind the cash and then walk around Spring Garden Road for about 20 minutes. You won't be disappointed if you give Cora's a try. One bite of anything on the menu (seriously, try to find something inedible) and you'll be hooked. read more

I've been waiting to try out this place for a while. My wife and I are big breakfast fans and are constantly on the lookout for the next plate of breakfast-y goodness. I went on a Wednesday morning so it was practically empty when I got there (double plus bonus score). I order a veggie omelet (though it looked more like a frittata than your standard omelet). It was good. The service was exceptional but not overbearing which can happen when you're one of the few patrons at the moment. The menu had a lot of pancake / waffle / crepe options but not many "meat and eggs" option which left me a little disappointed (I don't eat grain based flours) and since I don't eat dairy I needed to adjust the omelet to be without cheese but otherwise I was pleased with my new found breakfast place.
