Based on the favorable reviews, my friend and I decided to have lunch here after working out. I ate here a few years ago, but never made it back. When we walked in, we were the only two in the place, but clearly they do a lot of to-go orders, because the two workers we saw were busy. I ordered the Lebanese plate which consisted of salad, two falafels, a dolma, hummus, baba ghanoush, and your choice of pita bread or pita chips. I love getting combo plates and trying a variety of the food a restaurant has to offer. We wanted fountain drinks, but their machine was out of order, so we went with canned sodas. The food took a while to come out. Not just ours, but pretty much anybody who came in after us waited quite some time for their food too. My platter when it came looked delicious. I liked the salad and hummus, but honestly, the falafel was terrible. They were so dense and hard I could barely choke them down. I don't know if they make them in advance and then just reheat them, but I would never have them here again. I also wish I had chosen the pita bread, not pita chips, because they turned out to be these tiny crunchy pieces that were too little to put any spreads on. The restaurant was relatively clean, but very warm. If I return, I think I'll try an empanada or arepas, because maybe that's where they shine.

ARE Pitas is a unique fusion of Venezuelan and Lebanese cuisine. The small resturant is located in a strip mall area offers casual seating and take out. The Venezuelan Arepa was packed full with shredded chicken, plantains and black beans. The Fish Empanada was surprisingly flavorful and flaky. The cashier who took our order was very pleasant and gracious to answer my questions about various menu items. I will definitely make a return visit the next time I'm in Tampa.

You know, these ratings have sooo many daily variables and A LOT of them are based on the experience you receive from from the first employee you meet. My experience here, while ordering, eating and being in the environment was excellent!! I sometimes play a game when I go out to eat. I will choose the most expensive thing on the menu and then I will choose one of the least expensive menu items and ask the person taking my order, which they would choose, as I "cannot make up my mind"between these two options. In my experience here, I did the same thing. I told the person taking my order I could not decide between a Lebanese Pita, which contains Tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions, cucumber for $12.40, or a falafel pita for $9.99. The woman taking my order, told me hands-down, to get the falafel because it will be the best falafel I have had in this town. Luckily because it was not very busy, she told me if I did not mind waiting, that she was going to make it fresh for me. so I agreed and ordered the falafel combo with a soda and their french fries. My order was finished cooking in the exact timeframe I was told it would take, which was 10 minutes. When she was putting together my falafel pita, she asked me what I would like on it, and I started looking at the options and telling her what I wanted. She then looked up at me and said how about if I put it all together for you, and it will still be the best falafel you have had in a long time. I went with her suggestion and let her completely dress my falafel with her choice of ingredients, and I have to tell you it was a "Mic drop". OMG, it was absolutely delicious. The falafel were very crispy on the outside and soft and extremely flavorful on the inside. This was definitely the best falafel I have had in a long time. In addition, the french fries were hot and seasoned perfectly. I have to give this experience, five full stars as the food was delicious, the restaurant was clean, the noise level was perfect, and most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious. There is no question that I will be back to try more items on the menu, but will always have to have a side of falafel when I come here. In addition to the five stars, I have to say that they did a job well done! I encourage anybody reading my review. If you're in the mood for some Venezuela and food or falafel, definitely stop by here!

The service was nice the food authentic and the food seasoned just like they do it in Panama Ah, this place is a gem. Do not pass it by. My meal kept me satisfied until 4pm and I ate at 11am. Well worth the value and the lady who served me reminded me of a Latina Tia.

I really wanted to like this place. I went 4-5 times in a month. My order was always called ahead and never ready when I arrived. I order something and get something else instead thank God I'm not Allergic cause it screams lawsuits.Empanadas are over cooked. We were intrigued by a dual-National cuisine restaurant. Are Pita offers both Venezuelan & Lebanese food. Today we opted for the Venezuelan side of the menu. Empanadas & arepas filled the table. The empanada that stole the show was called papabellon. It was top-of-the-chart tasty. Inside were shredded beef, cheese, black beans, & plantains. It so worked, lol. Plus the garlicky, tartar dipping sauce added to the full orchestra of flavors. I also had a guava & cheese empanada. That's always a winning combination. My wife loved her arepas & empanadas & the side of plantains was cooked to perfection...sweet, tender, caramelized goodness. I must also mention the workers were very kind, polite, & personable. Next time I'll order off the Lebanese side so my life is complete.

Serving Venezuelan and Lebanese food, Are Pitas has a large variety of options. They have a counter serve set up but you can sit at a table and eat there, they have a large colorful dining room. Or take the food to go. They have arepas, pitas, empanadas, falafel, gyro, I had the gyro on pita with fried plantains. Very tasty but i haven't met a plantain I didn't like. They were pretty busy during lunch time and originally just had one person working the counter but eventually someone else came to assist. Friendly staff. Parking in a lot in front of the restaurant. Great combination and offerings. Located right at University mall in Tampa.

Great little place! The food is delicious and the portions are decent. We had the Venezuelan arepa, Lebanese pita, pulled chicken arepa and cheese cachapa. The pita and the arepas were amazing!!! Fresh ingredients and very filling. I wasn't that impressed with the cachapa, but maybe I'm just not used to that kind of food. Service was on point, prices are very reasonable. I'd definitely go back for the arepas/pitas! read more

Stopped by randomly when the place across the street was closed "for a gas leak." Was totally surprised by how good is is. The gyro is great, as is the hummus. The falafel was off the chain. read more

5 stars is so underrated for this restaurant! I'm a weekly customer and have been coming here for about two years, every time I eat here it's 10/10! The staff is so kind and genuine! The food here is so good because it's made with authentic ingredients and love! The establishment is always clean and well kept. Really good gyro with lots options to fill up the pita. They heat press it which closes up the pita, so all the ingredients stay in. Combo with soda, pita + hummus, and gyro was $10 - no refills on drinks. People starting filling up this spot around 12:15 pm. Although I enjoyed the gryo, the meat was alil too dry for me but the flavor was here. Trying the beef shawarma next time. read more

If you hungry, this is not the place for you. They serve very little (the kids plate was bigger than the one I ate). Meat has no flavor, the serve you in a small disposable plate. Very disappointing. I can get more food for $8.55. I came hungry and left hungry read more

After being a student at USF, the one thing I wish I didn't wait on was to try Are Pitas. While the Venezuelan food reminded me of home in Miami, the Lebanese food hit the spot while craving a gyro. Everything was fresh and hot coming out. There are endless possibilities on this menu and I cannot wait to try more. I will most definitely be back again and will bring my friends. read more

We were working in the area and my workmate thought it was the pita pit, but he was wrong. This place was way better. I tried the Lebanese pita with pulled chicken, added some jalapeños, lettuce, and their secret sauce and wow was it yummy! It looked more like a giant burrito, and was definitely quite filling for a lunch. Their mango juice was freshly squeezed and tasted great, but they ran out after I got my first glass, must be a hot seller. :) read more

Some of the best food in the USF area for the money since their change in management. Everything tastes super fresh! Seriously, falafel is the best I've had. It's not frozen and they prepare it to order. The baba gunish and the hummus are also top notch. The staff is incredible and let me sample their new dishes every time I come in. I'm always expanding my dining options. Truly a little gem tucked away in the back of the plaza. read more

Hidden gem!!! This is definitely one of my favorite spots in Tampa. Food is consistently fresh and packed with flavor! I've caught myself having lunch here three days in a row. My go to is the Venezuelan pita with chicken shawarma. They have different fresh soups every day and they are always amazing. Staff is super friendly and the restaurant is always spotless. Found this place by fluke, on yelp looking for a restaurant that wasn't typical fast food and saw this. The food was excellent!!!! The Lebanese food felt like I was at my Grams or Mom's. I had the Shawarma, I'll admit better than some places in NY even. My husband had the Venezuelan food and, for a picky eater, he loves it!!!! Wish they were closer to Sarasota, however worth a trip next time just for that. read more

Tried this place once before since I work at the hospital nearby and although the arepa was good, the pulled beef lacked flavor. I went again today during lunch break to order their pulled chicken as a second chance. When I got to the register, the lady tried charging me for a Venezuelan arepa to which I corrected her that it was pulled chicken. She then rang me up for pulled beef. When I again corrected her, she told me she put pulled beef in my arepa and not chicken. What? Not sure why there was so much confusion. She didn't offer to correct the order until I had already paid for the more expensive pulled beef option then sheepishly asked if I wanted chicken - so I opted to keep the beef, plus I was running late to get back to work. The pulled beef unfortunately lacked flavor just like the first time I had tried it (although the rest of the topping are good). Finished my messy sandwich only to find that there were no napkins in my to-go bag. So I wiped my dirty hands on a car towel.. gross. This whole experience was actually quite unpleasant. Maybe at some point I'll give it another try but for now I'd go elsewhere. read more

Heard awesome things about this place. Was excited to try it. Stood inside waiting for over 10 minutes with no one even cracking a smile to acknowledge us. Gave them one more chance and still was ignored so went across the street to Gyro Zone where the owner is FANTASTIC. read more

Established in 2014.

Carmen and Jesus, the owners are from Venezuela. Carmen decided to finally listen to the request of family and friends to open a restaurant due to her extraordinary abilities as a chef and pursue her dream. They created an amazing fusion of Lebanese and Venezuelan flavors in December of 2014 on this unique place where amazing homemade food and the personalized attention of the owners will make you feel at home.

Meet the Business Owner: Carmen P.

Carmen is a Math and Physics teacher from Venezuela. For nearly 30 years she worked as a teacher for highschool and graduate levels. She was also a coach for mathletes that participated in National and Worlwide Mathematic olympics. Although she had a professional training as chef she used to cook every week for friends and family. People loved her food so much that they requested constantly for her to open a Restaurant. When Carmen and Jesus moved to the US in 2014 they knew it was time to follow this advice. Carmen's knowledge in math and physics are combined with her culinary abilities to create great flavors.

The sampler platter was very good, offering a wide variety of options and flavors. The Fatoush was good, but not the best I've had; I was a little disappointed by it. But the headliner, the Mansaf, was probably one of the better ones I've ever had! The lamb was cooked to perfection and the rice was delicious. The portion was good enough to feed 4-5 people, so for the two of us it was a struggle, but we gorged ourselves on the dish. The flavors made it too difficult to stop eating... If you have a craving for Middle Eastern food, or even curiosity about trying it for the first time, I would highly recommend going to the Olive Tree!

This was my favorite food item. Fourth - Queen Stella Margherita pizza. Surprisingly, this was my least favorite item. We got it thin-crust, and while it looked good, it was served completely cold, and the flavor can only be described as cardboard-like. I would definitely try another pizza here, but not this one. My friends also split an order of meatballs, which they loved. While they had wine for dessert, I had a piece of limoncello cake for dessert. It was fantastically lemony and moist, which I loved. Their parking lot is valet only, but fortunately you only have to pay the $6 fee Fri-Sun, so we just had to tip the very friendly valet.

The food at this place is absolutely amazing! I ordered the Venezuelan pita and the pulled beef empanada, and both were an explosion of flavor! I love how this place sells authentic food with quality ingredients at a reasonable price. There is no place like Are Pitas. Also, the staff is super nice and kind. This is a family-run business and they are always very helpful and concerned about their clients. There have been times where I arrived close to their closing time and they were still super nice and even went a little over their hours for me. 100% recommend! read more
