    Fresh piña coladas
    Stephanie S.

When you arrive early in the morning to Sun Bay, the entrance is desolate. One or two chickens and horses roam freely but everything is quiet. After some morning time at the beach, we headed back to the entrance thinking we would head to another beach. A man came outside of the shop and asked us if we wanted to stay for lunch. He said that the kitchen was just opening but that he could get us something to drink. We wanted mojitos, but he didn't have any mint. Fortunately for our taste buds, he recommended that we order piña coladas. He told us they would be made with fresh coconut and promised we would enjoy them. He walked over to an area with coconuts and a hatchet, and started chopping fresh coconuts. He drained the water into a bowl and brought the rest of the fruit inside the kitchen. A few minutes later, the delectable pineapple and coconut masterpiece hit our lips for the first time and it was flavor town. The best piña coladas my partner and I ever had. While we sipped on our fantastic thirst quenching beverages he told us that the full kitchen was still getting ready, but he could bring us some empanadas. We ordered fish and conch, and downed our first piñas while they were prepared. The empanadas were cooked to perfection, the conch a little bit spicy with a nice kick, the fish juicy and fresh as if it was caught that morning. We ordered another couple empanadas and a second piña colada. Everything tasted even better the second time and we loved every single bite. The cherry on top of this meal was how simple it was to pay for. Our host Carlos, offered us the ability to pay with Venmo, CashApp, or Google Wallet. Carlos gave us tips about where to go for the rest of the day, and seemed to always check in on us at the right time. This meal as he says, "might not be the best way, but it's the right way". TLDR: Best Piña Coladas in Puerto Rico, all of the food is great, go to Sun Bay just to eat here.

    Coco Loco!

If you want a pretty chill way to spend a relaxing afternoon by the beach with some fantastic drinks and food, you found the right spot. It's super crowded and busy - not for anyone in a rush. Order a pina colada or a coco loco, ask the staff what's good, and sit back and enjoy. Lots of food was sold out when we got there, but we had an amazing meal of a vegan burrito and a shrimp plate.

    Burrito & Pina Colada

The Pina Colada was good. Friendly waiter (Chasti). He made our drinks from fresh coconuts and slices of fresh pineapple. Drinks were around $7 each. The empanada was okay and the burrito was good. Pizza was good and will definitively suffice for 2 to 3 people. Took about 15 minutes to get our food. Kitchen was closing and they allow us to order what we wanted. If you need to eat, get there before 3pm. This place is located at the entrance of the beach near the restrooms. The waves are stronger at that locatio. The further East you go the "nicer" the waves are. Therefore if you are on the far East of the beach it will take about 15 to 20 minutes each way to walk to this place.

Best piña you ever did/will have

Come here for the BEST (and best priced at $8 -- CASH ONLY) PINA COLADA you will ever have. I've tried them all over the island and this one is by far the best. It's blended with fresh coconut meat that they chop up right in front of you. Best part -- that rum floater on top. ALSO, you can order one at the cafe and they will hand deliver to you on the beach. YUP. Do it. Food offerings are simple and mostly fried. Their hot sauce is homemade and fermented to perfection for that perfect tang/spice factor. Goes really well with their pastellillos.

Lunch is served. Best piña coladas and chicken empanadas!

This is one of my favorite beach lunch spots on the island. You'll get some of the best (if not THE BEST) empanadas on the island right here! Try the chicken empanadas with the HOT sauce. WARNING: IT'S HOT, but something you'll want again! Enjoy the pina coladas, these are by far the best on the island! Place your order and take a seat outside on one of the few tables and enjoy the scenery. You'll hear the ocean waves in the background and see wild horses walking by. Or take your tasty treats back to the beach! Either way, just order at Sunbay Cafe!

If you like piña coladas....and a delicious lunch, then come here!! We each had the chicken quesadilla and a piña colada. The food portion was generous, and if you like hot sauce, they make one that's super hot but also really flavorful. The piña colada was amazing--they use fresh coconut and pineapple. Don't miss out on this spot.

The whole fish. Fried and awesome

Permanently closed. A woman working nearby told us they've been closed a while due to "issues with their papers".

Great place by the water to grab lunch or dinner!…read more We came for lunch and tried the empanadas. The vegetarian one was our favorite, and had great flavors! The ginger limeade was also very tasty, and we grabbed a bottle of it on our way out to enjoy the rest of the day! They even gave use cups of ice and lids/straws for the road, very helpful. Nice and laid back place, you order at the counter and then they bring out the food. No rush, nice to sit and relax and enjoy the view!

So, I say all this to say - make sure to make a reservation if you'd like to avoid a long wait &/or disappointment with there not being a table available. We were extremely lucky to have gotten a table with a relatively short wait on a busy evening. Likely because it was within the last hour of the restaurant's opening!! Now - on to the best part... the FOOD! The creamy pumpkin soup with an arepa was really delicious!!! Full of flavour, prepared with passion and love and I would definitely go back for more! For our mains, my sister and I decided to both have the seasonal fresh caught fish with Puerto Rican yellow rice - YUMMMM! My only regret is that the fish was not big enough... I would have loved MORE! Overall this was a great dining experience.
