Sat down to eat on a 90 degree summer day with my 6 month pregnant wife brother and his wife. The staff refused to turn on the fans or air conditioning. I canceled my order and left. This restaurant used to be the old "Gelato" shop that also sold "bodybuilding" products. Go figure. Now for my experience. I was not expecting much from this restaurant simply because other businesses have tried this particular "location" without any success and there just aren't very many Colombians in Ozone Park, Queens. But that IS changing. There are lots more latin people in the area. My waitress was a very nice young lady named Michelle. She was very attentive and such a doll. I had the large order of OXTAIL STEW (sancocho de cola) and a mango shake that was Devine. It was probably one of the best Oxtail Stews that I have had in any Colombian restaurant. The seasoning was perfect and I definitely got my moneys worth. The stew came with a side salad and accompanied by the soup with yucca that is, as any Latin person knows, customary with this dish. This restaurant does need to tweak their operation as far as "some" of their systems go. The food is on point. Very delicious. I will definitely go back and try their arepas. read more

While I must admit the arepa and arepa cone that I had were pretty tasty, I was very disappointed in the service. The prices are bit on the high side, but when food is good I don't mind it. The first time my husband and I went the waitress wasn't very attentive. We looked past that and came back a second time with our daughter because we raved about how good it was that she wanted to try it. This time however, after sitting for about 15 minutes, we were not even acknowledged! We were really looking forward to having lunch here again, not to mention it was my birthday but the fact that none of the 3 waitresses even looked our way was so bothersome that we got up and left. I am sorry but to me that was completely unprofessional. They could've at least acknowledged us and said "we'll be right with u or something. If the place had been packed I may have understood but there was one other table with about 4 people and a person ordering to go, who came in AFTER us!. Therefore the fact that we were not acknowledged was completely unacceptable. I am not sure if we will be returning being that their lack of service is a big issue to us. When you enter ANY place of business, you should be greeted and made feel welcomed. I been craving an arepa come but will not being going back, not anytime soon at least. If I can give 0 stars. I would. From the outside the spot looked clean. Nicely lit, welcoming. Etc. once we received our food. (Very over priced ) I couldn't be more disappointed. Everything and I mean everything right down to the sauce tasted old. We ordered a steak( $25) which was cooked so tough and tasted old and salty. We ordered 4 beef empanadas ($2 each ) they were soggy, cold, and tasteless. And flan ($4) which was definitely old- no flavor and tasted as though it's been there for over a week. This is probably my favorite Colombian arepas. The arepas are delicious very cheesy soft freshly made . The shredded beef and chicken toppings great taste . I recommend start with their 3 mini arepas samplers. Amazing!!! I'm giving them 4 star because I haven't had the other items on the menu. I went to this place on a Sunday evening, I've been waiting to try this spot because I live in the neighborhood. Food was good, it was tasty. I enjoyed a chicken arepa cone with agua de panela ( which it was really sweet, not enough lemon) and my boyfriend had a bandeja paisa. But the service of this place was HORRIBLE ! The waitress forgot our appetizer, I asked about it and she lied to my face saying it was coming right out. She brought the appetizer when we were eating our main courses and I had to take the appetizer home. The service was so awful that I had to get up a few times to get drinks, plates, napkins.... from the girl in the counter. I'll suggest you to order to take it out and save yourself a headache. read more

This place doesn't even deserve 1 star let alone any stars! My boyfriend and I decided to get food from here yesterday and it was horrible. First of all as soon as we walk in the ladies working behind the counter pretend to not even notice you coming in and standing there waiting to order....Didn't even greet us or anything. Until one women behind the counter finally took our orders. I ordered the tostones that come in 3 served with steak cheese, guacamole and their "special sauce". My boyfriend ordered the arepa cone that came with chicken guacamole and the special sauce. He specifically asked the woman if he could get grilled chicken instead of shredded chicken and the women said yes. Not only did they take VERY LONG to make our orders, but they got his order wrong and and made his arepa cone with shredded chicken after asking for grilled chicken. I usually check my orders before leaving a place to make sure everything is right, but since we were tired and waited a while we just wanted to get home and eat already. As for my order the steak was disgusting and chewy. It was nothing but fat and it barely had meat so I didn't bother to finish my food. Also as I was biting into my food there was a piece of avocado peel in it SMH! My boyfriend's shredded chicken was tasteless and disgusting as well and as he was eating a piece he noticed there was a sticker in his food. After noticing that we threw everything out. After waiting 10 minutes I had to get up to snatch utensils off another table while the food was already served. I ordered the yellow rice and beans and the Colombian platter. As an appetizer, I ordered an arepa that was served cold or at room temperature. I asked the server to have it warmed up but she seemed baffled as if I asked for something out of the extraordinary. The rice seemed a day old due to its dry and hard grain consistency. The beans, the small arepas, the chicken, the steaks, the sausage, the tostones, and little potatoes were delicious. But the chicharrón and yuca fries left me disappointed. I believe that smaller servings, smaller menu options-fresher meals and better service can perhaps improve the outlook of this establishment. read more

I waited a long time to be helped while there were other employees behind the counter. The coffee was cold as well as the beef and the two chicken empanadas. I asked if the pastel Gloria was arequipe or guava and they told me guava. I bought two because I wanted guava. When we drove away and took a bite we saw that they were arequipe. Got the worst case of food poisoning from eating a bandeja paisa on 8/26/2018. It was literally the worst pain of my life. We let it go didnt bother to ask again, then we paid the girl for the order we did make and she forgot to give us our change. This was our first time there but as we waited for our order the people that came after us where having a full discussion as to how the place needs new management and they would turn the service right around and if it wasnt so good they would give up on the place....maybe there food was good but i mine was just ok i had the chicken arepacone and i dont know what i think it was an arepa in the shape of a cone stuffed with chicken, im curious to try the rest i will make sure to call in my order and take at least a hour before i go pick it up . read more

Congrats to Arepalicious for finally getting it right. This space has had a couple of businesses fail in the last 5 years, so it is nice to see a food establishment survive. I took away one star because service seemed a little slow and unorganized, but the food I had was great. Had the 3 mini arepas, and if you do not know what to get you should start here. They each have a different topping and are great. I did not love the "special sauce" which was on each, and really tastes like thousand island dressing, which I think it is. I also had the beef empanada, which was the best empanada I have ever had. It was crispy, but not fried and obviously baked. The texture of the outside was fantastic. And they did not get lazy with ground beef, but use a slow cooked beef inside with what looked tiny pieces of potato. I will be back for more! read more

My husband saw the name and we decided to just stop by and see what they have. Ended up having a full meal here! We had the platter for 2 and we thought it was outrageously good for $33! The steak was cooked really well, flavorful, juicy and so was the sliced chicken! The arepa in the platter were cheesy but sweet, it was different and a nice surprise. I ended up liking it after the 3rd or 4th bite. All the rest of the platter was delicious esp the fried yucca with the thousand island-like sauce. The pastries I'll give a 3/5, the food a 4-5/5 (parts of the platter were better than others). Beef empanadas were delicious- flavorful pulled beef, not ground! Chicken empanadas were still juicy. Cheese ones were oily though. Overall a great experience for an impromptu lunch. The service was fast, the staff were very friendly and attentive. Also got a lot of sauce for 4 empanadas. Hopefully they are looking into the reviews because I truly had a great experience compared to the ones I have read so far. Will be back if I were in the area! read more

No bueno. I had what they call an arepa with chicken. It was grilled on the outside but raw on the inside. It was just mush. The chicken is just ok and the "sauce" they add is Russian dressing. Most arepas are stuffed with chicken, cheese, beans and plantains. At $8.50 this is not close to worth it. The empanadas are not great. The fillings are flavorless and gamey. The yellow rice and beans are passable at best. The service was good but then again the restaurant wasn't full. I know there isn't much in the way of Latin food in the area but this isn't worth going out of the way for. read more
