The guy who assisted me wasn't very nice. Kind of rude. Bad customer service. I was asking him to do the diagnostics all at once if possible and include in the notes to do the borescope test. He said, they will do the 2 hour diagnostics and will let me know if other scope of tests should be done. Before my car was brought back he kept asking what repair exactly was done asking for the scope of work from the carshop who did it. i told him, it might be in my car or at home. He came back asking me if I'm working on getting the scope of work and he had it checked in my car but they didn't find it. So I contacted the Carshop and asked to send a copy of the repairs they did. I received the email right away and told him I got it. He then said, no need, the diagnosis is to have the engine replaced. Then I saw my car parked on the street. I was waiting for him to inform me. Such a waste of time for the long wait so I asked him. He said it wasn't ready yet. Then I told him, my car is parked right in front. He then said they can do further testing if I want to know why the engine has to be replaced. Ridiculous !!! It didn't make sense! I brought my car to have it diagnosed, not rely on the other Carshop's repair and let me know what's causing the misfires. He said if I want to know the details of the diagnosis, that is having to replace the engine then they will have to charge for another 2 hours to inspect it again. Unbelievable!!!!! I paid for diagnostics only to hear that I have to replace my engine. No paperwork was given to me for the results. read more

The prices are a bit on the higher side, but it's absolutely worth it for the service, care, and peace of mind you get. They worked on my VW Tiguan to address a stalling issue, and ended up replacing the PCV valve, the start button, and the rear main seal. It was a complex issue, and they took the time to get it right. Josh was amazing throughout the whole process, always helpful and clear. Extremely disappointing experience. I came in for an inspection and was given an inflated repair estimate. Parts like control arms were quoted at nearly 3x the price Tesla charges directly. Argonaut also recommended unnecessary repairs, including replacing struts on a 4 y/o vehicle with no signs of wear, based solely on a noise that traced back to the control arms. To make matters worse, my car was damaged while in their care. The interior cloth door pillar was stained with brake dust or dirt, which is now permanently marked. When I asked if they'd address it (after initially saying they'd just make a note of it), they came out with a rag and vinyl cleaner, which would've likely made the stain even worse. I've also spent nearly a week trying to speak with a manager (Jason) to discuss the experience. Despite my outreach and promises from them of a callback, I've heard nothing. I'll be taking my car to the Tesla Service Center, where I'm confident I'll be quoted a fraction of what Argonaut recommended. Attaching my repair quote for reference. I brought our 2017 Leaf in for routine maintenance. The team at Argonaut were friendly, efficient, and professional.

I had a used car brought in by the owner to have a presale inspection at my cost. The inspection was fine. I went to Argonaut and paid for the inspection before the owner arrived to pick up his car. The inspection revealed some issues in the car. I had Argonaut print out a second copy of items that needed to be dealt with to give to the owner. The owner arrived and then I emailed him a copy of the inspection report. That way he is fully aware of the condition of the car just as I am. We both decided to fully look over the report and get back in touch with each other about coming to a sale price. Leaving the waiting room, we spoke a little more. There was an Argonaut employee outside near the sidewalk. What happened next was truly unbelievable. I can't remember if he said would you like my opinion on the car or how he exactly phrased it. He tells me I should buy this car right in front of the seller of the car. Basically downplays what was written in the presale inspection that I PAID FOR. The sellers face now has a big smile. Argonaut, having your employee give his opinion verbally while the seller was there took away leverage that I had in regards to the sale price. I guess your employee is telepathic because he is telling me to buy the car without even knowing the price. Your employee knew that I was paying for a presale inspection and that the owner was coming to pick it up their car. Having your employee give their opinions fine. But why did your employee decide to do this in front of the seller as well. This interaction took place on August 8, 2025. read more

I came here to get an alignment and wheel balancing as a habitual curb-hitter and someone who's not that careful going over potholes. I will say this shop IS more expensive than other shops even in Berkeley that I've been to, but a pretty comprehensive "basic inspection" was included in the service that other shops do not perform or charge $200+ to do. At my age I'm particularly sensitive to being treated like a silly lady and I didn't get even whiff of that here even though I DID bring my car in for a silly and preventable problem. I just had the most pleasant experience with Argonaut. I was assessing a potential purchase - 2019 Kia Soul EV - and am new to EV's. They answered all my questions (which for a newbie to EV's are numerous), inspected the vehicle, went over all the things they inspected with a digital report that included pictures, made recommendations (which was just to change the air filter) and explained the need for only annual servicing. They showed me the pictures of my brake pads so I knew how much I had left, estimated the tread on the tires, to estimate their longevity, pulled up the vehicle report to see how it had been serviced in the past, showed me pictures of the hoses, explained the problem with soy based hoses, and on and on and on. I learned a lot today. And the price was very reasonable : $175. I could not have duplicated their thoroughness on my own and was extremely satisfied with the thoroughness of their assessment. read more

I was about to go on a long trip and thought I only had a small issue with my battery going on and the Christmas tree of other blinking lights on the dash wasn't a problem because they went away each time we recharged the battery. Was calling around to multiple garages last minute for help and Argonauts didn't have an appointment available then but did call me back an hour later to slip me in when another appointment fell through. They are great communicators and helped me realize I needed to make alternate plans because the car issue I thought was small wasn't. Turns out after a deep dive of diagnosing the issue my car had coolant leaking into a cylinder and blew a gasket. Argonauts saved me from ignorantly going ahead with my trip and then coordinated with me AND the power train warranty company to get the car working right. They did a thorough job, sent pictures and notes on everything they found and were easy to work with and trust. Thank you for making what could have been a disaster much less painful! This garage is wonderful. I had taken my Tesla to the Berkeley Tesla shop because the headlights had mysteriously turned off and was given a $4,000 estimate to repair the problem. That didn't seem right and I made an appointment at Argonaut for an inspection and estimate. They took me in promptly at 8:30, diagnosed the problem, gave me the estimate of $799.00 to which I agreed, and I picked up the car at 5:30. They also ran complete diagnostics on the car at no charge and told me some items that may need attention in the near future. I know they are correct as I have 173,000 miles on the car and have never had it serviced prior to Argonaut so it is time. I would trust them with any car, but what a difference between the two garages. read more
