I did a 15k service here for my Subaru Crosstrek (standard oil change, air filter change, inspection, etc). This garage is run by Jason, the same man who runs the Chevron garage up on the Arlington. He was always a very reliable, honest and skilled mechanic and he is continuing the tradition with their bigger shop in Berkeley. I brought my Prius in for some major front end work as well as the annual checkup and they did both exceedingly well for a good deal less than the dealer would charge. I have been taking my Prius in to Jason for several years now and I think he is the main reason it now has over 270,000 miles on it. Our 16 year old daughter mistakenly put diesel in her Toyota CamrySome mechanics said her car wouldn't be fixable, and if it was, the repairs would cost more than the car was worth. Great communicators. Jason and the crew worked on my 2011 Kia. My alternator went out and my car was towed to their shop. Once they removed the alternator, they discovered a missing part that drove the AC belt. (removed and never reinstalled from another Berkeley mechanic OOPS!). They gave me a quote and installed the missing part. They were in communication with me through the entire process. Now my car is back on the road and the AC works again too! This is the first time I have been to Argonaut Garage and I found the service and work to be excellent - better than any other mechanic. They are meticulous and broke down all that was needed in a legible manner. My Lexus had an electrical failure and other things wrong, but they figured everything out quickly, got the parts needed, and fixed it within the schedule they originally stated. I really like these guys. I'd gone to Art's for years for my other cars but when I got a new vehicle that wasn't in Art's wheelhouse, they suggested Jason & Argonaut. I've been delighted so far. 1) communication. Their text messaging and email system is a well-considered application of modern technology. Text messages keep you updated on work progress and allow you to be notified of discoveries and authorize work through the day. 2) great detailed reports with photos - they don't just tell you "brake fluid needs changing" - they take a photo of the fluid check and explain what they are looking for an why they recommend the change 3) general sense of concern for me and my vehicle. These guys like cars and enjoy the work they do. They are here to help. That really comes through in how they talk about cars and the lack of pressure applied to me as an individual. He helped research the part needed, and took time to learn about the install which is not very common, and I was not able to find any other shop willing to take the time to learn how to handle the install.
