I want to give this place 4 stars. I do because they're nearby, the food's actually decent, but it's the service that's holding this place back. (And well... their gyros sauce - yes, other Yelpers have said it's sweet & that's not a good thing imo.) On more than 2 occasions, the drive thru was horribly slow (but there's only 1 or 2 cars ahead of us???), they forgot parts of the order - so terribly in fact that the last time, we thankfully checked our bag before leaving the lot... realizing that yes, they forgot AGAIN... waiting through the drive through all over, & upon the guy seeing us pull up to the window, he was handing us out missing items. Wow. Really? No sorry, just handing off what they forgot. After dealing with poor service at the drive thru, I just now opt to go inside & place my order. I've eaten here before & that's the only reason I return - again, the food's decent but I won't do the drive thru. As for the food? I love their cheese fries. The gyros is great - but sans sauce. I know, I'm a weirdo & can deal with it missing sauce. It's a good portion & good flavor. I also dig the shrimp basket - it's your standard gyros joint fare, but sometimes it really hits the spot. It also comes with a good portion of fries & that's a bonus. So? If you're in a rush, find some place else. If you've got some time, stop in for some decent eats. I witnessed one of the cooks making a salad with his bare hands (no rings or gloves) after reporting it to the cashier/older Hispanic male who claimed to be the manager I was told very rudely they don't have to wear gloves because they wash their hands constantly! Not only did the guy pick up the lettuce with his hands he also wiped his hands on his shirt, took a drink then went right back to making the salad. Not one cook was wearing gloves & they all had their masks pulled under their nose! I let the "manager" know the health dept will be interested in why he thinks they don't have to comply with sanitary food prep especially during this time! read more

I visited this restaurant for the second time and I did not really expect the experience I just had. We i first went in here, everything was really good as in everything is fine from the service, to the staff and to the food. I also liked their food and the overall service mainly reason why I came back and things goes to the opposite of my first visit to the restaurant. The staffs are kind of rude and they just do not care about the customers as long as their doing their job something like that and I ordered a gyro plate because that is the exact meal, I had the last time. I waited really long for a single plate of gyro and I do not know what is taking it long. When it was served to me, the plating looks really bad. I was about to decide not to eat it but I had a bite and it still tastes good but nothing special. Ariston is wonderful. So awesome, in fact, that I was there three times over the last week. The gyros, with their home made tzatziki sauce, are phenomenal. The hot dogs are perfection. The fries are fluffy, crisp and delicious. The mozzarella sticks are top notch. Although the decor is now a little dated, the dining room is spotlessly clean. I've now been to Ariston three times, and have never been disappointed. They have an enormous menu that includes gyros, hot dogs, burgers, Italian beef, tacos, burritos, salads, and probably some other stuff that I can't remember! Everything is reasonably priced, and my wife and I are able to have a nice meal here for only about $15. So far, I've had the hot dogs and the gyros, both of which are top notch. The gyros are especially excellent, with the best tzatziki I've ever had anywhere. The menu boasts that the sauce is "award-winning," and I can definitely see why. It's perfect, with just a hint of sweetness that really brings out the spices in the gyro meat, with a wonderful pita and just too much awesomeness. The atmosphere feels a little dated but this isn't exactly a fine dining restaurant so that can be forgiven. With plenty of seating a huge, consistent menu, there's really nothing else you can ask for. The service is also excellent, as the same guy served me all three times and he was nice, helpful, and even gave me an extra pita bread for no charge when I mistakenly ordered the gyro plate thinking it came with two already. Ariston is definitely in contention for the best gyro I've ever had. Being that gyros are something I get a big craving for from time to time, I'll definitely be back to get one very often. Can't recommend this place strongly enough, especially if you love gyros. read more

I'm back,but not too excited. Why? I was not impressed with Ariston's. I believe that Ariston's means "the BEST" (paraphrasing) and I don't see how. First,they are high! My husband and I went here for a quick bite to eat on a Saturday night. He ordered a Philly steak(I think that it was like $5 or $6 bucks) and I ordered a hot dog with cheese fries($6 !!!).Plus,a drink your are easily spending $10 bucks. They don't offer any combo's(that sucks cause at other restaurants they offer combos to make you spend more and in return you get a little discount) for any of their menu options. The Philly was not all that. The steak was not cut up small enough,it was on the rough side,and it was too greasy. The only plus was that it was fresh. Now,for my meal. I was upset because at Aristons they don't just charge you for cheese to your fries and add it on the fries they make you order an order of cheese fries which was like $3 bucks and don't give you enough(Uggh,I really like me some cheese fries) and my fries were fried soft. Lastly noticed that the workers do everything in the kitchen with out using glove's(eewww)! I guess the statement "to each is own" is true because I have to say, that I don't have the same prerogative as my other fellow yelpers! do,but maybe I'll go back ,if some nice friend of mine wants to treat me. read more

The best gyros in the south suburbs! The Spanakopita is excellent. The Greek salad is always fresh & good dressing. We get it on the side to keep the lettuce fresh until we get home. Best French fries of any fast food places in the area. Whenever we are in the neighborhood we always do the drive through. They are always busy! read more

I ordered 2 gyro sandwiches and extra side of tzatziki sauce. I was highly disappointed with my order. The customer service is decent and is the reason I added an extra star. As far as taste goes the meat and the sauce had a very peculiar sweet taste that threw the taste completely off. I was expecting a traditional tasting gyro. I've honestly never had a gyro that tasted so strange in my life. I'm not sure what they use to make their sauce, but I'm sure it's Mayo or something sweet. Couldn't stomach it. First time here, we had the gyro plate (of course) a gyro pannini and shrimp basket. I need to report that the gyro pannini was, hands down, the greatest sandwich i have ever eaten. This is a fast food joint. Extremely clean with very prompt and friendly service. Huge menu so something for everyone. The gyros and tacos have always been among the best the area has. The portions are modest but the quality is excellent. They are priced high with no promotions, so the only reason to go here is if you are in the area already. I have worked in fast food and understand that this is not a hub of educated individuals. Still, out of the four employees present, three spoke zero English. One barely spoke well enough to answer my question. I also understand minimum is not enough to afford groceries. Tried to order through drive up man on the intercom barely spoke English and couldn't clarify what comes on a chili cheese dog. He keep saying do you want everything when I asked what was that he didn't answer just repeated the same thing . It was my first time there and I ordered the wrong thing. Im just here from Alabama in the city visiting my family. I'm a professional, I'm a social worker, I look at the good in the people. Guess you can say I walk around the world with rose lenses. However, today I ordered the wrong thing and was told by the guy that I was waisting his food, while being yelled at, insulted for making a mistake, and overall humiliated. I first went through the drive thru and asked what was the difference from the polish sausage and the hot dog. The young dude at the window said the polish had a pickle. Well needless to say I meant to order 2 polish instead of 2 hot dogs. I go inside and explain that it was my first visit to the restaurant and that I meant to order 2 polish sausages instead of the 2 hotdogs and that I would pay the difference. In the mist of being insulted he charged me for one polish. I then explain to him again what I started before. The guy completely turned my words around and threw the food I brought back in away. Keep in mind, I remained calm the entire time. He said that he didn't care that I came from out of town left and right mean the same thing wherever you go. After throwing my food away, he begins to take the next person's order, while I'm not sure if he is making my food or not. After standing to the side for 10 minutes, I realized I don't have to spend my money where I'm treated with such disrespect. On a good note, he gave me a refund. In conclusion, I do not understand how this place remains open for over 30 years (according to their T-shirts) given this man's behaviors and blatant disregard and lack of respect for the customers that put food in his mouth and money in his pocket. Ordered a gyro and small fries at the drive thru but when I got to the window a gyro and diet pepsi was giving. Told the server that I ordered a gyro and fries and instead of focusing on getting the order correct the server begins to give me a lecture on listening. After his rant I told him that I still didn't want the Pepsi only the small fries. He refused to exchange the items. I actually had to exit the car and threaten to call the authorities in order to receive a refund. This is absolutely crazy. We ordered a gyro plate with sauce on the side for lunch today...thank goodness we ordered the sauce on the side -- it was horrible! It was no way a tzatziki sauce, it was a sweet ranch type sauce. Yuk! The gyro looked loaded with meat but actually had more chopped tomatoes and onions under the meat (made the sandwich LOOK bigger) and the pita looked browned. Unfortunately the pita was soaked in grease from the gyro meat! Couldn't eat it. This gyro and sauce deserve NO STARS, but giving one star because the salad was fresh lettuce and the salad dressing was great! Simple vinegar and oil salad, but great taste. Also had greek olives (2) and cheese chunks (2). The fries were good, crisp but NO salt! We also had a hard time understanding the drive-thru employee because of his heavy accent. He seemed to get mad because I didn't understand him and he would have to repeat some things. So I figure it was a waste of time and $10 but will never go there for gyros again! read more

Granted, it's been awhile since I have patronized this place but this will be my last visit. Ordered a gyro and cheese fries... Generally any gyro I've EVER ordered from ANYWHERE will slice then grill, the meat before just throwing on the pita-they didn't. Fries were not cooked entirely and the cheese was the nasty orange kind and they had the NERVE to be stingy! Lol Called about the fries and the guy asked me to bring them back. When I did, he examined and touched them insisting they were cooked so in lieu of an argument I requested "crispy" fries (like, who eats soggy half done fries!?) Upon giving me my fries the manager walks up to eyeball me along with the handoff guy as if I'm being personally inventoried. I was like, "don't trip boo, you won't see me no mo" I'm not even about to eat these fries but on G.P. they should have done right the first time.
