I called ahead to ask for my veggies on the side for a gyro plate, and the guy on the phone acted like I was being a huge inconvenience--even though the place was completely empty when I arrived. When my food came, the gyro plate wasnt even HALF full and soggy because the vegetables had just been tossed on top of the meat. I love passing through Munster because it allows me to stop in for maybe the best gyros in all Chicagoland. I've been eating this meal across the USA and Europe so my expectations are high when stopping for this meal. I've been stopping at the location for about 20 years and their offering hasn't changed. We tried Munster Gyros for the first time this week. We both ordered gyros and fries. The sandwiches were very plump with generous portions. Sadly, the gyros were just "ok." The meat was a little bland and the sauce was smooth..no little chunks of cucumber that I expect. There was mozzarella cheese between the pita and the meat on mine. Don't know what that was about. The onions and tomatoes looked and tasted like they had been around for a while. Service was prompt and friendly. While this gyros wasn't the best I've ever had, neither was it the worst. As Munster Gyros is a very well loved establishment in our community, I'll certainly give it another try but I'll probably try something else. read more

Recently, we hired Munster Gyros to cater a birthday party we had for my husband for 80 people. Michael Weichman, owner made sure everything was perfect. We ordered gyros, which came with pita, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and tzadiki sauce. We also ordered large Greek salads. All of the food was delivered ready to serve in perfect serving dishes. It was all beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious!!! All of our friends ate heartedly and most went back for seconds! In spite of the large crowd, we still had a ton of food left. All of the portions were very generous! I highly recommend this outstanding restaurant for any of your catering needs!! They are totally reliable, responsible and their food is guaranteed delicious. Munster Gyro is a MUST whenever I visit home. My husband and I love gyros, and even through all the places we've traveled in the military, Munster Gyro cannot be beat. The meat is hot and fresh off the spot, and they have some of the best tzatziki I've ever had. I have been coming here since the early 90's. To this day, it is the gold standard for gyros. Anywhere in the country I got, I compare them to this place. 09/27/2024. 5:10pm. I'm a long time resident of Munster. My kids grew up here. All of my kids know Munster Gyros and grew up on their menu as well as their friends. The previous owners took pride in their restaurant. Sad to say those days are gone. Went there on a Friday, after work, approximately 5pm. My wife had a taste for gyros so she suggested Munster gyros. The man at the register was quite rude. He was not helpful when asked a question about a menu item. I ordered a gyro plate. I specifically requested fries cooked to order. The man at the register threw my change on the counter. Made me feel if I was a bother. I don't mind the pricey menu if the food is hot and fresh. Well, its NOT. My wife was disappointed when she received the gyro plate. The fries were cold, as if they were sitting there for some time. The gyro meat was cold as well. She had to microwave the pitas and the fries as well. Want hot, fresh gyros served with a smile, go somewhere else. read more

A few things to know. We took a risk going here. The meat on my gyros and the tzatziki sauce was good, however the pita bread was super hard to bite into and apparently my knife didn't want to cut it either. Fries were served to me warm not hot, and they were super dry, just awfull. Also, beware, no greek salad on Sunday. Why?! This longtime favorite is still top notch. Stopped for a late lunch while in town, and was in food heaven. Our downtown Chicago firm catered from Munster Gyros (5/2/24), food was still hot & fresh upon arrival. I tried the Chicken Kabobs, Ribs, and Gryos, all is extremely tasteful and delicious, hands down. Don't get me started on the Tzatziki sauce, I have had my fair share of Tzatziki sauce and this is by far THE BEST I have ever tasted. Ok went to this place 2 years ago and tried to order a gyro cheeseburger and some old mean dude said no I asked can I order a cheeseburger and pay for the gyro meat and he said no I should have stuck with the energy of never going back to this place I saw on TikTok a review that looked good a while ago so against my better judgement I went today and ordered a gyro plate it was almost 18 bucks they gave me 2 pitas and enough gyro meat for 1 and 1/4 gyros the guy at the register was cordial but I did see the old guy working making the food so either they are just not customer friendly and the portions aren't worth the prices or the older guy is a racist I should have just went to highland gyro I could have gotten 2 full gyros fries feta and soup for 16 bucks read more

I had about two days down time on the Indiana side of Chicagoland. Needed something inexpensive but the real deal, and followed the reviews here to Munster Gyros with a colleague of mine. We did not regret it. Walked in and felt a bit intimidated by the vast menu options. Really, I just wanted a Gyro. It was the best gyro in my memory, and won't set you back much. The gyros that I grew up on so of course I'm a little biased. The guys behind the counter are always extremely friendly and super fast. The food is always tasty. My usual order is of course the gyro plate. It comes with meat, pita, tzatziki sauce, feta, and fries. They cut the meat from the vertical spit and crisp it up on the flat top. They also do something amazing to the pitas, they get just enough heat and oil on the flat top to be that combo of pliable an crispy. I know folks who swear by the burgers, chicken, and shrimp. And every time I go I tell myself to try something new, but the fact is I'll be sad if I get anything other than gyros. Maybe I need to try the chicken with a side of gyros! My lady said she tried them so many years again so this is what prompted me to try them. So we ordered the gyro dinner and chili dog. So to start off I forgot to take photos of our meal as we were on the go down state when eating. Maybe next time I'll try to take photos. So my gyro looked good as it has everything in it from tzatziki sauce, 2 tomato slices, and a fair share of gyro meat. The chili dog had flavor as well, but sadly they put more onions than chili on the dog. The fries well tasted like fries, little salty no issue there. So mainly gave 4 stars based on the chili dog hardly having chili on it period. We will give it a try again when back in town, hoping today was just a fluke in portion size. read more

I ate here in high school and college. It was great back then. I stopped by for dinner on Monday and gyros tasted the same. The fries were a bit crispier, which I liked. The lemon rice soup was good, but needs a bit more lemon. I gave them that suggestion when I was there. The service is still quick and friendly. I heard it was sold about 2 years ago and was concerned, but the new owner has kept up the same great food as I grew up on and added a lot more.
