But I saw that they stock Kjaer Weis, which is a lovely low-waste cosmetic line, and figured it was worth a visit to avoid an online order. When I walked in (no makeup, milking day four of my blow-out after my last haircolor) I expected the cool reception I typically receive in places of "beauty." I love beauty products (I'm a bit of a makeup and skincare junkie) but have never really had a warm welcome in "beauty industry" places so I tend to avoid "beauty specialty" in favor of self-service spots. My experience here was the polar opposite. I walked in on a mission and was greeted with so much warmth and joy by Brendan, the owner, that before I even left the store I'd followed him on Instagram and was excited to keep in touch. He coached me through application of very simple cheeks and eyes with the Kjaer Weis product I was looking for, and helped me pick out exactly what I needed (and I've used the palette with love as my daily AND for evening ever since -- it's my favorite make-up in my kit). And beyond that, his joyful and welcoming energy made me feel at home in a "place of beauty." I'm comfortable and confident referring ANY of my friends to Brendan (and have and do, regularly now) and am especially excited to have somewhere and someone to refer friends who aren't always received warmly by the beauty industry to (including my man-friends and trans- and gender non-binary friends who aren't always warmly received in "beauty spaces.") Both times I've visited, I've felt strongly that that Brendan's ability to help create external beauty is supercharged by his ability to see the beauty within in anyone who walks in the door and that is a very, very special gift. If you've heard the hype and are the type to avoid a spot because of it, do yourself a favor and stop in. My treat to myself for the new year will be to start a facial habit here -- it's WAY out of my way, and very much worth the drive, and I'm just so delighted to be able to support such a warm and welcoming local business instead of the big chain stores.

In the summer I go natural, but in the Seattle fall and winter, a protective style is a must for ya girls sanity. I came in today looking for a lace-front wig. The store is a decent size and most of the wigs are to the right towards the back. While cruising the aisles, I grew disappointed because I noticed that the wigs displayed were not attractive and looked pretty old skool (no lace-fonts). I wasn't feeling anything I saw. I was about to leave when I saw at the front of the store were more wigs and they had what I wanted. I saw about 3 that I was interested in. How it works here is the better wigs are placed high near the ceiling. The owner was very attentive and took down the wig I asked for. I also picked up a couple of bonnets and saw that this store has pretty much, everything I needed. I did a lil happy dance because I knew I would be back. I plan on supporting this store. I like it. Take notice that you cannot just walk into the store. The owner keeps the door locked and she lets you in.

Plus, Tangletown is a cute area and this gave me an excuse to venture into a different area of Seattle. I didn't know anyone else who'd come here, or anything about the stylists - so I just took a leap and scheduled with Paul. I am so happy I did! Paul and I visited a bit so that he could get a feel for what I wanted and what I was comfortable with. He's an experienced stylist, and he had great ideas about what kind of cut would work best for my hair type (fine hair but lots of it, and a bit of wave here and there) as well as my lifestyle (low maintenance). Paul began with a light massage using some delicious smelling essential oils, with another scalp massage while washing my hair. While the conditioning mask sat on my hair, he gave me a hand massage. It was so relaxing, I nearly dozed off. Filling my cut, he dried and styled my hair so that I looked finished coming out of the salon. And my cut was fantastic. As a bonus, Paul is lovely. The salon itself is cozy and inviting. They have some boutique items, like sweaters and jackets, that they sell as well as an array of Aveda products. The whole place smells amazing. And the staff are also very sweet and helpful. A lot of salons are closed on Sundays and Mondays, but this salon is open (another reason I wound up coming here, as those are my "days off"). The person who cut my hair was again, pretty nice. She chatted with me and shared about her life. I found her very approachable/personable and enjoyed sitting in her chair. Every time she took a break from cutting, she cleaned up the floors. I appreciated the cleanliness of the salon. My critique was that I felt my hair was cut uneven. Every time I ponytail my hair, one side has a couple of strand (that is not my bangs) fall so it is an uneven ponytail. The right side of my hair is cut shorter than my left. The layering is badly done where there are long strands and short strands that look like some inexperienced person just randomly cut parts of my hair. I didn't notice it until I left. Another issue was that the lady suggested that I cut my hair shorter than I initially wanted. Although this is more my fault than her's, I was persuaded to cut my hair above my shoulders when I originally just wanted it below my shoulders. She told me that it would be cuter and would be more prone to flip in. I know it is more my fault that I caved and listened but I wish she just went with the picture I showed her. Now my hair is way shorter than I intended. Overall, I'm mostly annoyed that my hair was unevenly cut. It looks awful whenever I low ponytail my hair. It looks terrible that a chunk of my right hair falls out of the pony whereas the left stays in place. It makes me look sloppy. Now that I've had my haircut for more than two weeks, I get more annoyed with it day after day. Looking at the hair, I'm dissatisfied. It also irritates me because it falls out. It feels uncomfortable. This is probably one of the worst hair cuts I've ever had.

We were asked what we wanted help with and I said brows and blush application and my friend needed foundation matching and to know what brushes should be used for what applications. My friend left with foundation and brows and I had brows and blush, but no other makeup. I'm sorry but for $70 each, even if we had a Groupon I would And did expect a full face makeup lesson. We were so disappointed we ended up going to the MAC counter at Nordstrom and getting a lesson as well as a full face done and makeup for $50 each.

I'm glad they have the word Darling in their business name because this place sure is darling. Very cute, comfortable decor. Rachel is a sweetheart, very nice and made me feel comfortable. Now to the actual service... I'm not sure if this place is brand new but they need to make quite a few enhancements to the spray tanning process. I feel it's quite odd they do not have a restroom and should be required to. I'd also suggest a barrier cream for hands and feet for the client to apply, not the technician. The tech applies vaseline for you. Vaseline might not be sooo bad but I wish I would have applied it like I've done at other salons. My hands and feet turned out horrible. For your feet, you step on these sticky like sandals so the bottom of my feet looked so bad. Lastly, I wasn't fanned off at the end which resulted in some dark marks. Face turned out great though. Again, I love the decor and the gal who helped me but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon for a tan.
