Our guide was knowledgeable and engaging, sharing fascinating stories about the architecture, famous guests, and the resort's connection to Frank Lloyd Wright. The tour is an easy mix of indoor and outdoor stops, making it enjoyable even in the summer. One thing I wish had been handled differently was the billing. When I made my reservation, my Visa card was taken to hold our spot. At the end of the tour, I confirmed the cost was $30 per adult and was told that was correct, so I didn't think anything of it. It wasn't until the following day that I realized a 20% gratuity had already been added to my total. Our tour was absolutely worth tipping, and Ashley did a fantastic job. My concern isn't the gratuity itself--it's that it was never mentioned. Had I not checked my visa charge later, I could have easily tipped again in cash. I think this is a good resort for meeting up with a group or family, though there were plenty of couples while we were there. I didn't pay a ton for our stay which was good because I didn't really consider it a luxury property. A few things to note: the convenience store is only open till 6pm so plan accordingly. They will take you in a golf cart to your room. The pool is heated in the winter. Uber only takes a few minutes to come get you.

The snack and coffee shop, which could help fill that gap, closed far too early in the evening. Extending those hours would go a long way in improving the overall guest experience, particularly for those who want a light bite or a cup of coffee later in the day. The Room -- 6 out of 10. So we just turned off the AC and went to sleep. They were kind enough to deduct $100 off our bill but we slept terribly. Pools: there is a main pool, a lap pool and a hot tub. There is no food/drink service by the pool but we enjoyed relaxing there. Food: we were comped continental breakfast which included croissant, chia yogurt with granola, sliced melon and coffee or juice. We used this one time in the restaurant and the next day ordered it to go and brought it to our room. The granola was very good. There was a layer of dust build up on the Kleenex caddy and on the undercarriage of the sink. I'm surprised there haven't been updates to the interior of the hotel such that the carpet when you walk down the hall doesn't bubble and pucker in places. I was also taken aback to discover there were no glasses in my room and I only had the paper cups for the coffee to use. I was surprised the bed was comfortable and surprised the bottles of water in the room were free, so those were good surprises. I reserved the room on the 12th & by accident booked 2 rooms & within seconds realized my mistake. I cancelled one of the rooms because the cancellation policy says:" CANCELLATION POLICY Free Cancellation* Cancel your booking by 12 pm local hotel time 3 days prior to arrival to avoid a 1 night(s) cancel penalty charge." Also, my email confirmation said "NO ONLINE PAYMENT TAKEN". On the 13th, my card was charged for my one room I reserved which wasn't an issue because I had one room still. On the 19th, I was charged a second time. When I called today about it, Stephon explained to me that this was because I booked my two rooms & it was non-refundable but because I am a Millennium member, was allowed to cancel & cancelled within a short time, the cancellation was allowed. The refund would be 3-5 days. When I read to him the information from the confirmation email, he said he didn't know because that didn't come from anyone there at reservations but the refund would be there in 3-5 days. I'm honestly flummoxed as to the conflicting information. Why would the confirmation email say "no online payment taken" but then I'm charged? If cancellations are permissible & no payment was taken, why was there a charge at all? For the location of this establishment and the price, I expected more. I expected a more updated interior and to not see such sad, drab, old, & buckling carpets or colors with chopping paint. I didn't expect to see outdated CO2 & fire alarm equipment or AC equipment in the rooms. The bed was comfortable, free parking, no WiFi fee, & free water, which are big things, but overall I was disappointed. I'm especially disappointed after being double charged when I shouldn't have been. I don't know that I would stay here again.

The front desk specialist was very kind and went out of her way to help me check-in early. She also explained the amenities and made sure I was comfortable. I primarily judge a hotel by the fitness center and Internet speed since all hotels don't have concierge lounges or pools. This place checked all the boxes. My Internet was plenty fast - the hotel fitness center was air conditioned to cold and the views from the treadmills were fantastic. My room was also pretty big, really clean, and the decor stood out. I was very happy with this property -- I plan on staying here again on my next visit to Phoenix.

The rooftop pool is cool but small ish, filled with the Love Islanders, and lots of day thru night drinking (I don't recommend this hotel for business travelers or families). All in all, it depends on what you're looking for- depending on the type of stay, it'll be likely to be polarizing.

This is a historic property for Scottsdale as it was originally built in the early 1980s as a very high end Holiday Inn, and I remember when it was built (I grew up in Phoenix as a kid) and the architecture was modern and matched the then brand new Scottsdale Civic Center. The Scottsdale Civic Center, art museum and the nice park next door have been totally renovated as well, so it all feels brand new. The rooms are gorgeous with deep brown and taupe, soft sueded accents, some gold finishes and chic modern lighting. Comfortable beds and nice sheets. Compact, elegant and totally new bathrooms wth Malin + Goetz products. The pool is fantastic for doing laps with lots of comfy padded lounges and adjustable chairs, umbrellas, and a full bar with music during the day. There's a big jacuzzi connected to the pool. The hotel fitness center is near the pool area. It's airy inside with lots of windows. The equipment is very complete for a hotel gym with free weights, machines, kettle balls and cardio machines. The hotel staff is upbeat and cheerful. They have a brand new restaurant, Ella on the Park, a Southern USA influenced smokehouse. There's also a casual coffee bar with snacks. The entire lobby is beautifully redone with high ceilings. My gripes: 1. The $30 parking fee too high. It's more than some other hotels nearby. 2. The music that they played by the pool could be improved. It was a mix of generic greatest hits with some really mainstream rap music, and I feel like it could be a little more on trend. They need a DJ or someone to do a good mix because at one point the music was so bad (I understand music taste is subjective) and I just left the pool. I've stayed in many hotels where the poolside music was great and feel it could definitely be better. 3. When I was using the hotel gym, someone in charge at the hotel was walking through with workers (obviously in charge of the hotel remodel) and was loudly cussing up a storm with F and S words...I don't know if that's really appropriate in front of hotel clients using the gym?
