We visited Prado twice during our stay. Our first visit was for breakfast -- the food was okay but noticeably overpriced for what was offered. Our second visit was a far worse experience. We were seated and waited 15 minutes without our server ever acknowledging us, so we got up and left. The service at this restaurant was consistently poor and the pricing did not reflect the quality or experience provided. Dining Options -- Room for Improvement. For a resort of this size and reputation, the dining options felt limited. We would strongly recommend adding at least one additional restaurant to give guests more variety. The snack and coffee shop, which could help fill that gap, closed far too early in the evening. Extending those hours would go a long way in improving the overall guest experience, particularly for those who want a light bite or a cup of coffee later in the day. The Room -- 6 out of 10. The room itself was nice, but there were several issues that fell well below the standard I would expect from a resort of this caliber. The bed was old and noticeably worn down, making for an uncomfortable night's sleep. To make matters worse, the comforter on the bed was torn and had visible holes in it -- something that should never make it into a guest room. We also struggled with the room temperature throughout the night and were unable to get it to cool down comfortably. A Bright Spot at Checkout: I spoke with Avery Williams, Director of Front Office, at checkout and she was genuinely outstanding. She was sincerely concerned about the issues we experienced and did everything she could to address them. She even followed up with an email after our departure, which was a very nice touch. Overall, I left feeling somewhat disappointed given the reputation of this resort. With a few improvements -- additional dining options, extended snack shop hours, updated room bedding and linens, and better temperature control -- along with a serious look at the service standards at Prado, this could easily be a 9 or 10 out of 10 experience.

After multiple name changes over a few decades like The James, Mondrian and Saguaro...it's now totally remodeled and rebranded as the Hotel Solaya and is a Hyatt JdV property. This is a historic property for Scottsdale as it was originally built in the early 1980s as a very high end Holiday Inn, and I remember when it was built (I grew up in Phoenix as a kid) and the architecture was modern and matched the then brand new Scottsdale Civic Center. The Scottsdale Civic Center, art museum and the nice park next door have been totally renovated as well, so it all feels brand new. The rooms are gorgeous with deep brown and taupe, soft sueded accents, some gold finishes and chic modern lighting. Comfortable beds and nice sheets. Compact, elegant and totally new bathrooms wth Malin + Goetz products. The pool is fantastic for doing laps with lots of comfy padded lounges and adjustable chairs, umbrellas, and a full bar with music during the day. There's a big jacuzzi connected to the pool. The hotel fitness center is near the pool area. It's airy inside with lots of windows. The equipment is very complete for a hotel gym with free weights, machines, kettle balls and cardio machines. The hotel staff is upbeat and cheerful. They have a brand new restaurant, Ella on the Park, a Southern USA influenced smokehouse. There's also a casual coffee bar with snacks. The entire lobby is beautifully redone with high ceilings. My gripes: 1. The $30 parking fee too high. It's more than some other hotels nearby. 2. The music that they played by the pool could be improved. It was a mix of generic greatest hits with some really mainstream rap music, and I feel like it could be a little more on trend. They need a DJ or someone to do a good mix because at one point the music was so bad (I understand music taste is subjective) and I just left the pool. I've stayed in many hotels where the poolside music was great and feel it could definitely be better. 3. When I was using the hotel gym, someone in charge at the hotel was walking through with workers (obviously in charge of the hotel remodel) and was loudly cussing up a storm with F and S words...I don't know if that's really appropriate in front of hotel clients using the gym? The front desk employees are very friendly, always greeting you as you leave and enter the hotel. You do need your room key to go up the elevator, so if you have a guest visiting you, you'll have to go downstairs to get them. The Kauboi ("cowboy") restaurant is located inside the hotel on the 3rd floor. Known for their premium steaks and supposedly the best sushi in Scottsdale, it's something I hope I can check out next time. I have heard good things about it, so I'm looking forward to it. The rooms are very well appointed with a mini fridge, premium toiletries and even thick, plush bath robes which was a nice touch. They even have a "Romance Kit" stocked along with the alcohol for those feeling frisky, lol. Of course you'll be charged for the items you use/drink. The hotel is clean and the valet guys were helpful. I saw some reviews commenting about a security guard and that the valet guys weren't helpful, but not while I was there. Perhaps those reviews were from early on when the hotel opened last year?! All I know is, I was impressed from the moment I walked in. The hotel is high end and very classy. I primarily judge a hotel by the fitness center and Internet speed since all hotels don't have concierge lounges or pools. This place checked all the boxes. My Internet was plenty fast - the hotel fitness center was air conditioned to cold and the views from the treadmills were fantastic. My room was also pretty big, really clean, and the decor stood out. I was very happy with this property -- I plan on staying here again on my next visit to Phoenix.

The staff was consistently warm and attentive, especially Colin (who I believe is a manager--and if he isn't, he should be), our Hecho Libre server Sandra, and the food and beverage manager, whose name we unfortunately didn't catch. The nightly social hour and thoughtful text messages checking whether we needed anything were also wonderful touches that made us feel genuinely cared for. There are also a few easy improvements that could make an already attractive resort even better: covered parking would be a huge benefit during Arizona summers, moving the Canyon Vista daybeds next to the pool instead of the hot tub would make far more sense, and dressing up the large wall at Canyon Ridge with paint, trees, or climbing vines would greatly improve the atmosphere. Unfortunately, all of those positives were overshadowed by one major issue: the pool experience. We rented a daybed at Canyon Ridge because the website describes it as a place to "settle in with a cocktail at the boulder-surrounded Canyon Ridge Pool," which led us to believe it was geared toward adults seeking a relaxing atmosphere. Instead, we discovered every pool is family friendly. As a middle-aged, childfree couple, we book resorts to spend the day relaxing by the pool with good food and cocktails, not surrounded by chaos. Instead, we were treated to wannabe influencers blasting their own speakers over the DJ while filming social media videos, and herds of children screaming, crying, splashing, having Super Soaker fights, and even playing baseball in the pool. Their waterlogged ball flew toward us and other guests several times, creating a safety issue while the parents appeared far more interested in socializing than supervising their children. The biggest surprise wasn't the behavior itself, it was the complete lack of management. There was no pool manager, no one enforcing basic etiquette, and no effort to preserve the experience for everyone sharing the space. A luxury resort shouldn't feel like an unsupervised community water park. The pool also appeared understaffed. We weren't greeted by our server until a server from the neighboring pool noticed we'd been sitting there unattended and tracked her down. When she finally arrived, she acted as though serving us was an inconvenience. On Fourth of July weekend, that's a significant missed opportunity, not only for guest satisfaction but for revenue. Guests who are being ignored aren't spending money on food or drinks. Normally we'd spend the entire day by the pool ordering lunch, cocktails, and snacks. Instead, we left for lunch because we simply couldn't enjoy ourselves in the midst of all that chaos. In fact, when we book a staycation, we rarely leave the property. We intentionally spend money on meals, drinks, and other amenities all weekend, but we found ourselves leaving multiple times because we wanted a quieter, more relaxing atmosphere. That's revenue walking off your property. The most frustrating part is that this problem seems entirely fixable. There is no reason a resort of this size can't designate at least one pool as adults only. Plenty of luxury resorts successfully balance families with adults seeking relaxation. Instead, the atmosphere felt more like a spring break party at a community pool than a luxury Scottsdale resort, with little regard for guests looking to unwind. It's a shame, because beneath those issues is a beautiful resort with excellent food, wonderful employees, comfortable accommodations, and tremendous potential. If management made guest experience a priority by actively overseeing the pool environment and creating at least one adults-only pool, we'd happily give the Miralina another chance. Until then, while we enjoyed many aspects of our stay, we wouldn't return or recommend it to friends looking for a relaxing luxury getaway. The resort has all the ingredients to be exceptional...it simply needs to decide what kind of experience it wants to offer, and what kind of clientele it wants to attract.

Don and Tom have have interesting stories from the various professions in which they've worked, and will gladly chat with you during breakfast and/or dinner (at your special request) while you enjoy a six star culinary experience (all food is prepared by the more than competent Chef Don!). We slept in the Oriental Room. The mattress was every bit as comfortable as our own (we didn't miss a wink of sleep once we laid our heads on the pillows); and the light blocking curtains on the French doors allowed us to rise when we were ready. We were also pleased to relax on the patio adjacent to our room, with a cheerful fountain gurgling happily for ambiance. Each evening, we enjoyed sipping wine and relaxing in the comfortable backyard oasis with the fountain bubbling and flowing into the koi pond as Don prepared our savory dinner. We were especially thankful that Don cheerfully transported us to and from Sky Harbor airport, and even made a stop at Target for us to pick up some necessities on our arrival. But this wasn't the only time Don helped us with the details of our vacation. He is a very friendly, helpful and capable concierge (and I mean that in the most respectful way) - there is just no end to this man's talents! We are looking forward to future visits at Don's Elegante Bed and Breakfast.
