This place is so much fun. Reasonable prices in terms of entry, food, and beer. The staff is always very polite and professional.

But we wandered around, tossed some beanbags in the family fun zone, toured the facility, then headed upstairs.

If you're planning to attend the "World's Oldest Rodeo" in Prescott, AZ, consider this your…read morewarning: this event is run like a tourist trap, not a tradition. When you Google exactly "World's Oldest Rodeo Prescott AZ tickets," their official website is nowhere near the top. Instead, you're led to multiple third-party ticketing sites--some of which are even advertised ahead of their own. Like many, I bought tickets through StubHub, assuming any legitimate event would honor them. Wrong. We drove in with the family, paid for parking, and showed up with digital tickets in hand--only to be denied entry at the gate. The staff told us flatly, "We don't allow third-party ticket sales, so we canceled these tickets." Here's where it gets even more insulting: I asked to simply purchase the same seats at their box office. The woman replied, "Those seats are not available." So let's recap: * They allow tickets to be sold on third-party platforms * They cancel those tickets without notifying buyers * They resell the same seats after voiding the originals That's not just poor customer service--it's dishonest. This rodeo might be the oldest, but their ticketing practices are the most outdated and exploitative I've ever seen. Families travel in for this event, spend money on parking, food, and lodging--only to be shut out because of a system that seems designed to take your money twice. Shame on the organizers for hiding behind tradition while running a backdoor scam. Honor your legacy and get your act together. Until then, skip this event and support rodeos that actually respect their guests.

I enjoyed my visit to the fair this year, it was a little confusing at first to enter way around…read morethe other side of the rodeo arena, but once you for around to what I would dub *the middle of the fairgrounds* you were where all the action was located. They had vendors all up in the shade at the top of the stands. And they were lined up so you could go look around comfortably. The rides were on the far side of the grounds. The food vendors were somewhere in between. That's not a negative comment, please don't take it that way, we just visited the first time and it took a little getting used to, but we figured it out. We just arrived too early, so we felt like we were intruding at first LOL There was a line from about noon to the evening concerts, so come a tad early if you want to avoid all those people. Oh and follow the signs to park, not your GPS. Ugh. Our GPS sent us down alleys!! We got there though and it was a great visit and great fair.

Rodeo events include bronc riding, wild horse racing, wild cow milking, ribbon roping, calf roping and kids steer riding! What fun! It seemed like everyone in Williams was there... wearing their cowboy boots, hats and Wrangler jeans. I definitely felt like an outsider, but couldn't help but have a great time. At night there was also a barn dance, which I didn't get to go to, but I'm sure that was equally as fun. This annual event happens early June each year. Don't miss it if you're in town!

Family members from grandparents to tykes participating in special events let you know that this rodeo will continue for years to come. Don't expect a showy venue or people hawking wares made in other countries. Do expect afternoons of real excitement watching REAL cowboys displaying what they do every day. Do expect pride in America and genuine emotions as people ride that bronco or miss roping a steer. Do expect to meet people who welcome you as if they've known you for years and who are genuinely happy you're spending time with them watching and cheering their friends and neighbors. Once you go through the doors there's an escalator and stairs to go up. I got here at 12pm to get our table ready because apparently it's a packed house due to the prize amount being $200k assuming you win Turf Paradise races 3-8. I only won race 2 putting horse number 8, Dos Special Eye8Mark A. Jasso | Alex Garcia. With $2 to bet to win I won $15.80 haha! Betting on the horses using the trifecta way was very difficult and costly. You can go to the machines to bet where you'll get the change on a betting ticket to use as your money. Or you can use the cashiers to place your bets. We tried the bowl of beef chili (which was more like paste consistency rather than soup so we ate these with some of our nacho chips), nachos and chips with salsa and guacamole. Tables are very minimal and space is tight. Most are 4 chairs to a table. Our server was very friendly and attentive. There were mostly adults and few kids that attended today's event. This is wheelchair friendly too. Great for large groups as long as you reserve to have a bunch of tables near each other. I would come back again!

Also bring cash for entrance fee and betting and a hat or visor for outside viewing. We needed $5 a person cash only to enter, but parking was free in their large dirt lot. Betting starts at $2 minimum. We were celebrating birthdays and one person in our group brought cupcakes from a bakery. We arrived at 12:20 pm on a Sat and there was plenty of parking and the entrance line to the building was short. Some people in our party group arrived 30 min later and the line to get in was much longer. We were the first in our group to arrive. We paid $5 to enter and then took the escalator to the 2nd floor and stood in line for the hostess. Our friend had reserved 3 tables under her name. The hostess gave us 3 tickets with the reserved table numbers and directions on where to go. The indoor seating area has a great view of the track and surrounding mountains. There are menus on the table and a wait person will come around to take orders. There was no pressure to order anything so I just had water. You run a tab and pay the wait person before leaving. You can look out the window and see the race and each table had a tv monitor that shows each race. We didn't realize that our monitor was showing races from another location until a couple hours later. We fiddled with the controls but learned that only the waitress has the remote that can change the channel. Once we were on the "Turf Paradise" channel we could better follow the action. I was glad that one person in our group understood how betting worked as we needed an explanation. If desired we could walk outside to the bleacher area or down by the track. Races may only be on weekends during the months when it's not too hot outside. Overall it was a fun group activity.

They also had vendors inside, a bar and race betting machines. One thing I learned was to reserve tables in advance. You get to see the horses the entire time but the best zone is watching at the finish lines. Drinks for a seltzer were -$12 and a cocktail was ~$14. Overall a fun experience!

There's a large tent with VIP seating, vendors, and bars. There's another outdoor area with reserved tables and live music. And there were two food trucks (a BBQ joint and a grilled cheese spot). Here's the good and the bad: (1) The large tent is supposed to be VIP but there's grass and dirt accompanied by overpriced drinks; (2) You can view the live races from this area; (3) there was a Stella Artois stand that was giving out free samples and a personalized engraved Stella glass; (4) You can go to the other parts of the venue but you can't bring alcohol to the other parts (meaning you have to finish it before you go to other sections); (5) There are no bathrooms. So, not worth the price of admission in my mind. The coolest part of an event like this is seeing how everyone dresses up, especially the women with their elaborate hats and sun dresses. I'd go with general admission, though. Those areas have lower priced drinks, too.

Our 7-year-old daughter was very nervous heading into the ride - she had never ridden solo before and Dean was so thoughtful and warm with her from the very start. He took his time getting her comfortable and paired her with Sargent, the slowest and steadiest horse on the ranch. Dean had her ride directly behind him on a lead rope so she felt confident and secure for the ride (and honestly, so did me her mom!). It was also our 10-year-old daughter first time riding, and Dean made it so easy and fun for her - she took to it naturally and was grinning ear to ear the entire trail. He struck the perfect balance of keeping both girls safe while letting them feel like real cowgirls for the day! And the views were absolutely breathtaking! The scenery along the trail was stunning from start to finish and made the whole experience feel magical. It was a truly wonderful ride and we will absolutely be coming back. Thank you, Dean and Horsin' Around - five stars all the way!
