The course was in good shape and every staff member we encountered was enthusiastic and helpful. While the total distance for the course is on the short side, water came into play on multiple holes, and the contours of the fairways and greens presented challenges. I was the 5th Tee time and no cart girl to be found. I asked an attendant and was told shes been just sitting at hole 12. I called the clubhouse multiple times and the worker in there was rude. If you are looking for a breathtaking view while going golfing, this is the place to go! I love the creativity of where the Tee Box setups are. Golf carts come with GPS, ball washer, and club washer. The course condition was not at its best. There were patchy spots. For the price you pay, it is definitely not as worth it. The view is worth it. Golf carts with drinks come by often. The views are pretty great in a few different places. Sure the course needs some work, but it was not in that bad of shape. The layout of some of the holes was pretty cool. Hitting up to the green and the elevated tee boxes on a few holes were fun. Cost is what it is here with it being a resort. $10 Coors lights is a little rough. read more

This was my first time playing here and there were good things and not so good things which is why I'm giving it a 4 star rating. It is nice that it is pretty much right off the freeway amongst a collection of residences and resort area. One thing I will echo others in is that the signage is not great starting from the bag drop area, clubhouse location and onto the course (luckily we played with a local who was able to help guide us). It would also be nice if they had a proper driving range to warm up before but I didn't get there early enough to do so anyways. Everyone that I encountered here was very friendly and helpful especially the starters. One thing that would have been nice is to allow golf carts into the parking lot to unload or help getting our bags to the parking lot since I've seen something similar at other golf resorts. For the course itself, the terrain and holes were quite unique and definitely not boring. I did lose quite a few balls to water and to the desert landscape but was enjoyable to play. I especially liked the last hole that featured a lovely view. While some of the greens were a little dry it didn't bother me much and overall had a good experience here. read more

OK, I truly understand a lot of the bad reviews. It seems many of them paid a high price for a course that should be in a lot better condition. So I do honestly believe many of these bad reviews are very true. Regarding my experience, I attended a charity event. It was fun, and the course layout is great. I kept telling myself, I would love to come back here when it's in great shape and play it. However it hit me, Would I like to play a course that had no driving range, not that good of a putting green. For the price I am hearing? And yes, the course was not in that great of a shape. Many of the tee boxes were actually closed, and the temporary tee boxes were in horrid shape. Just make me wonder how great this course can really be when it's in great shape? Maybe I'll never know. Complete shit show. I spoke with management to secure a replay rate as I was booking the tee times for a 7-day golf vacation for 12 guys. When I got there, the golf "manager" AJ refused to speak with me and her staff charged my whole group without a replay rate. Then they put a 7-some in front of us and the rangers said they had a agreement with management to do so! So they honor some arrangements but not others and their rangers are useless. What is the point of having rangers if you allow a 7-some?! A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. The boys are Wisconsinites too. They would've gladly paid the $75 (with tip) per 6-pack for years to come if we were treated right. The ground was not in good shape either for a January. Trash course. The staff was amazing and I could tell they were not happy with the condition of the course so the management needs to get on the same page. In my 30+ years of golf I have never been on worse greens, and I've played bad muni's in my time. At best this is a $40 course and I paid $500 for 2 juniors (no discount for the future of the sport), and 2 adults. I like this course. I grew up near by and played it a few times as a kid. But even now with some experience behind my belt it's still a fun course. Let me start with the cart girl Alyssa. She was super cool the times we ran into her. Kept us hydrated when my buddy and I are were playing in 117* weather. Was fun to chat with as well so shout out to her. She even remembered a few weeks later when we had a foursome as well so very wholesome. The condition of the course is not bad for the summer time. Sure the sand can be kinda shitty but just don't hit in it. That's basically the point of a sand trap is to not hit in it. Also this is not a PGA tour course. It's a great resort course. So after you can grab some more drinks and hit the water park as well if you'd like. There's some deep rough off to the side of just about every hole, some great views of south mountain. You can see a beautiful view of the valley as well towards the back 9. So if you want an experience of playing through the desert for a challenging course with kind staff I suggest checking the course out. read more

First the course is in terrible shape, I understand it's summer but I play lots of courses throughout AZ and this is the worst and on top of that 75 a golfer. I am partially handicap having 3 full replacements on my right knee. I had to call the club house 3 times and ask them to put my cart on handicap and they never did which meant I only could play 3/4 of the course, our cart kept shutting off and I'm not talking around the greens. If you want a challenge this course is very challenging but would be a great scramble course with friends. It is a tough course so if you need handicap accommodation don't play this course. Played 18 at Arizona Grand for the first time on a weekday morning. Our reserved tee time was mysteriously deleted, but the gentleman in the club house made it right. Marc, the starter, was extremely helpful and personable. Marc is awesome. THE GOOD With the exception of the first two holes, the layout is great (more on that later). The greens were receptive to most good shots.. maybe a bit on the hard side, but they were well manicured and rolled true. The tee boxes and fairways were also well maintained. Zero complaints about the condition of the course. THE BAD They might do better there if they permitted walking. Why? Because they have most of the fairways roped off, which delays play because you have to find your yardage and then go back to your cart to grab a club.. or take a handful of clubs with you to every approach shot. The roping off was excessive, as was a greenskeeper's scolding of my playing partner for being in a "no cart" area looking for her ball. It would have been easier just to walk the front nine. THE UGLY In my opinion the first two holes are poorly designed. The first hole is a blind tee shot over a 45 degree sloped hill. A penetrating ball flight for your first shot of the day will be eaten by the massive hill, guaranteeing you no better than bogie. The second hole also offers a blind tee shot against the backside of that same 45 degree mountain. Lurking behind the mountain, and less than five yards off the left side of the fairway, is a goofy shed secured by chicken wire. I was expecting to see a windmill on the green. I can understand the negative reviews here. But, overall, this is a very nice course. We played in under 4 hrs. The ranger was very nice. read more

What an fun, challenging and beautiful course! Bring your out of town golf loving family/friends, and they'll be talking about the AZ Grand for years. I've lived in AZ for 6+yrs, and have driven by it almost every day for the past year, but had never played there. An uncle was in town and it was on his "must play" list. Now it's on both of our "must play again" lists. The front 9 mostly winds up and down a lush green valley. Lots of wide fairways. The back 9 is totally different, pure desert golf winding along South Mountain Park. Like playing two different courses, which was part of the fun I highly recommend you play your first time with somebody who has played the AZ Grand before, because there are so many blind shots. One of the fantastic features is the many elevation changes, which is rare from many Phoenix courses, but that coupled with the vegetation can make it difficult to see where it's safe to hit. The back 9 is not forgiving, but I actually played 3 strokes better, maybe because I had to play it safer I can't say enough about the Arizona Grand Golf Course. Played here today with my son. A 12:25 tee time, 2:15 for the front 9. It then took us an hour to play the next 3 holes. 3:15 to play twelve holes, on pace for a 5:30 round. Ugh. The course is in less than ideal condition. It's a short course & kinda fun layout, but man, AZ Grand isn't spending much on the course up keep. Front of the first green a huge area of burn out. Watch out on no. 2 green. On the hill right above the green is a practice net. But the net doesn't extend all the way to the ground. We were almost hit twice as balls came zipping down the hill and across the green. Hope AZ Grand has paid their liability insurance premium. Safe to say, we won't be back. Beautiful course. And for someone like me who doesn't drive far, this course is 'doable'. Beautifully groomed, greens are good - slow to start and quicker as it warms up. The rough is thick so stay on the fairways. Course is well marked and easy to follow. Played with 2 very nice kids (anyone younger than us are kids - they were in their 30s) who were a wealth of info on surrounding landmarks, areas, other golf courses and pubs. The signage is very poor. For signs to clubhouse and signs for each hole. We started at 5:50a to get a jump on the heat. When we were done 1030 or sip, we went into the bar to have something cold to drink. We went into the bar. No bartender. Several staff members walked by but did not say one word to us. The course was enjoyable and challenging. giving a one star review for being kicked off the course in the middle of play on the 16th hole. we were told sundown was at 6:15 but never told someone was going to drive through the course and kick us off. at 6:17, a golf cart drove onto the hole we were playing and stopped us claiming the golf course was close and we couldn't finish the play. when we got back to the clubhouse we were told that golf carts had to be back at 6:15. asked to speak to the manager on duty (AJ) but he wasn't on property. we do not plan to return if this is how they treat their guests. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service! Payed $130 for a round of golf, and the cart died on the 12th hole. We continuously called the shop to get assistance, of some sort and no answer we called at least 7 times. It was later in the day so no cart ladies came by in that time either. We ended up having to walk back to our vehicles and left the cart behind. When we approached the gentleman at the shop we returned the keys and shared our frustration, at that time he simply said "oh don't worry someone will go back and get it, happens all the time." $130 for 12 holes and a long walk! From the moment I arrived, I started feeling like something was wrong. And, shortly after that and before starting to play, I started to develop a list of everything that was wrong. I've never done this before, even with some pretty crappy courses. It starts with an awkward approach to the course. The markings for finding the course vary, so you don't know if you missed something.. I'm a local and Google Maps was useless. The "Pro Shop" is a joke, which is basically just a place to take your greens fees. That's it. The "driving range" is a net. The practice green is a ratty oval about the size of a small kitchen floor that's rounded off. Most of the holes have blind shots in some parts of them. That in itself could be interesting, but that combined with pitiful distance markings and very tiny pictures of the holes on the scorecard, you have no idea where to hit, what club to hit, or if there are players on the course ahead of you. It the most bizarre course of its kind I've every encountered. I found it way beyond irritating. In fact, it was dangerous. On top of all of this, the greens were in terrible condition. Balls did not roll true... ever. The greens look like they should be reasonably fast, but they were deadly slow. The tee boxes were equally ratty with no flat spots and very few nicely grassy spots. Fairways look nice from a distance (like driving by on the roads that criss-cross the course), but they too border on ratty in far too many spots. To make things even worse and much bizarre, I saw my golfing buddy trying to figure out where to hit by driving up the hill so he could see the fairway and green. He was about 100 yards ahead of me. Someone in another cart came down to him, jumped out of his cart then pushed him, almost knocking him over. My buddy, who's generally very low key and passive threw a punch at this guy, who then turned around got back in his cart drove back up to the top of the hill. As it turned out, the person you accosted my buddy was the ranger who came down, pushed while violently cursing at him for driving the cart on the hill. About 20 minutes later the police arrived concluding it was a he-said-he-said situation and left, but the course security kicked my buddy off the course forever. And, this "head" of security had the audacity to tell me I could keep playing. What?! In what kind of world do you live in? I'm going to keep playing while you treat my friend like this? Are you kidding me? Where is you decency? This "head of security" (??) reminded me of an old bouncer in a seedy part of south Philadelphia. He certainly didn't make me feel like golfers' safety was at all on his radar. And, then, where is your ranger's (Scott's) common decency in dealing with golfers? I've seen rangers deal with people who break rules. It usually starts out something like this: "Hello, gentlemen. I"d like to remind you that we're trying to keep this part of our course protected so we can grow our grass. So, please try to avoid driving carts in these areas. Okay? Thanks!" It doesn't start out like Scott's "You mother f**ker! I'm tired of people like you! You need to get your f*cking ***' etc........." This kind of behavior is not appropriate for "Golf." And, it's not appropriate in a decent human society. Needless to say I will never play at this course again. And, this decision was made prior to the Scott-the-ranger incident. But, certainly this incident has sealed this decision.google read more

For $180 we got tee boxes with NO grass, tee times spaced 7 minutes apart resulting in a 6 hour round, marshals telling us "hey, you guys need to pick up the pace" when the group in front is 100 yards ahead of us.....bottom line DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE. Other than that, this course has absolutely no care in the world about its customers. My group of four were harassed by "Tom" and told we were moving "too slow" and then when we sped up, we were told we were moving "too fast." We were also cussed at by the staff while we are in the middle of playing a hole. Absolutely unbelievable behavior. Bottom line, the staff at Arizona Grand are sure to treat you like complete shit. Myself and a group of friends travel to Phoenix every March to watch the Dodgers in Spring training, This was the first time playing this course but we all agreed that it will be a yearly thing. I really do not understand the poor reviews, well I can because I understand how people lash out when they feel that everything was not perfect yet forget that they too are not perfect. Anyway, this is a great course very challenging and it is gorgeous!!! They staff was very accommodating there was a group of 7 of us and they set us up with back to back tee times at 6:30 am. They have a huge selection of rental clubs. I would absolutely recommend Arizona Grand, for the price it is a great value. I would say that they only down side is that you have to play thru all 18, you do not circle back after the front 9 and end up at the club house. There is a cart girl that has plenty to drink. This course was in horrible shape, and prices charged were outrageous for the course condition. Many tree boxes were under repair and closed, and the back up ones were pieces of Astro turf placed badly. Their prices were not adjusted for the horrible condition. I even took time to write an extensive email to the manager, and he emailed back asking to call to discuss my issues, and never even followed through. Better off playing a local muni course like Ken McDonald or Dobson. They are in far better condition and a better value for the money. Or pay a little more for a premier course.
