I have mixed feelings about this store. The times I've taken clothes, etc.,for resell are very inconsistent. I have brought in 4-6 things in and made a a fair amount of cash and another time with 3 bag loads and given lunch money. Staff is very immature, can be downright rude and tacky and another time be respectful and courteous. But the one thing that just really ticks me off is the fact that they want your clothes to be clean, in good condition and folded but if you're left with anything they won't take, they wad the item up and are in a heap in the bag like they mean for it to look like a trash bag! I prepare all my things for observation with care and its so disrespectful. I'm not saying only once, its everytime. Second hand store or not, they could show a bit more class. read more

Yesterday was my first time at Arizona Trading Company, and honestly? I had no idea what I was walking into. I rolled in with over a dozen pair of jeans--including two never-worn, high-end designer divas that had been haunting the "maybe someday" section of my closet. You know the ones: too expensive to wear, too guilty to toss. At this point, they were basically emotional support denim. Fifteen minutes later, I walked out with cold hard cash. Real, actual Andrew Jacksons. No paperwork. No judgment. No shady consignment vibes. Just: "Thanks, here's your money." Boom. Done. Easiest hustle I've ever pulled. They even offered me 10% more in store credit--and yeah, I considered it. There were some fire pieces that almost had me breaking my own rules. But let's be real: my closet is already a crime scene. The mission was purge, not relapse. Bottom line? If your closet's bursting with regrets and "what was I thinking" buys, ATC is your no-BS exit strategy. Cool staff, smooth process, no pressure. I don't know if they've changed management or something, but the quality has really gone down. There's a bunch of stuff on display that they won't allow you to buy and about 70% of the things there are just SHEIN or Temu trash. Not worth buying in the first place, let alone secondhand. I was also unimpressed with the people working there. The two folks at the back (by the dressing rooms) were helpful and nice when they actually took the time to help us, but all of the 3-4 people standing around at the front counter didn't give us the time of day, with the exception of one person. She greeted us when we came in and helped me figure out a price on something. Other than that, we got the cold shoulder and some pretty nasty looks from the folks at the front. It felt like WE were interrupting THEM, which is never good when you're just trying to shop. Not really worth the visit anymore, at least in my opinion. The best thrift/consignment store in Lawrence! The employees are always kind and personable. When selling your items, the process is very simple and efficient! You drop your items off at the front counter, shop around OR drop off. When they are finished looking through your items, you are offered either a cash payout or more $ if you choose in store trade! It's hard to leave ATC without purchasing something. They even have a dollar section in the back! They have amazing pricing throughout the store and you never know what you're going to find! They sell men's + women's vintage, Y2K, + modern jewelry, shoes, bags, clothing + more! ATC is my absolute favorite for finding thrifted gems and dropping off items that others can enjoy! read more

I do cleaning of homes and I do the pick up clean up of all items....one house I did when they gave me the stuff back there was bugs in it when I came back in to ask them why they didn't tell me so I could have told the owners they said nothing yet they have treated me rudely and have smirked laughed ect when we come in ....I think it's sad that such a place would rather treat its customers like crap then fix the issue I just took in a nice bunch of pricey clothes and they said they smelled of cat piss well that's funny because this lady had no cats and we had many people smell it and no one coulsd smell cat piss the problem. Once upon a time I found a beautiful vintage Coach purse here for like $30, but I've never had such luck again. Things are honestly just so overpriced that it's a huge deterrent for me to come here. I almost laughed when I saw a bowl of plastic claw hair clips selling for $6 each... those sell new for like $5. Perhaps a benefit of coming here is that they curate their inventory somewhat. So if ATC fits your style you might find a lot of good things there. But, certainly don't come here expecting Goodwill prices. read more

I know people who can pull off vintage style. I envy them. For $25 they can look better than people who shell out hundreds. And I bet a lot of them shop at Arizona Trading Company. ATC is a senior among Mass Street's growing class of vintage stores. I like ATC better than some of the new places, although that may be directly related to the fact that it's next door to Creation Station and I'm already suffering from incense intoxication every time I walk in. Nah, it's not just the patchouli. ATC has a better selection, brighter colors, and sassier window displays. Maybe they inspire shoppers more! Maybe they put people more in touch with their inner accessorizer ... it's what separates us from animals, you know! Whether you lean toward bowling shirt nerd chic or girly girl bangles and bows, at ATC you can probably find that certain "je ne sais quoi" that will send you into the retro-style stratosphere. read more

To define your hipster look, you shop at Arizona Trading Company. One of the best re-sell your old look, for the new one stores in the area. The people who work here are super nice, always look good too (i didn't mean that in a creepy way) Any way, I was actually expecting it to be an Arizona jeans store (remember those?)--not that I would where it, but the window displays looked so intriguing. I thought, "hmm, maybe they've changed their image?" Only to walk in and find vintage and cheap thrift clothes, I was much more pleased than expected. As someone who has spent many years making shopping trips to ATC, I consider it a local gem when it comes to second hand stores in Lawrence, KS. Arizona Trading Company is price friendly, full of clothing that caters to different styles, and is home to a welcoming and helpful staff. You have not truly discovered Arizona Trading Company, unless you've visited their famous dollar-rack located at the back of the store. It can be sparse at times, but like all second hand stores, just as often you hit the jackpot. To this day my favorite pair of pink corduroy pants are gems I found on the ATC dollar rack, and as for the average price of the clothes they sell, I would say they do a fair job at pricing their items most of the time. My only complaint for the shop's merchandise is in regards to their shoe selection and vintage. The shoes they sell are often very cute and to my taste, but they rarely have womens shoes that fit a larger foot size such as my own, making it hard to find affordable second hand shoes, in my size. On the topic of their vintage merchandise, it is much the same, as their vintage collection is highly priced and often lacks diversity in the styles and sizes of vintage clothing they sell. Overall I recognize these are nitpicky complaints, as being a second hand store means they cannot be guaranteed 100% control over the merchandise they sell, however I do think they could do work to improve in these particular areas. Finally, my favorite part of this review! So, let's jump right into discussing ATC's clothing and merchandise selection! As I said earlier, I have been shopping at ATC for basically my whole life, and while my style has adapted over the years, I can still look to ATC to be my first stop on my shopping list when I need new clothes or want to spice up my wardrobe. The counter is to your right when you enter the store, and that's where the accessories begin. Their merch at the counter is often changing, but you can find all sorts of cute and stylish extras there ranging from jewelry and scrunchies to sunglasses, socks, and hairclips. The rest of the store is well you guessed it, clothes! They have a lovely diversity amongst the styles they sell, and their clothing selection changes with the season. This means I can nearly always go in there and find the perfect fits for whatever the season may be. If you're a fashion geek like me, you will find yourself lured into the store by the displays at the front window, but don't worry because those displays accurately represent the fashionable attire to be found within. To put it in perspective, I'm not a sweater person, but I've purchased the most adorable sweaters there that I never hesitate to pull out in the fall! Like every store, it's never just about the quality of their merchandise,  but also the atmosphere and hospitality of the staff working there. This is definitely an area ATC excels in, as the employee's working there are very helpful if you ask them something, but will not badger you to see if you need help finding anything. This is a more conditional area of the review, because not everyone finds the same type of service hospitable, but in my opinion it gives the shopper time to browse and explore the store without the overbearing assistance of an employee. ATC has a welcoming and warm environment with helpful and pleasant staff, but if you're in the mood to just browse or aren't looking for anything in particular, this is the place to go, and you are guaranteed a pleasant experience. Compared to the ATC in Westport (KCMO), this place is a joke. I can't really complain about their stock, since they are a consignment shop and their inventory is always changing. I can say, however, that their buying policies are totally inconsistent, and the girls working the counter are almost always pretentious and bitchy. I shopped at the Kansas City ATC countless times when I lived downtown, and they were always friendly and more than happy to help you sift through things to find the perfect piece. The employees at the Lawrence store don't seem to give a lick whether you purchase an item, leave the store empty-handed, or drop dead in the middle of the sales floor. They're far too busy looking at one another over their Buddy Holly glasses and talking about bands nobody has ever heard of. read more

This ATC location is definitely a "hit or miss" and I can echo the other girls who have experienced confusion especially when selling their clothing. I am no stranger to the rules of consignment and have many fond memories of buying and selling at my favorite Buffalo Exchanges back home in CA. I only ever bring in stuff that is in great condition, on-trend or vintage and season-worthy. I will encounter certain buyers at this location (one in particular) who won't take but maybe 10% of the stuff I bring in. The flip side is the times when I have brought in my closet purges (I have a bit of a shopping addiction) and different girls are buying. Lo and behold, I will leave with only 10% of what I brought in! It makes no sense. It's bad when your husband even notices and suggests not selling when a certain associate is working. Don't get me wrong, there are friendly associates and great buyers that work there. But overall I feel that a consignment store should be buying for the benefit of the store and it's shoppers. I want to support the Lawrence ATC but it makes me hesitant when the buying process isn't consistent. *Note* I took a recent haul that was turned down (3 large dept. store bags) and made a trip to the ATC in KC. They bought the majority leaving me with only a few pieces to drop at the Goodwill. Success! read more

I don't have any experience in selling clothes at this location, but it's always been great for shopping. The vibe is casual and cute, the staff are always well dressed and friendly, and they have great outfits put together on the mannequins (yes, I'm guilty of just buying the whole coordination.) There's always a good selection and you can even find nice things in the $1 bin back by the dressing rooms. This thrift store is great because it has a nice mens section as well, which some of the other vintage stores on Mass. Street lack. It makes my boyfriend more excited to come shopping with me when we can both try on new stuff! Every time I'm downtown and I see that open door I end up going in at least to browse, and I've had so many great finds there I'll probably keep coming in for a long time. See that ultra violet Manic Panic wig on the mannequin for the past 5 years? They bought that from me. I love it, and am happy to see it being put to good use. It's one of the few things they've actually bought from me...My experience at ATC over the years has really been hit or miss. As far as buying, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what they choose. I've sold a lot before, and nothing before. I sold a super cool designer blouse with the $100 tag still attached to them for just a couple dollars. (Cleaning out my closet...) And much cheaper, old, worn clothes for more than that blouse...Who knows? I don't. The only thing more hit or miss than their buying seems their customer service. I've never had an in-between experience shopping there. (Does anyone remember the Victor Continental sketch about it?) On the plus side, the past few times I've been in recently, I've received good, pretense-free service. As far as what they carry, they go in cycles. Right now it's a lot of loud colors, synthetic fabrics, and things only teenagers wear ironically. (Which is fine, teenagers need somewhere to get their gold lamé and holey rainbow cardigan fix.) They also have very limited sizes right now. But that could be the time of year (January). They've had better clothes in the past, and hopefully they'll have better clothes in the near-future. I first heard about Arizona Trading Company when I first moved to Lawrence. I asked my roommate where she got her shirt and she said "Arizona." I assumed she meant the state, but was soon corrected- it's a thift store/trading company where you bring your old clothes and trade them in for credit. I always get thrown off by stores named after places or states, but maybe that's just me. Arizona can be a goldmine of really unique and cool stuff or a total miss- it just depends on what they have around. The store itself is pretty cool- it's obvious the employees had fun decorating with cutouts of magazines, etc. As with most college towns, there are a few stores similar in town, but Arizona seems to have the widest selection and it's always good for a laugh at some glittery gogo boots or snappy little polyester number with ruffles. read more

The smell is interesting when you walk in kinda like good will which is to be expected however it caught me off guard. Otherwise, it's great for recycled affordable clothing, purses, shoes, accessories. Can't comment on customer service they never really interacted except at check out. The shop was fairly small, but I will say it had a nice selection of clothing and the prices were excellent. Unfortunately, there is much room for improvement in terms of customer service at this establishment. I had traveled to Lawrence to see a concert and had hit construction along the way, so I had not arrived as early as I had hoped so that I could visit a couple shops beforehand. I arrived at ATC twelve minutes before they were going to close. I'm the kind of person that goes into a store knowing what I like and am super fast at skimming through items, plus I know to be considerate of employees and not stay past closing time. During those few minutes, each of the three employees made it a point to tell me they were going to close soon (keep in mind, it's a small shop and I was the only person in there). I politely told them I was aware of this and will be quick. None of them asked if they could help me find anything or any other polite phrase/question. I didn't try anything on and it only took me a few minutes to grab a couple items. During checkout, I tried to speak with the cashier a little bit while she rang me up. She did not respond, nor even look at me. Just rang up the items, scanned my card, gave it back, and handed me the bag of items. Upon leaving, no one said anything along the lines of "thanks, come again!". They literally locked the door right as I stepped out of the shop. I checked my phone and there were still minutes to spare. Not exactly the best first impression. read more

This company needs to provide actual helpful information about the process of selling to them.They would not buy anything that was actually worn. I do have the tendency of wearing the clothing that I buy not keeping it pristine to sell at bottom basement prices. Everything I took to them was in great condition. One pair of jeans had never been worn and even had the store tags still on them. Nothing was good enough to purchase which was a joke after I had looked around at what was being offered. Muddy shoes that were worn and scuffed. Shirts that were obviously worn out. I think they select purchases based on who they are buying it from and not from what is being offered. read more

Visited this store on Friday to discuss what items they like. Took a sampling of the very items they described on Saturday. Only kept 3 of 20 items. Different person there on Saturday. Did the same thing at the place in Westport, got same results. Do not think we will do business with these folks again. Seems they are limited on cash and attempt to keep purchases down to bare minimum. Also, they do not let you know the value/cost of the individual items they keep. This used to be my favorite spot for used clothes. They have a wide variety of styles from current to retro. You find a lot of signature pieces here. Besides used clothing, they also offer handmade accessories by local Lawrence artists. Since they chopped the location in half, there's less to look through and a more crowded fitting room situation. But it's well worth checking out to find that one of a kind piece to make you feel good. read more

I have to say that before I write this review, I'm not referring to one particular visit to Arizona Trading Company... It wasn't just a bad day, I've lived here for 4 years and it's always been the same thing. If you don't like being talked about and made fun of by the staff behind the counter while you're doing your shopping, you probably won't like it here, whether you're buying or selling. I tried selling clothes here twice and one time they just rejected everything (no big deal), the next time (all new things, it was a new season) as I was shopping around waiting for them to finish, I couldn't help but notice them making fun of my clothes and laughing, only to again reject everything I brought in. I have to note that I pick out good brands and wash my clothes before coming in, I don't present them with dirty, stained, torn clothes. Seriously the most sarcastic, fake girls I've ever dealt with. It feels just like high school every time I go into the store. The management clearly has no standards when it comes to customer service. In my opinion, the store is a complete joke because of this alone. I have to mention there is an exception with two girls at this store (I'm not even sure if they still work there though...) that have been nice when I went to pay, but I'd have to say it's a bad experience nine times out of ten. I then took my bag to Plato's closet where they took a few of my things, and very politely explained why they wouldn't take the rest. You may wonder why I continue to shop at Arizona Trading Company, and it's only because there are so very few thrift stores in this town. I will absolutely no longer sell to them though, Plato's always takes more of my clothes anyway and are always so nice to you, I can't recall one bad experience, just times I left happy because I notice and greatly appreciate good service. The ATC store in Westport KC is sooo much better, I don't go there often, but the few times I have, they were very polite and I found some amazing things. The ATC in Lawrence is always picked over, I find more at Goodwill and Salvation Army, plus it's way cheaper. I'm not trying to be mean because it's the internet and it's easy, the feeling that I get when I walk into this store is just awful and I have friends that know exactly what I'm talking about. I made a recent trip to the store and it was the exact same thing, time after time, which is what inspired me to finally write a review. Every time I go to ATC, they have exactly what I'm looking for. I'm a junior High Student, so I can understand why many adults might not prefer this store, but its great for teenagers. You can go in with a bucket of clothes and get $40 dollars of store credit at the store. The only problem is that if you bring clothes in, you'll probably come out with some too. ATC has always been a great place for people to come and hang out, and a lot of there clothes are from chain stores, i.e. Urban Outfitters, Envy, Forever 21. The clothes are sold for a lot less then their original price. And if you just want a completely new look, its a great place to swap it all out. You can choose Either In Store Credit or Cash to go get lunch or something downtown. ATC is definitely one of my favorite stores, and i'm glad we have it in Lawrence. It's a great place to hang out, have fun, and get some new threads. You should definitely stop buy If your in town. read more
