Great pricing and the volunteers are lovely! I donated while I was there and purchased also.

I'm a bit surprised this thrift store isn't in the 4.5+ average for reviews. I really love this…read moreplace and I love thrifting. I usually go once a month during their sale to buy. They consistently have good and fun items. I've left with a huge cart full several times. My only issue is that it can get packed in there at times. There's often not enough carts nor enough dressing rooms when it's really busy. It's still not bad but I wish they'd work on getting some more carts donated and maybe find some space for a few more dressing rooms. They are raising money for charity and the people who are working there I believe are mostly volunteers so I don't want to complain too much. I'm sure if I'm overwhelmed by how busy it is, the volunteers and employees must be. I like to drop off things here and there to donate to them as well. That's an easy process here. I'm going to try to snap some photos on my next visit but considering it's a thrift store, it stays pretty clean and fairly well organized even on busy Saturdays and sale days.

They are friendly and serve a good cause by the selling of their merchandise. But I think the location is too large for the amount of merchandise that they have now. It seemed more empty when we walked inside. They're well organized, but the merchandise seemed more outdated whereas some thrift stores have a little bit better quality. Some prices were fine, but then some of the clothing I felt like was overpriced. We ended up buying a little bag of toys that were four dollars, which were reasonable for what was in it and my husband bought two books. I think if they get more merchandise to fill out the space then it won't look so sparse. I feel like they should've stayed in the other space they had.

Great Plains SPCA is a fantastic no-kill animal shelter that quietly provides adoptions of dogs and…read morecats rescued from across the Kansas City metro area. The Johnson County-based member of the big 3 that includes Wayside and KC Pet Project. We found our rescue puppy here and couldn't be happier with the process and location. Very accommodating for visiting with kids with spotless private rooms to socialize. We appreciated the overnight hold option where you pay (donate) a nominal amount to not feel rushed and ensure the whole family could sleep on it before coming back the next day for the homecoming. The shelter is often overshadowed by Wayside Waifs, which also does a great job, however this facility and team are excellent for both dogs and cats. The Merriam location also has a small retail store that you can gear up new adoptions. As you would expect, adoption fees (donations!) are much higher for puppies and kittens than the less cuddly teens and pre-teens. Note: In prior years they offered a veterinary office that was open to the public, but those services are now reserved only for the in-house clientele (ahem - bob barker...). Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays unless you're a dogcatcher

Some of the folks there were helpful but others seemed like they didn't want you to be there. No help in the dog area at all. It's like you are at an outside mall that only allows window shopping. Not a friendly place that would make me want to adopt an animal. I do feel bad for the animals there. I'm hoping they pay more attention to them than the people coming into the shelter to adapt them.
