I love donating and shopping here. They do a lot of good on our community and you can find unexpected treasures.

Much has changed over the years. The Social Service League Thrift store has never been more beautiful and organized. It has high-quality donors and wonderful customers. Customers of all ages are always saying, "this is my favorite store". The store is run by volunteers who work all week with programs for the disadvantaged, and on Saturdays for sales. The volunteers get nothing but good karma and the satisfaction of knowing they are helping people through the programs. Board members, volunteers, employees (when they have them) get no discounts, no first dibs, no advantages over customers. The SSL has been in existence in it's original form since 1863, and in it's current location since the ealry 1900. Note: this is a biased review: I love the place. read more

This is a crowded and kind of smooshed together place. They have some really great prices, but at times it's just a little tough to see everything because it's so crowded and kind of awkward to shop. I'd love to see them have a different location someday where they can spread out a little more. read more

Longer hours than St. John's but it's still easy to miss these guys. Stop by Wed-Fri 9am-4pm, Sat 9am-2pm, hours may vary. Stuff here is super cheap. As a fiend for glassware, this was my haven while looking for unique, inexpensive drinking glasses. Bargain-seekers, costume hunters may love them for their clothing section. Some of the stuff may look a little rough but there are some treasures to be found here as well. read more

Social Services League Thrift store has been a part of my life for over thirty years now. I discovered ay as a student @ KU, as many others did. I (literally) go to Lawrence on weekends to do 2 things. Shop @ Social Services League and eat at Aimee's, that's it. The SSL has always been staffed by wonderful, kind, fun people. It's always been like visiting someplace you've been visiting for years, even after just one visit. In fact, after just one visit, you're kind of hooked. On the whole, maybe not perfect, a little pricier than it used to be (not much) but dedicated to actually helping people who need help. Some other agencies in town that ought to do more, I worry they don't. And yes, they really do help out people who really need it, and I'm happy to spend money my Ducats there. I suppose I'll shop here for the fun, and the friends I have made and continue to see until I can no longer drive myself. Perhaps I'll have to move here. It's only thirty minutes from where I live... That's would be when I get too creaky to drive. Until then, I'll keep commuting one day a a week! read more

As someone who frequented the league almost every day in years past, and still frequents all other thrift stores, I can say this is now, without a doubt, one of the worst thrift stores in Lawrence (rivaling only goodwill). oh how the great have fallen. once the best thrift store in Lawrence, they seem to have begun really vamping up their online resale presence and the quality of items in the stores has significantly decreased while the price has gone up 90% sure the two five star reviews are from current staff / volunteers. expect a message if you leave a one star review read more

I went to the Social Service League Store for the first time today after a local business owner pointed me in the direction for something specific I was looking for. First off, wow was everyone friendly! I felt very welcomed by the man working the donations area around back, as well as the woman working the register. I came in looking for something specific that I collect. I found tons! Where I would normally pay $3-4 each at an antique shop, here I paid $0.50 each! I was so happy! I only had about 10 mins to shop, but in that time I saw several other things I would have liked to take a closer look at. I have a steady income, so shopping at thrift shops isn't a necessity, but a hobby for me because it's where I can find the things I enjoy (vintage fashion pieces, etc). I'm happy to support an organization like this and I'll be bringing items to donate next time I stop in! read more

Definitely my new favorite thrift store in lawrence. everything is super cheap & pretty nice quality stuff. got a pair of levi's jeans for $2 that i could have gotten somewhere else for about $20. the owner is also the sweetest person i've ever met and made me feel very welcome. this store has such cool finds if you keep an open mind. check it out! read more

Arguably one of the best places I've ever shopped. The prices are amazing and the owner Lisa is one of the sweetest people I've met. The entire store has such a good vibe and there's so many cool knick-knacks to look at and buy. I had such an amazing time there with my friends just talking to Lisa, and I would definitely recommend going in there if you have time. read more

The manager of this store was loud, loud, loud. I am a fairly talkative person and even I was thinking, "whoa she needs to calm it down" because she just kept talking at top volume nonstop for the entire time I browsed. She never spoke to me or even said hello, mind you. I usually do not single out annoying staff when I review businesses on Yelp, but this was highly unusual and irritating, and since it was also the store's manager I think it bears mentioning. This kept my visit much shorter than it may have been otherwise. Their charitable mission is the main reason for my three stars. The selection is simply not good and they highly prize their boutique section which is about a quarter of the small store. Among items in the boutique section were extremely worn juniors purses and a "vintage" ripped Starter jacket. As with most thrift stores, I'm sure there are lovely gems to be found here at various times, but I was not very impressed. read more

Since they moved back to their regular location they think they are a boutique. Prices way to high. The Salvation Army is cheaper. Stopped going! This store has no intentions on helping the poor. They can't afford it now. read more
