Banner Health Center: Primary Care Medicine - I was a really nice doctors office. Now it's in asylum for the crazies that work there.

Let me first start by saying I do like my doctor, Dr. Tinsdale I see here, she gives geninuine,…read morequality care. However, the communication here is seriously lacking. I can never get a hold of her medical assistant and when she does call back she calls at a time when I am at work and cannot answer my phone. A message is left. I call back, get the call center and of course, she is not available and does not call back until the next day when I am at work, and the cycle starts all over again. The responses on the portal are not timely or helpful either. It is so hard to get an appointment with your provider as well. I am sill waiting for the results of an x-ray I had over ONE WEEK AGO! Portal message sent regarding the results- NO communication from them about it. Ugh. The only reason I keep going here is because my doctor is good, just the communication sucks!

I used to love Banner but they changed it's more about less time with patient and poor health care…read morequality. For the first time I saw Dr. Matthew Au. I was hopeful going into my first appointment, but unfortunately, I left feeling disappointed. Throughout the visit, I felt like my concerns were dismissed. Each time I tried to explain what was bothering me, the doctor seemed more focused on his computer than on our conversation, often responding with "yeah, yeah, yeah" before I had finished speaking. Instead of addressing the reason I came in, the appointment seemed to shift toward recommendations that were unrelated to my primary concerns. I never felt that my symptoms or questions were fully heard or understood. I believe every patient deserves to feel listened to, respected, and included in decisions about their care. Compassion and attentive communication are just as important as medical knowledge. Unfortunately, that was not my experience during this visit, and I left feeling unheard rather than helped.

I had to return July 2nd, with the same symptoms, with a hot flash, sweating, and nausea…read more I arrived by ambulance, this time, as well. Got into a room in the ED, immediately. They did bloodwork, a CT and an ultrasound. I was waiting to hear the results. A discharge nurse came in, with paperwork to discharge me. The doctor had not even come in to tell me what was wrong, and give me treatment options. I had to demand to talk to the doctor. He told me I had gallstones, but it didn't require immediate surgery. Granted, I already had surgery scheduled for 7/6. The doctor said it could wait, prescribed me pain and nausea meds and told me to follow a low fat diet. His tone, when telling me about the diet, made me feel like he was criticizing my intelligence regarding this. But t, I'd already been doing this one year now, for weight loss. Friday, 7/3, I got in touch with my surgeon. She got me on the schedule that day. The next morning, she said my gallbladder was inflamed. It needed to come out. A doctor should communicate with their patients, giving them all information necessary, so the patient can exercise their right to choose the treatment they want. I wasn't given this, without having to advocate for myself.

Went in March for a hysterectomy. Outpatient doors were closed said to go through the ER. Go to…read morethe ER they make you walk all the way to regular administration who's doors are open with a closer parking lot then the ER. I have a port because I have Multiple Sclerosis and receive my medication monthly by infusion, they refused to use it without an Xray. They also made me pee in a cup to prove I wasn't pregnant...it takes 3 appointments, waiting 30 days and a biopsy that is the most painful thing I've ever experienced in order to get a hysterectomy, who would get pregnant in that small window of time where I took 2 other pregnancy tests AND had an ultrasound. Plus since it was surgery I hadn't drank anything. Super annoying. When I came to the nurse who took care of me was great, very easy going, was prememptive with care like had a heater thing ready for me and water, explained everything, his energy was very good and calming, perfect for what was happening. I chose to stay the night in order to have pain management because left to my own devices I let the pain go too long and it causes problems. My first nurse was Coraline. I had to pee as soon as I got there, I asked her and she asked me to wait 5 minutes. Luckily for me the nurse who does the blood pressure, I think her name was Cheyenne helped me and was super sweet the entire time. Caroline did eventually come back but not in the 5 minutes and didn't remember, she did not seem very experienced. Then later in the evening when she came in I asked to have my water filled and she again said later and that I had gatorade, my mom had gone and bought snacks because Caroline couldn't find a phone for me to order food and she did place the order herself but obviously I'm not going to page the nurse everytime I need something. A very nice man, the one who transported me, saw my mom with the bag found us a phone and apologized that we bought everything he seemed pretty irritated that this wasn't taken care of by the nurse. I didn't get my water refilled until the night shift when the blood pressure guy Chris came in, he was also great. I don't remember my nurses name that night but I really liked her, she was very friendly and competent perfect care after a very long tiring day. Checkout was easy. I just really wish they had used my port because I would've been far more comfortable and that's why it's there. Coraline could also use a little help in making sure patients are comfortable, she's the only one who didn't seem to recognize what was going on.

Dr Stein and the medical staff were great. The admin and their system is where things seem to break…read moredown. They changed my first name to a letter. Literally. They claim they can't list me by my actual first name, because it's abbreviated on my insurance card. My insurance knows it's abbreviated and they have my full legal name. And even if their system is that complicated, there's no preferred name option? Really? So they will refer to me as a single letter instead of my actual name. I've never run into this problem before at a medical provider office and I've been to many using the same insurance card. Imagine being taken back to have a procedure done under anesthesia and the assistant you've never met tries to greet you but doesn't know what to call you because your name is missing on your paperwork, and it's just a letter. Imagine they try to call your driver back after you're done, and they don't know what to announce. Imagine you get texts after your procedure, referring to you as a single letter instead of your first name. That's exactly what happened, and I was really surprised. It's poor customer service. It creates confusion and discomfort when you're already in a vulnerable position. I work at a medical office and I can't imagine treating a patient like that. It's such a basic standard to call people by their name. I let the office know my concern and they said they can't do anything about it. I'll go elsewhere next time.

And got a call from a collection agency and they are trying to collect the amount. Call doctor office back and told them and they said they would have someone investigate it and get back to me. Looks like I might have to file a complaint with the AZ attorney general office that they are trying to extort money from me. My insurance company said that I do not own them anything. Stay away from them unless you want trouble.
