Called for an emergency - my cat swallowed string - they told me to come in and saw my cat even though it was their surgery day, meaning no regular appointments. They gave her medication and spun her around to make her throw up. Soooo thankful that they were able to get the string right away, or else waiting for it to pass through or having to get surgery would've been so stressful. I love Dr. Max and their team!!! This place is nice. The doctor and staff are Russian speakers. They have a genuine concern about the pets' wellbeing. Also renovated. I thought I was going to need surgery for my cat, but all they did was examine the problem area and determined that the only necessary treatment was medicine. I was so relieved. This is a late review from my visit in September of 2015. My dog had 3 consecutive days of diarrhea and since this was the closest animal clinic to me at the time, I brought my pup here. The clinic itself is dated, receptionist was friendly. My dog, normally friendly with vets and other humans, was repulsed and defensive when the doctor touched him, which was a red flag. The reason why I am giving this clinic only a 1 star was because I did not feel that the doctor or the assistant genuinely cared and this is merely a business. I was a worried dog parent at the time, and whatever the doctor said, I went with it. I brought in a stool sample since my dog has had a few days of diarrhea. He examined my pup, and then stated he needed bloodwork drawn. Of course, we all dislike blood drawn and my pup has had blood drawn in the past in other clinics, no issues. However, the doctor struggled to draw blood from my dog and stated he had to be sedated. I wasn't informed that I had to be responsible for the cost of the sedation because they were unable to obtain the blood nor was I informed of the cost of all the tests that were run until after the fact. The bill ended up being over $500. Needless to say, this clinic was more about running a business than actually caring for my pet and I will never return. read more

The woman vet does not know how to handle cats. My cat can be a little feisty, but she's never a ferocious tiger. Instead of calming my cat down, they started grabbing her, wrapped her inside a towel, while the assistant was pretty much chocking her with her hands. My other experience with a different vet was completely opposite. Here the cat was throwing punches, growling like a tiger, while the vet and the assistant were trying to catch her and give her shots. Too much stress for the poor animal. NOT coming back here again, that's for certain. And advice for you, pet owners: IF YOUR PET IS STRESSED, AND THE VET CAN'T HANDLE IT, LEAVE THE PLACE RIGHT AWAY. read more

I was surprised by all the positive reviews, because when I took my cat there myself, I had the worst experience I have ever had at a vet! I could go on and on, but some things that really bothered me were despite the sign on the door indicating dogs must be leashed, one of the vet's "office dogs" was loose and scared my already-nervous cat. When I was called back, the vets were very unfriendly and condescending, asking me things over and over as if they didn't believe I was telling the truth, despite having all my paperwork. They were not kind to my cat at all and were constantly interrupting me when I was explaining his situation. The vets would talk to each other quietly WHILE I was speaking to them! They simply seemed to not care at all, not allowing me to finish explaining my cat's unique situation. Never bringing one of my animals back there. Brought my kitten here for her final booster & rabies shots. I had a 12:00 appt, got there on time, but the wait was well over an hour. My guess is Saturday is their busiest day (like any other clinic/vet). Treatment took less than a half hour though. I brought my kitty in and the daughter of this father/daughter operation was the one who treated her. My kitten was a bit apprehensive but the vet & her assistant were extremely gentle with her. Yes, the assistant had to hold her down, but it was in a very calm way, unlike the choking described by another reviewer. My kitten shuffled a little, but as they cooed and petted her a little, she relented. The Dr. had to dig in her ears to treat ear mites, and of course for a cat that's unnerving but she came through it just fine- no scratching, clawing, hissing, meowing or anything. I gave my kitten a little treat when she was done and when we got home she was right back to being her playful, frisky self. She wasn't stressed out at all. So judging by that, I'd say they did a great job, and I'm happy to take my cat back there again. I trust them. My only put-off is the wait time when I actually HAD an appointment. read more

They saved my cats life ! I had taken my cat to my old vet 3 times saying that she just wasn't her self The old vet told me she was fine over and over but I knew there was something very wrong. A lady I met on the bus told me about Kings Bay Veterinary she told me how wonderful Dr O was with her cat and that his daughter was just as good. It turned out that my cat had a very bad tooth infection and that she had heart damage from it. Dr O did everything right and they were all so extra sweet with her. She is great now and her heart is improving. I have taken our other kitty to both Dr's O and all I can say is they are both wonderful. staff is very nice and what other vet gives you their cell number in case of an emergency. I just brought in my new dog and he found out that she had Lung Worms 1st case he ever saw . I had gotten a clean bill of health on her two weeks before from a Naples FL Vet. They didn't catch it and they have lung worms in the south. Dr O said he had never seen a single case here. Yet he caught it thus now saving her life too. What more can I say. Please don't be fooled by Dr. Osterman's quiet demeanor. I too once thought highly of this man of few words, until his gross negligence most likely resulted in the untimely death of my dog. I soon found out that the almighty dollar is what was most important to Osterman. Had I the same monetary means as both he and his uppity partner/daughter (she should have studied bedside manners instead of veterinary medicine), I would have fully pursued a malpractice lawsuit. I have had pets (dogs) all my life and have gone to many veterinarians & they (Dr. Ed Osterman) have treated my pets & my family's pets since 1970.They are available for emergency treatment as well as routine care. I find their fees very reasonable for the high quality of care they give (you get what you pay for, as the saying goes). If there anything more difficult about pet ownership it's deciding when to take your pet to the vet and be at the mercy of high priced procedures and tests. Then you thank your lucky stars when you find a place like Kings Bay Vet because there you find out that the staff are upfront about costs and passionate about their work. One day I noticed that my kitty had a brown colored tooth and it didn't seem right for her young age of 4 years. I looked up a lot of information and was sure she had a cat cavity. Turns out I was right which meant she needed it to be extracted. Ugh! How much would this cost me? Well, a lot! However, it was an investment I wanted to make because I know that she will be better off later on. Dr. Osterman with his gentleness and professionalism agreed to do the procedure as soon as her blood-work was complete and OK (which took about 20 minutes to find out). Minou, my kitty girl, was back home by the afternoon and recovered remarkably fast! She licked her fur clean just six hours after the extraction surgery. I am 100% satisfied with my experience and I would like to encourage anyone who has the slightest doubts or apprehension about vets as me, to see for yourself what high quality service is available to you at Kings Bay Veterinary Hospital. And my final note, I appreciated the 2 phone calls I received from Dr. Osterman who checked on Minou's progress with a sense of care that made me feel like Minou was more of a human than a cat. read more

I switched to Kings Bay Veterinary last year from a different Brooklyn vet, after hearing good things about them. Since then, I have brought two of my three cats there, and have found both Dr. Carrie and Dr. Edward Osterman to be gentle, caring, cautious, thorough, and pleasant to deal with. Yvette, the Office Manager, is also thoroughly professional and very accomodating. I must agree with another reviewer here: I didn't see anyone 'choke' or roughly grab either of my animals, and my male cat can sometimes be a little antsy because of his health issues. If anything, the techs are very gentle, holding the animals firmly and massaging them to soothe and calm them. While the procedures are not inexpensive (what is, nowadays!), bloodwork and metabolic panels are done right on the premises in state-of-art machinery; so it's worth the wait. The added expense can be negligible, if it means the welfare of your beloved pets, as it does to me. They will give you an estimate for anything above and beyond a regular examination. Saturdays are their busiest day, and they do not perform any operating procedures then; those are scheduled during the week, so I will be going there during my vacation for anything crucial. In closing, I have to say that I walk out of there feeling satisfied, and so do my animals. read more
