I have to repost because of my mispelling of Doctor's name. Yakov Sheynberg, D. V. M. Is wonderful. My forever friend Ginger was limping so I brought her in for an examination. I was prepared to have X-rays, possibly wrap her paw and planning for surgery. I was so happy that after an examination and testing her reflexes that none of my thoughts came to light. Ginger was given a non-steroid injection and some anti-inflammatory medication to take at home. I noticed a difference in a few days, now a week after she's back to dancing for her food. After our cat developed an abscess from a bite, the Sheepshead Bay Veterinary Clinic was the place we went for a second opinion and surgery to clear the pus. We were told the surgery was a success and we could pick him up. At the time of pick-up, Dr. Goloumenko said that during examination he found a serious condition in our cat called 'Hydronephrosis'. He said that the left kidney was dead and completely non-functional, that it was full of water and could burst at any moment, and that it needed to be removed immediately. We were very surprised, cause our seven year old cat didn't have any symptoms of kidney disease, and we couldn't understand why the doctor was so adamant about a risky operation on short notice. We departed the office with an estimated bill for the operation (more than $4k). Meanwhile, research revealed that before such an operation, there were 4-5 tests that needed to be done to confirm the diagnosis. In other words, we had no evidence of the need for this operation other than Dr.Goloumenko's word. On the follow-up visit, Dr.Goloumenko was again very pushy about the kidney operation, he wasn't exactly thrilled that we wanted more tests to be performed before agreeing. At the beginning of that conversation, he had said our cat's wound was healing well, but when he realized we weren't willing to agree to the operation, he said that pus was still in the wound, the antibiotic wasn't working (our cat had already received an antibiotic injection that was supposed to be in his body for 14 days), and he gave him an additional one (again, without running any new tests to see what was actually needed). After starting this new course of antibiotic, our beautiful cat unexpectedly died in a few days, right there in the vet's office. Make of that what you will. But the doctor's pushiness about an expensive operation without being willing to run the necessary diagnostic tests is a fact. read more

This is an overdue review, as we had 2 foster dogs here last spring and summer. The first (an Anatolian Shepherd and Great Pyreness mix) had a nasty cut on his front paw that Dr. Ury gave us a second opinion on. His treatment actually helped the pup. Our second dog (a German Shepherd mix) saw Dr. Yakov a few times. Right on the spot the team was able to do x-rays for the pup's legs and determined growing pains and arthritis. We felt this vet's office was caring and prices affordable. So much so that when we adopted one of the dogs we kept coming back here for care. read more

My cat might have a possible obstruction and need emergency surgery that this vet could of performed but I could hear her through the door saying "I don't know what to tell THIS LADY it's Friday I want to go home" And then came into the room and told my cat needs an ultrasound and possible surgery (she could of performed both or at least the ultrasound) but sent me off to go find a animal hospital with little recommendation. How dare you speak like this about my situation when I could clearly hear you in the other room. They don't care about your pets life here. I wasted $550 for her to tell me to go find help elsewhere. I do not know from which university these "doctors" graduated from, but if I did not get the correct opinion from another office, our dog would be dead. Our dog with an enlarged heart was prescribed steroids at Sheepshead Bay Veterinary Group. When I took the dog to the VERG Brooklyn, a highly professional Doctor explained that it was Extremely Important to Avoid the Steroids as this medication can cause serious complications and side effects, perhaps leading to the Fatal End. In addition, during an emergency visit at Sheepshead Bay Veterinary Group I was promised that the dog will be provided with an oxygen tank in order to stabilize the medical conditions as he had difficulty breathing that day. However, oxygen was not provided. In fact, when I asked the receptionist to show me the actual oxygen tank, she refused to show it to me. Meaning, for two hours they kept our dog in their office, he was not provided with oxygen, nor proper medical care. They simply kept the dog for two hours in a regular small cage with water. Good thing after that horrible visit we rushed to the VERG Brooklyn where our dog immediately was placed in a professional oxygen tank and received highly professional medical care. Our dog is doing much better now, and in my opinion the licenses belonging to "doctors" from Sheepshead Bay Veterinary Group shall be suspended. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIC CLINIC!!!! The doctor said it's ok to spray/neuter cats whenever which is not true you can only spray/ neuter cats after they turn 6 months!! Also because my cat didn't receive a proper medical treatment on time SHE ALMOST DIED! I noticed her not being able to pee anymore, I wasted the way too much time on giving her antidepressants, the doctor was supposed to get her urine checked. I come to this vet for both pup and kitty needs. For my cat who had a recurring benign polyp that would grow and affect his breathing, they did a surgery that made sure it wouldn't come back and he's been great for years now. My new puppy, Luna, it made sense to bring her here. They don't push services on you or things you don't need. The vet techs are very friendly and the vet takes time to talk to you. They answered all my questions and were great on educating me on a new puppy. Prices are reasonable and they break it down for you. Overall, a great vet to bring your furry friends. They could be a little more clean, the scale and bench looked a little dirty but otherwise they are a stellar place to bring them. read more

I would highly recommend Dr. Moreno and the entire staff at SBVG. They are professional, efficient, friendly, courteous .... and very loving/caring/sensitive to my pets. My darling street kitten Kali has been to the clinic four times in the past year ..... twice for her initial checkup and shots, once for her wellness check prior to being spayed, and then for her spaying on March 17th, 2023 when she was 1-year-old (approximately). I was so pleased with my interactions with Dr. Moreno and the way she cares for my cat that I have made all four appointments on days when she was present. My cat is doing very well after her spaying as I told the clinic when they made a follow-up call the day after surgery. I previously had a problem with my older cat Shiva and Dr. Moreno was again the attending vet. She ran all the necessary tests to check out Shiva's condition and I was very relieved to discover that all was well and he was just having a bad week or so. He too is fine and that was over a year ago. Once again, I would highly recommend SBVG in general and Dr. Moreno in particular. I was going to a vet for 30 years. I had an emergency with 1 of my 6 pekingese dogs. (They are my life. ) It was a holiday and he was on vacation. I had passed this place on Avenue U, and saw they were crowded and went in. I made an appointment for my Ollie and we went that day. It was a great examination and the Vet was a living doll, explaining everything to me. Everyone in the office was well mannered and sweet. We left with medication and a special diet and he started feeling better. Everyday, for a week they called to see how he was doing. A week later , Ollie had a grand mal seizure. It was a long one and I needed to speak to someone. The Vet , Dr T said I should get him to the ER right away. He was really bad and I knew I had to decide that blood transfusions would only be a band-aide for a few days. I knew that I had to be grateful for the extra 5 days I had with Ollie after our visit to S.B.V.G . Ollie crossed the rainbow bridge that day. Dr T called the next day to wish me his condolences. I had never gotten a call from my other vet asking about my babies and how they were doing. I now have a new place to take my babies for their care. Today , I received a lovely condolence card from the entire staff. This had me in tears. They are truly angels there. Especially when I was in so much pain, losing my Ollie boy.. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET TAKE THEM ANYWHERE ELSE. My dog saw Dr. Shyneberg who is the most negligent veterinarian I have ever been to, and his actions almost resulted in my dog's death. I took my dog there after he got attacked by another dog. It was just around the closing time, but they still agreed to see me I wish they had not. The vet (who had his mask on but pulled under his nose) looked my dog over for less then a minute and declared he didn't see anything. I pointed out to him that I had blood on my hands so clearly there was an injury, and that perhaps my dog's thick dark fur was making it difficult to see. He was incredibly dismissive and could not be bothered to look more carefully. He just gave my dog a shot of steroidal anti-inflammatory, me a little bottle of diluted iodine to clean the wound, and they sent me on my way. They were so much on their way out of the door that they did not charge me. I would have happily paid any amount for a real exam from a competent vet who actually cares about animals. They were terrible to agree to see my dog and then not care about actually treating him. My dog spent the whole night vomiting, which is apparently as side effect of the shot that they did not warn me about. I cleaned the wound as instructed and it continued to worsen. I was finally able to get my dog into to see a real vet today, and they told me that the bite wound had become extremely infected and turned into a deep abscess. He will now need to be fully sedated and have surgery. This ended up costing nearly $1000 to get deep abscesses drained and stitches. The real vet I spoke to was shocked by the negligence of this office and the fact that they didn't even prescribe antibiotics or pain medication. She said the injury is only severe now because of the entirely preventable infection and lack of a thorough initial exam. I spoke to a second vet that said the steroidal anti-inflammatory shot is an outdated way of treating dog bites, and that antibiotics should have been prescribed. If you care about your animal, DO NOT take them to this vet. If the owner of the dog that attacked mine was not paying, I would absolutely be pursuing legal action. read more

I have been taking my yorkie here since practically birth to Dr Sheynberg who is great ! 14 years ! The other new staff not so much - I recently had an appt with Dr.Moreno for my new puppy's vaccinations. I waited for about 1 hr to be seen and she was barely in the room literally 5 full minutes tops , if even that - between leaving and coming back. Didn't stamp my puppy's vaccine passport - front desk almost forgot to give me the rabies tag- I had to ask for both ! She didn't check his ears after treating him for a slight ear infection two weeks prior. I could barely ask a question and she was out of the room and nowhere to be seen. This was the MOST RIDICULOUS thing I have ever seen ! We pay a visit fee for a reason on top of all the other add ons. [ $180-$350 ] min each visit. The place is DIRTY - the rooms are not properly cleaned or sanitized between animals. I literally watched a flea land on my puppy's nose in the seating area and I was outraged ! I couldn't believe what I was seeing ! I told the staff - who did not care ! The front desk receptionist said " why didn't you keep it to show it to us " I am sorry , but what ? keep the flea ? No. I plucked it off my dog immediately. I mentioned this to the doctor and she said " well this is a vet office - what do you expect". What I expect is a good clean environment for my pet. The last thing I would ever want is my 3 month old puppy to get fleas from your office before completing his rabies vaccination ! ! ! Looking over the reviews here - it is clear I am not the only one who notices the many issues here ! Dr Sheynberg - All of these people can't be wrong ! Do Better ! Been going there last couple years and my Vet. Sheynberg who's I like. Loves animal, practical. I really didn't pay attention to staff. Usually called the office and was on hold for while, which I didn't mind, but then had to make appointment as an emergency on Sunday with another vet. Scheduled for 2:00pm. Left pretty early to get there, but that day everyone in their mother decided yo come out since weather was so nice. Police blocked off so many streets, so I called the office and told them I was running a little late. I got there at 2:07pm. Sitting in waiting room and then I see that they calling in a patient that came after me after looking at my chart. Asked receptionist about it and she didn't know. Trying to tell me that they were filling up room according to the doctor. Then I was skipped over again and receptionist asked guy named Danny why I was being skipped over and he told her that because I was late they were skipping me. If this was the case they should have said something. Why would a tech make that kind of decision? I returned abs complained to Dr. Sheynberg snd a email couple days later trying yo tell me that there was other people scheduled at same time slot. Email did not have any attachments. We had a certificate for a free exam from the shelter that included this local vet so we brought our newly adopted kitty here today for a checkup. Overall we were very pleased with the experience. Space is clean and well-kept, the front desk staff was friendly and helpful despite it being rather busy. Dr. Olga was wonderful with our cat and she's very personable.
