I came here back in April due to my dog suddenly having a weird cough. They were able to see me that day, but we waited for 4 hours just to be seen and then even longer to discuss what needed to be done. I was given medicine for her heart murmur. She seemed to be getting worse that night and I called the office. They said the doctor would call me that night. I never received a call. My pup ended up passing the next morning shortly after midnight. I received the follow up call around 8:30 am that I was supposed to receive the night before. Unfortunately it was too late. I've since called 3 separate times to speak to the manager to see if the money I spent for the medicine could be refunded since I didn't use any of it since she passed away so quickly. I still have not received a call back 2 months later. It also took an email and several calls to get her medical records send to me. read more

I took my pet two weeks ago for having very bad allergies in between his feet and face honestly was very paranoid because they constantly open up of how much he would scratch. Thankfully I called to this veterinary and called the same day and where able to see him the same day which honestly surprised me cause other places make you wait at least 2-3 days for an appointment. Yeah find another place. This vet needs to rethink how they are approaching treatment with Covid precautions. In the winter time curbside is understandable, but when the temperature outside is 90 degrees + it is absolutely ridiculous to have people waiting in their vehicles for over an hour with their sick pets. They are quick to take your payment info though. Just know by the time they see your pet, they'll be adding heat stroke to the bill in addition to whatever reason you actually brought your pet in for. Also, don't understand why they are still doing curbside when their staff don't even wear masks. What's the point of half assing cdc guidelines? read more

I really like this Vet. I went in today to take a stray kitty I had rescued a few weeks ago that needed to get checked out for seizures. Come to find out she's pregnant. The Vet actually took her time to check her out and she was so so so gentle with her which I feel most vets aren't . You could tell she really loves animals. The last vet I went to unfortunately wasn't any help so they advised we go elsewhere to have her sedated since she's a feisty little grumpy kitty. This seems to be another example of a modern business that stays busy enough that they think they can ignore customer service without hurting profits. They do not take adequate care of their clients. There aren't a lot of vets in this area so they will likely continue to get away with it. It's a shame that they aren't more community-minded because Avondale really is a lovely place to live, no thanks to businesses like this. I use an online pet pharmacy and Desert Ark has NEVER, not once, returned their call to confirm prescriptions. I always have to follow-up myself. Every. Single. Time. Every time my dear Molly needs a prescription refill it turns into a two-week affair due to Desert Ark not doing their part in confirming the prescription. I will be riding out the remainder of this prescription and then seeking another vet. It's worth it to drive farther than to deal with the shoddy service of my local vet. Oh, and by the way, appointment times don't matter much in the Desert Ark waiting room. You can expect to wait at least 30-60 minutes past your appointment time. read more

I called urgent to take my cat in. They said it would be a couple of hours wait so I went ahead and went in. They took my cat and accessed she could wait, so we waited. After being there for one hour a patient finally came out of one of the exam rooms. They had obviously been there way before I got there. So after 2 hours I went to the desk and was told that there were still many people waiting ahead of me. Come to find out, they wait outside in their cars so you think that you are next. She said it would be another couple of hours. She said I could come in the next day at 8:00 am because there would be two doctors and the wait would not be as long. Needless to say, I left. Unless your animal is bleeding to death or cant's breathe, you are in for a long wait at this office. DON'T GO THERE! I have been going here for a little bit under a year and I have been nothing but disappointed every single time. I call them with questions about my cat who recently had surgery and they tell me they can not answer my questions over the phone but they had done it before. One time my boyfriend and I went in because one of our cats had diarrhea for days and they had us wait in our car in the arizona weather for 6 hours because " our cats problem wasn't as important as everyone else's ". I took my senior cat here about a year ago, and the experience was so painful that I still feel the need to warn others about this place. NEVER go here. The humane society will be far cheaper and care more about your pets. When I took my cat here, the tech stuck her hands in my cats mouth without gloves on when I told her it was drooling and it looked like it maybe had puss in it, thought it could have a bad tooth. Then I heard her making fun of my cat to her coworkers and making jokes about the other pets in the clinic too. I should have walked out and refused to pay, but I was so worried about my cat that I stayed to talk to the dr, who was equally not helpful, did not emphasize bloodwork and said it had a bad tooth. I took it to another vet who let me know that I should do bloodwork considering its age, so we did. It had liver failure and died 5 days later. My experience at Desert Ark was so agonizing and infuriating that I would sue them if I had the money. NEVER GO THERE read more

I came in for an emergency visit for my very sick dog. The girl behind the counter was as cold as anyone could be. She was very short and not compassionate at all. I was very upset and I was told to go sit in my car and felt very unwelcome. It took over a couple hours to be seen and It felt like others were being taken before me because I asked not to wear a mask for health reasons. For that I would give a one star however once seen by the doctor she made everything better. I cannot say enough about the staff that cares for the animals. The tech and doctor were outstanding and I couldn't be happier with them. I ended up having to put my baby to sleep and my entire family was welcome to join in the passing of our fur baby. I have very mixed emotions and would suggest to the owners to put in some more training to the intake staff. Disgusting experience, paid a welcome thingy fee for $120 plus other costs they will charge customers up to a total of $1,500 if you say yes to every thing they lists on the treatment even if its not necessary for your pet. Of course they would while the customer is at its vulnerable and emotional state hoping their beloved pet will be saved in the hands of these veterinarians. Also, the wait outside took 4 and 1/2 hours under the heat and I have no idea what procedure they are doing with my pet. The payment receipt did not itemize nor indicate the treatment only the cost. The bloodwork value and all did not show results either. We went home and unfortunately, my little dog passed away after 2 days under their treatment. Experience is bad with this vet clinic and will never go this route again. read more

Lets see where do I begin. We took our newly adopted pug to desert ark solely because they were the only vet that could get him in ASAP for his next set of shots. Upon reading reviews my fiancé and I were skeptical but I like to give businesses the benefit of the doubt, unfortunately it feels like the negative reviews had merit. when we took him in for his first exam, he had the typical stuff a two month old puppy would have wrong with him, he had round worm, tapeworm and when they did a skin scrape test apparently had ringworm. well after paying for the exam fees, multiple fecal tests and some medication that was suppose to help his ringworm, it made his skin worse to where he looked like he and mange from scratching so much, and then having to get a refill before they even got the results from the second skin scrape test (note: the first exam where they supposedly diagnosed the ringworm took literally 5 min where the checkup skin scrape took a couple of days to find it negative). After going through all this and again having to pay for another fecal test which they sat on till I called to find out the results, they told me I haven't paid for it yet and I guess they were never going to tell me until I asked? my fiancé got a text from the dr stating it came back negative and he was healthy. Well upset from the quickly diminishing service I went to get a second opinion from another practice and not only did he not have ringworm to begin with he never had it. And to top it all off, four days after he got his "clean bill of health" text for his intestinal worms, we took him to my nieces who babysat him for us while we attended a wedding, his first bowel movement had soooo much tapeworm in him it looked like he swallowed a whole bag of fettuccini noodles whole. My niece graciously took him to her vet who not only gave him one pill (which he didn't have to take constantly for two weeks) they only charged her 60.00 for the exam and the treatment (both times I went in to desert ark my bill is no less that 150.00) her vet even told her best case is they were unhatched larvae but even a standard tech who been through school should know how to spot parasite eggs. So to summarize the issues I have with this vet. two exams totaling over 600.00 to not get my pet clear of worms but told he was. misdiagnosed his ringworm. sent us to get a prescription we had to pay for in advance before we even had a negative diagnoses for a parasite he didn't even have. had to pay for a shampoo and mousse that was suppose to help with his itching but made him worse. one tech would come in and give us an estimate for a bill, the either another would come in with a different estimate or it would be different at the front desk. 175.00 exam to another vet just to get my puppy's skin condition properly diagnosed and treated. 60.00 exam fee to Another vet in Tempe to get his intestinal worms finally treated. needless to say I won't be recommending anyone here and one step away from submitting a complaint with the BBB. read more

I moved from California in January and was in search for a vet a couple of months later because my Australian cattle dog Obi wasn't feeling very well. Turned out my poor baby had pancreatitis The staff at Deserk Ark was super knowledgeable and they were so sweet to Obi I absolutely LOVE the follow up calls to check on their patients! The staff was nice, but communication seems so-so. We went in thinking we were only getting our next round of puppy shots but ended up being charged an extra $70 for an exam. We thought the bill was a little high but assumed it was because of the extra shot and medication she received, but it turned out that they charged us for an exam without mentioning it at any point. They knew that she was a new patient when we called to schedule the appointment, so I don't know why they didn't mention at the time that they are required to do an exam. We wouldn't have been upset about it if someone had told us. They had plenty of chances to say something because we were asked why she was there several times and we always told them it was just for shots. Otherwise they seem nice, just make sure you ask for a copy of the bill/charges before they charge you. Update: They will literally get every last penny from you if they can. We've learned our lesson: sometimes you just have to skip on convenience and go to a vet that's a little further away and won't find every possible way to charge you. read more

We left our dogs here for a week while we were away on vacation. We had a great experience, and our dogs loved it. We received pictures of our dogs playing outside which our kids loved. Dr. Velez made sure that our dogs were up to date on all of their vaccinations. It was clear to see that she loves animals! This place has been such a blessing when it comes to emergencies. We brought our 8 wk old puppy for an eye injury. He was triaged right away and made as comfortable as possible. The staff kept checking on us while we waited for a Vet to be available. The staff and techs are really nice and empathetic. Our Vet was very knowledgeable and patient, really took the time to ask questions and made sure we understood the treatment plan. Just as a note that since this is an urgent care, there can be a long wait times ( we were here for 5 hours total, from the time we checked in to the time we checked out) but the staff made it as painless as possible and you can tell they were really working hard to get people in and out as fast as possible. read more

I started taking my 9 week old Golden here and have been amazed ever since. From the very first visit all of the staff from the front desk to Dr. Young was incredibly friendly and attentive. I enrolled in their Gold puppy package and have not regretted it one bit! In one visit of puppy shots the cost was more then my monthly bill that covers most puppy shots and more! Plus, in my previous experience at other vet hospitals the staff seemed very distant. Here, my Golden gets excited to see Dr. Young every visit! Such an expensive disappointment. Please consider a different Vet for you fur baby. My experience: On May 5th I brought my dog Elvis in for excessive diarrhea.  I was greeted in the parking lot by the front office staff who was super friendly.  A vet tech came out a while later to discuss history.  I explained to him what was happening. He took my dog into the office @3:00 ( I wasn't permitted due to health reasons (Covid).  At 3:07, I received a call from the doctor who explained Elvis looked good for his age and he recommended a Geriatric Panel that was in excess of $400.  Option B was bloodwork for approx. $250 that could reveal some of what was bothering him.  He prescribed an antibiotic, probiotic and nausea medicine.  My dog was not suffering from nausea, not throwing up.  When I asked the doctor about that he explained he misunderstood and withdrew the nausea meds.  He explained the results would be back in a couple days but figured due to Elvis' age (18) it was likely his organs could be shutting down however he again said, he looked great.   At 3:30 the Vet Tech returned Elvis to me and before I could leave the parking lot the phone was ringing(@3:35).  It was the vet.  Said Elvis blood work results were in.  I voiced my surprise about how quickly that was and he hurriedly told me he had an emergency and needed to get back with me.   On May 6th, I received a message on my voicemail @7:48 pm inquiring about how Elvis was feeling.  On May 7th I called back at 1:46 pm to explain he wasn't great but the diarrhea had stopped.  I asked about the test results and was told that the doctor would have to get back with me. On May 11th @ 2:25 pm, I received a call saying that day of the blood draw (May 5) they were out of Thyroid tester and that since I'd paid for it, I needed to bring Elvis back in for another draw.  I came into the office May 13th and they took blood. I never received another call from the office until May 22nd @5:47pm.  That was 17 minutes after my appt began with the Vet I had taken him to in California.  The same one that called this office to get his record.  I was sitting in my car saying goodbye to my dog as that vet had determined in less than 17 minutes that that my dog's colon and intestines had very large masses.  She was in shock that this office had not checked his belly or his colon due to the reasons I'd told you that I'd brought him in. She told me my dog was in pain.  That my dog had been suffering.   This office did NOTHING but charge me $378.98 for absolutely NOTHING.  Whatever time spent with my dog which they call an office visit was not provided to him.  The meds they gave him don't treat colon or intestine masses.  The probiotic was the only thing I could get in him but I cant imagine that made a difference either.  The bloodwork I NEVER got an answer to.  I don't want an answer now.  He's gone. I asked the office in writing for a refund and never heard a word. Not too surprised since they treated my dog as though he didnt matter either. read more

The gal that works up front is AWESOME! Very pleasant and friendly. The tech to the Dr were outstanding. This was our first time there. our baby girl was not feeling very well due to UTI symptoms. We were a walk in didn't wait no more than 20 minutes to get to the back. Every procedure done was explained to us in detail. I went to Desert Ark because we had taken our little guy there for an eye problem before and it was great. This time 4 different doctors, lost fecal sample and not told, 3 test later and $1600 and no real answer. 3 weeks to get here and I had to force feed him to make it through to see if he could be saved. So many road blocks along the way with medicines and prescrition dog food. He had already lost 2lbs of his 8lb frame and losing more by the day, there was not a choice to not put him down he was so weak and still really no final answer. It was suggested that it was bad but then he needed to go and get an ultra sound and then internist with 2 to 6 week wait. Really? $125 more than any other vet to put him down. I took him to Aqua FIA and immediately Dr Harris could feel lumps all in his lower stomach. Not once was he checked like this at Desert Ark. He was pretty sure it could be cancer, but not good and it validated us in our decision. It was just really sad it took so long for the little fur baby to get peace. It was like it was all about the money at Desert Ark. At least this is how it felt for me. read more

Initially this vet did great for my pets and I, and as I write this, I want to specify that my problems are (I assume entirely) with the front staff and general staff of the hospital, not with the vets themselves. I have an elderly cat with a ton of medical problems that I have been taking to Desert Ark after finding it a closer, more affordable alternative to the University vet we have been seeing. 1k more later, a ton of visits with multiple members of my family, and i'm finding that this clinic has dropped the ball on me too many times to be redeemable. The big issue is ordering medication. My cat requires expensive medication that is not kept in house and has to be ordered and delivered to their clinic for me to pick up. I understand delivery, etc. is out of their control. However, the last time I ordered the medication, I was told it would be there within 2 weeks. I called after 2 weeks and was told that no one ordered it. Basically everyone forgot. This most recent time I ordered his medication - three weeks ago - I even received a call back from someone at the front desk, REAFFIRMING that they ordered it and would let me know as soon as it came in. No one had confirmed this the first time around and so I was grateful for the reassurance. 3 weeks passed. His medicine dwindled. No call. The day before he ran out entirely, I called them, wondering if maybe someone forgot to give me a call. I was told at that point by the staff at the clinic that they "attempted to order it but could not find it through any of our vendors" and so basically just refused to let me know. I don't know how long ago they "attempted" to order it. The day they told me they did, or maybe once I finally called to see where the hell it was. But basically no one let me know and I thought we were set to pick it up. Now this isn't an unimportant medication. This is something my 16 year old cat needs for his failing pancreas to convert the calories he intakes in his meals, into fat. He cannot produce those enzymes on his own. Without them, he basically starves. The vet knows this. The Vet staff knows this. They just don't care. Today is his fourth day without his medication thanks to this clinic and their negligence. The cherry ontop of the cake: The woman I talked to just referred me to Chewy.com for the meds, so I made an order. I heard from Chewy.com today that that JUST received approval from the vet to ship out the meds, despite requesting it last week. So basically they sat on the order for days. Insanity. The vets themselves did great to help my elderly pets in times of need, but the front staff / ordering staff / whatever staff is why I can't come back. read more

They came out to the car, took him inside alone, called me on the phone with diagnosis and treatment options performed his treatment, filled his meds and then returned him to me. I took my dog to Desert Ark 14 days ago and i am still waiting for a call from a vet to tell me the results of an xray that i was told would take 5 to 7 days. Now I find out that the xray has been sitting in their office for 3 days. I was told that there is was a dely in getting the xray back but now this is on them, they have had it for 3 days.
