Absolute horrible experience. We brought our very sick 15-year-old Yorkie in Friday night around 1:00 a.m. When we arrived, they took him to the back and told us they'd update us. After waiting about an hour, we were told he was on oxygen to help him breathe and that the vet would be with us shortly. Another 30 minutes later, the vet came in and asked the same questions we had already answered on the intake form and with the vet tech. The vet then told us they "didn't know what was wrong," but they could keep him for 24 hours and run tests that may or may not help. We were quoted $4,900. We asked about euthanasia because it was clear to us he was actively dying and suffering. Instead of guidance or compassion, the entire interaction felt focused on expensive testing rather than our dog's comfort and welfare. Regardless they charged us $200 for the visit, $200 to administer $100 worth of medication and oxygen. What a rip off! We took him home and went to our regular vet first thing in the morning. They immediately assessed him and told us the kindest thing was to keep him comfortable because he was in pain and suffering. He was humanely euthanized about 10 minutes later. I would never bring an animal here again. The lack of empathy, poor communication, and the push toward a very costly "maybe" plan in a crisis was unacceptable. When families are saying goodbye, compassion should come first. Do better. read more

I called this clinic while trying to find an internal medicine specialist for our very sick dog. I explained that we were worried about making her endure a long car ride because of the condition she's in and was simply trying to see if there were any closer options. Or if they had any referrals of other clinics we knew since the only one they have is 40+ min away. The receptionist's response was, "Well obviously there's not going to be a spot right next door, so you're going to have to drive." I understand that specialty care often requires travel, and that wasn't the issue. What was disappointing was the lack of compassion and professionalism. When someone calls worried about a beloved pet, they deserve empathy--not a dismissive and condescending response. A little kindness goes a long way, especially during an already stressful situation. Well, my first experience at Blue Pearl was a good one. We were getting ready to board our dogs and head to the airport. I sat by bags by the back door and tended to other business. When I came back into the room, my mini Doxie had gotten into some of my medication. The childproof lid was no match for the dog. There were destroyed capsules everywhere. My regular vet was not open yet, so I called Blue Pearl, to find that there was no wait. I rushed my dog down, where the staff patiently and thoroughly asked about the incident. They took him in quickly and began monitoring Buddy's vitals. I was then asked to call poison control, who would advise the doctors about the effects and lethal dose of medication. After questioning me, poison control contacted the doctor to advise them about treatment options. The doctor induced vomiting and found granuals of medication in his stomach. They gave him fluids and monitored him throughout the day. The doctor thoroughly explained everything that he had done and reassured us that things looked good. That was a relief. In the end, little Buddy came through it just fine. I even received a refund of several hundred dollars when we checked out. To me, this meant that this clinic is on the up-and-up with its customers. And even if my experience were not as great as it was, I am thankful to have a 24-hour animal hospital near by. I was fortunate to have both the hospital and a great experience. read more

I would never take my dog to this place. They are heartless. My dog was lost all day Saturday and has a chip. The young lady that found my dog Saturday evening took the dog to this Avondale location to have a check for a chip and they told her it didn't matter, she should just have her put down because she was old. How dare them say they would just put my dog down because she's old. They didn't even take the time to check her for a chip. The young lady hurried up and left out of there so they wouldn't take her and kill her. Yesterday morning on Christmas Day, I woke up to my dog experiencing continuous vomiting and severe bloody diarrhea throughout our home. He was lethargic, weak, shaking and clearly in distress. Fearing a life threatening emergency, we immediately rushed him to BluePearl at approximately 8:30 AM. Although we were informed that he was considered stable, he remained kenneled for nearly six hours with no testing, no fluids, no medication and no treatment of any kind despite visible dehydration, shaking, bloody stool and repeated vomiting. During the initial consultation, the veterinarian acknowledged that my dog was severely dehydrated. When we were finally brought into a room after six hours, we were told that no diagnostics had been started. The veterinarian recommended parvo testing, bloodwork and X rays. We requested to proceed with one test at a time, explaining that if the parvo test returned positive, additional testing would not be necessary per the doctor's own guidance. At the front desk, we were met with an extremely aggressive and unprofessional response. The staff member insisted we pay for all diagnostics upfront and stated they could refund us later which we declined. After that, her demeanor became dismissive and hostile. When I later inquired whether my dog had access to water or IV fluids knowing he was severely dehydrated and still actively sick, this same staff member stated well I do not know if he got fluids or water because they are only paying for one thing at a time in a snarky and inappropriate manner. This strongly suggested that his care was being influenced by payment choices rather than medical necessity. We were then informed that he had been kenneled for over ten hours without water, IV fluids or bathroom breaks while still vomiting and passing bloody stool. After several more hours, the veterinarian informed us that his levels were mostly normal but that his white and red blood cell counts were abnormal due to stress and illness. We were initially told we would be discharged with antibiotics for a possible bacterial infection. Only five minutes later, the veterinarian returned stating that after consulting another doctor, my dog actually needed immediate hospitalization for forty eight hours and could potentially die due to Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis. This sudden reversal was alarming given that he had just been allowed to sit untreated for over ten hours while actively declining. We were extremely concerned that his condition had worsened due to prolonged dehydration and lack of treatment while in their care. Due to the complete loss of trust in the facility, we declined hospitalization and took home medications and IV fluids. My dog deteriorated under their watch not because of his original condition but because of prolonged inaction. This facility failed to provide timely medical intervention demonstrated unprofessional conduct and allowed financial discussions to interfere with urgent medical care. If I could give negative stars I would. Never...and I mean NEVER again will I step foot into a Blue Pearl. I have never been so angry with a company in my life. Never have I met a more judgemental, non caring, insensitive. Bunch of people ever. This is a long one, so buckle up. I brought my 1 year old frenchie in after he had prolapsed at home. He was fighting a battle with Parvo and although I had gotten him over the worst of it, On December 23rd ... yes, two days before CHRISTMAS my poor baby prolapsed. For those that don't understand what this means, his rectum flipped inside out. I rushed him to the hospital frantic. They put me in a room where we sat for longer than 4 hours before we were ever even seen. They claimed there were 4 animals before us. But yet I eventually caught them lying. They were taking walk ins as they came in before even seeing my dog. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he was more important than anyone else's baby but at the same time, when your insides become your outsides I would classify that as pretty emergent don't you think? When they finally came in to "look" at him that's all they did. Look. No medicine. No vitals, no nothing they didn't even touch my dog then had the friggin audacity to charge me over $200. Not even a pain med. They wanted EIGHT THOUSAND dollars to "hospitalize" for TWENTY FOUR... yes. 24 hours. And as bad off as he was, pretty sure that wouldn't have done anything. They offered no solutions. No help. Hell, at one point I rummaged through the room drawers to find a glove and lubricating jelly just to lubricate his prolapse so it wouldn't dry out and get worse. In other words I did the very basic of a Vet / Vet techs job. Like what in the actual...F??? Here it was two days before Christmas and I'm bawling my eyes out for them to basically tell me to put my dog down, which for how sick he was and all the other things considered we ended up leading him to the rainbow bridge. This was to humanely end his suffering. (Truth be told even if I had all the money in the world I don't think he would've made it) We paid a deposit to get him cremated and then needed to pay the rest in a week. The problem with this, is in all of my despair and the fact I had been taking care of my baby for 11 days straight around the clock, I didn't even think about how this pay period would be Mortgage and car payment leaving me very little. My husband called to try to work something out and they refused. They said if it's not paid in 24 hours I don't get my dog's ashes back. We paid 400 dollars and still owe another 370. In the end my husband borrowed from family. But its ridiculous. They have ZERO humanity. Zero care. It's DAYS after Christmas. People have bills. People have other things going on. People are not rich. I am sick to my stomach. If I were rich I would sue them. I don't even know if I have any legal grounds, but I'd do it for spite. 200 plus dollars for an emergency fee when they did NOTHING. Another 570 to cremate my baby and bring him home. (That's about as much as it is to cremate a human being with no fanfare) If you love your fur babies the way I did mine... run. Do not bring your loved one to this place. Ever. They are heartless. Cold, WAY overpriced. They don't care about you. They don't care about your baby. They don't care about your circumstance. They ONLY care about money and when you argue anything with them they give attitude. They won't answer a single question with any merit or care. Just a run around and misdirection. Brought my Bernese in tonight for a possible opioid ingestion. They took quick care of him and suggested I call the poison center prior to treatment to save money. I told them I didn't care what it costs but they had me call anyway. Poison control said he should be ok. The doctors took care of my dog while I was in the phone and the whole staff was extremely professional. They could have charged me thousands and I would have gladly paid it. They didn't take advantage of me but still took great care of my best friend without charge. I'd never been to this ER before but the whole staff I met were totally top shelf employees. They are pricier than my normal vet, but so is the emergency room for humans. Peace of Mind when your fur baby can't tell you what's wrong is priceless. A month ago my son's dog had seizures at 9:00pm. She had 2 more between his house and Blue Pearl. Blue Pearl treated her so well and took her straight back to get treated. She ended up having 4 more seizures while we waited. It was a long wait, but they got her issue under control. She hasn't experienced another seizure since being on meds. Our follow up with our regular vet didn't reveal the underlying issue, but we were able to get her meds more inexpensively. She has been doing well since being treated, no more seizures. We are very grateful for the care our family received when we were scared, worried and didn't know what to do. Update: My dog (possibly both my dogs) stole a whole bag of gingersnaps and scared me. Blue Pearl took care of me over the phone. Confirming what I was finding online. The Ginger Snaps weren't toxic. Just not good for them (or us really) due to high sugar content. They told us signs to look for. I'm grateful for their care and being there in the middle of the night. Blue Pearl is a great resource. Just think of it like Emergency Care for yourself. I've been to this facility twice already. The first time for my five year old cat and the second for my epileptic cat that's about 1 1/2 years old. Both times have been great. Our regular vet is desert ark but they advised we go to blue pearl to take my cat since they wouldn't be able to see him. I'm not sure what the bad reviews are about as I had a great experience with them both times. The girls at the front are very friendly and I can tell they know what they're doing. Everyone made sure to answer all my questions and concerns. The facility is vey clean and tidy. They offer coffee, water and they even have vending machines. They were liquid meds, and the other script was a large pill? She is near death and very dehydrated even though I have been giving her syringes with some pedialite and liquid meds. She dying and when I called regarding no one called me back. Had to call again with no call back. I don't trust them anymore. They never took a swab of her throat so how can you prescribe meds if you don't know what the problem is. I arrived at this location at 6:15AM and the night shift vet didn't want to see my dog because the day shift was coming in at 7AM, so I patiently waited in the waiting room. 7:15AM comes and I had asked for an update. The lady at the front said that they are just informing the day vet about what's going on, so I waited again. 7:25AM comes around and still nothing. I had asked the receptionist for any update and the receptionist became defensive and letting me know that the vet is only one person and is a human being. I get it, but I am also a human being who is worried about their dog. Some sort of communication would at least be appreciated. I had a hard time believing that the vet was "updating" herself because her and the other girls were being loud and laughing. That part was very upsetting. The night shift receptionist needs to work on some compassion and the day shift vet and technicians needs to work on urgency, empathy, communication, and compassion. I don't even understand why they're considered an emergency vet if none of the employees are working urgently. I do not recommend taking your pets to this location at all! read more

I will never again bring any of my pets to this facility. Due to the negligence of the vet who saw my 5 month old chihuahua on Sunday May 4 at 3:00 pm, in Avondale, AZ she allowed my pet to die by deciding to perform a parvovirus test in lieu of providing immediate basic medical care Upon our arrival. When they informed us of the death the vet in charge informed us that my little girll had been left unattended for nearly 45 minutes awaiting results of a parvovirus test The test came back negative. The vet said no one went back to check on my little girl for nearly 45 minutes while awaiting test results. She died during the wait and could not be resuscitated due to the length of time she had passed. The vet said she was sorry because of the decision she had made and apologized for the mistakes that she and the staff had made. She said that everyone makes mistakes every once in a while. My wife and I were and continue to be shocked, stunned and are grieving the loss of our baby girl, Ruby Rose. I could have not been anymore thankful for the staff here. They all cared so much for my Debo. They quickly took my Debo in since he was not in the best shape. They explained everything to us very well and with so much empathy. They did not make us feel rushed to make a decision. More family members came to say our final goodbyes to Debo and the staff were so sweet and patient and explained everything to them. It was one of the hardest decision I had to make but I could only be grateful for the staff there and knowing they will take care of my Debo aftermath. My heart is so broken but I know he's is doggy heaven Thank you to the staff for the handwritten note sent to my home still thinking of me and my family during a hard time. I don't normally write reviews but felt it was important to share the experience we received at this emergency vet. Tonight we had to take our 7-month-old bull terrier puppy, Dexter, to Blue pearl Avondale, for a nail being trimmed to short and excessively bleeding. From the moment I called, Ken at the front desk was incredibly sweet and suggested we bring Dexter in just to be safe. When we arrived, they were quick to check us in, and we didn't have to wait long before the vet Karissa came out to take Dexter back for treatment. Dexter, who can sometimes be a bit anxious, was still bleeding but instantly was excited to see Karissa. In less than about 10 minutes, she brought him back out, and he was already walking comfortably and feeling better. Karissa was so kind to us and took the time to educate us on what we could do at home to prevent excessive bleeding from something like this again. This was our first emergency visit, and although it may not have been the most serious case they've seen, it was a big deal to us. Ken and Karissa made the whole experience smooth and reassuring. Karissa especially had such a calming sense to her and never made us feel bad for this happening. We are so thankful for the care Dexter received and feel confident that he was, and if needed in the future is in great hands at this facility. read more

Now my beloved pet is clinging to his life at the icu unit at Midwestern because of the incompetence of the doctors Blue Pearl employ. If you truly love your pet, this isn't the place I'd recommend. This incompetent abusive and outright evil establishment gave my puppy with low blood sugar 2 options, a $5,000 treatment for her condition or EUTHANASIA... we opted to take her home and give her honey every 2 hours as well as keeping her as hydrated as possible, within 2 days she was up and running again, where as the "veterinarian" said if taken home she'd have seizures and die, we were kept waiting in the room for one whole hour to make us, better yet, try to force us to give them money we don't have. In the end we paid close to $300 for an emergency visit where they did absolutely nothing to care for our baby, who mind you IS ALIVE AND WELL. The staff at Blue Pearl have no idea what they're doing, better yet they know exactly how to manipulate desperate individuals into giving them money. The pet care industry is incredibly corrupt and abusive, and this animal "hospital" is doing no better to help absolve the people of the weight that is their pets health off their shoulders, only come here if you want to be SCAMMED. Only thing worse than having a sick pet is having a sick pet in the middle of the night on a weekend. Our senior cat had an accident on a Saturday and we panicked because she's so old. Sure, we probably could of waited til Monday to take her to the vet but we weren't taking any chances. This place was the closest to our home that was 24 hrs. I was hesitant after reading some of the reviews but we needed our cat to be seen right away. Check in was easy, they took her vitals and let us know that there were some pets ahead of her but if an emergency came in, they would bump her down. They placed her in a room and told us we could go home and that they would call once the vet saw her. About 4 hours later the vet called to ask about our concerns and recommended an emergency ultrasound. After we agreed on the treatment plan, the vet called back to let us know the results. Honestly I was expecting the bill to cost an arm and a leg considering it was an emergency hospital plus the ultrasound but it was surprisingly affordable. Vet listened to our concerns and addressed the issues. Thankfully there was nothing serious going on. I hope we never need their services again but we were really pleased with the care our kitty received. read more

This is a top tier emergency animal hospital. They helped my dog when she was diagnosed with heart failure. Everyone was pleasant from the front desk, to the techs and the doctors. Yes, I had to wait a few hours but that is the state of the Vet Med industry right now. I commend the people who work in emergency vet medicine. Disgusted with this place. Brought in a laboring dog who had a puppy still in womb in distress (confirmed via ultrasound). Paid for the first portion of the visit which was almost $400. They stated that she needed to try and get the puppy out but had no motivation to do so. Was quoted another $450 to try and get puppy out, I asked if they could continue with the procedure to try and save puppy but wasn't able to pay until morning when I could run to the bank, it was midnight when I was in there. They turned us away and said to basically come back when we had the money or go somewhere else but at that point puppy could be deceased and require a c-section which according to them could be $6-7,000. read more

This place is a scam!!! They take advantage of vulnerable pet parents and ask for money before they begin any "treatments." They charged us $800 just for blood work and another $200 for iv fluids which they hadn't given the 4+ hours we were there!!! They waited until we said we were going to take our puppy home to give him IV fluids. Also they didn't entail what the $800 fee was going to cover. All they said is that it was a "critical care exam." Whatever you do, please do NOT bring your pets here unless you want to get scammed out of $1000 while they do nothing but continue to ask you for money. I wish we would have never came here at all. They put us in debt and didn't even do anything to treat my sick puppy. They treat you like an ATM machine and show no empathy whatsoever. read more

We had to put our sweet Callie to sleep unexpectedly early Monday morning and the staff was very attentive to us. We called a head of time cause we were lost on what to do to help our girl but we knew it was time. They took our information and had paperwork ready when we walked in the door. Fortunately we were the only ones there and got to have the quiet time with her. All our questions were answered and they did not rush us out after she took her last breath. They just tell you what you want to hear so you'll keep on paying money trying to push the hospital stay longer and longer at $5000 a day. We should've been told that our dog was not able to be comfortably walking in anytime soon, we couldn't afford to be there any longer so we took our dog home not being able to eat wasn't able to give him the pain medication suffered until we had to have mobile.
