Had to do the unthinkable and put cats to their rest after 12 years of loving memories for my parents. They were sisters and sick; however, they were faithful companions for my elderly parents. With that, the entire facility, their employees, comforted me through the heartbreak of having to see them cross the bridge to a beautiful place beyond what we could continue to offer with their needed health care. I have had an off and on experience with this office. I shared with one of the vets that I thought that my cat was in her later years that maybe it was time to put her down. I was apprehensive, but I am glad that I listened to my heart, b/c another vet in the office examined her, and she said let's keep monitoring her, but since she is still wanting to eat a little bit, and snuggle with her. If and when, it's time, I know that I will only consult with the second vet. read more

This clinic has constant doctor turnover, every visit feels like starting over -- no one seems to read my cat's chart or know their history. My cat had a tooth extraction here that wasn't done correctly and caused a painful infection. Another vet confirmed it was likely due to poor surgical work. They then quoted me over $2,000 to pull more teeth, that turned out to be perfectly healthy per our new clinic. We've since switched clinics and are really happy with the care. I would not reccomend this clinic to anyone who truly cares about their cat. I'm heartbroken mine went though what he did and I'd give zero stars if I could. read more

I have worked in veterinary medicine for over 10 years, and I have worked at many different hospitals. I give this particular hospital 5 out of 5 stars because of their honesty. I was honest about having less than $300 on hand, and the nurse, front desk staff, and doctor were all very understanding. I didn't feel embarrassed at all for being broke. The visit was pricey, but the staff were experts on cats. I received a nice follow-up email, letter in the mail, and phone call. Some people have said that the staff aren't always smiley and welcoming. As a customer service representative, I can tell you that those smiley faces are often fake. If you want an honest diagnosis and a team of people who know specifically about cats, you'd be a fool to go elsewhere. Pay the extra, it could be life or death for your cat. Also, they don't try to sell you anything. They don't upsell you on unnecessary treatments or products. I hope they stay this awesome forever. read more

My elderly cat was put on medication for over 5 months. I never received the last follow up call I was told I would receive about the medication. I called the office during an emergency situation with my girl (I personally felt it had something to do with the length of time on the medication). I was simply told to take her to the ER and that it could not be the medication. I never received a phone call about how she was doing since I called and explained she was very very sick, nor about the status of the medication progress. However, I did receive emails and postcards about setting up a 6 month follow up appointment. I wanted to give my honest experience because at first things seemed great to me too. I brought my cats here for 3 years and recently changed vets because I moved, and because of a long series of red flags. I would not recommend ACC to anyone in the area. I'm going to start with the biggest red flag and the last straw. One of my cats, who is almost 19, had an eye that kept watering. The inside of her mouth started looking very strange with a small lump on her jaw. It seemed to us like the lump was pushing on a nerve, and that's what caused the watering eye. Dr. Fuhrman assured me it wasn't anything to worry about. She described it as "inflammation" and possibly a "piece of a chipped tooth". She gave her an antibiotic shot and said to bring her back in 2 weeks to check on it. Barely 3 day later, the "inflammation" had doubled in size. My sister, who runs a rescue, said she'd never seen anything like it. I immediately scheduled an appointment with the new vet I had planned to start taking my cats to. I also started doing a little research. I became 100% convinced my cat had a tumor. Mouth tumors are common in cats and the way this thing looked? It obviously was not just inflammation. Dr. Fuhrman never even mentioned that a tumor was a possibility. Sure enough, our new vet confirmed almost immediately that it was a tumor. She was given new medication (antibiotic 2x a day, steroid shot every 4-6 weeks) and we were told to start giving her fluids every other day. There is no way she would have survived those 2 weeks. Because of ACC, I nearly lost my best friend. Now, she is doing so much better. She's eating again, and the tumor is manageable for the time being (less irritated, not growing, etc.) Moving on, they are ALWAYS late. I once sat and waited for 45 minutes and watched people who came in after me get to see the vet before me. I'm generally not one to complain, but after taking off work to sit and wait every single time? Extremely unprofessional. I always felt like they were trying to get more money out of me. My cats are my best friends and I'll do anything for them. That includes shelling out money to take care of them in any way needed. But, ACC usually took the long way around a diagnosis. I often had to take my cats in multiple times before they did something about the issue. What could have been one visit, they usually turned into two or three. For example, one of my cats started sniffling and sneezing. Instead of giving her a 2 week antibiotic (pretty standard) they put her on a 5 day one (which isn't long enough to really start working.) I had to take her in 3 different times and get 3 different medicines (antibiotics, steroids, probiotics.) I'm still not even sure what the issue was. Billing-wise, they are a more costly. Especially when you factor in taking your cat in multiple times before they'll give a diagnosis. It often seemed like they were trying to rack up the bill with more tests or exams. Vets: Dr. Frey is nice but a little all over the place when you talk to her. A guy vet I saw a couple times, can't remember his name. He always rushed through appointments. And Dr. Fuhrman, who was very apathetic whenever I saw her. She also gave me a lot of grief about not fully vaccinating my cats when I first started going there (at the time, they were 16, which is pretty old, indoor only cats, and they were the only pets in my household.) And not to mention, the dismissal of a tumor growing in my cat's mouth. read more

I absolutely love this place! Dr. Frey has been a godsend for my fur baby with IBD. I found Arlington Cat Clinic after one of my cats had been hospitalized in January for vomiting and not eating. I immediately felt better knowing it was a cat only practice. Dr. Frey has helped us through some tough times of not knowing what was wrong with my baby. Endless tests and phone calls of me asking so many questions. She has been so thorough and patient with me. The vet techs are also amazing!!! I can never say enough good things about this place. I live in Highland Park and will gladly drive the distance. Midnight and Baby Cat are so grateful for everyone who works here :) Even through covid, I have had many vet visits, and the phone calls during the visit have been so thorough. We were looking to get our kitty Leon fixed, and were having issues to find a suitable vet for our tastes. It was just this past week, right at the height of the quarantining due to Covid-19. With current safeguards, the rule of thumb is owners are unable to go in with their furry family. After speaking to Adele on the phone and being helped by everyone there, we know we chose the right place to help Leon! With their daycare and how loving they are of their own pets, I felt very comfortable having our pet there. We are already planning on another visit to bring our other kitty, Fritz, in for a check up. I highly recommend them how personable and thorough they are! read more

I'm a cat person in more ways than one. Not only do I love cats, but I consider myself to be a very cat-like person. I like to be left alone but you'll hear from me when I want something, and if someone makes me mad, well, let's just say I'm not above peeing in some remote corner of their home. When I look at cats, I see myself. I see my friends, I see my family, I see all my favorite characters. To me, they're not people - they're better. I happen to be lucky enough to share a living space with a few of my favorite feline friends and unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I can't always keep them safe. Sometimes they get sick and it's beyond my control. One of my guys in particular seems to be the beast version of the boy in the bubble and recently, after just getting through one surgery, my little Homer came down with yet another sickness. Losing a sizable percentage of his body weight in a month and having some pretty gnarly tummy troubles, it became clear he needed some fairly immediate medical attention. I wanted a vet that specialized in cats because so often the preferred pet is dogs. I have nothing against dogs, of course, but if I can give my guys specialized expert care at a place that caters to their kind, it's preferable. This vet isn't open on Sundays, when I initially called and left a detailed message, but they did follow up with me first thing Monday morning. No joke, their 8:23am call, beat my alarm. They had a few appointments open that day or even the next, and were pretty great about working with my schedule. They asked me to arrive 15 minutes before my appointment to fill out paperwork, to call my previous vet and have them fax Homer's files over, and to collect a stool sample to bring in. The first two parts were easy, peasy. The 3rd one... not s'much. When I first arrived I didn't feel very welcome by the front desk staff, but I think I just came in at the single second lull between two very busy times as the reception area quickly filled up with patients who had already been seen by the doctors. Once I filled out my first bit of paperwork it was all warm smiles and smooth sailing. The office has the sterility of any doctor's office, but the warmth and coziness of grandma's house. Kitschy cat pics and puzzles with some of the raddest cat-themed quilts decorating the walls... and I later found out that the quilts are made by the Dr we saw, Dr. Gloria Esbensen. So, we were lucky enough to see Dr Gloria and she was kind, compassionate, and gentle with my beloved boy. She poured over his files, and the questionnaire I'd filled out and even hung with me while I dug up a deleted voicemail from a previous vet that had some pertinent test information on it. I think she spent more time with Homer and I than I've even spent with a doctor for just myself, and gave straightforward answers while also being able to ballpark what different tests, procedures, and surgeries might run my wallet. The news for poor Homie wasn't great, but Dr GE hooked us up with a nearby office so he can get an ultrasound and we can hear directly from a radiologist, while still under her care. As we were leaving, we got to take a complimentary bag of Homer's favorite treats (Temptations) to keep him in good spirits and the front staff was much friendlier, even directing me to Leon's (the office security cat) whereabouts, since I was interested in meeting him. As we went to pay the bill for our initial visit, I was expecting it to be a hefty sum, but was pleasantly surprised that my hour-long time with the doc and her expertise only came out to $65. I'm glad that I've got a specialist nearby just in case my guys need some professional TLC ASAP. And fingers crossed for my boy, Homie, of course. read more

We had a terrible experience here with our 6-year old cat, Oliver. Oliver was a patient at Arlington Cat Clinic for two years until 2020. On his last visit, the vet told us Oliver's teeth needed cleaning and one tooth was impacted and needed to be extracted. We found out after the fact that they pulled a second tooth, which was not causing any issues but was merely extra. Some cats have six teeth on the top row, and others have seven or even more. Oliver had seven front teeth, and the vet decided to pull it simply for cosmetic (and I believe financial) reasons. Afterwards, they gave him buprenorphine, which he had an allergic reaction to (in their defense, we didn't know this prior to them administering the drug). Unfortunately, they did not bother to check how Oliver was doing when they sent him home. When we picked him up, it was clear that he was in distress. We figured it could be because of the car ride, but when we arrived at home, things only got worse. Oliver was panting heavily, disoriented, lethargic, and passing out - we needed to take him to a local emergency vet who administered an IV and helped him recover. Arlington Cat Clinic took no responsibility for this incident, apart from admitting that they "should have checked on him" and "thought they did." We transferred Oliver to another vet. read more

I took my bundle of fur here for an emergency visit. He was having some strange unidentifiable issue with his jaw and the animal hospital was great about it. They fit me in that morning to take care of Lumpy! The staff was super friendly and helpful during my visit. I had to wait quite some time after my appointment time but due to my circumstances and being squeezed in, I was totally okay with that. At the end, my poor little critter was so scared he was shedding like a beast which he usually doesn't do and they gave me a lint roller to clean myself off. Much appreciated it. The doctor and entire team at Arlington Cat Clinic was so thorough and professional with me through my whole visit. I was really happy with my experience here and will be taking little ol' Lumps back! read more

My two cats have been patients here for nine years. The one cat has been there frequently, and I admit that it has been 2-3 years since my other cat has been there for a check-up, but they are the Vets that write my cat's prescription food orders due to her urinary tract crystals, I called today because she is struggling to urinate, and need to see the Vet and get some pain meds so she can relax to urinate. They told me they couldn't see her for at least a week. I told them she cannot wait that long, I would have to call somewhere else, she said OK, and hung up. So, I guess at this point I need to find a new Vet for both my cats. They apparently don't care enough for your pet's health. Extremely disappointed! read more

I've been going to this clinic for about three years now - all the vets and vet assistants are incredible! The staff is nice & they are all great with cats of course. My cat had a couple teeth problems - one was causing pain bc it was digging into his gums along with plaque issues and he needed a couple teeth pulled. I took him in (during height of COVID-19) and when they gave him back they said he actually didn't need two teeth pulled and they were fine which was so great to hear financially! I saw a review that said that they pulled teeth for more money - I did not have that issue at all! I can't remember why they thought he needed them pulled but when they were doing the rest of the dental work needed they found that they were fine & saved me money. My cat is slightly overweight (okay, maybe more than slightly) and one of the vets was extremely helpful with going over a weight plan & helping me figure out a diet for him. A couple months ago I had to take him to an emergency vet (he was faking it so I would stay home from a vacation) and the next day ACC called me and followed up to make sure my cat was okay which was so sweet! Highly recommend this clinic! (Also love that they thank me for bringing my cat in - he's very friendly & while he gets nervous, he doesn't scratch, hiss or bite & when they give him back they rave about how great he is & how cute he is which is nice to hear after an incredibly stressful car ride with a crying cat lol) read more

It's a vet office for ALL cats only! The doctors here are amazing, very knowledgeable & honest when reviewing our files. There is even a furry office assistant Jax who was great with my kids such a sweet heart! My 2 furry kids (Bella & buddy) walked around the exam room like they were at home. They were curious & friendly. Not moody & timid like at other vet offices I have been to. My favorite thing there was the giant hamster wheel which is for cats to walk in. I have mixed feeling's but overall I was not pleased with my experience. I used to work in a vet's office and have volunteered at shelters so I understand how to handle animals, however I understand that I am not a veterinarian. I just moved so rather than driving back to my old vet I checked yelp to find a new one. While it wasn't as horrific as the 1 star reviews I did not feel the love of the 5 stars ones. Pro: -The Dr was very through with the exam and asked me a lot of questions about my cat's medical history. -It's cats only, but there is a office that roams freely. I like that he was there, my cat did not. -Prices were fair. Cons: -The Dr was rougher with my cat than necessary. It started when she took his temp and had to do it twice because the machine did not beep the 1st time and she had to retake it. When I asked if she was able to get a reading at all, she said it had worked the 1st time making the 2nd attempt unnecessary, but my cat all the more uncomfortable. -Normally, my cat sits on the exam table and I loosely have my arms around him to keep him calm and so he doesn't go anywhere. Since he had been so upset by the 2 temp takings, she suggested I stand back which I did and she continued the exam while scruffing him. He growled and hissed the whole time. I understand that he was upset and she needed control, but I felt this just pissed him off further. - For the shots, again I usually just hold him, but she called in the tech and the threw a towel over him, scruffed him, and gave him the shot. He wailed the whole time. -Reception was inefficient and unprofessional. After the exam all I wanted to do is pay and get out of there, but I was left standing at the desk for a minute while no one acknowledged me. Finally I was told it would be a minute, so I had a seat. Another patient came in, they couldn't find his animals chart so he had to sit down and fill out a new one. Another man walked in to pick up his cat and they said it would be several minutes. They both got served before me and I was waiting about 20 minutes. - The whole visit took about an hour and 20 minutes when I am used to being in and out of my old vet in 45 minutes without me and my cat leaving upset. I will be returning to my old vet. read more

We recently adopted a kitten from a shelter who had a few different ailments and is much smaller for her estimated age than she should be, due to what I suspected and Dr. Fuhrman confirmed was most likely a malnourished upbringing since she was born to a feral cat. Anyway, I felt Dr. Fuhrman and the nurse Carrie were very kind, patient, and considerate to my kitten and I. There were many questions I had, especially not having owned a cat that young before, and I felt like Dr. Fuhrman really took her time listening to me and addressing all of my concerns with detailed responses. One thing that can be quite common with shelter-born kittens, as I learned, is that they often just test only one kitten from the litter for feline leukemia/FIV, and I found out only the brother in the litter was tested after a quick call to the shelter, even though they said with this method the chances of a littermate testing positive was only 5%. It was low, but I was still worried, as my kitten had seemed to be a bit under the weather. However, Dr. Fuhrman let me take my time to think about whether or not I wanted to pay extra for the blood work to see how she tested. At the end of the day, I was glad I made the decision to get her tested (she was negative, thankfully!) and appreciated Dr. Fuhrman's gentleness and patience while I thought about what to do. She sent us home with a few medications, and although the price added up with this, the quality of service speaks for itself. I don't mind paying for what needs to be paid for in order to make my kitten grow into a healthier cat, and I didn't feel ripped off in the slightest like I have at vets in the past. From the zero dogs and friendly cat people in the waiting room, to the wonderful staff, we really felt comfortable and welcomed here. We will continue to go back for annual check-ups! read more

I've been coming here since 1996 and have brought all 4 cats I have had during that time. Two had to be taken for euthanization (7 years apart) and the staff could not have been more kind or compassionate during those terribly difficult and painful ordeals. Not only are they extremely kind to their animal patients, but also to the animal PARENTS; when I lost my 14-year orange tabby, who was, essentially, my entire Heart and Soul, they let me come in the office any time I needed to, to cuddle with the Office Security Cat (Leon), who is also a big cuddly orange tabby. Simply put, the people who work here LOVE CATS. From the married vets who opened/manage the clinic, to the 3+ staff members it sometimes takes to hold my big Chunky Monkey down when he comes in for his yearly shots :) They recently went above and beyond in caring for a rescue kitten who was brought in with no use of his back paws; they paid for his PT and he is now running and jumping almost like a normal kitten; they also found him the perfect forever home. Staff is VERY accommodating. And Very kitty-friendly :) You can rest assured that your cats are in good hands if you bring them here. read more

I absolutely love this place. The front desk is fantastic and always friendly. Dr. Gloria is such a kind, caring, funny veterinarian. Her husband is very nice as well. I treat my cats as my children and I love seeing them being handled with care. My last vet hospital was rough with my kitten and petrified her of vets but here the vet techs and doctors are very careful and gentle. The first visit I had with them was in November and they were able to squeeze me in on an emergency visit and I've been coming back here since. All information has been transferred over with one cat so now I just need to get all the information from my second and this will be my primary choice. I highly recommend this place. read more

What good is a vet that can never fit in a sick pet? I go there for wellness cat checks yearly but have called several times for my sick kitty and alas, they won't bother? Well I've had enough. It's stressful enough to have a sick pet but when the vet won't see him, it's time for a change. With hours 8-12 and 2-6, you'd think they would assist a frantic cat mom? Nope. Sam just had his annual wellness exam. When we arrived at the clinic, there were small, clean blankets sprayed with Feliway available to calm your ur cat. What a great idea! Not only did Sam seem more curious than scared, but the "blankey" gave him something to snuggle in while waiting. Dr. Gloria discussed Sam's weight with us and gave explicit examples and details on how to modify his diet safely. Shots, bloodwork and a "sanitary shave" (he's a long haired cat) -- all positive experiences due to Dr. Gloria and Tech Julie being so thorough, competent and caring. Follow-up call with lab results (all good) from Dr. Gloria; wouldn't it be nice if doctors for people were as conscientious? Sam will now be visiting the Cat Clinic every six months, as he's a senior cat. There isn't a better practice devoted to the well-being of both the cat and his family anywhere!! read more

We started taking our cats to ACC when our old vet closed her practice. Dr. Judy was wonderful with our little scaredy-cat, that was the calmest I've ever seen him at the vet's. When his kidneys started to fail, they were very supportive with treatment and helping us decide when to let the little guy go. A few days after we put him to sleep, we received a sympathy card in the mail. It's good to know that they care about my pets as much as I do. . read more

I've been a cat owner for 25+ years. We discovered this place that long ago. I've been to many other vets along the way (we've moved several times), and no other vet has given me the service this vet has. Both docs (the ones I see are a husband / wife team) are so caring (about the animal and the owner), and diligent in their exams. Plus, being focused on cats only, I know I'm not getting an "I think" diagnosis. I'm getting a "let's try this based on my many years of cat experience" diagnosis. They can get expensive, but that's what pet insurance is for. They also can be very busy, so plan ahead to get on their books. All in all, bravo to a very well run office, great staff, and outstanding, caring doctors. I'm a fan! read more

My one eared cat, Linus, loves Dr. Gloria and Robin. I think he prefers women. Think it might be the higher pitch voice. Brought my first cat to the clinic when it first opened and met Dr. Gloria. Have been coming back since. The staff was very caring when my first cat passed and when Linus was diagnosed with cancer of the ear. I have had two cats treated by ACC. Overall, I think ACC is OK for cats. I have three specific complaints. When I took my previous cat to be euthanized, they made me sit in the waiting room FOREVER, with me getting more and more emotional. They had basically forgotten about me. The clerk finally said, "What are you here for" and I told her to euthanize my cat. They sent me to a back room where they brought in the male vet. He showed NO compassion or caring for the fact that I was euthanizing my 10 year old cat with cancer in her ear. I have refused to go to him ever since. He may be a great diagnostician as one other rater said, but his bedside manner SUCKS. Secondly, when I have boarded my 20-year old remaining cat, when I've gone to pick her up, they bring her out in her carrier and then take FOREVER to settle up her bill. The last time I picked her up, I said, PLEASE let me pay and THEN go get her. The vet tech said, "OK" and then proceeded to go get my cat and bring her out and THEN settle the bill. ARGGGH. My cat is crying and crying the whole time. Why further stress out a 20 year old cat? The tech said, "that's how we do it." Stupid reasoning. My final complaint is that they won't give prescription refills without seeing the cat again. At 20 -- and nearly 21 years of age, no news is good news with my cat. They just want $$$$ in my opinion. So I'll take her in and I'll pay $150 for them to tell me she's old and to keep her on the same meds and her kidneys are going. Like I didn't already know that before spending $150. I love my cat and I take good care of her (hence her advanced age). I don't enjoy spending money needlessly on her. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My kitty was really sick and I kept bringing him in - they couldnt find anything wrong with him and were uncompassionate to me. My kitten was only 8 months old and he died and ACC did not do anything to help me. I ended up having to go to Oakton Animal Hospital who helped me take care of him as long as we could until my little guy passed away. I have no respect for Arlington Height Cat Clinic. Wonderful Staff! Brought in my cat Lulu who is 14 years old who had large mats on her back and they trimmed them with ease. My cat is very nervous with vets and they were able to get it done with minimal stress to my kitty! Absolutely amazing. Will be bringing my cat here for the rest of her years. Again an amazing staff with great knowledge of the feline species. Very empathetic and caring. I was extremely pleased and would recommend to anyone who has a cat who is difficult to handle. Very poor taste to hear her telling a fabricated story about me and my cat, (who she referred to by her unique name) while I was sitting right there! They even put up with my little one with a smile when she pitched a fit when it came time to draw blood. Perhaps I'm a little prejudiced since my sister is an animal health technician and I know a bit about what goes on at this clinic. It is unfortunate that some people have bad experiences but it's inevitable. Sometimes the vet doesn't know what is wrong because the symptoms presented are not usual. I know for a fact that some clients will not listen to what the vet or the technician has to offer, they don't hear what is being said, they only hear what they think they heard or what they want to hear. That being said, I have never had a bad experience here and my cats have been coming here since 1993. Dr. Robert Esbensen is a wonderful diagnostician, the best! He may not have the warmest bedside manner with clients but he cares about the animals. . I like the fact that all they do is cats. It's less stressful on the animal without all the dogs barking. Let's see what else? The staff are very caring. When I had my cat put to sleep, they made a little pawprint mold of his foot out of Fimo clay (ok, this was my sister's idea, but they do it for ALL the clients, not just me!) I took my senior cat here for a number of things: vet appt, blood testing, boarding, medication, and sadly, in the end, euthanasia. I found the front staff and vets to be incredibly kind and compassionate. When the time came, they spent so much time with me, talked to me, explained everything in detail (I asked) and let me be there for his last moments. He was comfortable, relaxed, and snuggled in my arms as he drifted off. They also let me spend time with him after he was gone and all details, paperwork, payment was done before so I could leave when it was over. Two days later I received a condolence card with handwritten notes from the Dr and staff. I took my cat to Arlington Cat Clinic and they were very prompt and friendly with my visit. My cat a thorough check up and I was very pleased with how all of the staff treated me and my cat. Would definitely recommend this business to anyone looking for a vet !!!!! read more

We are more than pleased with the treatment that our cats recieve . The doctors are very up to date, friendly, and always a step ahead. They know cats , and they treat each one in a special manner, paying attention to every detail. The exam and test results are discussed so there are no questions left.
