I went to Arlington center for dentistry, saw Dr.Nick Truong for a really bad tooth ache I was having. Wasn't sure what was causing the extreme pain. I wasn't able to eat or drink anything at a certain temperature. He saw me and did a few procedure to test out what was going on so he can be fully sure how to go with the treatment plan. The billing department is incompetent, the ortho-service salesman tried to prey on insecurities to try and rope me into getting Invisalign because of a gap in my front teeth. The dentist never shut up chatting while she was working , I think she's hyped on adderall. Honestly, it was the worst medical office experience I've ever had and would leave 0 stars if I could. When I moved to Arlington, I knew I was going to need some major dental work due to a few missing adult teeth and needing to get implants and crowns. I was optimistic about the Arlington Center for Dentistry as they could do all of that. I wish I could go back in time and never start services with them. The staff at the office is incompetent and not at all helpful. The dentists have terrible bedside manner towards patients and were always curt and rude to the hygienists or assistants. Daniel the hygienist was the saving grace, he was wonderful and so kind and never judgmental. I had multiple appointments rescheduled immediately after made since the dentist had a "change in their schedule." Once I started work on my two implants and crowns, I couldn't leave the practice until they were complete due to insurance. However, as soon as the services were done, I immediately found a new dentist. I had two implants and crowns done by them in 2023; which should last my lifetime, I have two others from 2012 by another dentist and have never had an issue. In fall of 2024, one of the crowns came loose and I had to return to this office since they did the services. Everyone seemed to be confused that it was an issue, gave the runaround on why, and then made me pay for a replacement - even though it was no fault of my own - claiming they'd give me a discount to try and make it right and not submitting it to my insurance. However, when I asked about what services I was paying for, it was never really clear. I ended up having to get a completely new crown which screwed up the fit of my retainer and had to get a new one which was another cost. It took about 5 visits to figure out this issue. No less than 4 months later, the same crown started having issues. Refusing to go back to this office for services, I requested my medical records be sent to my new dentist for someone else to fix. I had to call the office multiple times to get the request filled; every time I called they just told me I had to pay for the records - a payment that had already been processed. I also specifically asked for the full records, not just the x-rays, but of course they only sent the x-rays and I had to repeatedly follow-up for the other information which honestly could have just been shared over the phone. I also tried asking if anything could be done about the payment I made for the last crown since it didn't even work and apparently the billing department "was too busy" to talk to me. I wish I could back in time to save myself some frustration, time, and money. Hopefully this helps someone else who is doing their dental research. read more

After dental insurance changed in 2022, I called around and found that Arlington Center for Dentistry accepted my insurance. Two years later, I keep going back to their office for great service and friendly staff. I've had regular cleanings, night guards, root canal, and an implant. Their scheduling system sends me automatic text reminders (which I love!) to remind me of my appointments and fill out my forms online. The dental hygienists, endodontist specialist, and my general dentist (Dr. D Nguyen) are skilled and really took great care of me. I have been a patient here for at least 5 years but I will not be returning. On my last visit for my daughter's orthodontist appointment with Dr. Scott Berman, there was a dog present in the area where patients are examined. I was given no warning and was totally shocked by the dog's presence. The dog was huge and roamed and sniffed where multiple examination stations and equipment were located. It approached and rubbed on me and my daughter and wanted engagement. It's also worth noting the dog was freshly groomed/cut because hair was visibly flying everywhere every time he shook/moved a lot. The hygentist noticed my discomfort and did take the dog with her when she went to get the orthodontist. The orthodontist confirmed it was not a service dog and told me that he watches his son's dog when he travels for the military. I was so shocked I didn't think to take a picture of the dog in the main examination room but did snap a pic of him in the dentist's private office on my way out. Even more disheartening, the manager, Tammy (?), was extremely defensive and initially told me they have emotional support animals for patients with anxiety. When I told her the orthodontist stated it wasn't a service dog she still took no accountability. Having a dog where patients are examined is so unsanitary and I can only wonder what other protocols are not followed. On a side note, Dr. O is an excellent pediatric dentist with a great bedside manner and I hate to discontinue my children's services with her. However this unsanitary experience condoned by the practice is unacceptable for me. read more

I'D GIVE NEGATIVE STARS IF I COULD. 3 years ago, I was a patient and originally wasn't going to leave a review, but I figured I would try to save someone the hassle of dealing with these folks! I can honestly say that it took me years to forgive this dental office and forgive myself for not using discernment when dealing with folks who in my view wanted to rack up on my insurance for numerous dental procedures they claimed I needed done urgently. My suggestion would be to do your research and get second opinions if you choose to obtain services at this ratchet dental office. After the dreadful experiences I had here a few years ago, I wouldn't recommend them to do dental work on my dog's teeth. ESPECIALLY dealing with DR. NGUYEN, Dr. LEE or ----- Dr. Joseph Alwan, who skipped town for whatever reason. If you're happy with substandard dental work and being spoken to unprofessional, by all means, go with these folks. They will gladly accept ANY dollar or coin you give them, so please be mindful of that. There are many dental practices in that same area. Totally incompetent. I made an appointment with a pediatric dentist for my toddler weeks in advance. The day of the appointment, we showed up at the office and, when the elevator wouldn't go to the correct floor, I called the front desk to see if I could be let in. It was only then I was informed that the office was closed due to a systems issue and that my son's appointment had been cancelled - I had received no phone call, text, email or any other other communication to let me know. When I told the woman I spoke to on the phone that the timing of the appointment was urgent (I needed dental paperwork by a specific deadline to enroll my son in school), she told me to "calm down." She then told me that she had no idea when the office would reopen (maybe next week, she said?) and then said I should try to call the other dentist's office in the building to see if I could get an appointment (never mind they are not a pediatric dentist and not covered by our insurance). I can't review the dentists because my appointment was cancelled and given the incompetence I don't plan on visiting in the future. read more

I was hired for a front desk position and very excited to start working. The manager (doctors sister) was nice to speak with and told me to come in the following Monday to start training. As I arrive everything went normal. About 45min in the Doctor comes out and tells me that being in the office was unacceptable. She was yelling at me and being so rude. She told me to call the manager and to tell her that me being there was so unprofessional. Mind you, I had no idea that I wasnt supposed to be there because I was told to come in. I replied to the doctor telling her "well isnt she your sister?" Which I guess made her mad. She got more upset and said "once i walk through the front doors of my office, family and friends dont exist to me." Which at that point I was already to leave. I sat there for maybe 10 more min while she went back to her office. The girl who was training me got a call and it was the doctor telling her to teach me correctly. I noticed she was getting yelled at because of the expressions of her face. As soon as she hung up I politely got up and said this doesnt feel like the right fit for me. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Beware of this SCAM of a "dentistry". They are shady and insurance fraud scammers. They are so quick to charge the insurance to the max for procedures they NEVER provided. Sending in deep cleaning when only a normal cleaning was done, failed to send X-ray proof to my insurance. Picked at a current filling that I have and removed part of it without my CONSENT. They also stalled me out on providing my X-Rays and Dental charts for almost a WEEK. Kept giving me run arounds and said they can't promise they can give them to me. Not only that but they charge a $25 FEE to get access to your own records. I used to go to this practice for a really long time to see Dr. Duong. He was an excellent dentist that I've seen for many years, and unfortunately he's no longer affiliated with this practice and works elsewhere. What's really messed up is I called the front desk to cancel my future appointments. One of the front desk ladies flat out lied to me and said she's new saying that she didn't know anything about Dr. Duong. Funny enough, my wife had called an hour earlier to cancel her appointments, the same lady answered then, and she had no problems remembering who Dr. Duong is. The female dentist who did my exam during my last cleaning 6 months ago basically did a rush job and never even bothered to even touch my teeth with a tool. I told her that one of my crowns felt pressure like it shifted and she ignored it. 2 weeks later it chipped and I had to have it burred down at my next cleaning. The new male dentist seemed nice during my last appointment, but it is very weird that the other hygienists were spreading the story that he had a family emergency and they had no idea when he'd be returning. I found Dr. Duong's new practice and fortunately it's nearby, so I'll be following him there. The way the office handled his departure, though, was pretty bad. read more

I have been going to this dentistry for around 2.5 years only because the location was convenient, however I'm actually really concerned about what this dentistry is doing: they will do/say anything to be able to charge your insurance. Here are a few examples: 1. I experienced a traumatic event and wound up with a chipped tooth. I immediately went to the dentistry to get it fixed. This has happened before and dentists have all previously patched and fixed the tooth quickly and easily. Upon being seen, they immediately told me I needed a root canal which seemed insane to me. My teeth were still sensitive but I wasn't in pain. I attended a follow-up appointment and it was determined I didn't need a root canal, but they immediately said I needed a crown which again, since I have previously gone through this and never needed a crown before, seemed unnecessary. They provided me with a cost estimate of $600+ for one tooth (this was half the total price as my insurance covered half) and immediately asked for my payment information for a deposit. I told them I would be seeking a second opinion and they looked very put out and disappointed. 2. I once mentioned, off hand, that my teeth were sensitive, and immediately had both a dentist and dental hygienist (DH) looking down at me, very close to my face, urging me to get a fluoride treatment; that they would do it immediately. When I said I would think about, they looked almost angry. 3. During routine check-ups and cleanings, they would frequently ask if I wanted an additional strengthening product, fluoride, at the end of my cleaning that would cost an additional $35. I always declined this service. On one occasion, the DH just started to prepare the product, without asking if I wanted it, and was about to use it, when I asked what he was doing and asked if this was an additional charge. When he responded that it was, he was very clearly put out when I declined. He even went up to the teller at the end and said in a very rude tone of voice, to take the charge of my bill -- he had already planned to charge me without my authorization. 4. On my first visit, a male dentist continued to ask me why I had a filling in my molar as that seemed unusual. I told him I had chipped it and had it filled. He kept asking what had happened, wanting to know what I had experienced that caused it and kept pushing, despite me indicating that I did not want to discuss it. He eventually let it go, but it was extremely uncomfortable for me. 5. I only visit the dentist every 6 months; it's worked for me so far and I have very good teeth/dental hygiene. During my last routine visit, my DH went to the teller at the end of the appointment and, without asking, said to schedule me in four months because my insurance approved me for three visits a year. Then, again, without asking me, he left. I told the teller I only wanted to be seen in 6 months and she respected that decision. Altogether, my personal opinion based on these experiences, is that they are only looking to charge you, and charge your insurance, as much as possible. The best way I can describe the practice is "Factory style service that maximizes insurance billing". For regular cleanings, it's a very large practice that quickly moves patients through many available stations, where a random (and often I believe very recently trained) dental hygienist cleans and a random dentist comes by to chat for 2 min. Will always want to take as many x-rays as allowed by insurance, and will push additional services as much as possible. Very similar feel on the orthodontics side of things, factory style with random assistants taking molds. Front desk is a total chaos. If you ever needs records or information or someone there to do anything, expect problems. Ones really is accountable for anything. I had a root canal and a crown put on a molar in early 2021. The original "permanent crown" fell off within 24 hours. After doing some "corrective work," I received a new crown (a month later) but the tooth always needed to attention, as food was constantly trapped between it and the two teeth near it. Last week, the "permanent crown" fell out again--less than 2 years after it was put on. The work they do isn't very competent. The turn over of professional personnel, during the 5 years I was a patient there, should have alerted me to that fact. My bad. While the dentists and their assistants are very nice and do a fine job, they are never on time. My appointments have been consistently 30+ minutes late. Moreover, I have experienced very rude front desk receptionists. But my most serious gripe is that they push unnecessary treatments. Yesterday I refused X-rays (as they took them during my initial appointment) and both the hygienist and doctor basically shamed me for declining it citing that the ADA recommends x-rays every year and to be "100% certain" that I don't have cavities. Okay so I'm glad I went here before I read the reviews, because I wouldn't have made an appointment here. I uploaded a bunch of photos. Place is super clean. The design itself is sort of the opposite of the comforting local dentist office, but the comfort was definitely there, it just didn't come in the sort of cozy small office. The staff there was friendly and, somewhat disconcertingly, exceptionally good-looking. As in, every single staff person. It got sort of alarming after awhile. I went in first yesterday because I had a very sore tooth, one that I'd had a huge cavity filled about six months ago. I called at 230pm, and asked if they had any appts in near future, they had just had a cancellation and let me come in at 245pm. They did x-rays, then the doctor (very young guy, Dr. P) saw me and did some tests, determined I either needed a root canal or the tooth pulled. He wrote me an rx for antibiotics and sent me on my way. I got an appt the next day for an in-house endodontist consult with Dr. S (I'm sort of embarrassed I don't know any of their names). So that's today. Came in at 11, they did another x-ray, then the doc said that she'd seen it and it would def need a root canal. So I just left and came back in an hour, got the root canal today. It was sort of anxiety-provoking in the beginning (I'm only ever had cavities or my wisdom teeth out, and I had general anesthetic for that). But Dr. S was a pro and she had me in and out of there in an hour, no fuss. So, they get five stars for 1) seeing me on short notice twice & 2) making the experience painless and personable. read more

This is the most dangerously incompetent dentist office I have ever been to, and I've lived all over the country. Please run as fast as you can. I attempted to get Invisalign with them, but after paying for 90% of it upfront in cash, they then completely ghosted me for over two months. I called multiple times, emailed multiple times more, and heard absolutely nothing for TWO MONTHS. Each time I called I was told Sean, the most useless health "professional" on the planet, would call me back (which he never did) or that he wasn't in today and to try again. I'd ask when he would be in next and I just got an "I don't know." ~9 weeks later I was so angry I just walked into the office and said I wasn't leaving until I spoke to Sean and lo and behold, he walked in 30 minutes later. I talked to two orthos at two other practices and found out that I was lucky to get out when I did, because in addition to being terrible at communication, they are also terrible at their jobs. The new ortho said the Invisalign treatment plan they made for me was so bad that it would have caused permanent damage to my mouth because of my bone structure. They are crooks and unethical. Negative stars. They like to perform unnecessary permanent modifications to your teeth. My fillings that they said I "needed" fell out while I was flossing within a few months. Like when is it okay for that to happen? What kind of dental work is being carried out in this office. The dentist Waldo Valdivia was trying to say I needed to straighten my teeth when my teeth are already straight. I just had braces.... Also, he made it seem like my teeth were about to fall out and I needed to have 8 fillings. Unfortunately, I went in and he did the some of the fillings and actually messed up during the procedure. He was shaking his head and had to redo one of the fillings that didn't cure properly. He also left me in the chair in the middle of the procedure to go to his other patient. When the filling he messed up on fell out a couple months later, I saw a different doctor and she actually charged my insurance again for a mistake they did (they got paid twice). The assistants are not trained and have no idea what they are doing. When I went for a consult she redid X-rays I had just completed a few days ago. I told her I had already had those specific X-rays done but she was set in her ways and told me that she needed them for the doctor to check my wisdom teeth. It turns out when she told the doctor my X-rays were ready the doctor told her she did the wrong X-rays and I actually needed the Pano. So I had like 5 unnecessary X-rays in one visit, thanks. I called later to set up an appointment for this and they didn't have someone licensed to perform oral surgery .. okay? Another filling fell out that I had done at that office by Valdivia. I decided to visit a different dentist at an upscale private practice with more advanced equipment and staff that actually enjoy their jobs. I was told they have to redo some of the fillings that they ARL dentistry did because they are fractured and that I don't need 8 fillings. I was never going to write this review but I just got an email from my insurance that another claim from Arlington dentistry has been submitted. Why ? I haven't been back. I had positive experience with orthodontist technician, he explained everything, called my insurance and did his best to help, that's why I am giving them 2 stars instead one. I recently changed insurance and needed to find a dentist in Arlington as my previous one was still in Richmond where I'm from. I had just gotten a teeth cleaning 4 months prior but since my insurance reset I went ahead and got another one before the 6 month mark. For the first time in my life I was told I had a cavity which was a shock for me, especially since I so recently had a teeth cleaning and my teeth were healthy and clean. I've never had one, I didn't know what to do and I explained this to the dentist. He was very pushy and a bit rude, not taking the time to explain the process for me. Was I getting it filled that day or did I need to come back? I literally had no idea and he wasn't talking me through it very well. I came back to get the filling and was still feeling uneasy about the whole thing. They had never taken the time to even show me the cavity/where it was. I asked for them to show it to me and they really couldn't. They said they had to do it by camera, but the camera in the room "wasn't working" so they asked if they could go ahead and proceed with the filling. I asked if we could go to another room and they seemed as if they were trying to rush me. In the new room, they got the camera up and running and they showed me the cavity "spots" but the whole picture had spots everywhere and it was very unclear what was a cavity and what was not and they could not explain the difference to me. I ended up getting it filled because I didn't want to risk damaging my teeth by letting a cavity sit there, but I was very skeptical given they couldn't explain much to me during both of my visits. *I cannot for the life of me find the dentist that I saw to name him. He's not on their website and I can't find a name from when I made the appointment.* Unfortunately, during my initial teeth cleaning I had inquired about Invisalign. The dentist (who was not Invisalign certified) looked at my teeth and was talking down to me/shaming me about them. No wonder I was asking about an Invisalign consult!! So incredibly unprofessional to make a patient feel bad about something they're already self conscious about. Anyway, I go through with the consult and the Ortho was very nice and kind, he actually took the time to explain to me what they would do and it was definitely a different experience than I had with the dentist. The only issue was at the end of the consult, the price they quoted me was insane. I know a lot of people who've gotten Invisalign before to know that I was being ripped off. They also charge you more if you need to do a payment plan too which is absolutely ridiculous. When they handed me the paperwork breaking down the price, I was obviously taken aback. They were pushy about me not being ready to sign on the dotted line right there on the spot. Invisalign is a BIG financial commitment and they seemed annoyed that I wanted to take this home and think about it like any responsible adult would do. I ended up having a consult at another place which was a 30 minute drive one way (soooo worth it) from where whereas this place I could walk to because of a referral from a friend and had such an amazing experience there that I committed to Invisalign with them and will also be seeing the dentist regularly. The kicker - I saved $1,500 on Invisalign with them vs. the quote I received here. One positive about this place was that I had a really sweet hygienist looking out for me. She told me that no matter what the ortho consult said, make sure I got a second opinion/quote. It seemed as if she knew they were incredibly overpriced and was warning me from the start. WARNING, DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTAL OFFICE. They are scammers, I would give 0 stars but can't do that. I moved to Old Town Alexandria from Chicago and went to this office. For the record I am very anal about my teeth and take very good care of them. I had a cleaning which was average at best and then after the exam the dentist said I had a cavity. I asked to see the x-ray and could not see a cavity on it so I told her not to drill my tooth, instead I paid to have my x-rays sent to my old dentist in Chicago. My previous dentist of 20 years received the x-rays and then I went less than a month later to have him look at the tooth in question. He said there is nothing wrong with that tooth no decay what so ever, it was a perfectly healthy tooth. I then called the manager at Arlington Center for Dentistry to tell them what my dentist said and that I wanted my money back for the exam and that I was going to give them a bad Yelp review to warn people. The manager mentioned that it didn't show on my records that they diagnosed me with a cavity. Knowing that I didn't have a cavity and instantly paying to have my x-rays sent, they knew they were going to get busted and didn't put it in my record. The manager not only told me that she would not give me my money back but threatened me with a lawsuit for defamation of character if I gave them a bad Yelp review and mentioned that she was recording the call. I told her she can't sue me for giving a accurate yelp review. I told her to keep the money as they must need it more than I do. My husband went a few months before me which they told him he had 2 root canals which he had them fix, I am second guessing that diagnosis. The equipment is old and I received an inflated bill with cavities and gum issues that do not exist. I went to this office because of convenience, however upon immediately returning to my original dentist that has accumulated my teeth x-rays for years, the issues that Arlington Center for Dentistry told me I have were completely untrue. The estimated total for all the dental work I allegedly needed at Arlington Center for Dentistry was in the thousands. Moreover, a friend went here and had a similar experience, as well, except she proceeded with the tooth fillings and is now having dental issues that she has to seek out another dentist to address. While the dentist and hygienist I saw were nice, there is clearly something going on here, where the dentist is told by the owners or whomever to inflate the 'what-you-need-fixed' after the exam. read more

When I called to schedule this appointment for my son, I asked if they accept our insurance and was assured that they did. (We've had some trouble with this insurance coverage, so I wanted to double check.) I called a week before the appointment asking that the insurance be run in advance, and was informed by the desk staff that I'd be called if it wasn't accepted. The day before the appointment, when I was called to confirm our appointment and complete COVID screening questions, I asked - a third time - if the insurance was accepted and was informed that everything was in order and the insurance was authorized. Only when we arrived for the appointment was I told that in fact our insurance is not accepted. The fact that the desk staff misinformed me 3 times and flat out lied at least once (when they said it had already been run & was okay) cost me over $200. (Yes, I have spoken to my insurance company as well.) I realize everyone is busy due to COVID, but this was unacceptable. The dental care was quite suitable but since the desk staff sit within earshot of the insurance team, this failure of communication baffles me. I would recommend going elsewhere. read more

My first two visits with ACD were great, but my most recent visit with ACD has sealed the deal - I will never be returning. I went in to get a permanent crown put on, and to have a few cavities filled. Not only did my appt. start 30 mins late (thankfully they texted me to move the time), but the entire appt. took over 2.5 hours. Dr. Nguyen (who is nice), spent MINIMAL time with me. She spent as much time running around taking care of OTHER patients, as she spent working on my teeth. They definitely double-book, either purposefully or by accident. By the time she got back to taking care of me again, my anesthesia was wearing off as she was filling a tooth. Dr. Nguyen offered to numb the area again, but I was so desperate to get back to work I said "screw it" and just had her continue. My permanent crown also hurt like crazy because she did not numb that side. She said "that can happen sometimes" - it was terrible. When she was working on my teeth, it was very rushed. I did not feel like a priority, and there was little care taken to do a good job. All that to say, find another dentist in another office. read more

Had a very unpleasant first visit to ACD. I specifically requested to see one dentist, received the email confirmation, and then was given no notice that I was assigned another dentist. I had no idea until my hygienist said the dentist's name in the middle of my appointment. The office staff seemed very clueless and not professional. When I checked in, the woman requested information and paperwork that I had already submitted earlier in the week. When I was trying to schedule a follow up appointment, the woman did not even remember what procedures I needed to get done. The hygienist and dentist were both very rough and made me uncomfortable. They were also very messy and stained my shirt with their tools. Similar to other reviews, they told me I needed a number of follow up procedures, including having many cavities filled. I ended up canceling my follow up appointment. I don't feel inclined to go back after my bad experience and the other reviews definitely confirmed I wasn't the only one feeling this way. I can't say I'd trust these dentists. read more

This team is extremely unprofessional and borderline fraudulent/negligent - I would never ever ever recommend this practice to anyone. I was recommended to get two crowns by the team at Arlington Center for Dentistry last year. I was told by one of their dentists that the crowns looked good, and that I could just return for regular follow up. I ended up switching practices later that year, and was told by two separate dentists that the original crowns were placed improperly and that I would now need gum surgery to rectify their mistake, and replacement of the crowns. At this point, I have spent $3000 in total on these two teeth even after my dental insurance covered portions of my procedures. When I called their team to provide some compensation for their major mistakes, they stated that they could not provide anything outside of having one of their dentists take a look again. After they botched my teeth, I explained that it was ludicrous to trust their practitioner's judgment again, and that I had no desire to return to their office. They said they had "nothing else to offer". After this phone call, I thought perhaps I was crazy to ask for a refund, but have had multiple individuals INCLUDING my new dentists who agree that this is unacceptable behavior. This is unethical, and should not be accepted in any medical setting. In addition, I will corroborate some other reviews of the front staff being unresponsive and unprofessional. It took me 5+ calls over the period of a month to reach Tammy their office manager, after being promised multiple times that she would call me back. To add flame to the fire, Tammy was incredibly dismissive and lacked any empathy. I feel that I would be less angry had Tammy been a little more empathic, but unfortunately that was not her priority. read more

Dental appointments are the ones I dread scheduling the most...well because it's the dentist and I don't know anyone who likes it. However if you have to get dental work done then absolutely get it done at ACD! I've gotten cleanings, a root canal, gum surgery and now invisalign and I couldn't be happier! The staff is so friendly and informative and I always seem to be able to book an appointment with no muss or fuss! So the next time you're looking for a nice, clean, professional dental office where you can get any and everything done...find your own I want ACD all to myself! read more

Convenient, clean, efficient dental practice for those in the Clarendon area. I like that they have evening and weekend appointments. However, their cancellation policy is the major con -- they charge if you do not provide enough notice for your cancellation. It seems like they have a large practice and do well. Their interior does not look like a dental practice at all, more like a health spa. Great service overall. read more
