His chair was closest to Laurel Ave. He literally PUSHED my wife out of the way as he cut my hair at a ragingly rapid pace and paid no attention to my wife's request. Totally did what HE wanted not what WE wanted. Then today on a whim I stopped back and had Tom cut my hair. He was a younger man in his late 20's. I told his specifically what I wanted and he went to work. He took his time and did a great job. and got rave reviews from myself and my wife who is trying to let my hair grow out to a certain style. He took his time and even shaved the back of my neck which no one there had ever done. I tipped him heavily because he did a great job and was responsive to our needs for how I wanted my hair cut. If Empire keeps him I will be returning. He works on Wednesdays. He is friendly and engaging while he cuts and maybe it takes him a bit longer than the others who do what THEY want. If all the barbers there worked like Tom did, I would rate the place 5 stars. He single handedly redeemed Empire for me and if he stays there I will be a repeat customer. Thank you Tom for restoring my faith in competent hair cutters, not older guys who rush the job to get you outage door.

It's got an old timey mixed with modern punk kind of feel to it that I really am all about it. But the punk vibe is only that, because the guys here are as nice and helpful as can be. It had been a seriously long time since I've gotten my hair professionally cut and don't even really know what I can do with it, but I was in good hands with Robby (literally). He asked me a whole bunch of questions and gave me some ideas and I went for it and was incredibly happy with how everything turned out. So much so that I think I'll go back to having a barber on the regular again. At some point I would definitely want to try a professional shave too, but right now I don't have anything worth shaving! You can tell this place cares about community too, every one that popped in felt like they had been friends for years, and that's a kind of homey feeling I love to see in a local business. As soon as I came in, I was greeted with a professional handshake, and a sit down for shampoo and conditioner. I showed her a picture of the length I wanted, and she exceeded my expectations.
