I was paying over $100 for a trim in Williamsburgh, and thought it was about time to be done with that. Found this place on a recommendation from Reddit, looked into the reviews and gave it a shot. Scheduled a haircut with Stacey, who is the owner of the shop, through their online booking portal. As soon as I came in, I was greeted with a professional handshake, and a sit down for shampoo and conditioner. I showed her a picture of the length I wanted, and she exceeded my expectations. Even did some light layering on the back (whatever that means). It ended with a hot face towel and a light massage on my shoulders and neck, cleanup around the sideburns and back neck. All for $35. Unreal. What a steal and I will not be going anywhere else. Highly recommend. Finally, a salon dedicated to men. read more

I previously saw Gail here and I am very happy with their service. However, recently I had an appointment scheduled and shop canceled it. They attempted to reschedule my appointment and I was able to schedule my appointment for the next day. On the day of my new appointment, I went in for my appointment and to my surprise my appointment was never scheduled. Gail offered solutions to reschedule but at this point I have been far too flexible. I shouldn't need to a third appointment due to oversight. Over all it is very disappointing as Cleaverz does offer good service but this and other experiences makes it difficult to want to return. read more

I will never return to this establishment. I gave instructions on how I would like my haircut, but I didn't get anything close to what I asked for. Gail gave me the haircut she wanted, not the haircut I asked for and ultimately paid for. It will take three months for my hair to grow back to the length I want. Cleaverz has become my official barbershop after my barber left where I used to get my haircuts, and I found it on Yelp after I liked what I saw. The shop is located on the first floor of a building/house and has a nice porch on the front where you can wait outside if there is a line, but you make your appointments online, through an easy booking service, and can pay ahead of time so you don't have to worry about it when you get there. The girls that run the place are super friendly, very personable, easy to talk to and accommodating, but more importantly, they can cut hair. Each time I've got my cut there I say that it's a really great haircut, and I get compliments from it too when people see me after it's done. Also, a smooth Whiskey before the cut is a classy touch, a true gentleman pleaser for those that enjoy. Highly recommend, will be back often. read more

The haircut itself was fine. The first time I went was pre-COVID. The whole vibe of "dudes getting haircuts and neck massages from ladies" was super awkward and I just wanted to leave ASAP. The second time I went was during the peak of COVID, and I picked them because their website made it sound like they were taking the pandemic seriously, requiring masks and temperature checks, etc. What they *actually* did was hang around the porch without masks on, then while cutting my hair, she took OFF her mask, to sneeze into her hands, said "it's gross to sneeze into a mask", and then started touching my face while trimming around the edges and eyebrows. WTF? Anyway, never going there again. (And yes, this review has been in my Drafts ever since, but I'mma post it.) read more

Gail styled my hair today. CLEAVERZ was recommended to me by my son, a college student. We have had our hair styled at some of the top stylists in NYC. Some stylists will simply follow your directions, or not, adding nothing based upon their training and experience. Even worse is copying a style which may not suit your face. Gail gave value added by first examining my hair and making recommendations beyond my standard cut that I have requested for years. Style is a journey. I am confident that over the next several appointments Gail will help me to find the style that best suits me, rather than perpetuating the safe style to which I have become complacent. Her skills, experience, and good taste put her in a better position to suggest modifications than I can be. The haircut is well priced and full service-- wash, cut, hot towel and shoulder massage. Since started to grow my beard, I have been looking for a spot to get it shaped and cut and I found one place that I liked a lot, but it was a bit of a drive AND their schedule and mine never jived. Based on a recommendation, I tried Cleavers today... What a great experience, Gail got me started with a quick shampoo and then Stacey was awesome, made me feel relaxed and comfortable for my haircut and beard. The entire time it seemed like she was having fun shaping the mess on my head and face. It is rare to find someone who has been doing a job for years to have that much joie de vivre. A+ - Everything is as smooth as creamy hot chocolate on a cold dreary winter's night. From booking your appt., getting a text confirmation, then 45 min. before your appt. getting a reminder text, to no wait when you get there, to the lovely girls that work there, to the best pampering you'll ever get. As you can see from my avatar, I haven't had a haircut since 1999, but the beard style, hot shave and massage are second to none - I feel like I just experienced a mini-vacation when I leave Cleaverz. This is hands down, the best place to get your haircut. It says "upscale men's hair salon" in the name and they nail it! You walk in and they know your name. Its a small thing but its something most places never really do. You're offered complimentary drinks which is very nice. You're always given a nice hot towel inbetween your cut accompanied by a nice little massage to the shoulders. The place itself is also very cozy and welcoming. But the best part about the place are the three amazing women who run it. Stacy, Amanda and Gail are all awsome! I usually have trust issues when it comes to my hair so i only let certain people cut my hair as I'm sure plenty of other people do as well. However, I've had my hair cut by all three of them and my hair looks great every single time. You really can trust any one of the girls there. That also helps with scheduling an appointment because then you have more flexibility. The three of them really do breathe life into the place. If it wasn't for them, I'm pretty sure it just wouldn't be the same. They're all incredibly friendly and very fun to talk to as well. They also are very knowledgeable about everything hair as you might expect and the surrounding trends in the market. About a week ago, i got highlights in my hair and that was one of the boldest things I've done personally with my hair. Changing it like that really made me nervous because i had never done any sort of coloring or dye of any nature in my life but i really shouldn't have been worried because like i said earlier, you can trust these women. Simply put, i showed them what i wanted and they executed perfectly. You really can't ask much more and my hair came out awsome! I've been coming here now for about five months. Something about the atmosphere just relaxes you. There is always great conversation, great focus on details and quality work. You walk in, take a seat on a very comfortable couch while the ladies finish up their last appointment and are offered a beer (who doesn't like that!) When it's time for your cut, they start off with a great shampoo and walk over to the chair, nice consultation with making sure you are getting exactly what you want. When the hair cut is done, they give you a hot towel on your face and a nice shoulder massage for a few minutes. A quick straight razor to clean up the edges of your cut and your relaxed, and ready for another month of looking great. Honestly, I know many people would say "$30 for a haircut, I can go to the barber and get it done for $14". Trust me, it's worth ever dollar. If you want a nice sharp shape up, nice fade, and all around straight edges, Don't come here. If you'd like a regular trim, nothing major just scissors and no clippers then be my guest and drop $35 on a haircut.
