Was it because my husband was wearing a Marine baseball cap and a Harley t shirt? She probably assumed he was a MAGA supporter or maybe she was racist because we're an interracial couple? We felt very unwelcome there. Luckily the unpleasant employee stepped away and the other manager helped us with our purchases. I will never return to this place. I'm not sure how, but I lived in the area for 11 years before I knew this place existed! now it's one of my go-tos for fresh, locally roasted coffee. I will often pick up a bottle of wine and some single origin chocolate when I am there as well. They have beans from all over the world, including Hawaii (it's hard to get Hawaiian coffee here on the mainland,), and every bag is dated with the roast-on date AND the best-by date, which is three months from the roast dat. That's the way it should be. The staff are very knowledgeable, so I usually have them suggest something for me so I can try a bunch of things and never get stuck in a rut. But if you like what you like and always want to get it you will probably do fine here as well. Their lightest roasts are more like a medium, and that is about as dark as I get. but they are uniformly good. And if you want some decaf that is fresh, and made with excellent single origin beans, or a blend that is made on-site, this is the place for that. read more

Wow, the wonder of this coffee roaster. I have been to some other coffee shops but nothing like this. I came up for their anniversary wine tasting and ended up leaving with not only wine but chocolate and coffee as well! I ended up buying the Kenya Peakville and I LOVE IT!!!!!! Everyone that works there was very helpful and extremely friendly. The parking isnt really ideal but I would take that drive again anyday! read more

Armenos used to be great. They are OK now. Can't seem to roast enough of what customers want. Three times out of the last four I can't get what they say they have, Wachusett Blend. This has been going on a year now. Hey Armenos! Roast more of what people want!! Why is this so hard to understand to adjust your operations? But what reduces you to two stars is the snippy girl you have working there. As I said "I give up", after trying many ways to get substitutes (that didn't cost $1 or more a pound, including the one on your board falsely advertised), and quietly walked out, I hear "Have a NICE day" behind me. This does NOT help! I am NOT getting what I want, and she is oh-so-effing cheerful about it! FIRE HER, or train her. And by the way, ROAST MORE WACHUSETT BLEND! Or don't advertise you have it in the first place. But wondering why I went across the street to Berberians and found a pound of it there. Seriously - get your business operations together. I'll revise this quick hit review after trying a few more of their coffees. The beans I bought on my first trip were wonderful and obviously quite freshly roasted. Although they had a few ready-made coffees for sale by the cup this isn't a sit down coffee cafe. One warning -- if you're approaching on Otis Street from Route 9, you'll being heading towards the back of the store. The front and parking lot (see photo I posted) are right on a really dangerous and hilly curve in the road. So go slow and look for the back of the old mill building on your right before you see the parking lot or a sign. read more

I love this place. They have a wide variety of coffee, from the regular to the obscure, and they really know their stuff. They will be happy to describe, explain and make recommendations. I particularly appreciate that they offer light, dark and medium roasts. I'm not a fan of the sort of dark, heavy coffee popularized by places like Starbucks and Peets. I prefer a lighter, smoother coffee. I also prefer South American and Hawaiian coffees to African. Plenty of options here no matter what your tastes. It's just a few blocks from Wegman's where we do our usual shopping, so the location isn't bad, but the hours never seem to coincide with when we are there, so sadly we don't go as often as we'd like. The price for coffee here is comparable to other gourmet coffee, which means much higher than even high-end super market coffee or dunkin donuts. so maybe it's just as well that they are an occasional indulgence for us. (Your basic Colombian coffee is about $12 a lb and it goes up from there.). But so worth it! Note that this isn't a "coffee shop" in the sense of a cafe where you can sit and order baked goods and read your paper. It's a store front with a roasting facility in the back. They may sell coffee by the cup but they mostly sell bags of roasted coffee, and a very small selection of other gourmet items like tea and chocolate. (It also isn't a gourmet food shop ala Cardullo's or Savenor's. Really, it's all about the coffee.) PS: last year for Christmas I got a small bag of Blue Mountain coffee from Armeno and it stands alone as the best coffee I've ever had. Ever. Too bad about that $60 a lb price tag. read more

These people are expert coffee roasters and my standard order is Sumatra Mandheling French Roast. I especially like the dark roasts. Of course I always spend way more than the price of 1lb of coffee since they have excellent wines in the back of the store. As you can gather, this is a full service coffee roaster. I have been a customer since they opened in the mid `90's. The staff is excellent and the ownership is everything you'd want from a small business. They make the best coffee I have ever found anywhere, and I travel all over North America. I often search out coffee shops and roasters to replace the crap that is in my hotel room. I haven't found a place anywhere to match the Italian or French Roast of the Summatra coffees that they make. Most places do a normal city roast, which fails to capitalize on the richness of those beans. An added note that the few recent reviews have not mentioned, they offer a variety of coffee each day to sample. Its just a cool thing that they do for their customers. And their pricing is extremely competetive that once you realize that all the coffee has either been roasted the day before or that week, you are getting the freshest coffee around. That makes any price difference meaninless. read more

I like to give each day an equal chance at being excellent by preparing my coffee myself in the morning and enjoying it in a leisurely manner. Armeno's is my preferred source for coffee beans. The quality of the product is excellent and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful (which is great because there is a wide variety of origins, roasts and blends). They will grind your coffee appropriately for your brewing method or sell it to you whole. The prices are appropriate for what you are getting and it works out to be a superior product and less expensive than going to Starbucks or dunks all the time. They also sell brewed coffee and iced coffee if you want to grab a cup. Watch for wine tastings there, too. I've only attended once but I was with friends who have better taste in wine than me and they were impressed with the experience. read more

I consider myself very fortunate to have Armeno's located so close to where I live. I would travel 20+ miles every week to get their coffee beans if I had to. I prefer dark roasts (such as Cowboy Coffee), but I am now hooked on the fair trade organic blend. It is way better than any coffee beans from a grocery store and I like the idea of supporting a local business. In addition, their frequent buyer promotion is great as well. I lived in Northborough through my childhood so I would stop into Armeno occasionally - I remember making trips there in the early 1990'a with my parents, I was given an empty burlap sack once that had "Kenya" written on it. The I grew up, moved about 30 minutes away and really became a coffee aficionado - I was looking for a nice local roaster and was making the drive in to Worcester (about an hour) but that was too tiresome. I live nearby Red Barn Coffee (Hopkinton) but their coffee is too light for my taste; even their darkest roasts are too bitter for me. It finally hit me one day - why not check out Armeno? I make the 30 min trek weekly (sometimes biweekly) and my favorite is their Sumatra Takengon. They roast their coffees perfectly, the cup is dark yet smooth, full of flavor and not too light. I make a French press every day so I have them grind it coarse for me - they heat seal the bags so they will stay fresher than normal ground coffee would. Check this place out, especially if you live within 30 minutes. You'll never buy your beans from Starbucks or Dunks ever again. read more

I have been by here a thousand times. I was a snowy cold day and decided to stop in. I was met by the owner. He has owned the business for 20 some odd years. He gave me a great tour of the facality, offered a tasting and help me pick out 2 bags of the most fantastic coffee. (One mild and one strong) He expained the roast and what makes the "favors"of the coffees (nutty, chocolate etc). This remains one of my favorite coffee roasters! I go every month to stock up on their jeans, Cowboy blend being a favorite! I give their coffee to friends to try as so many are missing out! I've started trying their chocolates and gave a bunch out at Easter, and of course have one of their thermos coffee mugs, worth the investment if you're someone who drinks your coffee slowly but like it kept warm! If you're around the area, and tend to like stronger coffee such as starbucks and peet's, you should go here. It's a bit pricier but you could start off with one of the cheaper blends, such as sumatra. It's bold and delicious. All of their indonesian coffees are fantastic but I can't speak about the american or african. Owners seem to always be there and are extremely friendly and helpful to new customers. Coffee is roasted in the building; you can verify this just by the smell. The parking lot is a bit dangerous so make sure you check the mirror on the telephone pole before exiting. I'm assuming this mill is historic and there was no way for them to make a safer parking lot so I am still giving Armeno five stars. read more
