Wow, the wonder of this coffee roaster. I have been to some other coffee shops but nothing like this. I came up for their anniversary wine tasting and ended up leaving with not only wine but chocolate and coffee as well! I ended up buying the Kenya Peakville and I LOVE IT!!!!!! Everyone that works there was very helpful and extremely friendly. The parking isnt really ideal but I would take that drive again anyday!

    Yum!

Armeno Coffee Roasters is an independently owned coffee company located in the heart of Central Massachusetts since 1994. We roast only mid-crop, 100% Arabica beans from around the world. We specialize in providing you with only the finest, freshest coffees available by roasting daily, to fill your order. Owners Chuck Coffman and John Parks share your love for coffee. Their passion is visible in the quality of the beans, the devotion to roasting and the attention to customer needs. Where else can any customer - retail or wholesale - call the roastmaster with a coffee question? Armeno is located in Northborough, Massachusetts, in a historic mill on Smith Pond. We live and work in a small New England town, but our reach is worldwide. Our customers include a café in Taiwan, and British food writer Jon Thorn recommends Armeno in "The Coffee Companion: The Connoisseur's guide to the World's Best Brews." As members of the local and global community, we try to give back when we can. Armeno donates more than a thousand pounds of coffee each year to Central Massachusetts food banks, as well as offers fresh-brewed coffee at charity fundraisers across Massachusetts and New England. In addition, Armeno proudly offers fair-trade coffees, so our customers know the estate workers earn a good wage. We also sell organically grown coffees, offering an environmentally sensitive choice.

I'll revise this quick hit review after trying a few more of their coffees. The beans I bought on my first trip were wonderful and obviously quite freshly roasted. Although they had a few ready-made coffees for sale by the cup this isn't a sit down coffee cafe. One warning -- if you're approaching on Otis Street from Route 9, you'll being heading towards the back of the store. The front and parking lot (see photo I posted) are right on a really dangerous and hilly curve in the road. So go slow and look for the back of the old mill building on your right before you see the parking lot or a sign.

As for food: -- Cranberry Orange Scone: Superb. Slightly sweet, a little biscuity, with good moistness and understated glaze that lets the base shine. Sometimes warm. -- Chocolate Croissant: I doubt this is made in house. Flaky, yes, but something's off. Seems like a prefab product from the freezer section. You can do much better than this. -- Rugelach: Very rich with potent Nutella flavor. A little greasy, but in a good way. Small but packs a flavor wallop. -- Cinnamon Bun: Decent. Nice moist glaze and a somewhat dry winding dough. -- Brioche Bun: A small round braided number similar to a pain swisse but also a Scandinavian bun, with custard and chocolate chips. Innovative, but dry and rubbery. Good coffee and good atmosphere, but a mixed bag on the morning treats, with some hits and misses. Order what works for you and you should be happy, especially when comparing against similar places in the immediate area or distant 'burbs. Just don't expect Boston quality and you'll be fine.

And I also have the old fashioned. It was delicious. They made it with hard grapefruit seltzer that they brew themselves. It is very refreshing. I also tried the seasonal latte flight, a cider donut and the banana brûlée latte. I was very pleased with the peppermint mocha. It was minty but not overly so. The gingerbread latte was the best flavor. The cookie butter latte was good. And the vanilla cardamom was my least favorite. I would have liked more of the cardamom flavor. I like that you can try all the seasonal flavors but I would like it better if it was customizable instead of being preset. The service is pretty good. I think you can open a tab or you pay each time you order. There is no waitressing, so they call you up to the bar to get your order and you bring back your dishes to a corner of the counter. The bar/beer side was pretty slow service. I waited for a while to place my order but once I placed my order it wasn't too long before I received my drink.

Their coffee remains consistent and they brew the best bean in town. Truly a hidden gem...literally. They're hidden in the back of Rotmans (old furniture store) and you'll never see it from the main road. I drink coffee on a regular basis and could probably consider myself an amateur coffee snob lol. Lately I have made a purchase for teas and my wife didn't like the selections I've chose so they were welcoming and honored an exchange. I just had to pay the difference which I was glad to. We had good company with us and so there's also ample seating in the next room--you can enter from the front of the building as you enter through the main entrance or go through the back. Cheers

I stopped by to get a couple of coffees to go, and a pastry. The staff was very patient and pleasant to chat with - something I really miss with the larger coffee chains. The coffees were made exactly as I requested, and the pastry was warmed up and wrapped in a foil to maintain the heat. I really love the attention to detail. I'll note that I noticed they use Monin brand syrups (my favorite!). They are not the cheapest option, so it goes to show that the folks at Acoustic Java care about quality over maximizing profit. The location is great - a bit hidden, but the industrial vibe just fits for a small roasting company. I love that the roastery is visible through the glass panels. The packaged beans are all laid out for you to easily read the labels and shop. I love that they carry quality tea for non-coffee drinkers/tea lovers. The merch is also cute, I was very tempted to add yet another coffee shop tote bag to my hoard. They carry a huge variety of used and new books - and they offer the most unique pricing I've ever seen. You can look up the cost of the book online - so long as the condition is roughly the same, that's how much they will charge you for the book (+ tax)! That's amazing, and I don't know how they can possibly even make money with this policy, but with the giant chain and online retailers, it's really the best incentive to get folks to support local. I think one of the biggest highlights here, on top of the great coffee, ambiance, and service, is that they offer various tastings, classes, and live music events. Personally, I feel like this is key in building a community, and I love that they do this. You can look up the different events on their website, some of which are free to attend. I can definitely see this as a place to come read a book over some tea, catch up with a friend over coffee, or take a date to a barista class for a unique experience.

We left with a few bottles at balsamic and a bottle of olive oil. They sell different sized bottles, too, and they bottle it right in front of you.
