I really love finding hidden gems like Acoustic Java. I am a sucker for a good book store, AND a good coffee shop, and Acoustic Java is both! I stopped by to get a couple of coffees to go, and a pastry. The staff was very patient and pleasant to chat with - something I really miss with the larger coffee chains. The coffees were made exactly as I requested, and the pastry was warmed up and wrapped in a foil to maintain the heat. I really love the attention to detail. I'll note that I noticed they use Monin brand syrups (my favorite!). They are not the cheapest option, so it goes to show that the folks at Acoustic Java care about quality over maximizing profit. The location is great - a bit hidden, but the industrial vibe just fits for a small roasting company. I love that the roastery is visible through the glass panels. The packaged beans are all laid out for you to easily read the labels and shop. I love that they carry quality tea for non-coffee drinkers/tea lovers. The merch is also cute, I was very tempted to add yet another coffee shop tote bag to my hoard. They carry a huge variety of used and new books - and they offer the most unique pricing I've ever seen. You can look up the cost of the book online - so long as the condition is roughly the same, that's how much they will charge you for the book (+ tax)! That's amazing, and I don't know how they can possibly even make money with this policy, but with the giant chain and online retailers, it's really the best incentive to get folks to support local. I think one of the biggest highlights here, on top of the great coffee, ambiance, and service, is that they offer various tastings, classes, and live music events. Personally, I feel like this is key in building a community, and I love that they do this. You can look up the different events on their website, some of which are free to attend. I can definitely see this as a place to come read a book over some tea, catch up with a friend over coffee, or take a date to a barista class for a unique experience. read more

I owe an updated review here. My past review had been negative but I welcomed to give Acoustic Java another chance and I'm glad I did. Their coffee remains consistent and they brew the best bean in town. Truly a hidden gem...literally. They're hidden in the back of Rotmans (old furniture store) and you'll never see it from the main road. I drink coffee on a regular basis and could probably consider myself an amateur coffee snob lol. Lately I have made a purchase for teas and my wife didn't like the selections I've chose so they were welcoming and honored an exchange. I just had to pay the difference which I was glad to. We had good company with us and so there's also ample seating in the next room--you can enter from the front of the building as you enter through the main entrance or go through the back. Big city girl in town to visit family and needed a place to work (and escape from family). I loved this place! So much better than the Starbucks I resorted to before discovering Acoustic Java. The coffee is great, the space is huge, with big windows on one side and a cozy lived-in vibe on the other side. It was pretty empty on a summer day but I'm sure it's busier when the college students are around. The coffee was fantastic and they even had gluten free treats. Super vibey coffee shop- I love the industrial feel and the peek into the roasters through the big windows. There are books everywhere and a big coffee/tea menu. They were busy when I was there and my only critique is that they may have been understaffed for a Saturday morning. I got a gluten free cookie (ok but not great) and a dirty pumpkin chai (yummy). Very good coffee. I really like that you can get a ceramic mug, not just a paper cup. I usually drink Americano black, it is really hard to hide bad coffee in a black Americano. First time in today and the last. I was excited to try this place but what a disappointment. There was no line. When I walked in, I didn't see anyone behind the counter. So I used the self serve kiosk. But still no one came. I made eye contact several times with two men who were talking behind the windows in the restricted area. I went into the other room to see if anyone working was back there. Finally I was about to knock on the glass when the young man came out. I asked if he worked there and he rudely answered "of course". So I told him that I had placed an order a while ago and could he please get it for me. Again, he was snippy when he said "of course" again. If I hadn't already paid on the kiosk, I would have walked out several times by then. When I finally got my coffee, it was cold and bitter. Like it had been sitting. I was never welcomed into the shop, never thanked for my purchase. Or treated with the slightest curtesy or even basic manners. Seems like a nice vibe, visually. Too bad the staff clearly needs the most basic customer service training. read more

I have been to this coffee shop several times and always enjoyed the vibe and the coffee but unfortunately I went in last week to purchase a bag of coffee and when I walked in there were two people working behind the counter a man and a woman, each one was talking to a person but no transactions were taking place. I spent approximately 10 minutes picking out my coffee then I proceeded to to wait to pay for my coffee. Neither employee stopped their socializing to help me. After at least 5 minutes of waiting by the register I left my coffee and walked out. Needless to say I was disappointed. I paid $22 for a pound of coffee beans. The description was of vanilla, caramel and cocoa. The coffee actually had a bold burnt pineapple flavor. Interestingly another dark roast bag of coffee contained this description of the beans within its bag. They put the wrong beans in the bag. The coffee is undrinkable and I'm out $22. Great place! Love the ambiance and feel and how it's homey, yet trendy and "feels like you're in a roaster" type of feeling. This coffee shop is somewhat hard to find as its tucked behind a neighborhood on one side, and behind another big building on the other side but it is so worth visiting! Stepping into Acoustic Java felt like stepping into Hogwarts; like I'd discovered a whole world that not everyone gets the privilege to with the endless books lining the front wall, the dark and wooden feel to the furniture, and just a magic touch that they deliver in the way the staff treats customers. The menu is extensive, and it appears as if their coffee is fresh roasted which is an added bonus; on top of that, they serve their drinks in cute cups which adds to the experience. My drinks, a decaf oat milk cortado, and a Rishi Jade Cloud tea, were both *delicious*! I typically order my cortados with some flavoring but the espresso they use was flavorful enough on its own-bright and fruity- and the Rishi tea was strong (just the way I like it), loose leaf (which I prefer), and subtly floral. Bravo, Acoustic Java! You're doing a superb job! If I lived in the area, I'd be a regular, but I'll just have to settle for visiting every chance I get when I'm in town. read more

This is one of my favorite spots of all time to get coffee. Whether I'm grabbing a cup to go, a latte while I'm doing work, or some freshly roasted beans for home, everything I've ordered from here has been a huge hit. One of my favorite deals that they have is if you buy a bag of coffee beans, you get a free coffee. On top of that, all of your purchases earn you points which you can save up for a certain dollar amount off of your order. My wife and I start our day off with a French press at home, so we go through beans quite fast. It's always a treat because we try a new bean/roast every time from their fairly large selection and I get a nice cup for the road. So far, my favorite has been the Peas in a Pod, which is made with peaberry beans. Peaberries are beans that basically absorbed the nutrients from its twin bean inside the fruit. This blend has tons of awesome earthy and nutty notes, but isn't too intense, so it's very welcoming to all coffee drinkers. They do great specialty drinks and from what I've had, pretty solid food options if you're looking for a bite to eat. I highly recommend visiting this coffee shop if you're in the area. I have yet to find an area where they needed improvement. This is the place I will miss the most when we're done with our work in Massachusetts. read more

I'm not from the area but when I visit different places I love to try the local coffee shops. My order was a large ice lavender latte macchiato, and beware the large size here is HUGE! Still not complaining cause I definitely needed the caffeine that day. My sister did have a dirty chai latte and it was disappointing and ultimately we ended up tossing it out. Given it's a 50/50 of having something yummy, mine was delicious enough to stop by again the next time we're in Worcester! read more

I normally love this place, but my last visit left me feeling frustrated. Since COVID, I understand why things are harder for establishments to manage the flow of customers and am sympathetic to this. My last visit I witnessed other orders get botched, customers picked up the wrong items, things got confusing. Their system for handling takeout orders seems very disorganized and is constantly changing, but not for the better. My order was messed up, I paid an extra $3 to get a quarter of an avocado added to two different items and neither had avocado. Normally I wouldn't mind, but damn is that expensive! Will not go back until I can sit in the cafe. read more

This is probably my favorite coffee shop I have found in the Worcester area. The coffee is great, staff is always friendly, and they just actually expanded their place to include more seating/room for events. This is a great spot to come to do work or even meet up with someone for a coffee date as it is not too loud and not usually too crowded. I can't speak for their food because I have not ordered food from here yet, but the variety is wide and seems well liked. Where was this place when I went to college?! Very few coffee shops that I visit make flat whites well, and Accoustic Java does it right. There's a huge glass window in the shop and you can see the roasters. I'd love to come back here for a tour. There's a number of teas available, as well as Polar Seltzers. Funky art is hung up around the place for purchase. There's also several bookshelves of used books. This is a great place for coffee or tea, a small pastry, or just hanging out. read more

Atmosphere is pretty good, owner is very nice and welcoming, has lots of books if you're interested in sitting for a bit and drinking coffee. They have a back room that'll eventually be opened for private events and stuff but right now it is perfect to sit in and hangout. Good availability of parking. Now for the coffee, I can only speak for the cappuccino. I have had it twice so far and would rate it a 3.5/5, it was pretty thin and didn't have a very good defined, espresso flavor, tasted similar to starbucks rather than roasted in house, fresh, single origin espresso. It was however, consistent among two different baristas, relatively on par pricing as well. I would say if you like starbucks espresso drinks you should like this place. If you are looking for closer to third wave coffee, try another shop. read more

Wow! Stopped in here on a Wednesday afternoon. We were greeted warmly and the atmosphere is very cozy, hip and open. Everything was very clean and all safety precautions were put into place and I felt very safe ordering and enjoying my drink. They have a few tables outside or you can take your drink to-go. They have plenty of options and I loved their milk options. They have oat milk which was awesome! I don't typically see that. My iced chai latte was creamy and made perfectly. I ordered a medium and it was a big medium... I probably only needed a small! But happy I had extra. Wear your mask and keep your distance when ordering and enjoy! Can't wait to go back. It should be a 6-7 star rating for this place. The staff is great, very knowledgeable and friendly. The owner is normally there and he is attentive you your needs as well. Very roomy and tons of outlets to plug in your computers! There is no sign from the street, so trust your GPS and get there. As they grow so will the menu but for now I would HIGHLY suggest the Whole grain toast w/ butter spread and honey...YUM! They even have swag, I got some t-shirts and a travel cup for the road. If you like tea, they have a HUGE selection of tea for you to choose from...I went with the green mango. After being told every cup of coffee I ever had was stale and bad, I went on the search for a local coffee roaster. Enter Acoustic Java. Their beans are freshly roasted, and offer a totally different experience. The flavor is amazing, and the buzz is nice and consistent, free from jitters and crashes. There is just something different about this coffee that my body just likes better. Spectacular product. I bought 3 bags, and got a free bag and free cup of coffee. Considering they sell 16oz vs 12oz bags, the price is very reasonable, especially compared to the swill you buy at the grocery store. Really nice comfortable coffeehouse with some amazing coffee. They roast right on site, and you can buy fresh roasted whole beans from different parts of the world. The also made an amazing specialty rasberry white chocolate latte which was really a work of art and so delicious,. I had a regular latte with whole milk, and it was thick, creamy, and perfect.
