Armor Coating did a fantastic job to bring back our community pool cool deck back to life. Our pool had been in disrepair and poorly patched so many times. It looked awful. I saw there ad in home improvement flyer. What caught my eye was the statement that they don't have to tear up my driveway. We loved the process they use. Antonio and his crew were always on time 8:00 each day. They wore the masks when dealing with us. We wanted a color for the flagstone design to complement our brick work. Antonio made a sample flagstone so we could see what the final project. He did the same for the grout. They worked for a total of 6 days. The final sealant coat was added today. I called this company 3 months ago to patch some places to match the existing concrete floor that they put in for me. They gave me an estimate and said that they would put me on the schedule when they could. A month later they call to say that I'm on the schedule for 2 months out. The day they are scheduled to be here I had to call the company because no one showed up. I was told that they were finishing up a job and that someone would be there the next morning at 8. I callEd them at 9 that morning because no one showed up. They said they were still on that job and would be there that afternoon. No one showed up. I got a call the next morning from the scheduling manager saying that he would personally be out there that afternoon to start my job. Nobody showed up and I didnt get any calls saying they could not make it. I called to speak to a manager this morning and I get a call back saying they are just too busy to do my job. Three months!!! I waited 3 months for them only to cancel on me and have them tell me I would need to find someone else. They need to be upfront about this, if they had told me originally they could not do it I would have been able to have my floor done by now. read more

I originally had Jim come out to do our garage floor which we did with an epoxy paint chip system that turned out super nice! I was so happy that we had Jim come out and do the entire front and back and side yards with custom cement cutouts. We also had him to the front of our house (the walls) with hand carved stone. We were going to end there but we decided on getting rid of our carpet and most of the hardwood and doing a custom stain on the inside and a liquid dazzle epoxy downstairs. Only issue is that I wasn't informed about the the fact that the stain that was applied may not have been appropriate for a wet pool area as we've encountered repeated slipping incidents. This is for a garage floor epoxy coat that worked out splendidly. Asked for a quote on yelp, got a call back within 5 minutes. I emailed measurements from Garage and some photos. Jessica sent a good quote the next day. We set a date, Crew arrived on time and now it's all installed. After a day I found that a bug got sucked into the epoxy and texted Jim (on Saturday night) about what I should do, and I got my answer in 5 minutes. Last week I had my pool deck re-coated. I originally wanted the surface re-stained and sealed but the stain was a disaster. Instead of matching the existing color it came out with patches of different colors. So on advice of the job supervisor we switched to a solid color which looks very good. The reason for my low rating is that dealing with the company's owner was very frustrating. He was very hard to contact and rude. I will not go back for any new project in the future. read more

I have written very few reviews since joining Yelp a few years ago. I was really struck by how unprofessional Jim the owner was, so wanted to leave some feedback. My contractor arranged a meeting time with Jim (at my house), and 20 minutes after the appt time, no Jim. My contractor tried calling him a few times, and left a message with the office manager. Jim called back a bit later and said he had a scheduling snafu and could be at my house in about 20 minutes. I decided to wait and give him a chance despite the bad first impression. When Jim showed up, he seemed very professional, took measurements, etc. He gave me an estimate that seemed reasonable, so i told him i wanted to move forward as quickly as possible. He told me that he could start the job the 20th of April. I said great. He then sent me a contract that i was to sign and return, along with a check for 10% of the job. I had a quick call with him after receiving the contract to clarify a few items, and as we were hanging up, he happens to throw out that he will try to start on the 20th (the date we agreed to). This didn't sit well with me. I don't want to send a check without knowing when the job will start. So, i called Jim today to confirm the start date. I left a message and didn't get a call back. I waited a few hours and then called him again just a few moments ago, and explained that i needed to clean out my garage, store everything somewhere else, and arrange my calendar so i could be present when he starts the job. All i wanted to do was to confirm the date that he had given to me. His response was that i was just in too much of a hurry for them, and he would pass on my job. It seems like a lot of people have been happy with Jim, so maybe this is an isolated instance. Either way, I will work with my contractor to find someone who wants my job. read more

Our 2 year old condominium building in Santa Cruz had a terrible cement problem on all three exterior floors. Cracks, stains and uneven surfaces made the atrium floor and front landings look like floors in a third world prison. In January I contacted Jim Sisco at Armor Coatings who drove over from San Jose to see our problem floors. Jim was very knowledgeable and made recommendations as to solutions. The next day he followed up with formal quotes for all 3 floors. Due to other construction work we had going on in our building, we were not able to commit to a schedule. For 6 months, Jim's assistant Alison kept in contact with me so that they could schedule us when we were ready. Alison was very friendly and customer focused. I appreciated her informational calls and emails. Two weeks ago we gave Armor the green light to start. The crew showed up on the date as promised and went to work. This was a very complex job given we had 3 floors with 18 units and had to work around each homeowners schedule. The Armor crew was very accommodating, respectful and friendly to all homeowners. The Armor supervisor for our job was Robert Saretti, who from day one showed me that he is a top notch professional who takes great pride in his work. More than just being a "cement guy," Robert is an artist. He understood our building architecture and made suggestions to me as to what color stains he thought would look best and that really helped me. He then skillfully took our terrible cement pallet and turned it into a beautiful masterpiece with a textured natural flagstone appearance. Alison, in the office, was great with follow-ups. Matt was the lead on the project and it was very clear that he takes great pride in his work. He's methodical and thorough. He and his crew arrived ~6:30 am each day and began moving in the equipment -- it would take a while because of the walk from the truck, across the yard and up a long set of steps. They were very unobtrusive and kept the area quite clean. They did talk me upgrading to the hand-carved flagstone pattern, and they were right. The result is better than I could have imagined. I had two projects that needed attention when I contacted Armor Coating. The first was a patio slab that was cracked and discolored and looked old and worn. Armor Coating put a coating on the patio slab and made it look new and fresh. The second project was a large concrete porch in the entry way to a house. The cracks were large and uneven and I had accepted the fact that I would probably have to tear out the porch and replace it with new concrete. I contacted Armor Coating and Jim told me that he could make the porch look like new with no interference to tenants and no down time. They put on a coating and integrated the cracks into a design of stone and grout stepping stones. It came out great with a great design and color and is a serious upgrade to the entry to this home. In dealing with Armor Coating my experience was that they were knowledgeable and considerate to the needs of my tenants, their price was sell below what it would cost to tear out the projects, they were prompt and left the job neat and clean. This is a professional organization with top notch people from the workmen, who were workmanlike and considerate, the the estimator and the office personnel. I will definitely work with this company again and the entire experience was upfront and professional. read more

Do not hire Armor Coating. They installed a polished concrete floor in our house. Not only did they never show up when they said they would come, they dragged the project on for an additional two months. The workmanship was so poor that we were able to recover 2/3 of the cost of the installation from their bond. Even the investigator agreed that the work was substandard.The owner was difficult and hostile. They left concrete spray all over our screens. There is a lump of concrete in the bathroom and they didn't bother closing any of the doors while the floor was drying, so there are bits of debris between the concrete polish and the outer coating. In addition to even this, they insisted on tacking on multiple costs that we never agreed to or discussed into the contract. There are plenty of other options besides Armor Coating. read more

High quality work. My garage looks great! The job required some cement repairs in addition to the epoxy seal. They did a very good job.

We were introduced to Armor Coatings by Westcoat, the maker of a system to use epoxy coated pebbles as an overlay. Armor gave us a bid which was competitive with competitive overlays of other types. The bid was prompt. The job itself was a series of blunders, and took 6 weeks after being projected as one. Our concrete area has steps and is installed over a crawl space. Waterproofing was of prime importance for the job. The slope of the surface was to be adjusted to create the proper slope, which Westcoat specifies as 1/4 inch per foot. The surface in our case is framed by wood siding on a railing and a planter. At first they proposed to apply the overlay up against the wood. Westcoat specifies flashing in such cases. Only after we pointed out that fact did they determine to trim the wood siding to allow waterproofing to go under the frame. This necessitated extra time to redo the waterproofing. We tested the waterproofing when we were advised it was "finished" and found that water was standing in a number of areas and was seeping through the underlying concrete. They came back and put on another layer of waterproofing. At no time did they ever test for slope and water tightness. They left that to us. It was not successful. Without the correct flashing, it still leaked. In the end we had to hire a second firm, also suggested by Westcoat, to come out and install the correct flashing, then fill the gaps with new pebbles. Some Westcoat products are simple. Some are very technical. If you get a bid from Armor , or anyone else, it should be specific about the slope that will be created, any processes such as flashing or taping cracks, and it should specify the coverage- ie. Install waterproofing at minimum X gallons per square foot. Only if that is done do you get a Warranty from Westcoat, which is why you paid up in the first place. We did not get warranty coverage, or a reliable attractive job, in this case. read more
