I came in on a mission: native milkweed--but got introduced to Silky Gold that can bloom flowers! Cool. I had a genuinely pleasant experience thanks to one of the staff. A kind, middle-aged gentleman (I regret not catching his name!) helped by walking me to that section and must of picked up my "keen skills being a BROWN thumb". He helped me remove most of the aphid bugs (yellow critters that eats all the plant nutrients). I was blessed to even had a butterfly followed me home!! Wow. He even gave me a few helpful tips on planting and caring for it to attract monarchs. Thank you much!!! I was way too excited to look at their large selection that I completely forgot to take pictures! Absolutely love their wide range of plants. They have flowers, fruit trees, succulents, indoor plants and trees, bonsais and Im sure a ton more that we didnt look at. We came mostly to look for some indoor houseplants and left with 3! I have never owned any plants so I was completely clueless in what would be a good starter plant. Thankfully when you check out, the cashiers will tell you more about the plants and how to care for them. Granted the guy explaining to us wasnt very clear, but you get a gist of it. They have their own parking lot and carts to help with carrying all the plants you plan to get. Great still to interact with graduate Jason of Cal Poly, Tammy who helped me discover a lovely anthurium---given as condolence memory for a family member that passed. Many casualties post COVID19 for our community. This Christmas past they offered a wide array of poinsettias (pink ones). Wisdom was given freely and included latin names of the creations by Armstrong and Monrovia selections. New Age was playing during my last visit, fountains bubbled in the sun and small thoughtful displays were abundant. Roses were pruned. A White Star Magnolia was right of the entry. Very disappointing. website indicated the plant I was looking for was available. When I got to the location, none was in stock...Strike 1. I ordered and paid for three plants. The sales associate told me it would be 2 weeks for the order to come in. However, 3 weeks later, I received a call my order was ready for pick-up...Strike 2., a day and a half later, I went to pick up my order, but my plants couldn't be found. After some time, they found one of the three. Apparently, my plants were sold to other customers...Strike 3, I'm out. Very disappointing. My experience with the sales staff was very positive. They seem to be very knowledgeable. It's a shame because I would have liked to have developed a relationship with this nursery. read more

Great selection of Pesticide Free Native California plants! . It's very hard to find nurseries that have a good selection of native plants and seeds. La Habra Armstrong stands out in its amazing selection of native plants and even trees , I was able to pick up a young sequoia which are some of the most famous redwoods in the world. The best part is majority of the plants are never treated with synthetic pesticides or fertilizers so you can be confident wherever you choose to add you're plants. I really notice the life in my garden enjoying the native plants far more than non-native. This has encouraged me to do as much native as I can, not to mention its unique from the boring desert non-native landscapes I see mostly around Orange County and it's already water-wise since it's native! I've bought thousands in native plants from here even some native strawberries which are amazingly sweet. They often have stuff at different stages 1-3 year old plants which gives you plenty of selection based on the space you have available. Can't recommend this spot enough!. read more

So very disappointed. Came in because our Monarch caterpillars had run out of milkweed plant. The man that helped me assured me that the plants were pesticide free. $80 later, we went home with 2 new plants and were happy that we would save more Monarchs. As of today, they are all dying on the new plants. I guess people will say anything to make a sale. If he wasn't sure, he should have asked a manager or have been honest with us. Monarchs are slated to be listed endangered in 2024, if they already aren't. I had about 10 healthy caterpillars that will not make it because these plants do, indeed, have pesticides. Spent about an hour there without anyone even pretending to want to help. I think it is poor service to never acknowledge a person wanting to spend money at your place. I could have spent a lot but I lost interest and did not know if I asked a person if they knew what they were talking about or just a basic worker. It's not hard to tell a customer if they need anything or have any questions let them know. I'll spend my money elsewhere. read more

After our local nursery closed, we decided to venture out to surrounding areas and were very happy to find this gem. Armstrong has a great selection of not just flowers and plants for the garden, but furniture and other decorative items for your yard and/or garden. We've been looking all over trying to find some water plants for our koi pond. Came across this place and finally was able to find what we were looking for. The people there were super informative about how to plant and take care of the lotus plant we just bought. The person at the cashier even talked me out of buying the pot which he and my wife both deemed unnecessary. It is honest business practice like this that create customer loyalty and make them want to come back. Sorry I don't remember the name of the person that helped us initially and the person at the cashier, but they both deserve a raise/promotion! Kudos! read more

This is my favorite decompression spot after a long day at work. This is also one of my favorite Armstrong locations. Peter is very helpful and has listened to me endlessly ramble about the plants I own and has helped me problem solve a few issues with them. This store is usually well stocked and every employee I've encountered has always been engaging and helpful. While, yes, their prices are a bit higher than a big box store, I believe you get what you pay for. They have quality plants and more importantly quality employees with knowledge about plants that are happy to help with all your plant needs. read more

This Armstrong has a good variety of native plants. Jason is a great source of information about natives and on occasion has ordered native plants for me. Sometimes I try out a new native plant and later when I decide I like it and it has done well I ask him if he can get more. He has been really helpful and let me know what is available and when it was going to be a while before he can get it. He has also made plant suggestions and given me information about the best planting sites and tolerance for watering. Also importantly he has told me what to add to the soil and what not to add for certain plants. Transitioning to natives has saved me so much money on the water bill and time doing extra hand watering to keep things alive when it gets hot. Now that most of my plants are established most of my yard will only get watered once or twice a month and some of it not at all. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. read more

After hearing about Armstrong Garden Centers through the grapevine, we decided to drive over to the La Habra store to look for some indoor plants. Upon arriving, we noted the quaint nursery style theme and parking was plentiful. We perused the outdoor area first and noted some catchy fountains. Never realized there were so many types of garden hose nozzles until coming here. And there was everything from solar powered garden lighting to decorative motifs to match any yard. Once we went inside the store where the indoor plants were located, we were greeted by really friendly staff who knew their stuff! After an hour of browsing and decision making, we picked out a starter counter-top Chinese money plant along with a tall Corn Plant (a species of Dragon Trees). They also had really cute planters of all sizes so we added a standing style to the mix. All in all, our first experience at Armstrong was memorable and we will definitely be returning soon for more plants. Highly recommend this store for their selection and service! read more

So impressed by their selection of California Natives! It can be challenging to find natives at a traditional nursery-- beyond Ceanothus and sages; Armstrong in La Habra has Toyon, Manzanitas, Penstemon, and so much more! They also have a good variety of drought tolerant plants including Grevillias. The staff is helpful and on hand for any questions or help one might need carrying a plant out to the car, or handing out brown paper or twine to help you get your lovely plants home safely. Love, love, LOVE that this Armstrong carries some California Native plants. I have always been into plants, and for years, Armstrong didn't have a good selection. Now that more and more people are getting introduced to California Natives, it's important that the larger chains carry some selection. I hope that Armstrong continues to get more and more native plants in their nurseries at _all_ their centers. The market for native plants is only going to grow more. I came in yesterday and today and bought about 8 different native plants and they mentioned they'll get more next month. I still bought some non-native fruits for potting, so it seems important to continue to be diverse, but I wouldn't be mad if 50% of the garden was only native plants :P I hope they have more annuals during the summer. It'll be great to go back in a few weeks when they have some more things in stock. Everybody working was also very helpful and knowledgeable (even about native plants!) My only issue was that the selection of native plants were still kind of limited. I asked if there would be any other Armstrong's that carry other native plants and they mentioned that is not necessarily the case but that I could try. But this Armstrong was still good. read more

I've recently shopped several big box stores and other nurseries however none of them had everything I needed which included earthworm castings. Armstrong did have everything i needed. Their plants looked health and well organized. They also were clearly keeping the nursery clean and safe due to current circumstances. Several employees assisted me including Joe, Gregory and Jason. One of my go to nurseries. Large selection of fruit trees, vegetable plants, roses and other decorative plants....including house plants!! Lots of garden décor including fountains and furniture. They have a great selection of soils, one of the few places that carries Dr earth products. Prices are a hit or miss though, lots of over priced items, but i have found the soils to be fair priced. If you are looking for employees that have actual plant knowledge this is 100 times better then any home improvement store and the quality here cant be beat. read more

Recently, I contacted Armstrong Garden Centers to schedule a home consultation with regards to tree care. I've been known to be pretty dangerous with a garden hose and I didn't want to kill off all my green-leaved, fruit-bearing friends living comfortably in the backyard. The company sent over plant expert Jason, from the La Habra Center to save the day. I was greeted by Jason after he arrived at the house and he explained the consultation would take approximately 2 hours. Jason walked through the property, examined the surviving trees/plant life and took meticulous notes in the process. "Is there hope?" I asked. "Yes, there is." he replied. Jason made certain he addressed all my concerns and pointed out important areas of focus, gave fertilizing tips, mulching recommendations... to name a few. You have to admit-the guy knows his stuff! He, even, provided notes so I could retain all the valuable information provided during the session. It was awesome getting a personal lesson on Horticulture 101. Thank you, Jason and Armstrong Garden Center, for delivering a 5-star experience! Your customer service is truly exceptional! BEAUTIFUL nursery with just about every plant or flower you could want. Each sign tells you how, when and where to plant and/or water. Easy to find things and very helpful. Lifetime plant guarantee! Everything is set up in such a wonderful way that it makes your shopping a very pleasant experience.... even customer service is helpful, friendly and happy. Plants and flowers are in fresh shape (can't say that about Home Depot, Lowe's, etc). They obviously take great care of them. The grounds are clean and everything is in its place, very pleasing to the eye and smell, like an oasis. Armstrong offers a variety of helpful classes and events... even a wine tasting night under the stars! Check their schedule for some really cool stuff. I do love LOVE love their outdoor decor too, most of it is fairly pricy though, but it's really awesome to look at. This is one of the friendliest Armstrong Garden Centers. Their level of service is similar to that of Trader Joe's. I overheard Amber giving detailed instructions to another customer over the phone. You can tell she is passionate about gardening. Amber greeted me and quickly got me some help with an order that I placed. She was attentive to detail by supplying me some paper to cover my van interior and let me know to ask for more should I need it. Gerardo loaded my van efficiently.
