The PERFECT happy hour. Reasonably priced drinks - love that they have mini martinis to try something new. The gin cocktails were so hard to choose from but they were delicious. I think we got 3 drinks each. The apps were perfect sizes Recommend patatas bravas - can't go wrong with that and filling. Pan con tomate- The tomate was delicious and somewhat fruity - great quality with crisp bread underneath. Bacon wrapped dates are my favorite and these were huge. Had to cut in half. Not pictured shrimp croquettes were unique, a bit of a texture curve so one was enough for me. Michelle Bernstein the James Beard winning chef & David Martinez, her husband & parter reopened Sra Martinez now in Coral Gables. They owned the original Snr. Martinez in the Miami Design District from 2008 until 2012, closing to spend more time with their young son. Señora Martinez is Michelle; she runs the kitchen & David oversees this restaurant. I love the music, tapas and mojitos at their Cafe La Trova on Calle Ocho in Little Havana. Their newest restaurant is over 4,000 sq. ft., seats 68 with the covered patio seating 50 more with a stage & large cocktail bar. The valet was right in front of the restaurant for $15. Stepping into Snr. Martinez was like a vacation; I was taken to another place and time. The lush green & coral ambiance was warm & inviting; an old Miami Beach vibe. We got here early in time for happy hour. The mini cocktails were perfect since we had to drive home, but it is always so difficult to choose as it all sounds so good. I had to start with the crispy artichokes, famous carbonara croquettes & eggplant chips so we got it all. The eggplant chips with a savory sweet drizzle & a sprinkle of maldon salt that was addictive. Although I love her bacon wrapped dates, tuna tartar & shishito peppers - but, where would I put it all? The menu is Michelle's signature Spanish cuisine with European influences & South Florida flair. The smell of the wood fire oven permeated the restaurant with the description of the oxtail paella, whole fire roasted fish, steaks, wood roasted duck... tantalizing. I tried the perfectly grilled flank steak with chimmicurri while my husband devoured his cheesy seafood paella . Michelle's Torrejas Bread Pudding was my must have for dessert. Sra. Martínez the space is beautifully decorated, wonderfully spacious with soaring ceilings, and the chandeliers are simply gorgeous. Service was attentive and warm throughout, though there was a fairly long wait between the second course and dessert. To start, the tuna tartare was outstanding, full of flavor and beautifully prepared. My friend's calamari with risotto was excellent as well. The salmon, unfortunately, fell a bit flat and lacked seasoning. The fries, on the other hand, were a highlight crisp, super fresh, and thoroughly delicious. For dessert, I ordered the panna cotta, which in texture and presentation was closer to a mousse than a traditional panna cotta, but honestly, it didn't matter. Whether you call it a panna cotta or a mousse, the flavor was incredible and the texture was lovely, finished with a bright, tangy mango topping that tied it all together. This may be one of my easier 5 star restaurant ratings! We also in the past have been to Michelle Bernstein's other restaurant Cafe La Trova in Little Havana. Different decor, different food, and the same great service and food nonetheless. One thing I have to start with here. A lot of places, the seafood paella is largely rice as opposed to fish. We had their seafood paella last night and it wasn't the largely rice as opposed to fish mixture. Rather, it was a good mixture of rice and fish and was just exceptional! We started with a happy hour at the bar and I must say the crispy artichokes were to die for. The mini cocktails were good as well! After happy hour, we had a seat at a table. We started with their eggplant chips, which were addicting. We also in addition had their flank steak and we were glad we did although I think anything we ordered here would've been exceptional. For dessert we had the bread pudding. Again this was an exceptional dessert. Our waiter was attentive and relaxed. A little pricey, but worth it. read more

We had: **Carbonara Croquetas - most universally loved, one person in our party said he'd eat a full meal of just this item and be perfectly happy. They are small, crispy, and not too heavy. Perfect way to start the meal and a wonderful complete to my... Lychee Martini! It's been ages since I've had a martini and THIS was a good way to indulge. Floral, not too sweet, not too overwhelming. For a lighter more refreshing option the Parisienne was so good too (like a Hugo spritz with a twist) *Yellow fin Crudo: with avocado and super crispy / not greasy wonton triangles - i could this as a meal (daily lol) - fish was super fresh, avocado perfectly ripe / seasoned and presentation was spot on *Brussel Salad (shaved) - super fresh and light, good balance to some of the richer dishes - 3 of us shared and there was more than enough *Mussels - large and plump, bread perfectly buttered and crisped, sauce was a very light but well seasoned. Way more than you think it is, main course portion Mains: *Snapper - perfectly crusted and cooked to flaking but juicy yumminess.We ate every bite of the greens it was present on, fabulous presentation and combination ****Skirt Steak - **personal favorite** even though I try to eat as much seafood as I can when I'm in town. Great spot in Coral Gables with a fun, cutesy atmosphere. The food, service, and drinks were all really good. Sra. Martinez was awesome--super friendly and made the experience even better. The bartenders definitely don't skimp on the pours, which was a nice surprise, and prices felt very reasonable for Coral Gables. I had the pan con tomate, which was a great portion for $8, and a Negroni for $9. Only small downside was that it felt a little warm inside, but overall a really enjoyable experience. Second time here and the place impressed just as the first visit. At first, a little skeptical: what's with all the grandma holiday decorations in the bar area? But thankfully their main area was tasteful and had a perfect atmosphere for New Years Eve. We ordered the following apps: 1. Came here through a recommendation from Our hotel concierge for a place with live music. Restaurant decor was the first thing that caught my attention. The seating and attention to detail was nice. We enjoyed the music from the live band on a Friday night. The service was great! From the front hostess to our servers. They were attentive and accommodating (seating us near the band when we mentioned we were here to watch them play) We ordered appetizers and drinks. All were amazing!! Flavor and portions were awesome! My only gripe is I wish the drinks had ally less ice. It was mostly ice and barely and liquid which made me feel cheated. Like many old-time Miamians, we remember fondly Michelle Bernstein's previous restaurants, Michy's and Sra. Martinez -the latter is now finally revived in Coral Gables. We went there for a Miami Spice dinner. Fault is on us for checking the menu on the Miami Spice site but not the one on the restuarant's site, as there has been significant changes, and some of the dishes that I looked forward to were no longer on the Spice menu. I do understand that availability and other factors can affect supply, especially if it's a better restaurant that doesn't use all frozen, unseasonal ingredients. Nonetheless it was a bit of a disappointment. We really like the interior. The chairs and sofa are very comfortable. There was a live band which made conversation a bit difficult, but overall the atmosphere was really nice. For appetizer we tried the chicken liver pate and the shrimp cake. I had expected the shrimp cake to have a texture like a crab cake, lumpy with fresh meat, instead of something more akin to a hot pot fish cake. I totally love the pillowy soft beignet, my husband and I almost fought over them lol. That said I don't feel it had much synergy with the chicken pate, it felt more like eating dessert as a first course. The oxtail paella is worth the extra, so rich and flavorful, if a bit on the salty side. I did like my mushroom dish with its Middle-Eastern spices. My friend liked his snapper as well, We were not thrilled that both the baked Alaska and bread pudding were off the Spice dinner menu, those were the two I was looking forward to trying. Nonetheless, the budino and penna cotta were a satisfactory finish to a lovely dinner. Service was nice, and the restaurant did fill up so do make reservation ahead. This Coral Gables establishment kind of snuck up on me. I hadn't heard of it, and didn't know it once existed (in a different iteration though). I'm happy to find it now in its current elegant state. Came here with co-workers for happy hour. So happy we did because this has become one of my favorite spots! The ambiance will take you back to old Florida. Their happy hour has specials for food and drinks. The cocktails are perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. Love that this place offered live music and that some couples were dancing. You don't find very many places anymore that offer that kind of vibe. We ordered their mushroom croquetas, which were my favorite item. The tuna carpaccio was good but comes almost as a bit of a paste. We did not like the pear and walnut salad as it had a bitter taste to it, but that was us just not realizing that endive is actually bitter. I've been looking forward to trying out this place. The place is beautiful, soft pinks and greens throughout, palms, and a laid back style. We sat at the bar booths, for happy hour. I had a mule mocktail and it was delicious. My two friends had their mini espresso martinis and passionfruit margaritas with tajin and they seem to like them. Upon until this point things were good, but then the mosquitoes started, since the doors were open and it was a bit of a warm humid night. Also, sitting next to the plants seems to me that some sort of repellent would've been good to have nearby. Anyhow, we tried to make the best of it in ordered the charcuterie tray, and it was OK wasn't very varied mainly cheeses and the toasts were stale and hard. Their fried chicken sandwich was delicious. (Pic not shown, it was devoured) Definitely a highlight. But the fried artichokes were not good, flavor was off. Service was good, but not great. What a spectacular place for a meal. Excellent layout for the restaurant, be sure to start any meal you have with the cravable Eggplant Chips - trust us, this is a must-have on every trip there. Chef Michelle came out after our meal and talked with Joye about how she makes them so similar to Joye's mom's recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes. The Oxtail Paella was like nothing we'd ever tried before, so rich and decadent! I did the duck and not only was it amazing, it was more duck than at any restaurant I've been to before. Dessert was a Miami take on Baked Alaska by adding in a tropical fruit salsa! If you grew up in Miami, you remember the OG Sra Martinez in the design district. At a time where there was not much going on in the area - Chef Michelle Bernstein and Chef Michael Schwartz paved the way for what we know as the design district today. I remember eating at Sra Martinez with my family growing up and thinking that was the first time I thought food was cool. Bernstein and her flavors are such an integral part of the Miami food landscape and it started there. That restaurant closed years ago, but I am so happy that is now back and better than ever in the heart of Coral Gables. I've visited Sra for drinks and got to try this weekend for dinner. My dad and I arrived early so it was still happy hour - which they have daily - and got the tiny tinis for $6 and two orders of croquetas. We also ordered the oxtail paella and crudo to share. While my dad opted for a wine, I got a lychee martini and I could not get enough of this drink. It was on the dry side -so not overly sweet like a typical lychee martini. At one point, we had friends join our table and dine also so I do appreciate the staff for being kind and accommodating of our unexpectedly growing party. For dessert, we ordered the bread pudding which was amazing. Around the time we were wrapping dinner, the live music started. That added a nice element to the ambiance. It was a really packed restaurant on a Saturday, and I will say service was a little slow. However, everyone was super friendly and I think it was just a wild evening post the Gables flamenco festival. I would definitely return for the drinks and the food. I am so happy to have Sra Martinez back and so close to me. It was awesome seeing Chef Bernstein bring back this gem to coral gables! I have always been a fan of her cooking as well as when Michys was open! Our first Miami Spice lunch for this season and we couldn't have picked a better place! Let's start with the restaurant itself, the decor is beautiful, both in restaurant and bar area. I fell in love with the dinnerware, beautiful Rosenthal dishes! The service is exceptional. Our sever was very friendly and professional. I loved that the barman brought our drinks. We had G&T's, very well made and refreshing. Now on to the best, the food. Miami Spice is a fantastic deal. We were 3 so we each ordered something different and got to try most of the menu. The appetizers were delicious and very nice portions. My favorite was the Summer Fruit caprese. The entrees were also very good, and large portions. I had the salmon, it was perfectly cooked with a crispy skin. The desserts were all so delicious I loved them all! They also offer a glass of whine or cocktail of the month for $10. I visited Sra. Martinez for lunch the other day and while the restaurant was on the quieter side midday, the experience more than made up for it! The space itself is stunning, you can tell it turns into a real scene when the live music starts at night! We went in hungryyyy and ordered like it: steak frites, filet mignon, paella, zucchini chips, carbonara croquetas, pan con tomate and a few other sides -- plus a few bottles of vino to set the tone! Every dish was honestly executed perfectly. The steak was tender and flavorful, the paella was rich and indulgent, and those zucchini chips were dangerously good. You can tell Chef Michelle Bernstein touch is all over the menu... refined but still authentic! I do wish the lunch crowd had a bit more energy, but it actually made for a chill and easy-going meal. In short: Over a decade later Senora Martinez is back and she has aged like a fine wine. My first introduction to a chef owned restaurant occurred in 2008 at the Original Sra. Fast forward 11 years and now James Beard recipient chef Michelle Bernstein has reincarnated her restaurant and placed it in beautiful Coral Gables. This location is smaller than the first but wayyyy easier on the eyes. An absolute stunning dining room. Drinks: I had the house made sangria which packed a punch (pun intended). It has whisky, a house made sangria cordial, berries, peaches, and Lambrusco. The bebiba menu also had a section for the drivers (non alcoholic). I thought this was a cute way of saying that. Food: Chef Michy's menu is inspired by Spain and the Mediterranean and has an flapper era style to it. -Appetizers: Carbonara croquetas - absolutely delicious Leek au vinaigrette: such a light, fresh appetizer Fried eggplant chips: this app has been with Senora since the beginning and for good reason. Crispy, light, even better the next day when I threw them in my air fryer. Mains: our amazing server recommended the oxtail paella.... This was out of this world!!! I cannot even describe how amazing this was .. get it .. even if you aren't a huge oxtail fan like I am. We also had the mushroom shawarma, saffron lemon roasted chicken and a side of the whipped potatoes. The whipped potatoes are made with a creme fraiche and taste as if they were curated in heaven. Dessert: the torre has bread pudding. Bread pudding with dark chocolate, rum soaked raisins and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I could've picked up the bowl and drank it. It's safe to say I would definitely come back again. The service was top tier, the ambiance is elegant, and food is gonna give everyone in the area a run for their money. Very friendly bartenders and a good happy hour (weekends too!) that seems to change from time to to time ( so far I've only visited twice but the food options were slightly different ). The art deco motif is done well. The cocktails are well made, the mini martini is perfect for someone who loves the idea of a martini but is a bit of a lightweight sometimes. On my last visit we decided to stay for dinner and really enjoyed the lamb chops. They were a good portion to share, very flavorful and cooked to perfection. Also loved the artichokes. When you visit your receipt comes with 25 dollars off your next visit, but sadly I'm horrible at hanging onto receipts. The standouts were the oxtail paella as well as the shrimp and avocado, which was so simple and yet so freaking flavorful! We also loved the crispy eggplant chips and the pan con tomate. Wow, what a gem we stumbled upon. We were looking for a family friendly restaurant because we had our toddler with us. My daughter was obsessed with the Christmas decorations and Christmas themed restaurant so we stepped inside. The whole restaurant was a whole vibe and we really enjoyed the music. I ordered the mojito and it was very refreshing. My husband ordered a specialty drink with ginger beer and was raving about how much he liked his drink. He also ordered the carbonara croquetas and wow it's a must order!! It came out hot, crispy, cheesy, and had a delicious savory flavor. It came with four little balls but I wish there was more because it was really good. I ordered the bone marrow and it had a nice amount of marrow. I also enjoyed the topping on the marrow and sauce drizzled. I can't remember what was under the bone marrow but it was tasty and reminded me of grits. The sweet, salty, savory flavors from our dishes were chefs kiss. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed some great appetizers including tuna carpaccio ($28), braised mussels ($29), and chicken liver pate on warm beignets ($26), all of which were marvelous. Wow! Ummm....wow! Have never had anything like what we experienced this evening. Have watched Chef on various shows and knew her food would be amazing but it was even more incredible than imagined. What a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary! The richness of the paella that the oxtail and bone broth blended in gave. So satisfying. The duck, tho we came seeing the mole sauce that has been changed to a different sauce but it was wonderful! A bit of spice to offset the duck and such a generous amount. And the eggplant chips were almost exactly the taste of my mom's fried green tomatoes! I couldn't stop eating them. Crispy. A drizzle of sweet that added a unique touch. Would highly recommend.
