This place has been a constant in Denver for fifty years. It's been there every day of my 34 years. My parents used to take me there when I was little and I go there now. It's been in the same building with the identical smell my entire life. It's absolutely ageless. It's perfect for buying boots, gloves, camping/fishing gear, knives and other such gear. Don't go into the other surplus store labeled army surplus by mistake. This store's merchandise reflects what I think of when i think army surplus. They have army gear - backpacks, belts, apparel, boots and lots of other items. There's also patches and badges, ammo boxes, hats. And so many camping and outdoor items that if you're heading out to camp, you should check it out. I saw lanterns, cooking items, cots, packs, and fishing equipment. The store is crowded and narrow aisles but it's a treasure trove of items. The salesperson was helpful and friendly and showed me where the item I was looking for was. The prices were decent. Not bargains but not over priced as well. Just hunting through the place was fun. Unfortunately he doesn't like doing that so once he found what he wanted we left. Last week, I bought a Coleman fuel canister for my backpacking stove at this store. I tried it out when I got home. Nothing. I tried to return it today. I love Army and Navy surplus stores, and this is easily the best I've ever shopped at. It looks really small from the outside but, as others have noted, it's literally a labyrinth inside, with aisle upon twisting aisle of pretty much everything. Need fishing tackle, knives, ammo, camping gear, a portable potty? They've got it, and TONS more besides (I got a bit nostalgic seeing British Navy-issue sweaters like my dad used to wear back in the day when he was a Sailor). They have tons of work boots and athletic footwear including VERY reasonably-priced Doc Marten, Merrell, Caterpillar, Timberland and Dickies shoes/boots Sure it's a bit grubby and disorganized but browsing their mind-boggling array of merchandise is super fun! There's so many issues with this store and the staff! I'm deeply offended and upset at the lack of customer service here. Upon arrival with my family, my girlfriend and son, a gentleman asked if we found everything ok as soon as we entered the store. Minutes later while looking for boots in the back section a call was placed to do a "price check" on boots. The young man who helped was very kind and provided candies to my son. After leaving the boot section to purchase MREs for my so 5 year old to try, we were checking out and the clerk was Egregiously rude. I did not catch his name but he had fair skin, weighed around 240lbs, shoulder length hair tattoos on both arms and a medium facial stubble. The man was absolutely childish, Dropping my items on the counter, throwing my debit card back to me and rudely ignoring questions about products in store. After purchasing 10 items I had to request a bag to carry my MREs. And then he tossed the receipts to me. I have spent several hundred dollars (USD) inside this store personally and I will not be returning if the same treatment happens again. Everyone has bad days, but giving out negative energy to a kind customer may not be the job for a veteran with no discipline or respect. I've frequented Army Surplus for a few decades now. It's always been there, it's always got, by far, the best selection of surplus, vintage and leather wear and the they're always well staffed, very knowledgeable and friendly. They've expanded a number of times and the selection and breadth of product is, quite frankly, astonishing! Recently, I had the need for some naval dress-blues for my father for his 60th wedding anniversary celebration and after looking EVERYWHERE, I came back to this store for suggestions. As it turned out, and after showing them a picture of what I wanted, they had one of their vintage pieces in a far corner of the store and it was just what I was looking for. Again, this was a great example of not only having everything, but knowing the inventory and helping me solve my problem. The issue was that their vintage wall pieces are antiques and not for sale, but the store rep went out of her way to contact one of the managers who get back to me quite quickly. Cherlyn, the store manager, explained that they do not rent the antiques on the upper walls for obvious reasons, but when I explained that my father is a naval vet, without hesitation, she offered the suit for the occasion for his service. I was personally choked up and honored at her generosity. What else can I say, but thank you to all of the owners, management and staff at Army Surplus For Less and one final shout out and thank you to all that serve, have served or will serve our great nation! Terrible service! I went in to exchange jeans for correct size. Had receipt. Was charged $5 extra per pair because "price of cotton just went up". When i protested clerk accused me of being drunk - and i dont drink. So they took my original purchase, marked them each up $5 and made an extra $20 on this exchange. If you have ever been to an Army Navy surplus store this is an awesome one. If you haven't been to one I can't put into words what all it is so you just have to go. This place is huge and has a TON of stuff and a good supply of it. I am not the key demographic for this place. I have no interest in camo, carheart, or knives but I can still always find an arm full of stuff I want. They have a ton of camping stuff you aren't going to find at Target, a good selection of water bottles (something near and dear to my heart) and about 100 things that make me think of someone else (Why yes Vince would love neon targets that explode when you shoot them and look like one inch tall animals). This place is also SPRAWLING. You could easily get lost here. Or if you are me you could easily think it was about time to go and then have your boyfriend be like "Woah no there is still two more rooms we have to look at!" The good news is that means you can find something for every male and almost every female in your life here. I will say the bathrooms are a little...well terrifying. As I said I am not their key demo. I get that most people shopping here are into camo from floor to ceiling. For me it was terrifyingly dark. I will say that the one time I did go to the bathroom here I was in the process of passing a kidney stone so I really didn't find much funny...and I always find everything funny. I guess at the end of the day for some people having a roll of paper towel next to the roll of toilet paper is awesome...for me it was a bad bad sign. Also the people checking you out could be about 200 times more friendly. I have found the people working throughout the store are always very nice and helpful but on more than one occasion I have checked out here and not heard a single word from the cashier besides my total. I work retail so I am pretty friendly to others doing a job I know can make you want to kill people but I see no excuse to ignore a customer that says "Hi!" to you first and then again when they say "thank you!" when they leave. read more

Oh man this place is huge and filled with a ton of amazing things. I went in and bought my self a new knife which was cheaper here than it was at a near by big box store. I was amazed to see how large their clothing selection was. They had a great shoe area and someone over there to help you out picking out some boots [they even had a shiny blue army boots] and they have a sprawling selection of denim. I'm not talking like a million pairs of dad jeans they had $34 Levi 514 [slim straight] which are my fav cut. And seeing them for $20 less than at the mall is a nice thing in my book. The staff if very on top of things and will help you find anything you could ever want. They have a person more or less in ever section and they know a lot about what they are selling. They also have a stellar bag section. A friend ended up getting a cute [yes I said cute] canvas bag with a little medic silkscreen on it. They even had gas masks there. So pretty much what I learned going to this place was: Zombie apocalypse one stop shop If I need cheap [great] clothing If I feel the need for a gas mask to run around town with If I even need a newer knife If I need to find a bandana to match my new shirt If I need a new bag for my bike rides around town COME HERE. It took me a little while to figure it out, but a lot of the stuff that you might need for camping you can get here for less $$$ than the other outdoor stores. On top of that I've built up quite the ensemble of camouflage cargo shorts from here that I like to wear around in my back yard with a machete (also purchased here) strapped to my side. They've also got biker wear and I found some killer goggles that I plan to wear at Burning Man when it gets windy out. I liked that they had staff in all different areas which is needed since it's a big store. They have name brands and some brands I hadn't heard of, but I am not a label snob. This place had a huge selection, although it's tight quarters and some rows are quite messy. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only thing I didn't like was the pricing, they stock a lot of foreign knock off items and charge close to retail for them. I remember making the rounds with my dad when I was a kid, visiting the surplus store and A&A hardware when I was a kid. The surplus store was a maze of wonder. So many other wordly things to look at and so many turns, halls, and rooms to get lost in. You enter through a revolving gate just like a carnival ride. I'd always be transfixed by the lures - fishing gear is right at the entrance - and work my way back through hunting, camping, skiing, work clothes, shoes and ending in the surplus. You can find WWII helmets and gas masks from 'Nam (take that Agent Orange), gear sacks from Switzerland, France, well just choose your favorite European army. My dad would find me among the fatigues and take me to the counter to pay where I would stare at the sweet ass knives on display and then we'd go. The surplus store is one of my favorite places to shop. The surplus element has shrunk in recent years in favor of outdoor gear which you can get for $$$s less than sporting goods stores. They have a great selection of shoes and if you're looking for dickies or levis, this is THE place to come. They have an outlet that sells their already bargain gear for even cheaper. Who cares if your leather work gloves are mismatched if you got them for $2? The staff is made up of some real characters who really make the experience complete. Don't leave without grabbing a camo condom, you know, for when you have sex in the woods and don't want anyone to see. P.S.
