I recently brought my daughter to this location to try out a bicycle. Since it was our first visit, I didn't realize we needed to ask an associate for assistance before she sat on a bike at the test ride station. She pedaled just a few feet when an associate by the name of "Eric Jensen" abruptly approached us and told us that customers aren't allowed to ride inside the store. While I completely understand and respect that policy, the way he addressed us felt unnecessarily harsh and startled my daughter. A kinder, more understanding approach would have gone a long way -- especially when speaking to parents and children. We left feeling discouraged by the interaction, which was unfortunate since we were genuinely excited about finding her first bike. read more

This store is what I would call a Tardis. No it cant travel through time, but it appears bigger on the inside that what is looks like on the outside. I really enjoyed the full functioning bike shop full of everything a cyclist could need from your average to advanced person. I even found things here that I would normally only expect to find in a dedicated bike shop. I might just have a new go-to place for all my biking needs. Bike shop, jeesh. Brought my stump jumper in for a full service tune up that included two new tubes as tires were flat. Pick it up, rear tire flat and tech offered to fill it great. Took it home and flat again. Brought it back, they offered to replace tube, great. Come back take it home and overnight flat again! Going to fix it myself at this rate. Found a thorn that could have been found if anybody had checked. Basic stuff! And customer effort way too high here. read more

Having recently decided that a backpacking trip will soon be in my future, I of course decided that I needed to start acquiring the appropriate provisions; enter REI. Star #1: Loving the curbside pick up process! You literally order online, head to the store, park in a designated parking spot, check in that you are there, and they bring out your order. So simple and beyond convenient! Star #2: They offer a variety of classes to help hone your backwoods skills! While COVID has put a pause on those I can't wait to head in and get some tips to help make my future adventures even better. Star #3: The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly! When I've had to return or exchange some of my gear due to size issues or my own misreading of equipment compatibility they are always willing to help me find what will work for my needs better. It def helps that they are all incredibly passionate about the outdoors, so they can help to guide you based on their own first-hand experiences with their gear. Star #4: The goods they have may be a little pricey, but the quality is what you're paying for! Prior to outfitting for my most recent adventures I've purchased a variety of hiking gear and not once had any issues. I know that if I did they have a super forgiving 365-day return policy. This is for the bike shop -- didn't expect such a fully staffed, full-service bike shop at REI. Staff is really friendly, and much better than some of the high-pressure sell jobs at other bike shops in the area. It's nice to work with a store that has a big inventory, and isn't trying to get you on a bike that's the wrong size because that's what they have in stock. This new REI co op development that's just off of park meadows mall on exit 197, is adding new flavor to the arapahoe region. Easily accessible off the 25 freeway, for those coming from down south, we need not have to drive all the way into the city through traffic to get to the main REI (downtown Denver) to get gears =D I like the huge interior. I would have given this place a 5/5 but because of how difficult it is sometimes to find things, because it's so expansive, it'll take awhile to get around and get used to. For instance: looking for a tent? Usually all tents are together, but not this place; "heavy tents" are separated across the room from "light tents". One is for back packing, the other one for car rides. I can understand there is a specific difference between the two but why do we need to separate them apart? I almost gave up on finding the "light tents" because I thought they didn't have it, was just about to drive to the main REI just to get it when I saw at the corner of my eye it was far away in another section. I really think this does not need a separate section. Saves people time having all of it in front of their face to choose from. read more

I walked in to purchase 2 pair of shoes which I had just checked online to see if available in store. Yes, they were so Score! I made my way to REI and found the she department. Asked for the two pairs in my size and after a few mins the gent emerged from the stock room empty handed. Sorry we have neither of those in your size. Can you check again your site said they were available in store. He did go back for a moment and came right back and said no. UGH!!! then came the.. well we may have had them this morning as that's only updated over night. I understand the employees have no control over the company website but there should be something they can do.. like... well we can order those for you and they will be in within the week or something. Nope.. no offer was made to get them, find them at another location even. Just a shoulder shrug and an excuse. From now on I guess I will just order directly from the shoe manufacturer and be done with it. As another stated it could be because this is a smaller store their selection is lacking. read more

Thanks to Nelson for helping me find the perfect fit in waterproof hiking boots! I have not had a hiking boot in about 22 years! There was another male employee who helped me a lot too but I didn't catch his name and he had to leave for some reason. REI is always the best. I have had warm jackets and pants from here as well. First time visiting an REI store, and I was very impressed with the scope of everything they had. On the recommendation of my barber, after he mentioned the anniversary sale they had going on through Memorial Day Monday, I figured I'd check it out. As I was told, a huge sale was going on and they had everything outdoor related, tents, sleeping bags , hiking gear, bikes, SUPs, kayaks and more! After being here I definitely want to get a kayak to explore the rivers and lakes here in Colorado, I already have 2 SUP boards that'll get some good use, but a kayak would definitely do good in the quiver. So since all kayaks were 20% off, no better time than the present to get one! The guy that helped me really knew his stuff, and helped me choose a great kayak that would be good for fishing from on the waterways here in Colorado. Besides the kayak, I grabbed some Patagonia shorts and some tops that'll be great for hiking and camping. Got some waterway maps and some sweet Dakine gloves for mountain biking. I also joined their member program, which is very rewarding for life! I'll definitely be back before Monday cause I want to get a tent and camping gear! I am a member at REI and I used to think it was a great place but that has really gone down hill in the last 2 years. Their prices have skyrocketed and their service plumited. Getting a tune up on a pair of skiis as a member used to be less that $50 now it is $120 and up. The people at the ski shop can be really condescending and they have some odd rules. My son got some new boots, same size and sole length, and he weights more than he did last year, so when I went to get his skiis tuned for this season I asked them to check to be sure the bindings were set right for the boots and to reset his dinns. I only brought 1 boot and the guy at the counter laughed at me and said stop right there, unless you have boot number 2 we are done. I was shocked at the way he said that, and asked what difference having both boots made as the sole profile is the same and he said it is a REI thing and we do a right and left set up on the skiis. I asked him if they labeled which ski was right and which was left, as they never have on my skiis and he said no. So what difference does it make as my son will stick his boots into which ever ski happens to drop to the left on the show when he goes to put them on? I told the rep nevermind the boots just tune the skiis and he looked totally stunned. "You aren't going to go home and get the other boot?" I said no it isn't with a 20 minute ride home and a 20 minute ride back for you to slightly adjust the sole length screw on the back binding and any idiot can look up the dinn settings on the bindings web site and set them. At most it will be .5 or 1 dinn difference. His mouth was wide open and the look of disgust on his face was actually funny. This isn't rocket science and I have been skiing for 30 years without some dude lecturing me on ski maintenance. Write me up for the tune and let's get on with it already. The rest of our transaction was silent from that point forward. I have been skiing around the world since before that clown was born. The skiis were well tuned so 2 stars for the tech that did the work but the goon at the register was just obnoxious. Ski tunes at Christy Sports are $65 and no membership needed. The customer service yesterday was excellent here. I was helped by four different individuals and all were a pleasure to interact with. A lady in the bike section took a lot of time to explain the ordering process to me and answer all my questions. A very tall gentleman just passing by the garage sale section on the way to men's apparel stopped to provide helpful feedback on the items he saw me looking at in the garage sale (a section that was not his assigned area). Another gentleman in the climbing shoes area stopped to offer me help. And a lady at checkout spent extra time trying to locate my REI Membership account. All in all a very helpful and pleasurable experience. But the best part is how REI has chosen to do the garage sales since the pandemic started. The one morning event used to be fun, but this setup is nice for those folks who can only stroll in midweek at random times. The nice thing is the garage sale gets restocked as items arrive. Found some amazing lightly used items at amazing prices. Much better than any resale prices you'd find anywhere else. read more

Rude is an understatement They have many customer service personnel standing around telling people where to go and how to wear the mask on their face but if you need help finding a shoe size after waiting in their long line fora try on- their attitude is "don't bother me!" I asked for a size in a 6 boot and the long haired dude was so annoyed I asked and he grabbed the shoe and said "ugh! If I have it!" He never returned then later peeped his head out to talk to a pretty girl in line. Then I asked the female clerk to please help me get a size and she looked at me and said ya sure and then went to help another customer in line! I understand theres a pandemic going on- but for the short amount of time that they are open, they should have better customer service. I guess Ill just return for my money back. read more

A friendly efficient staff but the store lacks the WOW factor like their flagship store downtown. Lots of gear and equipment but mostly outdoor clothing. Their flagship store has more modeling and staging, divided up in different sections, simulating a mountain hike. Drove around in circles till I found it. It's right off I-25 and exit 198, but my phone thinks it's funny to send me in circles. Look for a big grey cement building that shares a parking lot with a a Lowes Hardware store. They do have an excellent selection of foot orthodics, and I especially like their name brand orthodics which are made from cork and pressed paper, as they really stand up to their namesake. Found a pair of Brooks sneakers at 50% off. Heard some mountain hike bragging. Hey take a family vacation where you all share one small hotel room, and then you can brag that you survived. The new thing is to strap your kids to your back for a high altitude mountain climb and take selfies on cliffs. I can now appreciate that my parents were not adventurous but they were wise. read more

It's REI, in Colorado! Great location, lots of parking, and it's a large store with a lot to choose from. I brought my bike in to go Tubeless, said it could take 5 days, they had it done in 24 hours. Being a member is good. Discounts on service, rebates, coupons, and great customer service. They have gotten tighter over the years, but I have used their return policy on boots, they just didn't fit right, and after hiking in them they took them back with no issue. Their ignorant position on removing Vista Outdoor products, and similar manufactures, is misguided at best. I'll just buy those products from another company. read more

Once I went in looking for some footwear and it was like every employee refused to make eye contact with me as I waited for help. Then last night I decided to write a review because there's no good way to send feedback from the web site when I called in to inquire about renting crampons for a winter ascent. The 'too cool for school' rental rep insisted I probably don't need crampons without even knowing what I'm climbing. Basically assumed I'm an idiot, and I can tell you I've been bagging peaks for probably the majority of this kid's entire life and I know what I'm doing and I know when I need crampons. She got my shoes but I seemed to be bothering her because she was very short with me and snooty. She didn't know info about the Chaco's and could not help me or try to ask someone else that might be able to help me. Needless to say I did not buy anything here. REI as a company has a great business model that's customer focused with the desire to get people outdoors! I love all the REI's I've been to, but this is my favorite. It's a large store with helpful and patient workers. It's not as big as the flagship store downtown, but they have more time to talk about the items you're interested in. The equipment rental/repair station in particular is top notch and will explain things to you and provide realistic timelines for repairs. Also they will machine wax your board for free if you're a member. read more

I came in looking for very specific things and I was being incredibly picky. After literally roaming around, feeling lost for what felt like FOREVER.... An employee came up and offered help. His name was an abbreviation.... And I sincerely apologize for not knowing 100%. But it was "something " Dean, I think "T.D." And he saved me. I was looking for running gear for the Colfax marathon. Rei is so far behind with how others are opening with COVID. Everyone go to Scheels up north, or they are building one in the springs- for your outdoor gear. They are a MUCH better company. After waiting 30 min outside to go in, then another 45 to return something, my business with REI is finished. Also, they were wearing gloves, when people wear gloves and don't change them after every interaction- thats contamination people, it just shows me how uneducated they are. read more

Fantastic REI, not sure why people aren't giving it 5 stars. I misread a promotion where you can buy a co-op membership and receive a $30 gift card after you spend $50. I bought the co-op membership online and came into the store the next day to get my skis serviced and spend the $50 to get my $30 gift card. When I got to the check-out counter Susie noticed that I recently became a member and asked if I received the $30 gift card to use on my purchase and I explained that I thought I needed to spend $30 first, but I guess I needed to buy the membership in-store. Susie and another very helpful gentlemen, Andrew didn't hesitate to issue me a $30 gift card that I could use on my purchase. Both of them were so friendly and took the time to explain all the benefits I get as a co-op member. The cherry on top of this was that my skis were ready to pick up the very next day. I purchased some items for a trip to Montana but had to return them. Everything had the tags on and I was asked if I had worn any of the items. I guess people do that but I don't and I felt very offended and made to feel like I had done something wrong. After my return I went to the shoe department and there was a very helpful clerk who was really helpful or this rating would be lower. This REI has so much more inventory than the flagship store in Platte Park! They have all sorts of gear and lots of it. Their shoe department is huge and takes up the back area of the store. Everything is quite spread out and doesn't feel jammed into the store like it does at other REI locations. They have tons of employees in green vests, ready to help you find what you need. The decor in this store is what I would describe as "hipster camping chic" and I love it/want to replicate it at my house. They have plenty of fitting rooms and the sitting area outside of the waiting rooms is darling. Their parking lot is huge and easily accessible. Thanks to this location's ample parking, large inventory and helpful employees, it is my new go-to REI location! read more

I've been a loyal REI member for 20+ years and never received such poor service and attitude in a shop as I did in this store. I brought in my 4mo old Yakima rack for repair or exchange under warranty or REI membership only to be informed that they wouldn't help me because the cracked piece could have been caused by it getting bumped. So I asked for help ordering the part or coming up with another solution and was condescended to with tongue in cheek solicitude by the 20yr old repair clerk who wouldn't even take the time to get me contact info, much less open a computer screen and help me find a part. Then with a "you have a nice day" he had me carry the thing back to my car with my separated shoulder. I am horribly disappointed on all fronts. I'll take the 10k a year I spend on outdoor gear to backcountry.com or somewhere that cares about its loyal customers still read more
