And not only did they take a look at every detail of the project, they worked with us to strategically fix the things that were the highest risk. As the project scope increased to resolve badly done plumbing and tile work by our previous contractor, Ramis would sit us down and talk with us and have us sign off on every minor change to the SOW. Every night Ramis would send us photos of the work done and let us know of any changes in timeline and what he would be doing next if a major milestone was completed. Bruce, who was doing a majority of the work, would always show up on time, and communicate often. His craftsmanship was world class. At one point Ramis needed to have a plumber come by and fix our shower plumbing connections, and we ran into an issue with scheduling as his main plumber was on a job in Milwaukee at the time. He notified us that he will ask his other client if it was ok if he can have his plumber on our site that day, else it would take 2 days. While this changed the timeline at a negligible level, his honesty in how he discussed this situation, and his attempt at solving the problem built a lot of trust with us and Ramis. Every single member of his team was licensed, insured and bonded, and since the bathroom job Ramis has always been helpful with the multiple times I've called him about other issues.

David, the owner, seems like a nice guy, and he did a good job replacing the tiles on my bathroom floor, and he (mostly his assistant) did a lot of painting, which on the whole looks good. But see below... The big issues were what I discovered after he was finished and had left: fresh paint stains in multiple areas, including the wood floor of my 19th century house and even furniture - which I cleaned up. Splattered paint near the ceiling of my kitchen which still, three months later, has not been patched, paint stains on my oriental rug, a major purchase 40 years ago, etc. David said he would pay for the rug damage, and I only asked for 50% of the very reasonable $175 cleaning cost. David told me to bill him via Zelle, something I said I'm not sure how to do. He already has my Zelle information, since that's how I paid him for the work. But after messaging him and emailing several times, he has not responded. And I still have paint streaks on the wall and an unpaid bill. So I can't recommend Handy Gentlemen. I think part of the problem is that David is under-manned and a bit overwhelmed, but not responding to my messages is unprofessional.

After all the years I've worked with him, I recently asked him why he hasn't grown his team larger and expanded his business more (he has PLENTY of business but having more workers would expand his business even larger) He told me it's because he likes to oversee every project himself personally and if the business got too large, he may not be able to expend himself to the oversight that he insists on. If Ziggy is working at one house, and sends a couple of his guys to yours to do a smaller job, trust me, he will be popping in on a regular basis to make sure things are done correctly, and perfectly. This man will provide you with QUALITY work and takes pride in providing you with a beautiful job. He never takes advantage of anyone on cost. Ziggy is a fair man. Ziggy has strong opinions on the best material to be used for the project due to his experience. I have strong opinions on my aesthetic outcome. So if we disagree (and we have) he will of course acquiesce to the homeowner with a reluctant shrug and the knowledge that you're ultimately the one in charge of what you want. He's more practical I feel, and I'm more aesthetic, and both of us opinionated on what we think is best. With his talent and knowledge of what he's doing, and what I like to think of as my good aesthetic eye, we together recently produced a bathroom I could live in! (IF it were larger! ) I'm not one to recommend anyone lightly. It's happened where a company does a good job for someone, then a less than stellar job for another person leaving the homeowner disappointed. I never want to be that person who steered someone wrong, even if it's out of my control and I was pleased with the work rendered at my place. With Ziggy, and after working with him on four different jobs, I can tell you without hesitation and with confidence, he will provide you with beautiful work, at a price that is usually more than competitive.

I gave dave 4 thousand dollars to paint an empty 800 square foot condo with no furniture and he didn't finish painting kitchen or hallways or closet shelves. It was an easy job. But it was a nightmare. I have a list a mile long. The straw that broke the camels back was him doing something simple like putting a rod in my closet to hang my cloths. Well I put my last piece of clothing on rod and the whole closet rods and brackets came out of wall on top of me. He came back after his vacation 1 week later and fixed it then he measured wrong and I couldn't open the drawers from dresser inside of closet that he knew I had to open the drawers. So that being said I couldn't trust Dave installing my cabinets for premier. He can't even hang a closet rod let alone cabinets. Hit or miss kinda a guy. Live and learn. Reviews are for a reason. Bill was very polite, called me over the weekend to set up the time and said he'd go to the jobsite to get his guys started and then come and meet with me. He just sent me a text message (not even dignified enough to call) at 8:30pm the night before saying "We are currently too busy to take on any new jobs until September. Call me early summer." Bill is what gives contractors a bad name. Sure he might do good work, but he does not respect people's time and schedules. A simple, "Sorry, would love to help you, but we are booked through September" would have done fine at the first call. Terrible customer service and I imagine this speaks to how you might be treated as a client if he did manage to get in your door.
