Went to Arnold's last night to support one of our favorite bands. The stage, sound and band were excellent. They had a good sized dance floor unfortunately none of us could use it because there was a gentleman there that apparently is a regular, taking up the entire dance floor with his antics and reeked to high heaven. This man's body odor was so bad we had to move tables away from the band. This was my first experience at Arnold's and although I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the waitress, the food and drinks, if this "Kramer" guy is a regular I can't imagine going back. * I don't see how to reply to the owner's response to my review, but the reason is because this is apparently an ongoing problem that management has yet to address. In addition to the smell he takes up the entire dance floor with his antics and jumps at people, which is very uncomfortable And speaking with other patrons at your establishment I am not the only one who feels this way. Maybe almost 3.5. Steak night Thursday & karaoke. Decent buy for the price. Nice size rib eye with 2 sides. Decent flavor. Baked potato seemed over baked and as a helpful tip might be nice to add shredded cheese as option for it also instead just butter & sour cream packets. Place was clean. First time there. The one female bartender with long dark hair spent most of her night on the end of the bar talking to a big guy. Wasn't very interested in other patrons or trying to be personable. Great time with the Matt Altman band last night. Unfortunately one regular (I'm told) put a damper on it. It wasn't the crazy dancing that turned us off (and kept others off the dance floor), it was how bad he smelled. So bad we were forced to move to another table. Stopped here on a whim on the way to downtown St. Augustine to get some cheap food. The chicken tender sandwich was your basic sandwich but it hit the spot. The bar itself was chill, not many people at all. There were a couple slot machines, dart boards, and karaoke on certain nights. Dive bars are my favorite so this was definitely my style. read more

How does a place get worse after Bar Rescue? For context I come into town ever 12 to 18 months to check on investment property so I'm familiar with Arnold's over the years. There is a back "lean to" area that supported smoking because it was essentially outdoors. It had TVs, a pool table, cocktail tables and food service. It was awesome. Seldom, if ever can you find a place to smoke, drink, watch sports and get a bite to eat. Truly a competitive advantage in the area. Also I could get some work done during the day. It seems like they lost the food service vendor, which I understand, they leased out the area. That's fine. However they removed the TVs and added a pool table so now there is only 2 cocktail tables to sit and no TV in the smoking area. The only food serivce is inside and is only fried bar food. Now this area was never served and all the tables always required a wipe down, which was ok but now you can't get any games because there isnt a TV, no food and only two tables to sit. WTF happened. To make matters worse I was there on a Monday night, with 2 MNF games and the baseball payoffs and no TV, at all. In the whole place. I'll be back because I can smoke and drink in a quiet area but I'll be bringing my own video service and eating before I come. Seriouly, WTF happened. read more

Me and my husband come up once a year, usually for Night of Lights, since our family all lives in Minnesota.So the place has always held good memories for us. Last night, Savannah was our waitress and she was wonderful and she has great banter and we love her small town accent. I do want to mention one thing : the past couple of times we've visited, the bands just haven't had the same spark they used to. The music feels a bit less lively, and it changes the atmosphere we always loved. We still appreciate Arnold's and especially the great service we had . I spent my weekend at Arnold's, and I can officially say that if it wasn't for my waitress Savannah, I would've written this place off completely. She was the one bright spot in an otherwise disappointing weekend. Her energy, friendliness, and attention made us feel taken care of when everything else around us was falling apart. All tables reserved in an empty dining area at 6:30? People can call to reserve a table, and show up when the band plays. So trying to stop in and get something to eat is impossible. Sat at the bar, waited 15 minutes before greeted (before the band even started and still had an empty seating area). Tried to order a burger for 15 minutes. Then had to wait 1:15 for it, and had to even ASK the bartender if he could check on my food. Got a burnt but cold bun, some sort of reheated super well done dry patty, and a tomato slice bigger than the burger itself. Wanted to drink but took long enough between drinks that my glass was empty, and ALL the ice melted before I could get some sort of eye contact with a bartender for another. There were 2 bartenders running themselves all over the bar, but wouldn't make eye contact with anyone, ran out of glassware before the band even started, and were too busy to deliver food for anyone. Guy besides me asked for his wings to go since they took an hour (and I saw them sitting by the beer taps for 15 minutes), and a Styrofoam container was tossed to him and the bartender ran away. They get good bands from Jacksonville that rotate down to St Augustine so we wanted to stop in for dinner and drinks since we were in the area. Never again. read more

I have passed this place for what seems all my life. I grew up in Jacksonville and as a kid traveling US1 to St Augustine I remember passing Arnold's. Well today I went in and was stepped back in time. This bar still has a 1960's feel. This place has a large bar numerous tables and a stage. It was mid afternoon so the crowd was light and the bartender friendly. I learned the building is 52 years old. What a treat to stop in have a cold beer! Thanks for the hospitality! read more

First time in St. Augustine and we decided to do a local visit to Arnold's. The average price of a meal around town seems to be $20 we found out Arnold's has a Ribeye steak dinner with corn, green beans and a baked potato for $14.99. We made out way in and sat at the bar. The place was pretty full and several people were just drinking and chatting. There was only a couple of people that could serve and it was still great service. We ordered our drinks and we ordered our steak and met some pretty awesome people while waiting on our food. We never have met so many friendly people in our lives. Once our steaks arrived we both were extremely surprised with the size and the flavor of the Ribeyes. We didn't need any sauce and the temp was perfect. Our drinks were always kept full and the company was awesome. This is a local joint and the atmosphere is laid back and fun. read more

Thought I'd try this place after Bar Rescue had their shot. Well, it looks like the rescue failed miserably. Let's start with being asked to put a credit card on file before ordering anything. Really?? Next, we were informed that only their "fried menu" was available. I wasn't prepared to harden my arteries any more than they were already so my party of four aborted this gamble never to return. What a shame. Great location, lots of history, but substance: ZERO. Reply is laughable! Food hours??? It's a bar/restaurant. Nothing posted about certain hours you served food. And that still doesn't answer why you're the only restaurant that requires people to pre-post a credit card. read more

I have been coming to this establishment since the early 80's . I have had great times. I must say that since the bar sold recently, they had had some "bumps" in the road! I am very disappointed in the recent changes. Curtains...in a bar, well my take on them were extremely drab!! The Gator & bench... too touristy. Home town people have been carrying this place for years! Your bartender on Tuesday 12/26 completely ignored the bar that is nearest to the men's restroom. A friend & myself sat for over 15 minutes NO acknowledgment, not even a look in our direction as I raised my hand to try & get his attention. However, to no prevail. I get that you "the new owners" are trying to bring it up to date, but my oh so HUMBLE opinion is... a bar should have people with personality behind the bar. What was once a fun-loving place is now a hum drum place that customers do not feel welcome. Or at least my friend & I didn't. I won't say I will not be back, but hopefully, the atmosphere will be more welcoming. The face lift you just had done was just that a face-lift. Went here one time when the old owner ran it. The stage was awesome and there was a guy named Fre running the Open Mic. He followed the sign up list and the musicians from the area who showed up were nice and welcoming to a new performer. The food was actually pretty good and drink prices were cheap. Then it was a decent 4 star establishment! Enter NEW OWNER - Cheaped out on everything, cancelled Open Mic, and raised drink prices. Visiting friends and wanted to catch some karaoke. Arnold's has a steak night with karaoke going on every Thursday (regular menu not available that night). I don't eat beef, so I was excited to find out I could order chicken wings. They were quite possibly the best wings I've ever had. They were cooked to perfection and the flavors were on point. I got five mild and five garlic parmesan. One of my friends also opted for wings and got ten lemon pepper. His wings were just as good. Our other meal mates had a steak and a burger, respectively. The ribeye was juicy and tasty. The burger was good, only complaint was toppings were a bit much (thick tomato and lettuce) and there is only one off-brand chardonnay available. I've probably been to Arnold's forty times and had a great tIme every time except last night. The waitress Allie was the snootiest rudest server ever. It's a shame how one or two bad apples can ruin the night. Had to edit this review, because since this morning Allie is now making false accusations that are insane. I'm not sure a business should be allowing employees to attack customers that make bad reviews. It should be constructive criticism, instead of bashing a customer. We did nothing wrong here, except have a bad server. After her and another server were abrasive, we helped ourselves at the bar. The bartender was amazing by the way. I have to update this again, because Allie is continuing the name calling and harassment. Allie, you have me mistaken for someone else. Sorry honey, but that is not me. Excited to try the food- ordered Smashburger, and it was not good.. burger patty very small for the price and it came out charred on the outside,making it a not so pleasant choice. The Wings were very average and the chicken tenders were pretty good. Since they are just getting started on the food they have plenty of time to get things turned around.. If you love dive bars, you'll love Arnold's. It's everything I like in a bar: reasonably priced drinks, not overly crowded, friendly bartenders willing to help you figure out a new cocktail concoction to try, and live music. My boyfriend and I had been hanging out in the historic downtown area of St. Augustine. I love a lot of the bars there, but we'd had a busy day exploring and had just finished dinner so we were looking for something less crowded and less loud to just relax and chat for the rest of the night. This spot wasn't far from downtown so we headed there. It was perfect! A local band was playing a good mixture of old school rock (and even threw in some rock covers of Michael Jackson and Prince), the bartenders were cool, and we had a nice table in the corner to relax and have a conversation while enjoying the atmosphere. It's a smoker friendly bar, but they had filters that did a pretty good job of keeping the smoke from getting heavy. Still, if you are a nonsmoker and the smell bothers you, you may want to try a different spot. My boyfriend doesn't smoke and wasn't bothered by it, but he's amazingly tolerant towards smoky bars, haha. It's a fun place that I will happily hit up again next time I'm in town. read more

The band was good "Jason Evans band"! My company both ordered their signature drink the Boney's Top Hat drink and said it was good. I've been in there several times, since it was under its new ownership, and I order the same drink every time. every time I get it from Arnold's, there's practically no alcohol in it and I'm paying almost $15 per drink. Everywhere else I go, I get exactly what I order every time, except for Arnold's. this was never a problem in the past, so I can only assume it's a new rule, set forth by the new owner. regardless, I'm not gonna pay for something I'm not going to get. read more
