Food. - I don't know, I ordered the tom yum, which was dumb because I've never had tom yum. So I realized halfway through the first spoonful I had nothing to say here. I will say, it had lots of shrimp; they weren't cheap. - The chili dressing on the pork skewers was delicious. It never ceases to amaze me that Thai chefs can make fish sauce taste good. - My wife said the pad see ew was some of the best she's ever had. Service. It was all right. Courteous and fast. The fast kind of counts against them because we asked for my wife's appetizers at the same time as my soup, and they agreed but instead they brought them out right away. Not a big deal, all told. Don't miss stopping at Jaybird Superette next door, a quirky little store with wine, cheese, and more... so you can drive five minutes over to Mount Soledad Memorial Park after dinner, uncork it, and watch the sun dive into the great blue sea.

It wasn't bad but it wasn't something I would consider memorable. The fresh rolls had mostly bean sprouts. It had maybe one or two strands of carrot and no cucumber. The peanut sauce was on point, however the peanut dressing on the salad that came with my lunch special tasted watered down. I wish this place were more consistent and could make that same dreamy Panang curry every time and that all of their dishes would be as good as that meal. If you live in the neighborhood it might be a convenient Thai restaurant but know that it's likely to be hit or miss. At least half a dozen dishes had an X mark next to them which meant they were unavailable. From the four Fried Rice choices, I picked the Crabby version ($22). Jasmine rice, egg, spring onions, garlic, and real crab meat were the ingredients along with Thai seasoning. When the item was rung up on the register, it was priced at $24. I don't know why there was a discrepancy, but I didn't want to initiate a dispute so I kept quiet. I took a seat at a table and soon afterward, a bowl containing the contents was brought out. The rice was steaming hot. I asked for mild spiciness at level three, however it had more kick than I expected and left a buzz on my palate. The portion size was good, but not for $24 which was the most expensive I have seen for a crab variety. I gave a 3.5 star rating for my dinner at Hot or Not Thai.
