The pig buns are so fun! Pork inside is ground up with spices. (Not like a pork bbq bun.) I thought that it was tasty and nicely salted. Not the best pork bun I've had but it was so cute that I don't think that I cared. :) Also picked up a rainbow roll. Very heavy with the filler of crab meat and rice. Thin slivers of fish on top. I'd skip this one next time and get a different roll. I still enjoyed the takeout food at sunset by the park and would order from here again.
Beautiful breath taking views! The food here is fantastic! Service is great! Probably some of the best sushi I've ever tasted!
I went to Blue Ocean/Harumama today and sadly was a bit disappointed. The service was extremely slow and the waitress would hardly stop at my table to ask if I needed anything. It took them almost 30 minutes to take my order. It also took them a long time to bring me a glass of water after the start of the service. I ordered the dynamite roll and matcha cheesecake. Dynamite roll tasted okay and matcha cheesecake was very stale. The cheesecake also did not have an emphasis on the matcha flavor. Ambiance was standard and the lights were dimmer than expected. It was difficult to see. I had high expectations based on the pictures and reviews I saw online. Unfortunately, I may not be returning.
The salmon teriyaki and ramen bowl were delicious! The hostess service was not good at all. There was no communication. But our waitress was great. The ambience doesn't give upscale, but I'm not sure if that's what they were going for. It felt like a casual spot to me with a nice coastal view if you sit by the window. I would go back for the food and the view but not for the ambience.
Amazing view. Got to watch seals on the nearby beach while we waited for our dinner Service is great. We asked for the server's recommendation, she was so stoked about all the options, it felt like she recommended the whole menu by the time she was done We went with the Sushi and some appetizer, it was great. The Cow Bun, I was skeptical at first but flavor was pretty good.
Food was truly amazing and high quality and the sauce on the sushi weren't too smart nor too salty. The cow bun was what surprised me because of how tender the beef was. The poke bowl was really filling. Service was amazing and decently quick with the ambiance of the beautiful ocean that we got placed nearby to look at.
Stopped by for dinner the atmosphere was awesome and the service was great and the food was amazing will definitely visit again when I am back in town
The view at this place is amazing. My friends and I watched the sunset by the window, and it was everything. The atmosphere alone made the experience so special. We got our food in a timely manner, and our waiter was honestly the best. He was attentive, made jokes with us, and kept the conversation going, which made the whole night even more enjoyable. I really appreciate experiences where the people around you, including other guests, are kind and open to sharing recommendations. Our waiter also gave great suggestions and was very hospitable to me and my friends. We had a party of seven, and he still accommodated us really well. The food came out quickly, and the appetizers were amazing. I definitely recommend the calamari rings. The only thing I would note is that the wait was a little long, but that was mainly because of where we wanted to sit, and it is a pretty popular spot. We waited about 30 minutes, but it worked out because we walked down to the beach and had a really nice late night walk. Overall, it was such a great experience and definitely worth it.
044/2026/Feb This is an Asian fusion eatery offering sushi, ramen and a trendy bao buns !! A Valentine Date with hubby plus daughter and grandkids! Was a busy day so just decided to utilize the valet parking ...$20 /3 hrs and $2/hr after! Was still few hundred steps from valet to the restaurant! The wait was about 40 minutes upon checking in @3:56!!! So we went for a walk to the Coast Walk Trail! Upon getting back to the restaurant it took another 30 minutes wait from the 40 minutes ?????Really ?? We got seated at 5:15!!!! Service was great ! Hubby and I shared a Bulgogi Udon, fried pork potstickers and the Crab Rangoon!! We had sharable of sushi rolls, and we ordered the animal buns as well. Bulgogi Udon served with beef broth, bulgogi beef, caramelized onion topped with green onion, and sesame seeds... was very tasty and flavorful!!
This location is BEAUTIFUL! We went for happy hour and were seated right by the huge windows that overlook La Jolla cove and the sea lions. It was a breathtaking and relaxing place to sit. We went for happy hour, which was a great deal. I thought their crispy crab wontons were perfection, there were green onions and other things in there that made it a textural adventure (in a good way, love some crunch in my crab rangoons!). Wish we were hungry enough to try the character bao buns, those looked so fun!
What a wonderful and unique place that makes dinner memorable! We loved that they offer offered Ramen, sushi, and buns. And not just any buns, but shaped in what you're eating for the meat selections. The dessert is shaped like a bunny. The location is beautiful. You have a nice view of the ocean. Our server was incredibly helpful with our choices, especially for my husband who has a fair amount of allergies. The food was incredible! The cherry blossom I had was good, but not memorable. I do look forward to trying other drinks and items on the menu.
LOVEDDD dining here!! i was looking for ramen spots to try out in san diego and so many people recommended blue ocean / harumama! we were seated at a booth by the window -- since we came at night, we couldn't see the ocean, but i'm certain the view would be beaaautiful during the day or at sunset. such a cute date night spot :3 overall, the atmosphere was super modern and spacious. waiter was polite, meh service was just average. the me so hot ramen was yummy, but would probs get less or no peanuts next time. hawaiian roll had a yummy sauce and was DELISH, i was honestly surprised at how many rolls there were!! i was most looking forward to the cutie character buns hehe. chicken bun = soft and plush, texture inside reminded me of a tuna melt bunny bun = perfect, chef's kiss, no notes if you don't mind a short walk, skip the valet and find street parking (we found spots along ivanhoe ave on a weekday).
Blue Ocean/Harumama in La Jolla on Prospect St which has been here for over 6 years, is a very touristy area which is why I had avoided it but recently dropped by and and it was my first time dining here. I have dined at their branch restaurant Blue Ocean at the UTC Westfield and liked the food so I was excited trying this location. Parking is a major challenge. There is no online reservation system, you can call or just come in and take a chance as I did. I wanted a table next to a window to have the spectacular views of La Jolla Cove and the Pacific Ocean and the hostess suggested I wait a bit and she was able to accommodate my request yay!! The menu had lots to offer but I had to always try the miso soup, edamame nigiri and a Chickie Chickie Bun Bun, those fluffy character buns. The limited edition polar bear was out :( All that I ordered was prepared quickly and presented nicely and more importantly tasted all fresh and delicious. On my second visit, I had to try the High Noon spicy chicken ramen, since ramen is one of those things their known for. This ramen had the spicy chicken broth, sliced chicken tenders white meat, sliced black mushrooms, bamboo shoots, a semi hard boiled egg, green onions and I added garlic oil to enhance the flavor. The bowl of soup was presented temperature hot, look and smelled amazing. I usually have the broth first and a few bites of the contents and noodles but got too full to finish it all and had it boxed Togo. The staffers: hostess, waiters, waitresses and servers were all busy but very nice and offered to help, so service was great, they quickly cleared, cleaned the tables and eating areas kept the restaurant clean. The restaurant has outdoor seating without ocean views. Only the limited booth seating had ocean views. The other tables and bar seats don't have direct ocean views. If you're dining here, it's best to have ocean views to add to ambiance as you slurp the ramen and nosh on sushi and nibble on character bun buns, a visit to Blue Ocean/Harumama is a must. Recommend

Service and food were exceptional. We are from Redlands, CA and prices were comparable, impressed it was not overpriced. Character sticky buns were cute and tasty too. View seating from the window was gorgeous as well. Highly recommend and will be back. read more
My best friend and I share birthdays and this year our friend group came to visit me in my hometown to celebrate our birthday. My friends had really wanted to have a cute experience and have delicious food, so when I suggested Blue Ocean/Harumama they were all in. I've been to the Harumama in Little Italy but thought that the La Jolla location would be a better option because of the views. They don't offer reservations, but the Saturday we came they had plenty of seating. You can request to be sat by the window but the wait time was almost an hour and half long. Our server was great, super sweet and really wanted to make sure we had a good time. For food, we ordered karraage, takoyaki and garlic edamame to start. The karraage was so tender and crispy and the flavor of the chicken was great. This was my first time having takoyaki and it was pretty good and the garlic edamame was perfect it had so much garlic I was really happy. For sushi, we ordered a regular spicy tuna roll, Chef's Special Roll (shrimp tempura, krab, avocado and topped with spicy tuna) and the dynamite roll (deep fried California roll with baked langoustine on top). My friend on his own got the ramen and we ordered a the pork and cow buns. The service was great food came out so quickly and our water was always topped off. The sushi was so fresh, I just wish the spicy tuna was a little more spicy. I definitely want to come back, the views are gorgeous and I feel like this would be a cute date night or a fun place to go with your girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. read more
We came on a Friday around 4:30pm. They don't take reservations, but at that time we could have been seated right away. We decided to wait about 25 minutes for a window table, and I'm SO glad we did! The view was beautiful and really added to the experience. Parking in this area can be tricky since there are so many popular restaurants nearby and you're right by the beach. It's mostly street parking, but we ended up parking in the garage next to Duke's. It was $35 , but from there it was just a short walk to the restaurant. The restaurant has a really nice ambiance, and our waitress was great. I chose Blue Ocean/Harumama because I love ramen, but we were eating with our kids and I wanted somewhere that had plenty of options for them too. It ended up being a great choice for our family. I ordered the Flying Pig ramen, my husband got the Power Protein Poke, one daughter got the Crispy Chickie, and the other got a California Roll. My ramen was okay--not bad, just not my favorite ramen--but everyone else really enjoyed their meals. I tried some of the Crispy Chickie and it was really tasty! We also had to get one of the character buns . We ordered the Bunny Bun with Nutella and the girls loved it. We finished with the churros and chocolate sauce, which were delicious! One of my favorite parts about coming here was the location. After dinner we walked over to La Jolla Cove, watched the sunset and saw the seals. Everything was within walking distance, so it made dinner feel like part of a whole evening out rather than just going to a restaurant. Between the ocean view, atmosphere, kid-friendly choices and location, we had a really nice experience. If you have the time, I definitely think the window seating is worth the wait! read more

The best ramen shop in San Diego! Make sure to reserve ahead of time as tables fill up fast. The view is immaculate as you are on the edge of the La Jolla Cove and can see the shore. Flying Pig - The best broth I've ever had in a ramen hands down. The broth is savory and perfectly creamy. Chashu is extremely tender and the brussel sprouts melt in your mouth. read more
Harumama is my favorite ramen spot! This location is my absolute favorite not only because of the food, but because of the views as well! It overlooks the oceanfront and you can see groups of seals resting along the shore. Service here is always super friendly, and they're all very attentive to detail. My go-to ramen choice is the Flying Pig, and I enjoy the modern Asian-fusion flavors. The broth is rich and not too salty. The brussels sprouts add a nice, fresh crunch to the dish, and the pork chashu melts in your mouth! The lunch special is such a great deal, since we chose nigiri sashimi, a roll, and pork belly bao bun. The combo worked out very well because we got to try a variety of dishes, and we enjoyed all of it! Harumama/Blue Ocean would be a great date spot or simply a nice place to treat yourself! read more

My husband loved this restaurant when he went to UCSD, so we decided to come here for the memories and food! We came here on a Tuesday night and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a 50% sashimi deal Monday-Thursday. My favorite types of sashimi was the bluefin tuna and the fatty tuna. All the pieces of sashimi were super fresh. Highly recommend getting that here! Chicken Katsu - Fried perfectly, but a little oily. Loved the salad that came with it. Overall, I would definitely come back for the half off sashimi! read more

Came here for dinner and I was so excited to finally try their character buns! I got an order of their pork buns, they were so soft the inside was sweet and savory. We also got the crispy chickie and flying pig ramen. The flying pig was delicious, it had Brussels sprouts which was different. Nonetheless very tasty. We also got some sushi, a yellow tail roll, spicy tuna and crunch shrimp roll. All were super yummy and nicely thick cut. To finish, I got some bunny Nutella buns and I absolutely loved them. It wasn't too pricey either, service was fast and quick as well. I'll definitely be returning when I'm back in the area. The only downside was that the parking here was crazy! It was a Sunday night and there was nothing within walking area besides $30 public parking and valet. read more

Wow! Our hidden gem in La Jolla. I'm reluctant to write a review because I don't want them to be packed when we stop in!! Beautiful views of the Cove, great service and spectacularly fresh sashimi. We enjoy visiting for Happy Hour and have hot Sake with sashimi. read more

We ordered the Superhero Poke, Rainbow Sushi, and the character buns. Everything was fresh and flavorful, but the character buns really stood out with their soft exterior and delicious savory beef filling inside. We were seated by the window with a beautiful view overlooking La Jolla, which made the meal even better. The interior is bright and inviting with lots of natural light, and the overall atmosphere feels clean and modern. We went here for lunch on a weekday so that it's not so busy in LaJolla. Parking was still an issue and we ended up parking in a lot for $20. We were seated at the last table by the window. Yes! Gorgeous view of the ocean, the many varieties of birds, and sea lions sunbathing on the beach below. We took advantage of their great lunch special. You get to choose an appetizer and entree. We both chose the pork belly bao and a full size ramen combo for $18. The Me So Hot ramen was delicious with a nice heat. Delicious! read more

Came to Blue Ocean desperately hungry and left satisfied! We were sat to a table with incredible ocean side views of the La Jolla Cove, seals, swimmers, and the tropical blue ocean. The menu is filled with diverse options that we were overwhelmed with what to order. We decided to order the Omakase Box, Hawaiian Roll, Haru Ramen, and Takoyaki. The Omakase Box was plated beautifully and was so delicious. The Hawaiian Roll was a bit too sweet for my liking. The Haru Ramen was the star of the show, perfectly flavored and the bamboo shoots add a crunchy touch. The Takoyaki was also delicious and filled with octopus. Next time I come to La Jolla, I want to eat at Blue Ocean again to explore their menu furthermore. read more

We're from out of town and decided to give this place a try. The sushi was amazing! Highly recommend both rolls. Ramen was hearty and flavorful. Not as spicy. Highly recommend the spicy edamame as well. They were very generous with the Sauce on it. I think the price is very reasonable and not super pricey at all. The food came out quickly as well but we did dine in In the evening on a weekday. Highly recommend and I would come back again when in La Jolla! read more
Was honestly a bit disappointed with my food here! Started off with miso soup that ended up being super salty. We also ordered the scallop, albacore, salmon, and tuna nigiri. The cuts of fish didn't seem to be very fresh when they came out. We ordered the Madison roll last and it was great! However, we tried to order another Madison and were served a bad cut of fish! Every piece of tuna in the roll had chewy connective tissue in it. Was super disappointed :( Service was great though and there's a pretty view of the ocean from the window seats! read more

Firstly I loved the aesthetic and vibes of the restaurant! Wasn't too busy Saturday around 12:30PM, but all the tables along the window were full so we decided to sit in the second row closest instead of being put on the waitlist. The two of us shared the following dishes: Crunch shrimp roll ($13): good, lots of tempura flakes Cow (beef) buns: savory and the beef was on the sweeter side Haru ramen: unfortunately I really didn't enjoy this one, the tonkatsu broth itself was good but the flavor of the ramen overall was more sour and I didn't like the flavor. Lots of corn and wood ear mushrooms which was nice Service was good and fast. Parking is as expected in La Jolla. Overall, I would come back for the view! read more

Had to wait 40 minutes to get seated (party of 5). Ambiance was quiet and relaxing. Bulgogi udon had that rich umami flavor. Udon was cooked just right. Not too soft and not dry either. All buns so artistically presented almost like you wouldn't want to bite on it. Taste though did not meet my expectation. Not bad but I've had better ones. My friends and I had a great experience here! We waited a bit longer for a window seat and it did not disappoint. The view of the ocean was beautiful. Food was also good ! We enjoyed sharing the character buns. My personal favorites was the pork bun for savory and the bunny (nutella) for dessert. The buns were not too large or small, had a good propotion of meat to bun, and I loved how soft the buns were! We also enjoyed the bulgogi fries, which was larger than we thought and flavorful, as well as some ramen and udon, which everyone enjoyed. Our waiter was also very attentive and checked in on us often. Parking may be a hassle since it is by the beach. But street parking is available. So I recommend carpooling. read more

Pro tip: come on a Friday close to open at lunch to get a window view. Would skip ordering the calamari next time (dry & chewy) but the omakase was perfect. They ran out of salmon collar and offered to substitute for the yellowtail collar (didn't mention it cost more) and also was overcooked. Served checked on us regularly and water was filled appropriately. read more

This restaurant has a spectacular view. Only some booths next to the windows overseeing La Jolla Cove. It is a big restaurant with tables inside and out. The restaurant offers delicious variety of sushi, sashimi, ramen, noodles and their famous character bao buns. Quality of the food is excellent, worth the price even though is super affordable for being in La Jolla. High quality for the sashimi and poke. Character Bao buns were made to point, pork chicken and nutella. Service is always great. We do come on the weekdays though for lunch and dont need to make reservations. I suggest making reservations for the weekend. Parking is street parking (very challenging) so we just pay for parking in one of the paid public parking. Do they take reservations?
Last I checked a couple months ago they don't. Only thing close to a reservation is if you want a table by the window and have to wait for it, they'll put your name on the waitlist, but only if you're there in person.
Do they accommodate for a gluten allergy?
Yes, they have gluten-free noodles as one of their ramen options.
Is there parking?
There is street parking that's impossible to find during lunch/dinner hours, even during weekdays. But there is valet next door at George's.
Can they accommodate a peanut allergy?

How can we seated nearest to the ocean view ? Do we need to make reservation or call ahead?
There's limited seating outdoor with ocean view. It's best go when they first open since they don't take reservation.

Does this place take reservations?
I'm sorry, we unfortunately do not take reservations. I recommend calling ahead of time, and asking host/hostess for an estimate of the wait time.
Is the patio dog friendly?
We love fur babies but are only allowing service dogs in the restaurant/patio area .
Are gluten free noodles and/or broth available?
We do have a gluten free noodle available on the menu but our veggie broth base used in the vegan ramen, does have components of yeast in it.
