I was in La Jolla craving thai food so I decided to stop by this cafe. Service wise, the waitresses were very kind. I ordered wontons, calamari, pad-se-eew, fried rice with shrimp and sausage, and panang curry. The fried rice was so good and very flavorful. The wontons and calamari were good as well, I just wish the calamari had less batter and more calamari. The pad-se-eew was average, I had to add sugar because it wasn't sweet at all. The curry was also average. Overall 3/5 dishes were excellent and the other 2 were fairly decent. I think it's worth the try if you are ever in the area! read more

We were really craving some lighter food with veggies after all the eating out we'd been doing and this place did not disappoint! We tried several different dishes and they were all delicious. In the strip mall by The Lot, drive down from la for the weekend and this was a great find. Super authentic flavors and spice. The decoration inside was very strange with signs for 'Americana', but the food was the bomb. We had the cream cheese rangoons, Papaya Salad, Pad Kee Mau and Green Curry Fried Rice.. all excellent. Sad to say, this was the most bland pad see ewe I've ever had. First off, it comes with regular broccoli and not Chinese broccoli. It was so bland I even had to resort putting some crushed red pepper on it to give it some flavor (you know, the kind for pizza - it was all we had at work). Parts of the pad see ewe were actually salty which is odd since usually pad see ewe is on the sweeter side. The egg was probably the best part of the whole dish. I got mine without spice but this is my go-to dish anywhere else and I've never had an issue with this dish being tasteless at any other Thai restaurant. Don't order the pad see ewe, but if you do, don't order a 1. Sidenote: We ordered through Postmates and they got our order wrong - AND received 2 additional entrees we ended up having to pay for. This is not being factored into my rating. This might not be the restaurant's fault, but I still would not return. read more

Small, intimate, not fancy, not crowded (though granted, we get there before 6 pm), but simply the freshest, tastiest Thai food in La Jolla. Incredibly consistent quality of food and presentation, always pleasant and prompt waitresses and attentiveness. Nice assortment of traditional Thai curries and noodles but other very colorful, vegetable stir fry options. My wife is a thirty year vegetarian and loves Aroi because of all the wonderful flavors. Food is light and you go home feeling you ate well and healthy. Very reasonable prices. Tip: Across from the La Jolla Village Vons in the same shopping center but avoid the crowded parking lot and park on the street, even south of Pearl on Fay and stretch your legs and enyoy the walk. What a happy find! After stopping at Von's to pick up some travel supplies, saw this little Thai place tucked away in a shopping strip at the other end of the parking lot. I ordered the Pad Ped with Tofu (5/10 on heat) and it was DELICIOUS! Packed with veggies and fried tofu (you can opt not to have your tofu fried) that had a unique cut - not just plain cubes. Also enjoyed a glass of their house Cabernet. Service was polite. Just a heads up...5/10 didn't taste spicy to me at all. If I were to order again, 10/10 without a doubt. read more

The food is leveled to standards for Thai people who like spicy food as well as newcomers with a 1 - 10 spicy scale. I ordered shrimp silver noodles with half moon and Thai tea. Although the food is not presented fancy, the ingredient tastes and looks fresh, the silver noodles had a surplus mixture of both vegetables and meat(or tofu); everything just mixed together well including this flavor of both salty and sweet within the silver noodles. Everything had a purpose, this simplicity of a family cooked meal. The pricing of food is reasonable and the portions will guarantee a full stomach. The atmosphere follows a contrast between wood and metal as well as allowing both natural light and dim lighting. The design welcomes frequent customers by different sets of chairs for each table for individual comfort though I usually eat outside. The menus are easy to read and well designed. Everything follows a "hand made" industrious art style that you don't see in other Asian or Thai restaurants. The persona follows individuality and portrays Asian restaurants beyond stereotypes that you see basically everywhere else. The service is great and the staff are very generous people. Such a great place for the dinner! My husband and I went to La Jolla for the vacation and I found this place because I was craving for Thai food. It looks new and very cosy, the waiter was super nice and freindly. They even have huge plazma so we could enjoy FIFA 2014. The food came so fast and was super delicious and just the way we wanted it. The plates are huge so we even took some boxes to go. 40$ for two big plates plus appitazers plus nice raspberry wine is a great price. Highly recommend this place!!! read more

Updating my review for this place. Came back here for business lunch and had pad Thai. It was good and had great service. They actually had more staff and stopped a couple times by our table and asked if we were doing okay and if we needed anything. Glad to find a place that caters to gluten free foods. We will continue to come back to this place. I love having iced green tea and free refills. I also love their fresh rolls. Very close to our place of business that's a plus. The only reason I rate this place a four-stars is because Aroi Thai took over for my old favorite place, Thai Pan. I have never been able to find Thai noodles as delicious as the ones at Thai Pan, so until I do, every place will only be a four stars. Also the decor is kind of strange, and they took away the big curtain in the back that I really enjoyed (it allowed for a large group table to be transformed into a sort of separate room to be created when the curtain was drawn). HOWEVER, the food here is truly excellent. Don't be fooled by the fact that they're almost always empty (or nearly empty). I've tried tons of Thai places all over San Diego, as I grew up here, and Aroi Thai definitely takes the crown. My favorites are the Thai Fried Rice and the Drunken Noodles. They're seriously to die for, and always consistently cooked to perfection. Also if you're a vegetarian like me, you'll LOVE the fried tofu. Even compared to other Thai places I've been in big cities like Seattle, Chicago, and Boston, I've never had Thai tofu as delicious as Aroi's. It's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and thoroughly packed with the flavor of whatever dish it's in. They will also lessen the oil in their dishes if asked, which makes their noodle and rice dishes much healthier. They also deserve good marks for their great service. Their wait staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, and the food comes out really fast. When you order take out, it's ready to pick up in 10-15 minutes! Don't have doubts about this place. Came here with a friend that just moved into the Village. I had not been here yet even though I thought they just opened, the gentleman told us they had been there for 2 years now. There was only one other couple in the restaurant when we arrived after the lunch rush hour. They have a nice huge tv on the wall in the dining room, which we soon found out only showed their menu pictures. Good to know ahead of ordering if you like to see what you are getting before you order. We both had the lunch specials which were really reasonable. They come with a choice of soup or salad (very small portions) and either fried Summer rolls or Fresh ones. Again , only 1 but it comes with peanut sauce which was great. Nice and creamy and not too strong. I had the Chicken Pad Ped I think it was called. Lots of vegetables. I posted a picture and all the ingredients. It had nice flavors but was very salty. My friend had the Cashew Chicken and it was good but way too salty also. He is sensitive to salt for health reasons and felt it right away. That was disappointing since it tasted pretty good. The service was ok. Didn't take too long but also nothing to write home about. No one was too friendly or attentive. I had to ask for water, the chilis and also for soy sauce (which we did not put on our food after all) Initially it was for the rice. So, I would probably pass on this one if I had the choice. read more

I read a review that said it was the best Thai food that the person at ever had. My meal was absolutely delicious, but, I have never had drunken noodles before so I can't compare. I had a little bit of the kids Thai rice when they weren't looking, and it was delicious as well. Service was great. Mill came out in the normal amount of time. They have a travel video playing on the TV about Thailand. I actually enjoyed watching this instead of the sports that are on at most places :-) read more

I found Aroi Cafe thanks to Yelp. It seemed like a pretty new place as it only has around 40 reviews but is currently at 4.5 stars. It is in the plaza right by Vons. I am always up for a new Thai restaurant so we went after watching the sunset in La Jolla. It definitely wasn't busy on a Saturday and I was glad there was one other couple there. At least we would get good service attention. We had the drunken noodles and spring rolls. The menu wasn't overpriced for La Jolla. The spring rolls were refreshing with good peanut sauce. The drunken noodles was solid but not amazing. The service as expected was very quick as we're were definitely finished in under an hour. I recently adopted a vegetarian diet which began my search for quality food that would satisfy my dietary needs. I found Aroi Cafe, a local Thai restaurant, with many tofu, vegetable and rice based dishes. I had the Curry Fried Rice with a Level 5 spice and it was delightful. The rice was tender, the tofu was perfectly fried and the spice level had just the right amount of heat providing great flavor and easy eating. I'm truly excited to eat the leftovers! I ended the meal with fried bananas drizzled in honey and a light sprinkling of powdered sugar. It was a lovely vegetarian friendly meal. I rated Aroi with 5 stars simply based on food. The atmosphere, although nice, was empty and provided lackluster service. I will most likely get takeout next time, for that will not deter me from the fabulous food! read more
