The food here is excellent and the proprietor is, as well. Four stars because I think they should have a sign up about allergies to MSG or Gluten. Having eaten here a few times in the past, had no idea they used MSG in some dishes until I got home- and got sick. Wow this place is the bomb! It's tucked away in the Vons parking lot and is a true gem. The curry puffs appetizer is probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. We ordered them on a whim and were so amazed at how delicious they were. For dinner we got Papa's Noodles w/ beef and Red Curry w/ chicken. We LOVED Papa's Noodles with beef!! One thing I was really impressed with was their spice scale. It is a true 1-10 scale. We got spice level 3 for the curry and it wasn't really spicy. Next time in we got level 6 and it was spicier. This place is not at all worth the lofty price they charge, not even close. The food was OK...just OK...your average run-of-the-mill Thai menu, nothing special in my opinion. The interior looked worn down, dirty and sticky, with cheap plug-in fans positioned all around the dining area. Service was terrible. The two young women servers were sat down and started eating in front of is. When we got the check we noticed they charged us dinner prices, even though we were there during lunch hours. The server said we should have asked specifically for the dinner portions. This isnt at all clear on their menu. We asked to have the lunch prices honored because it was our first time and the menu is confusing. They said no, wtf. Way to go, nice way to get first time customers to come back. After a long walk from shell beach we tried to get away from restaurants loaded with tourist . So we went to this Thai place and tried their lunch special. We had chicken curry and drunken noodles with shrimps which we requested to be spicy. It was very delicious like being in Thailand. We also had spring rolls which taste very fresh and authentic. My friend and I were in the mood for Thai food and we were coming back from La Jolla Beach. Yelp took us here, and I was a little skeptical about the yelp reviews, because yelp is sometimes a hit or miss with me. Well, let me tell you that this place is a hit! 6 pm on a Wednesday and it wasn't crowded at all. The location of this restaurant probably isn't the best, as it's nestled in a Vons parking lot, along with other shops and surrounding restaurants in the area. So this restaurant could easily be missed, unless you are specifically looking for it, like we were. At least parking isn't an issue, like it usually is in La Jolla when you are trying to find a place to eat. The ambiance is nice, and the place is clean. My friend and I ordered thai iced tea, but they ran out of half and half. So my friend ordered hot ginger tea instead and that was really good. I asked the waitress what brand it is because it was so good I wanted to purchase it myself! She didn't know. I ordered the yellow curry with tofu (choice of fried or not, opted for the fried) and my friend ordered the pad see ew with combo meat (chicken/beef/pork). My friend can't handle too much spicy so we ordered a level 4 spicyness. The yellow curry was very good and flavorful. I can taste the fish sauce, but it wasn't overly salty at all. The pad see ew was delicious and flavorful as well. The rice was cooked well, it wasn't too wet and sticky, or too grainy. My friend and I shared both dishes, and I was really satisfied with both dishes. For dessert, we got the sticky rice and mango. We originally ordered the roti with condensed milk but they said they ran out of it. The sticky rice had a great texture, sweet and sticky. The mango was soft and sweet. Overall really happy and satisfied with this restaurant. I'll be sure to come back and bring my boyfriend here for a nice dinner date. And it won't be an expensive dinner either :) read more

I wanted to update this review and mention a couple of other delicious dishes I've tried! The Kua Gai is amazing here! It's a noodle dish similar to pad see ew and drunken noodles but I like it a lot more lately then those go-to noodle dishes! The crispy duck is also delicious and comes on a bed of lettuce with rice! Pulling into the grocery store complex, I wasn't too sure about this small restaurant next to a cleaners when there were so many good restaurants in the area. I put my doubts aside because I was in the mood for good Thai food and I'm glad did. This is a small, quiet restaurant that mostly seems to get takeout orders. My sister and I had the restaurant to ourselves. We enjoyed the Larb salad to start, which was so flavorful, the best I've had in a while. We ordered the green curry (not very green, but still really good!) and drunken noodles. I highly recommend this place for good food, friendly service, and a quiet dinner. read more

Ordered the combo mixed vegetable stir fry and it was fabulous. The veggies were fresh--mushrooms, red bell peppers, green beans, broccoli, carrots, onions, etc., and the beef, chicken and pork were tender. The steamed rice was moist, which is not always the case at Thai restaurants. Only challenge to their success will be that their location is off the beaten path x2. It is in the center of the Vons shopping center parking lot, and the stairs to access the restaurant are a few doors away. Well worth the effort though! read more

Am a college student at UCSD. Found this place when looking for thai food and man am I glad I did. Authentic thai food and great service. Spoke with the owner and she told me to "Tell my friends". I guess the place isn't doing exceptionally well for some reason. My friends and I love this place and go quite often. I order the spicy basil fried rice with egg and veggies. Spicy level 8. Food stays hot for a good amount of time (I always order take out). Nice people working there, I hope more people eat here so they don't close down. We came across this restaurant on our way to La Jolla Cove. I definitely recommend. Taste of Food: Delicious food. We ordered pad thai, thai fried rice and two different spice levels of pad kee mao. They asked for what level of spice (scale of 1-10) we wanted for the pad kee mao.The level four was not spicy and the level eight was very spicy. Having lived in Bangkok for four months, their level 8 pad kee mao was pretty good. The other dishes were good too. Vegetarian friendly: Yes. If you are vegan, ask them to see if the dish contains egg. The pad kee mao did which I'm not used to having eggs in that dish. Service: Servers were very friendly. They gave us all a complimentary hibiscus drink and Ghirardelli Valentine's chocolates in honor of Valentine's day. Atmosphere: Very clean, relaxing, and stylish. The restaurant looks very nice. Cost: Unbelievably low. Portions were a good size. The girls had leftovers and the guy in our group was stuffed. The dishes for lunch were around $10 or less. Parking: This was the down side. Either you have to park in the street or in the Von's parking lot which in a two hour maximum slot for Von's shoppers only. I'll be back when I return to La Jolla :) read more
