    Seasonal moon cakes
    Will F.

A couple of days before driving back to NYC a I searched online and many peeps suggested Aroma's pastries and seasonal moon cakes. Thus the day before the drive home I purchased their mini moon cakes, honey noodle cake (ma jai), and wife cake to sample taste as well as compare against other recommended bakeries before committing to loading up pastries for friends/family. I was pleasantly satisfied with the taste, texture, and quality of the moon cake as well as the honey noodle cake. It was also nice that these items were better than the other highly reviewed bakeries. Thus the next day we returned to Aroma and with the friendly and helpful staff as well as the few parties of locals and tourists in the bakery that morning all buying Aroma's fresh out of the oven curry beef puff pastry by the dozens. I made my decision to load up on Aroma moon cakes, honey noodle cakes, and curry beef puff pastry. Also picked up a couple of bbq pork puff pastry. On the road back home we tried the curry beef puff pastries and we were blown away - no wonder people were buying them by the dozens! So epic tasty smooth filling and the layered flakiness is heaven in our mouths. Then tried the 2 BBQ pork puff pastries once we got home the next day which was just about as lovely a day later. Shame we didn't pick up a dozen of these as well! Next time I visit TO this is a go to spot and will be even more aggressively buying by the dozens! Now the aroma is just a missed memory.

My favourite Chinese bakery in Toronto hands down!!! I love their plain cake (雞旦糕) and winter melon wife cake (老婆餅). I used to like their bread but not as much compared to their cake. They lotus seed stuffed cake (旦黃蓮蓉酥or皮旦蓮蓉酥) are also good. On weekends they sometimes have sesame balls (煎堆). My grandma likes their 雞仔餅, it is not my cup of tea as I have sweet tooth (not into savory stuff). My favorite Chinese cake place and will definitely return if I am in Toronto. The lady at counter is also very nice. She explained these cute cake are Chinese wedding cake with dragon and Phoenix. The inside is like mooncake but a flat version. It looks so pretty and wished they sell them !

This place offers traditional Chinese pastry for Chinese wedding like the melon paste "wife" cake, preserved egg or salty egg tart, sponge cake, etc. They have nice packages as gifts for the bride family from groom side as a Chinese custom. I especially love the melon paste "Wife" cake because it is always fresh and soft, not overly sweeten.

I do enjoy simpler things in life. With this newer trend of fancy bakery shops popping up all over Toronto and GTA, I starting to value some traditional Chinese pastry. They are not photo worthy or can attract all these LIKES, but food is more than just worth posting online. Sweetheart Cake 老婆餅 or Wife's Cake is one of those classic examples. There are a few folklore of who and why this was named. But I do love the chewiness and the QQ texture as glutinous rice flour is used to mix in with candied wintermelon. One of the best Chinese bakery to get one of these is at Aroma Bakery. They baked all their pastries on site and you can just smell how good they are even before stepping in.

Whenever I am craving for Chinese pastries, I will buy their melon paste cakes ("wife cake") & salty egg pastries. Those are my favors! My 3-year-old especially like their egg white sponge cakes and mini buns ^^. Food: 4/5 One of the best Chinese pastries in Toronto with reasonable price. Service: 4/5 Staffs are friendly and helpful. Environment: 5/5 Nice and clean. 3 locations in Markham & Scarborough.

My wife always judges a French Cafe by their Butter Croissant ($3.00) and she liked it! She also noticed all the  staff speak French sp it gives it even more legitimacy.  She also ordered a Flat White ($4.50) which was also good. I ordered a Plum Almond Tart ($7.25) because it was the prettiest. It was super delicious so it was definitely a good choice! Service was courteous and friendly. You place your order at the counter and bring it to your table. Someone will come around to clear the dishes when you are done It is a great place to have a nice casual time eating and socializing. They make all their food in-house in the basement. There are products for sale such as coffee beans, fruit syrup, maple syrup, smoked sauces, olive oil, scented soap, wine glassware, etc. I will definitely come back again to try other items. There is free WiFi. The neo-bisto is not wheelchair accessible since there are stairs leading up to the entrance. There are two gender-neutral washrooms. There is free street parking on their one-way south-bound street. Review 2023-017

Amazing place! I…read morecalled ahead to find out if they had this plum tart I purchased the first time I was there. Yet no one answered the phone. No problem. Hopped on my bike and a half hour later I was there. The friendly staff helped me by answering my question regarding eggs and which items did not have any in the recipes. This place was also super poppin' when I got there. It was earlish in the day around 10:30am and it seemed all the tables were pretty much taken. They are adding a dinner menu which is very exciting. Their pastries are phenomenal!!! Picked up a plum and pistachio tart, a chocolate mousse cake and an apple Danish for my mom. Plus a chocolate caramelized croissant. So much butter, and yet so good. Brought my container, which they happily used. The last time I visited this spot back in 2022, I vowed I would come back and take up space in that beautiful bay window seat. Yet I haven't followed through with that yet. One day. They also changed the name, since I was there last it was called Le Conciliabule Lab. Le Conciliabule means, "speak easy", as their website says. It was used back in the day to describe a place where people would come together and talk about everything and nothing. I can definitely say that happens here. What a beautiful concept, "everything and nothing". Now named Bisou, which means kiss. That's actually really simple and sweet. Since every pastry and any food item or beverage enjoyed here is a kiss for your tastebuds. Love it. Keep going team. You are amazing!
