It does have an inviting feel for me. Plus they actually do make cold brew, which is a procedure to make the coffee less acidic. It is slow dripped over long period of time, like other places like Starbucks that serve expresso on ice and call it cold brew. There is actually a reason to making cold brew coffee. It is made for those who love coffee but have acid reflux issues. Or want to prevent any stomach indigestion. They also sell vegan muffins of carrot cake flavor and banana bread.

When I entered, I observed an older man behind the counter. There was also a woman behind the counter who appeared to be accustomed to his behavior. I'm assuming he is the owner, although I cannot say that for certain. I'm not sure why the woman did not take our order or offer assistance. We waited approximately ten minutes without receiving service. During that time, the man was continually talking over the interactions taking place, including making a joke involving sexual orientation toward a young customer and his father. I found the comment inappropriate and uncomfortable, particularly given the age of the customer. After waiting for approximately ten minutes and experiencing the slow service and the man continually talking over the interactions, we decided to leave so we could continue with our plans. We did not leave because of the joke. As we were leaving, the same man remarked to us, "There's a coffee shop across the street that doesn't tell gay jokes." I found this comment particularly presumptuous because we had not told him why we were leaving, and we had not made any comments about the earlier interaction. He simply assumed that the joke was the reason we were leaving, when it was actually the lack of service and the overall interaction that led us to leave. I also found the atmosphere of the establishment itself to be uncomfortable. The entire place was very dark, poorly lit, and strangely decorated, which did not create a particularly welcoming environment. If I could offer one piece of advice to the owner or staff, it would be simple: keep the unnecessary commentary to yourself and focus on providing good customer service and serving coffee. If I wanted jokes, I would go to a comedy show--not a coffee shop. I especially never would have expected to encounter jokes about sexual orientation at a coffee shop while visiting with my 16-year-old. Regardless of someone's personal sense of humor, there is a time and place for those types of comments, and in my opinion, a customer-facing business is not the place for them. Overall, what should have been a simple visit to purchase coffee left me uncomfortable, disappointed, and with no desire to return. A really fun atmosphere, almost to the point where it kinda parodies a hipster environment. It doesn't take itself seriously. But they do take their coffee seriously, putting in effort on presentation and hospitality. Soft ambient rock plays in the background. They have a projector screen on the wall to your left as you enter. Drink names are cheeky (Donnie Charko for charcoal, anyone?!) My cortado was "Donnie Charko" flavored and each sip transported me to my couch with a blanket and soft rock. I'm pretty sure this is my new go-to spot when I visit Brownsville. It's everything I want in a coffee shop and more.

What it lacks in decor, it makes up for in flavor. Despite the lack of decorations, it's still a cozy shop with an impressive selection of homemade syrups and specialty lattes like the Honey Bear, Cookie Butter, and Cereal Milk. My sister ordered the lemonade and it was very good and very tart! It made both of my ends pucker. The cortado is lovely. Not punchy, fantastic texture and cream. Just a touch of Mexican vanilla flavoring so that it doesn't take over. Smooth and silky. One of the better cortados I've had in the city (Probably in my top 3 now?) Really the only downside is how hidden away it is. Boca Chica is an extremely busy street, so you have to be intentional coming here. It's not necessarily a "stumble upon" spot like with others. Regardless, I'm hoping word will spread and Cure will build up a loyal fanbase. I know I'm a fan.
