Marty at Angelita's is rocking the smoothest, most balanced, long-enjoying, chocolatey, cold process, cold coffee I have had in a long time...and by long time, I mean, I'm a coffee roaster and I had some really good coffee Yesterday, back in San Francisco ... and to stumble across this careful, studious, mad scientist, meticulously light-roasting an amazing Brazilian bean from the Cerrado region...careful to not simply burn it like 90% of folks do, but hang wayyy back and let those complex fruit notes and spices survive the Texas heat AND humidity, and boom, in this music-lover's paradise of a room, quietly protected to perfection. We used to go to this coffee shop before there were so many others, everything was great, the owner ( I guess) always welcomed you with a " welcome home" greeting, that was very nice. But one day we went in a hurry and there was only one person serving, there was many people and so I understand it was going to take a while to be served then 30 min passed and we just left.. we were 4 people and we couldn't wait any longer. Great coffee! Creepy owner This morning my boyfriend and I went to Angelita's to enjoy some lattes and were enjoying our experience until he went to pay. Marty, the owner, then asked if I go to the gym to which I replied yes. Unfortunately, Marty then followed with "l feel confident enough to say you've got a really sexy back." Naturally, both my boyfriend and I were caught off guard and let down. I never expected to be sexualized at a cafe that I thought was a safe and cozy space. My friends and I came here to catch up after a while, the food and drinks 10/10 and the place itself was really cozy and had a nice atmosphere. But unfortunately, what threw us off was how often the server (or possibly the owner) kept interrupting our conversation. I ordered the Iced Mexican Mocha and tried a sip of my friend's Iced Mazapán coffee; they were yummy! The place had a very cozy ambiance, and the server was very welcoming and attentive. IGNORE THAT OTHER 1 STAR REVIEW! This is actually a 5 star but LET ME EXPLAIN! I am not from the area (I am from McAllen) but was told about this place. I needed to be in town for personal stuff just to explain why I was in town. Anyway. So in being told about this place, I did the sensible thing and looked up on here and saw mostly good reviews but I saw a 1 star. I read it and I felt it contradicted many of the reviews. I even checked the reviews on Google just to be sure and to see if anyone there said anything. NOTHING. Anyway. So now for my experience. I was just there earlier this evening. To my discovery, that chick be lying! LYING!!! Quickly found out who Marty was. I didn't tell Marty I saw the review, I let his character show for itself. I saw how he can stumble on his words but he was soo soo kind to me and to all the other patrons. I believe he also said he was autistic and had adhd. To be fair, I was just overhearing him talk to someone else about that, but if I heard right, makes less sense why he would say what that other girl said, or even if he did, that chick cannot take a compliment! Why? Well speaking of compliments, I heard him give compliments to the other patrons. He even joked with a married couple "apologizing" for their marriage. It was genuinely hilarious how he did it. I left a 1 star so it can get peoples attention, but this place truly deserves all the stars! I feel bad for leaving a 1 star because I never leave reviews, but I absolutely felt the need to correct the wrong of that other review! Ok. Let's see how I can start this. I'm speechless. This place is far, far beyond what I expected it to be. I moved away from Brownsville about 4 years ago and coming back every so often I don't get to check many new things out in town since I'm usually here to spend time with family and friends. One night a buddy and I had dinner but wanted to continue our convo and asked him if there were any coffee shops around town that was still open at the time that had at best, decent coffee. He pondered for a moment and 5 minutes later we ended up coming here. Now, every time I visit Brownsville I'll make it a ritual to visit angelitas every time. The coffee was damn near perfect. 10/10 The pastries/desert options were fantastic. 10/10 The environment was nothing like I remember Brownsville being like when I left. So laid back? Great lighting, not too bright not too dark. Live music to bring the place alive and to enjoy some entertainment while sipping on your cup of happiness. To the owners, the workers, and the entire business. Keep up what you're doing, you're definitely representing Brownsville in the best way by giving people a great spot to enjoy without having to go out on the weekend and partying. The cozy eclectic vibe is inviting. Tried the Abuelita Mocha and the Mazapán coffee over ice. The barista was very attentive in preparing the drinks exactly as we requested. Resulted in caffeine heaven. Highly recommend! Live music on weekends too! read more

My mom waxed poetic about this shop and its collection of paintings, so when I came down to visit this place was first on my list to try. The space is too cool for school, it's off the busy street of Boca Chica, but easily accessible through less congested back roads. The walls are covered in beautiful artworks, comprising of abstracts, portraits, and still life. (They are for sale, too!) Assorted pastries are sold but their impressive coffee menu is what I came for. I ordered The Cricket, which has cold brew, Topo Chico, Green Mint, and vanilla, and what a visual it was! The green mint sunk to the bottom, looking like a brunette with dark green dip dyed hair. (Me. I'm saying it looked like me.) The owners are incredibly passionate about their craft and I had a conversation about all the San Antonio coffee spots and how they did research up in the area when opening their own shop down in Brownsville. One of the coolest things about this place is their love and respect for first responders. They even have a table set up in remembrance for those who served. Excellent little spot in a city still trying to figure out how to embrace its budding coffee culture. read more

This place is amazing! Me and my fiancée just moved to Brownsville and we both love the atmosphere. The owners are really friendly, great people and Marty is a delight to talk to. The coffee is suuuper tasty and they put a lot of effort into choosing their selection. Live music on Friday's and Saturday's. Cozy seating including couches. They have a small library you can read from with a "take a book, leave a book" program. They have paintings from local artists for sale on the walls. If you're looking for a good cold brew, just wanting to chill out with a good book, pick up some local art, or vibe to some live music this is the spot for you 10/10 read more

We had no idea what to expect. We just needed to fill an hour. And now we can't wait to come back. The ponytail barista is truly an artist. He doesn't just serve coffee. It is truly dry roasted by hand art in a cup. I would suggest the Mexican mocha. Unbelievable. And the compassion he shows all of his guests whether they are paying customers or street merchants coming in to make a sale was touching and it showed incredible integrity. This place is awesome! Stopped in for a quick drink and bite during a road trip and was so happy to find this gem. I love coffee shops and this one totally fit the bill, very comfortable interior and super friendly staff. Extensive menu featuring classics and also some interesting alternatives for anyone wanting to try something unique. Food and drink were delicious, the banana nut muffin tasted fresh and homemade.
