But this one didn't have anything going for it to make me want to give it a second chance. From the decor , service , food et all . Nothing worked for us here. This was an impromptu stop to get dinner since we were in the area. It didn't have great Yelp ratings but we still wanted to give it a chance. It was a weekday evening and the place had one table occupied. That gave us some courage to walk in to a seemingly empty restaurant. Since the objective was to have a quick meal we planned to order few basic things . Chicken Biriyani - was quite bad . Rice had an overpowering fragrance of rose water & spices , meat was not fresh & the Biriyani didn't offer a punch! Malabar Chicken Curry - This was just ok. Chicken was not fresh! Malabar Parotha - Flaky & Good. Having tried their basic offerings recommend by the waitress, our experience wasn't promising , as the food wasn't fresh & the place wasn't inviting. Most of the Kerala specialities like Appam , Dosa wasn't available . They seem to be focussed on their lunch buffet, weekend dining & mostly takeout for weekdays. Went back to aroma after a long time . As always , their weekend buffet is awesome ! Nice spreads on both vegetarian and non veg items . Good starters - vada , chicken 65, chicken cutlet , plantain fry , and then the main food . They had duck fry for whoever likes duck. .fish , aapaam, mutton kozhambu and for veggies they had - avial, and many more curries . Biryani was normal . Didn't like it much this time . They have not increased their buffet price to $25 which would have been worth of the food was better . Too many items on the menu for buffet but half of the items are are not worth trying . Banana fritters are too oily , parotta is too hard and appam tastes like pancakes . food doesn't taste fresh and desserts are not worth trying . Servers most often don't brother to check with you and you have keep following up for water and silverware . The place is great for lunch with the buffet option. The buffet is one of the best I have seen and has great, flavorful meat and vegetarian options. Took a bunch of people to dinner since lunch had been a good experience repeatedly. Not a good idea. The biryanis were bland and buried in oil. Aaked for it spicy and it came out lacking any pepper. The navratran korma was okay, the butter chicken was very good and consistent, the papdi chat was okay - missing all the yogurt sauce that typically comes with it. I have not had a more satisfying experience in a specialty restaurant. To enjoy excellent Kerala (a southern state of India) dishes, this is the place to be. I have introduced friends from other parts of India and the US to this place and all of them came back, wanting to go there again. The buffet during weekends are large. I come back without being able to taste at least over 5 dishes. I have also ordered for large parties and had excellent feedback from all the guest. Hello all: I'd like to write a few words about the Aroma restaurant in Warren, NJ. We've been its customers for the last 10 years, even when it existed under a different name. The ambiance has always been special here. Today, however, they got the best Indian chef there is - and we are so pleased! We typically visit on a monthly basis, sometimes more often. My husband and I love to order Thattu Dosa (soft lentil and rice crepes) - and it's always done to perfection, on request, that is, very well done! We like the attention of the Aroma staff. My garlic naan comes nicely well-done, as requested. And I always eat my favorite, the least-possible-spicy lamb butter masala, while my husband loves spicy lamb korma. Let me start out by saying the food here was amazing! It's byob and we brought a nice bottle of white wine and it matched our meal perfectly. We ordered our standard fare plus tried some new items. We asked their opinion on the goat curry and they said "oh that has bones" so we said ok then we'll get a different one and they replied "they all have bones" - ha ok then we'll just take the original one we asked about. It was really good and the bones weren't an issue. We also tried malai kofta for the first time and it will easily become part of my standard fare. Delish!!! My only reservation is the fact that there is a bug zapper in the kitchen. I couldn't decide if I was happy because then it's killing any bugs or gross you need it because you have bugs. It kept us laughing for sure because you can hear it zap the bugs which provides for an interesting atmosphere. Regardless it's the best Indian food I've had in NJ so I'll be back. read more

We were driving through Somerset Hills NJ and decided to try some Indian food. AROMA seemed a good choice. And it was. A very extensive menu of multiple regions of India, a delightful hostesss, a good chef and very big portions. (No surprise too that it had a large take out business.) The dining room is simple. Ten or more tables. We had a lamb korma and a goat masala dish, jasmine rice, super Vegetable Samosa Chat, garlic naan plus some cooling raita . Each main dish spiced to our choice. Enough to take home for another dinner. Plenty of water as we neglected to bring our own beer or wine. Icecream parlor next door. They have a buffet dinner on the weekend. The service was wonderful - very attentive and accommodating - we asked if they could make a few changes to a couple of dishes and they complied to our complete satisfaction. Every dish and appetizer was delicious. There are choices for every palate....including vegetarian and vegan options which is so helpful when dining out with different food preferences/requirements. This traditional Kerala restaurant serves authentic food from the famous coastal region of India known as God's Own Country. Today is Onam, a festival in which the entire community comes to celebrate and a feast called the 'Sadhya' is served on a banana leaf. Aroma did away with the leaf...but served the feast in full measure and what a feast it was!!! The feast is vegetarian and there was a line out of the door to sample it! There were at least 15 different vegetables and curries, different varieties of pickle and three types of sweets! Absolutely delicious, fresh and served with love. The base for most is coconut, leafy greens and root vegetables with mild spices. Delicious! We'll be back on different day to sample their regular menu but this was an amazing experience. read more

Hard, burned edges and dense throughout. When I try to order from them through Uber, the order is cancelled 3/5 times I'm guessing because they don't have the item ordered available. Meaning, much of it is likely not very fresh I'm guessing. Overall ok place because their Biryani alone is really great and I'd keep coming back for it.. if they can just keep up with their menu items(maybe cut it down to what they can handle and have always available) and maintain some quality control(just take idly off the menu if you don't know how to make it properly). read more

I'm uncertain how I learned about this gem. We have grown tired of the several Indian restaurants we patronize. Neelam, Poojah, Red Pepper. It was time for something new. My wife and I have had a lot of Indian food over the years. Our favorite spot is in Nairobi. Too far to travel. Aroma will do nicely for the forseeable future. We ordered a lot of food. Two shrimp appatizers, long chili pepper curry, an eggplant dish, sag paneer, yellow lentils. Everything spicy, please. We loved almost everything we tried. The chili pepper curry may rank in the best five Indian dishes I have had anywhere. Only the bread and the indian pickle fell short. I ordered aloo paratha but what I received was much like roti, brushed with ghee. It wasn't stuffed with potatoes as I expected. And the pickle, while spicy, was mostly carrots, not a variety of vegetables as we receive in other restaurants. That said, we can't wait to try the rest of the menu. We'll be back soon. read more

He has been talking about the restaurant for a while and we decided to try their lunch buffet menu on Saturday. This place is perfect the food is so diverse and tasty that I don't regret for a minute going here. I totally recommend the spicy mussels and the crispy sardines and lets not forget the Manchuria spicy chicken everything was great. I really can handle spicy food but the curry chicken was a real challenge but in a good way. It was really spicy but I kept eating it because it was so delicious. Coconut rice!!!!!! Honestly so good I have had this place a few times and never have I ever been disappointed. It's fresh so it does take about 40 minutes but it's worth it. Honestly, this is by far the best home cooked style Malayali food I have had at a restaurant, period. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the food there. We were a little early but were still told rather rudely that we would not be served and that they were closing, no explanation. The place was empty. I have been to soo many Indian buffets and this is by far my favorite for the price because they are the only one that consistently offers Goat curry, variety of mixed kormas, veggie dishes, fish curry and SOO much friggin food! My favorite is of course the Goat curry - standard stuff but they have a good mix of meat nad bones so you don't end up with all bone. Applesauce fish curry - is surprising good and less potent in flavor than the other curries also very yummy. Chicken 65, Tandoori Chicken, chicken masala, chicken briyani - all classic staples and delicious Sometimes they will have paneer curry and man....I love paneer. Veggie dishes mostly switches between eggplant and okra - all good! Definitely worth a try. at the far end there is lamb but I prefer goat over lamb any day - probably cause its fattier hehehe. So price id $9 ...for all of that!!! you can not go wrong with this place...come here with stretchy pants so you can EAT! So the food is good.... except it gave me food poisoning. I was in the ER overnight after eating their food. Later found out that my coworker got food poisoning from this place as well. I've eaten here multiple times and I've been fine. But this recent (and last) time I've been there really messed me up. Next time, try and take a peep into the inside of their kitchen. This is my favorite Kerala restaurant ever. Very authentic Kerala food satisfies the soul of this malayali. The Sunday lunch buffet is killer must have. The vegetarian selections are to die for, especially the avial, banana fry, appam. The non vegetarian dishes are a whole another level of heaven. Be it the fish curry with kappa/yucca, the chicken curry, the sardine fry, duck curry etc., it is all flavorful with spices and cooked to perfection. We visited Aroma at 12:00PM on a Monday. We were directed to take a seat at any of the tables for two in the dining room since we were the only customers in the restaurant at that time. The dining room is spacious and easily accommodates large parties. We decided to go with the lunch buffet, which was spread in a room separate from the dining area. The selection included a mix of classics you would expect to see at any Indian lunch buffet, such as the buttered chicken, as well as some unique alternatives like a goat curry and a variety of fish based dishes. It was clear that the food was freshly prepared and just laid out which was reflected in the flavor of the food. None of the food was too spicy or overwhelming in flavor. The naan bread was brought to the table, though I wish they would have refilled the basket. The naan itself was light and buttery in flavor and was nice compliment to the variety of curries. The selection of dishes was very nice and flavorful. The food itself was good but none of dishes really wow'd me. The service was very attentive and our waters were always filled. Originally Aroma had a few issues when I visited it about 1 1/2 years ago. But I must say since that time the food (taste) is spectacular. You know an Indian restaurant knows what they are doing when Sunday brunch is packed with folks from India. Over 25-30 food choices during Sunday Brunch is hard to find up north unless you want to trek down to Edison. The food holds true to the tastes you would find in any restaurant in India. We ordered Shrimp Biryani (never heard of this before) and chicken curry. Both were excellent. The dish might look small but they were loaded. They were very generous with the shrimp and chicken.
